Harry James Wade, 55, of Poca died August 21, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was a native of Kanawha County, a former employee of Mountaineer Limo Service, Charleston, West Virginia Paving and West Virginia Steel, Charleston. He was a member of Cross Lanes Bible Church.
Surviving: wife, Margaret Wade; daughters, Melinda Arbaugh of Nitro and Michele Lacy of Buffalo; stepdaughter, Lisa Shamblin of Sissonville; sister, Ruby Myers of Charleston; one nephew.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 2428 Kanawha Blvd. East, Charleston WV 25311.

Rosemary Sowers
Rosemary Sowers, 77, of Hurricane died August 23, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a member of Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane.
Surviving: sons, Joseph of Hurricane and William of Huntington; sister, Margaret Douglas of Florida; brother, William Fogarty of St. Albans; two grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, August 26, 2000, at Catholic Church of the Ascension with the Rev. J. Stephen Vallalonga officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Hurricane. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations to Kanawha Hospica Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

William G. Loudin
William G. Loudin, 75, of Buffalo died August 26, 2000, in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Pt. Pleasant, after a long illness.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a retired furniture refinisher and owner/operator of Loudin's Upholstery Shop.
Surviving: daughters, Anita Lynn Loudin of Red House, Patricia Ann Loudin of Buffalo and Pamela Jean Fenton of Eleanor; sons, William Gray II of Wallback, Robert Lee of Oak Hill, Florida, John Michael of Buffalo, and Thomas Edward of Charleston; brothers, Charles of New Jersey, Harold of Charleston and Jerald of Pittsburgh; sister, Helen Slater of Charleston; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
Service was held on Tuesday, August 29, 2000, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Jim McCallister officiating. Burial was in Walker Chapel Cemetery, Robertsburg.

John Wes Stover
John Wes Stover, 75, of Leon died August 24, 2000, at home.
He was a former employee of the state Department of Highways and attended Church of Christ in Christian Union, Leon.
Surviving: wife, Mary Agnus Gordon Stover; sons, Timothy, Marty, Larry, Roger and Wesley, all of Leon, and Victor of Poca; daughter, Mary Ann Elliott of Buffalo; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Service was held Sunday, August 27, 2000 at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Pt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Pete Cobb officiating. Burial was in Craig Cemetery, Grimms Landing.

Arthur L. “Bill” Powell
Arthur L “Bill” Powell, 79, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Milton, W.Va., left this world on Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital to walk free of pain and suffering with his Lord and Savior. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 26, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. James “Jim” Legg and Kelson Bays officiating. Entombment in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born June 7, 1921, in Lincoln County, W.Va., a son of the late William Earl Powell and Ida Powell Clary. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Powell; two sisters, Bessie Powell and Lena Stromgwall; and one son, Rodger Keith Powell. Bill was a member of Union Baptist Church, Milton, and a former member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Milton. Bill had lived a Christian life for 60 years, being born again at the age of 19. He was retired from the Cabell County Library system with 32 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Beulah Hicks Powell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Susie Powell of Barboursville, David and Nancy Powell of Ona; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela Sue and Scott Evans of Huntington; eight granddaughters, Alisa and Jim Sizemore, Kelli and Chad Clark, Barbie and Chris Woodrum, Beth and Keith Chapman, Ami Powell, Heather, Brittani and Victoria Evans; four great-grandsons, Jeremy and Tyler Cook, Andy Black and Alex Clark; four great-granddaughters, McKenna Clark, Emilie McClellan, Brooklyn Sizemore and Heather Woodrum; the very special and loving family of the late Rev. Bennie Courts, with whom he made his home for several years; two special friends, Hoyt Williams and Richard McCloud; and a host of friends.

Mont “PaPa” Horn
Mont “Papa” Horn, 72, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord, August 21, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 24, 2000, at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Judith Erwin and Pastor George Torres. Burial in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. He was born August 17, 1928, in Logan County, a son of the late Jasper and Josephine Hammons Horn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Burdine; one son, Dennis Burdine; and one grandchild, Amy Townson. He is survived by a special son and daughter-in-law, Zack and Nancy Burdine; another son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Billie Burdine; one daughter, Wanda Bkair; one sister, Virginia Black; special niece, Sharon Horn; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two very close friends, Ronnie Myers and Bugz Romine; and a host of other family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. May his passing be a glory one on his way to heaven.

