Sigal H. “Red” Craig
Sigal H. “Red” Craig, 72, of Buffalo, W.Va., passed away Monday, Aug, 14, 2000, at home. He was an Independent Missionary Baptist minister, and pastored several local churches in addition to his weekly radio broadcast, “The Gospel Call.” He was a retired maintenance operator for the FMC Nitro plant, with over 30 years of service, and a lifelong resident of Buffalo. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael H. Craig. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Buck Craig, one son, David W. Craig of Eleanor, W.Va.; three daughters, Sharon Neary of Burlington, N.C., Karen Sue Blake of Pinch, W.Va., and Brenda Craig Ellis of Charleston, W.Va.; one brother, Bruce Craig of Buffalo, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services were held. Friday, August 18, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Doug McComas and Rev. Douglas Neary officiating. Burial in Buffalo Memorial Park, Buffalo.
Phillip J. Hoylman
Phillip J. Hoylman, 68, of Scott Depot died Aug. 15, 2000, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
He was the owner/operator of Hoylman’s Appliance Repair Service and a former employee of Hoylman-Huffman. He was a member, trustee and choir member at Winfield Community Church and a graduate of Milton High School. He had attended Marshall University and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving: wife, Arlene Stowasser Hoylman; sons, Joe “Joe Mark” of Culloden, Phillip Lee of Decatur, Ill.; sister, Rebecca Bowyer of Elkins; brother, Dean of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandsons.
Service were held Friday, August 18, 2000 at Winfield Community Church with the Rev. Mike Rader officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Randall L. “Ducky” Love, 80, of Scott Depot, formerly of St. Albans, died Aug. 15, 2000, at Regency Place after a long illness. He was a retired rigger from Union Carbide. He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, a graduate of the Greenbrier Military School and an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving: brother, Sam Love of Weirton; nieces, Edith Maple of Niles, Ohio, Donna Parsons of Huntington, Sandy Dines of Pittsburgh, Janice Figaro of Medina, Ohio; nephew, Sam Love Jr. of Weirton; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Mrs. Willie Marie Eden, 83, of Barboursville, went home to be with God in the arms of Jesus, Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Henson Mortuary by Rev. Billie Scott Mick and Rev. David Vickers. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born April 16, 1917, in Pulaski, Va, a daughter of the late Guy Harmon and Edith Blanche Mabe Frost. Mrs. Eden was a homemaker and member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle of the church. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Bias. Donald Bowling, 56, of Pikeville, husband of Lula Nickolson Bowling, died Sunday, August 13, 2000, in Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was the retired principal of Millard High School. Dave Stewart, 64, of Glenwood, husband of Rosalee Knapp Stewart, died Tuesday, August 8, 2000 in Pleasant Valley Hospital. He was retired from ACF Industries, Huntington. Also surviving are two daughters, Melissa Jean Scott of Ashton and Mary Elizabeth Stewart of Glenwood; two sons, Daniel Lee Stewart and David Lee Stewart, both of Glenwood; four sisters, Freda Mayes of Ashton, Hazel Jeffers of Glenwood and Ella Scarberry and Doris Jean Henry, both of Lesage; and two brothers, Clayton Stewart of Ashton and Curtis Stewart of Hurricane. James Franklin Scaggs
James Franklin Scaggs, 80, of Barboursville, W.Va, formerly of Wayne, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at home. Funeral services were conducted Friday, August 11, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Herb Varney and Pastor Keith Creasey. Burial in Swann Cemetery, Malcolm Road, Barboursville. He was born November 2, 1919, in Wayne County, a son of the late Fisher Franklin and Emma Marcum Scaggs. Jim studied dramatic arts, both at Kent State University and the University of Cincinnati. He also worked in his family drug store and retired from the state of West Virginia. He was a member of the Wayne Baptist Church and a West Virginia Balladeer. A longtime resident of Wayne, Jim was well known in the community. He is well remembered for his passion for music, fine clothes and fine jewelry. Jim never met a stranger. Mention his name in a crowded room, and those who knew him will suddenly find a smile on their face and a story on the tip of their tongue. To know him was to truly love him. Though Jim has passed beyond us, his memory will always live on. A man is truly blessed who can make others smile. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ruth May Scaggs; one daughter, Rebecca Scaggs Bannon of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Mollie Hinchman of Barboursville; two grandchildren, Brad and Dean Bannon of South Carolina; three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; special cousins, Elaine Marcum Pancake, Nancy J. Smith, Eddie Marcum, Bill Marcum, Dr. Jimmy Lee Ferrell and his wife, Judy, Walter Ferrell and his wife, Dorothy, brother-in-law Frank Cabell and his wife, Opal; and sister-in-law Georgie Venoy and her husband, Hubert.