Winona Ingles Burns
Winona Ingles Burns, 77, of Barboursville, wife of James E Burns, died Monday, August 21, 2000 in St. May's Hospital. She was a homemaker. Also surviving are five sisters, Grace Haeberle of Huntington, Mary Margie Circle of St. Petersburg, Fla., Margaret Brooks of Massillion, Ohio, Virginia Irby of Sebastian, Fla., and Irene Pearson of Cannon Lake, Texas; and one brother, Harrison D. Ingles Jr. of Cary, N.C. Funeral Liturgy was held Thursday, August 24, 2000 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary; burial in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Roger Louis Barrett
Roger Louis Barrett, 50, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Barboursville, W.Va., husband of Jo Ann Feaster Barrett, passed away Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, in Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Va. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Steele Memorial United Methodist Church, Barboursville, with Dr. Ed Grant and Rev. Jay Tatum officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Pallbearers were Scott Call, Mike Wheeler, Kenny Pearson, Cyrus Barton, Tim Wiseman and Charles Rashid. He was born Feb. 2, 1950, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Louis Howe and Bernice Eloise Dunkle Barrett. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Deborah Smith Barrett; and a sister, Kathleen Barrett. He was the owner and operator of Gill Industries, and was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Barrett Horton and G. Shane Horton of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Laura Feaster of Huntington, and a stepson, John Christian Feaster of Huntington. Champan's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

John Henry Brumfield
John Henry Brumfield, 80, of Glenwood, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Joe Dolen officiating. Burial in Pete Meadows Cemetery, Glenwood. He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Glenwood, W.Va, a son of the late Mantford and Sarah Edmonds Brumfield. He was also preceded in his death by his son, Frankie Brumfield; three sisters, Bessie Nelson, Edna Smith and Margaret McComas; and one brother, Lowell Brumfield. He was a retired machinist for ACF Industries. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Virginia Booth Brumfield; two sons, Robert “Bob” Brumfield of Glenwood and John Brumfield, Jr. of Point Pleasant; four daughters and one son-in-law, Lillie and Buddy Ward of Milton, Shirley Jenkins of Glenwood, Rosella Brumfield of Lesage and Sarah Combs of Lesage; three brothers, Rondal Brumfield of Huntington, Joe Brumfield of Kenova and Harley Brumfield of Barboursville; one sister, Geneva Spence of Texas; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Zena “Ma Maw” Bruce
Zena “MaMaw” Bruce, 89, of Barboursville, Our beloved, we kiss your memory, your sweetness, and your beauty and strength, for you have cast glory upon all of our lives. The gates of Heaven opened and the trumpets sounded on the rainy morning of August 24, 2000 to welcome our loved one home to be with her Lord. She died at the residence of her daughter after a short terminal illness. She was loved very much by all who knew her, and now the Lord has a very special angel named “Zena”. She will be very sadly missed by all her family and friends. 2 Timothy 1:4, I long to see you again, for I remember your tears as we parted and I will be filled with joy when we are together again. Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 28, at Fellowship Baptist Church, Barboursville, W.Va., by the Dr. Jerry Warren. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. She was born June 4, 1911, in Felix, Wayne County, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Nancy Jane Salmons Vinson. She was a retired cashier at the Nickel Plant Cafeteria in which she worked for many years. She attended Fellowship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her late ex-husband, William Curtis Bruce; a very special granddaughter, Virginia “Ginger” McComas-Bruce; her four brothers, Okey, Walter, Oliver and Dan Vinson; her two sisters, Rose Tucker and Goldie Blodgett. She is survived by one sister, Alva Smith of Williamson, W.Va. She is also survived by a very special daughter and son-in-law, who cared for her until the end, Faye Compston and her husband, Perry of Barboursville, W.Va.; two wonderful sons, who loved her very much, along with a very special daughter-in-law, Billy Joe and Carolyn Bruce of Barboursville, W.Va., and Jimmy Curtis of Huntington.
She is also survived by six grandchildren±nd their spouses, Michelle Woomer and her husband, Roger of Barboursville, Angela Bruce of Barboursville, Leslie Ballengee and her husband, Dewey of Barboursville, David Bruce of South Carolina, Kevin Bruce of Barboursville, Jimmy Curtis Bruce, Jr. of Iva, S.C. She has five very special great-grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart, Chad McComas-Adkins of Lesage, Corey and Ashlee Woomer of Barboursville, Cody Ballengee of Barboursville, Carley Bruce of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. A very special thank you is extended to Hospice and her many Hospice caregivers. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. I am leaving you with a gift: peace of mind and heart. Remember what I told you, I am going away, but I will come back to you again John 14:27-28.

Verna Bell Greathouse
Verna Bell Greathouse, 84, of Lesage, formerly of Glenwood, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 25, 2000, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 28, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Ronnie Long and Gilbert Smith, Jr. officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born September 10, 1915, in Glenwood, W.Va, a daughter of the late Claude and Dorcus Holley Blake. She was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church, Glenwood. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Roy Greathouse; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rufus and Landora Greathouse of Glenwood, Dallas and Maxine Greathouse of Lesage; one daughter and son-in-law, Alice and George, Jr. Spurlock of Glenwood; one brother, Charles D. Blake of Milton; three sisters, Verba Conard of Huntington, Selma Black and Annie Dailey, both of Milton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Hospice of Huntington and to special caregivers, George, Willa, and Sherri Massie.

Walter Harrison “Pete” Harless
Walter Harrison “Pete” Harless, 72, of Milton, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Military graveside rites were conducted Sunday, August 27, 2000, Baylous Cemetery by VFW Post 9738, Guyandotte. He was born May 5, 1928, in Barboursville, a son of the late Kent B. and Sara Gwinn Harless. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was also preceded in death by a son, David K Harless. He is survived by his wife, Frances Armentrout Harless; two daughters, Lynn Lambert of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathy Ann Dominick of Fort Myers, Fla.; two sons, Walter Harless Jr. of Barboursville and Timothy A. Harless of Florida; seven sisters, Mary Midkiff of Fort Myers, Fla., Alma Bolt, Nellie Kniski and Lucille Lewis, all of Cape Coral, Fla., Kay Cremeans of Huntington, Betty Williams and Lola Harbour, both of Dunedin, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Jeffrey Lee Lambert, Amanda Lee Dominick, Joseph A. Harless, Megan Harless and David Earl Harless. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Laura Elizabeth Gray
Laura Elizabeth Gray, 74, of Barboursville. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with Dr. David Lemming officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Proctorville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Oscar E. and Ruth M. Rayburn Smith. She was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Arthur D. Gray; one brother, James E. Smith of Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Betty L. Hall, Patsy R. Bledsoe, Shirley J. Bledsoe, all of Barboursville and Sandra S. Keyser of Ashland, Ky.; a special niece, Lora Wilkes of Barboursville. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlton B. and Jack L. Smith of Greenacres City, Fla., formerly of Proctorville, Ohio.