Helen Virginia Asbury, 77, of Barboursville, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2000, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 13, 2000, in the White Chapel Mausoleum Chapel by Rev. Willie May and Rev. Brian Wray. Entombment in the White Chapel Last Supper Mausoleum. She was born October 4, 1922, in Wayne County, WV, a daughter of the late Elijah and Myrtle Mills Fortner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Glen Asbury in 1976, and three brothers, Grover, Kim and Jay Fortner. She attended Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Glen Roger and Joyce Asbury of Huntington; one daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Jolly Bartram of Barboursville; one sister, Minnie May of Barboursville; grandchildren, Sheryl and Ron Tank of Newark, Ohio, Stephanie Bartram of Dublin, Ohio, Bill and Debbie Asbury of Hackettstown, N.J., and Kim and Chris Boyd of Charles Town, W.Va; a niece, Patty Henderson of Maryland, a nephew Todd Fortner of California; and a special friend and cousin, Nancy McComas of Huntington. William H. Mitchell, Jr.,67, of Ona, W.Va., died following a short illness, Wednesday, August 9, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 13, 2000, at Milton Funeral Home by Pastor Don Mash. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was a retired West Virginia State Trooper. He was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Garretts Bend, W.Va., son of the late William Herman Sr. and Della Neal Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of Midway of Christ in Hurricane, W.Va, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Barboursville, W.Va., and the Fraternal Order of Police. Survivors include his wife, Norma “Pat” Mitchell; one son, Michael Mitchell of Milton, W.Va.; one daughter, Susan Mitchell of Ona, W.Va.; and three grandchildren, Jennifer and Amber of Charleston, S.C., and Jay Mitchell of Milton, W.Va. Homer Iradell Gray, 93, of Huntington died July 29, 2000, in Morris Memorial Nursing Home. Memorial services were conducted Friday, August 11, 2000, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Jean Jacques D’aoust. He was born Feb. 27, 1907, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Spencer Bruce and Rosalie Masters Gray. Mr. Gray was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for 59 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Lorraine Meeks, and one great-grandchild, Sarah Elizabeth Wilhelm. Mrs. Ruth (Elkins) Adkins left her earthly home for her home in Heaven to be with Jesus and her husband William Jefferson “102” Adkins who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1969 and a son, Harry Wesley who died on Nov, 11, 1955. Funeral services were held on Wed., Aug. 16, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastors Bill Davis and Pete Davidson officiating. Burial in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock. She was born on Oct. 26, 1915 a daughter of the late Harry and Leafy Dell Townsend Elkins. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawson Clark Elkins. Margaret Jane Gray Richards, 79, of Scott Depot died August 7, 2000, in Vineyards of Coal Mountain of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and was retired from Bramham and Kinder Aluminum Products, Dunbar.

Bernard Ray “Mack” Terry, 65, of Winfield died August 8, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was retired from Monsanto, Nitro, with 31 years’ service and was a member of Kings Way Christian Church, Nitro. He was an Army veteran and a lifelong resident of Winfield.

Beulah A. Hammond, 91, of Poca, formerly of Nitro, died August 9, 2000, in Riverside Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and a former cook.

Naomi Pearl Handley Wears, 75, of Pliny died August 8, 2000, in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Pt. Pleasant, after a long illness.
She was retired from Pliny Truck Stop. She was a member of Mount Union United Methodist Church, Pliny, and a lifelong resident of Pliny.

Bailey was a carpenter with Best General Contractors, Liberty, a graduate of Poca High School and received a degree in electronics and computer engineering technology from the National Institute of Technology, Cross Lanes.

Virginia S. Bubar
Virginia S. Bubar, 80, of Poca, formerly of Oakfield, Maine, died July 30, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a retired clerk from the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad with more than 35 years' service. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Nitro.
Surviving: son, Jeffrey D. of Poca; sister, Genievieve Drew of Oakfield; grandchildren, Jay Bubar and Jennifer Bubar, both of Poca.
Service was held August 2, 2000 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Dean Borgemeyer officiating. Graveside service will be held at a later day in Maine.