Early A. Myatt, Jr.
Mr. Early A. Myatt, Jr., 81, of Flatwoods, KY., formerly of Barboursville, WV, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at his residence. Graveside services were conducted Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, with Rev. Craig Coster officiating. Burial followed. He was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Dixon, Tenn., a son of the late Early Myatt, Sr., and Clarabell Crockett Myatt. He was a vice president of Charleston Construction Co., a member of Barboursville Baptist Church, and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. The hobbies he enjoyed were hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Jean Sublett Myatt; three sons, Early Myatt III of Flatwoods, Ky, Norman Myatt of Mountain Lakes, N.J., and Crockett Myatt of Ashland; and seven grandchildren, Jean Ann Myatt, Lisa Myatt, Early Myatt IV, Ashley Myatt, Amy Myatt, Todd Myatt and Becky Craft. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Ola Ann Meadows
Ola Ann Meadows, 65, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 24, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 27, 2000, at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Milton, with Rev. Joe Dolen officiating. Burial in the Mount Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery. She was born May 25, 1935, in Mason County, W.Va, a daughter of the late Clebert “Pal” and Sarah Black Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Otho and Odell Reynolds, and her daughter-in-law, Sandra L. Meadows. She was a member of the Mount Olive United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, retired Deputy Sheriff Robert K. Meadows; one son, Merle Meadows of Culloden and special friend Lois Blake; one daughter, Dreama Kayser of Milton and special friend James Bays; three brothers, Ervin Reynolds of Elm City, N.C., Arnold Reynolds of Milton and Marvin “Moss” Reynolds of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; and three sisters, Minnie Holley and Rosie Smith, both of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, and Sue Hodges of Apple Grove, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Stephen Meadows of Milton Chris and Liz Meadows of Huntington, Bridgett Shaffer of Milton and Bobbie Kayser of Milton: four great-grandchildren, Mark Shaffer, Kyrsten Meadows, Hunter Meadows and Evelyn Meadows. Donald Bowling
Donald Bowling, 56, of Pikevile, husband of Lula Mae Nicholson Bowling (formerly of Milton), died Sunday, August 31, 2000 in Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was the retired principal of Millard High School. Also surviving are his mother, Willa Reed Bowling Burke of Pikeville; one son, Ronnie Bowling of Salyersville; one brother, Rick Bowling of Pikeville; two sisters, Kathy Tackett of Pikeville and Mary Damron of Richmond; and his mother-in-law Pauline Nicholson of Milton, WV. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at J.W. Call and Son Funeral Home; burial in Annie E. Young Cemetery.

Beulah L. Lackey
Beulah L. Lackey, 88, of Smoot, died August 14, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church, Dawson.
Surviving: daughters, Norma Anderson of Winfield, Wanda Lindsey of Galena, Ohio, Gloria Fisher of Millville, N.J., Yvonne Holland of Dawson, Mable Chari of Bridgeport, N.J., Jo Ann Whitaker of Lewisburg; sons, Bill of Cape May Court House, N.J., Tommy of Smoot; sister, Margie Allen of Summerville, S.C.; stepsisters, Annabelle Barker of Rainelle, Mary Young of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Jo Ann Roberson of Chesapeake, Va.; stepbrother, Manual Ailstock of Poca; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, August 18, 2000 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with George Deitz officiating. Burial in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Phil Flowers
Bancroft Mayor Phil Flowers, 42, of Bancroft died Saturday, August 12, 2000, after being struck by a vehicle.
Flowers was a member of the Education Organizing Board and Nitro Moose.
Surviving: parents, Philip and Yvonne Flowers of Bancroft; sister, Tracie Casto of Buffalo; brother, Teddy of Buffalo; one niece and one nephew.
Services were held Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. James M. Legg officiating. Burial in Haven of Rest Memorial Garden.

Joe Eldred Hodges
Joe Eldred Hodges, 64, of Largo, formerly of Hurricane, WV, died Aug. 11, 2000, at home after a short illness.
He was a retired electrician for Rockwell International Corp., Winchester, Ky. He was a Baptist.
Surviving: daughter, Sherry Lynn Buchla of Marietta, Ga.; sons, Larry Joe and Jeffrey Scott, both of Hurricane, Brenton Lyle of Orlando; sisters, Lois Childers and Monna Lou Manning, both of Hurricane; two grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at Adda Baptist Church, Winfield, WV, with the Rev. Charles Moses officiating. Burial in Lower Hodges Cemetery, Winfield. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, WV, was in charge of arrangements.

Frances M. Burlingame
Frances McNeil Burlingame, 90, of St. Albans died Aug. 13, 2000, in SunBridge Nursing Home, Dunbar, after a short illness.
She was a retired bookkeeper from Singer Sewing Machine Co., Charleston. and was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge 287 and Pythian Sisters.
Surviving: stepdaughter, Lorraine Patrick of Charleston; brothers, John M. McNeil Jr. of Arizona, Donald Edward McNeil of Bancroft; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, with Pastor George Bramble officiating. Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.

Grace L. Bott
Grace Lucille Bott, 87, of Hurricane died August 20, 2000, in Chateau Grove Personal Care Home, Barboursville, after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and former state champion of Women’s Bowling.
Surviving: daughters, Sandy Estes of Teays Valley and Bonnie Wells of Winfield; sons, G.W. “Bill” of South Charleston and John Phillip of Scott Depot; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, August 22, 2000, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. J.D. Harrah officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.

Wanda Gay Bobbitt
Wanda Gay Bobbitt, 79, of Huntington, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 at Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, by Rev. John W. Bobbitt. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born May 7, 1921 in Hurricane, W.Va., a daughter of the late William C. and Cora Lee Moore Martin. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Samuel N. Bobbitt; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Betty Bobbitt of Barboursvlle; one sister, Bernice Fields of Bridgeport, Neb.; and one granddaughter, Anna Bobbitt of Barboursville. Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Sturm Cochran
Agnes Sturm Cochran, 97, of Huntington, passed away Friday, August 18, 2000 at home. Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 20 at Henson Mortuary with Rev. Don Walker officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Cochran was born Feb. 21, 1903, in Hamlin, W.Va., daughter of the late William J. and Susan Browning Powell. She was a member of 20th Street Baptist Church, the Mary Martha Philatheaian Sunday School Class and Huntington City Mission Auxiliary. Her husband, Frank Cochran (1975) and her son, Fred Sturm (1996) preceded her in death. Survivors include two grandchildren Donna Sue Sloan and Fred Sturm Jr, both of Columbus, Ohio; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and good friend June Simms. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington or 20th Street Baptist Church.

Nancy Ann Meadows, 77, of Huntington, widow of William Sanford Meadows, died Saturday, August 19, 2000 at home. Survivors include one daughter, Lula Jenkins of Huntington; three sons, Randall Meadows and Leon Meadows, both of Huntington and Lewis Meadows of South Point, Ohio; and one brother, Albert “Al” Cremeans, of Huntington. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home; burial in Staten Chapel Cemetery, Milton.

Margaret E. Myers
Margaret E. Myers, 85, of Huntington passed away Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at Beard Mortuary with Dr. Terrell Bradley officiating. Burial at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Myers was born Oct. 26, 1914, in Huntington, W.Va., daughter of the late Frank W. and Minnie Smoot Herren. She was a faithful member of the Highlawn Baptist Church and served many years as a Primary Department Sunday School teacher. She was also a retired bookkeeper of the former B and B Food Market. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Myers; three sisters, Catherine Louise Herren, Donna Herren and Norma Fox; and also by a grandson, Timothy Brian Myers. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Becky Myers and Tim and Sheila Myers, all of Barboursville; seven beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Leslie and Gordon Alaby, Sherri and Paul Thrift, Beth and Jim Comer, Andy and Kelly Myers, Jennifer Myers, Kim Myers and David Myers; and six great-grandchildren.

James L Nibert
James L. Nibert, 83, of Barboursville, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000 at his home. Graveside services were conducted Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 at Woodmere Memorial Park by Brother Larry Fry. He was born May 21, 1917 in Cabell County, a son of the late Charles W. and Emma Gill Nibert. He was retired from Connors Steel. He is survived by his wife, Violet L. Adkins Nibert; three sons, Tommy Nibert of Huntington, Jimmy L. Nibert of Palm Coast, Fla., and Mark R. Nibert of Barboursville; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Nibert; six grandchildren, Jennifer S. Nibert, Sabrina Legg, Jimmy Nibert, Jr., Amy Ansell, Randy Varney and Jonathan Varney; seven great-grandchildren, Christina L. Legg, Amber N. Nibert, Jimmy L. Nibert III, Kiana K. Ansell, Brande R. Ansell, Chris Dempsey and Robin S. Varney; one great-great-grandchild, Jasmine N. Johnson; one sister, Audrey Cook of Huntington; one brother, Herman Nibert of Texas; one half-sister, Bessie Sampson of Huntington; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Juanita and Carl Black; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to Norma and Bill Cignoni. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park.

Stanley Lee Thompson
Stanley Lee Thompson, 89, of Barboursville, passed away Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000 at Chateau Grove Personal Care Home. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville by Dr. Elaine Rhodes. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. He was born July 27,1911 in Springfield, Mo., a son of the late Charles A. and Flossie Thomspon. He was retired from C&O Railroad with 49 years of service, and a member of Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, and a membes of the Minerva Lodge #13, A.F. & A.M., Barboursville for 54 years. He was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Thompson, and two brothers, Glen Thompson and Charles “Cotton” Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Calma May Thomspon; one daughter-in-law, Dixie Stenger Thompson of Fla.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington or a church or charity of one’s choice. Minerva Lodge #13 A.F. & A.M. served as pallbearers and conducted Masonic graveside services.

Josephine Chapman
Josephine Chapman, 84, of Scott Depot died August 16, 2000, at home after a short illness.
She was a homemaker, a Baptist and a lifelong resident of Scott Depot.
Surviving: daughters, Thelma Dobbins of Sutton, Joanne Bennett of Sissonville, Irene Eggleton of Rutland, Ohio; sons, Homer of Canton, Ohio, Paul of Albion, Pa., Howard of Scott Depot; sister, Beatrice Hall of St. Albans; brother, Jasper Coen of Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, August 19, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Donald E. Cremeans officiating. Burial in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Donations to the American Diabetes Association, 1221-A Ohio Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.

Betty Dickson Plyburn
Betty Dickson Plyburn, 65, of Barboursville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000 at her residence. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, Aug, 19, 2000 at Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Elaine Rhodes officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Kenova. She was born January 24, 1935, in Huntington, daughter of the late Wilbur and Terzah Kessler Dickson. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University, and was active in the Barboursville community with her late husband as owners of Plyburn’s Pharmacy and as a member of the Barboursville Woman’s Club. She was also an active supporter of the Arts and Youth Programs in the Tri-State and the Music and Mission outreach of the Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a member and held various offices. Her husband, William J. Plyburn, preceded her in death in 1997. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James and Jennifer Plyburn of Huntington; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Kay and Ed Somerville of Asheville, N.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Earl Icard of Gallipolis, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Joy Dickson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren Jay and Jeremy Plyburn of Huntington, and Mary, Sarah, Will, Ned, Rachel, Scott, Becky and Walter Somerville of Asheville, N.C.; and her mother-in-law, Opal Plyburn of Kenova. Donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington, the American Cancer Society or the Music Department at Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church. Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the many family members, friends, and caregivers who have shared in Betty’s celebration of life. Family members served as pallbearers.

Alberta Wallace
Alberta Wallace, 96, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 19, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Vernon Wallace officiating. Burial in Milton Cemetery. Alberta was born on June 24, 1904 in Huntington. She was a daughter of the late Thomas A. and Eliza Catherine “Katie” Fetty Villars. Alberta was also preceded in her death five children, Vernon, Ivan, Gene, Herman, and Roberta Wallace and on Dec. 13, 1972, her husband, Culvy Ivan Wallace Sr. She was a member of Washington Avenue Church of God Holiness, Milton. Survivors include six sons and four daughters-in-law, Larry Wallace, Leonard and Mercy Wallace, all of Milton, Leon and Wanda Wallace of Emmett, Idaho, Carlyle “Corky” and Maxine Wallace and Bobby and Kay Wallace, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Edsel Wallace of Amanda, Ohio; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Reva and Ruddy Wood of Hurricane, Shirley and Paul Mount of Gary, Ind., Louise Womack of Crooksville, Ohio, Maxine and Jack Chapman of Marion, Ohio, and Karla and David Woodrum of Rockbridge, Ohio; two sisters, Thelma Edwards and Wilma Simpson both of Proctorville, Ohio; 51 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren, and 26 great-great grandchildren.
