Jack Edwin Ferrell, 72, of Red House, formerly of Uneeda, died July 31, 2000, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
He was a retired miner from Westmoreland Coal Co. and was an Army veteran.
Surviving: companion, Jean White; daughter, Barbara Ballard of Foster; son, Rodney of Garner, North Carolina; sisters, Marjorie Abbott and Irene Stevenson, both of Van, and Charlotte Murphy of Charleston; brother, Ray Coon of Indianapolis; three grandchildren.

James M. King
James Melvin King, 65, of Red House died July 30, 2000, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Virginia, after a short illness.
He was a retired electrician and instrument mechanic from Monsanto Corp., Nitro, with 28 years' service. He was a Christian and attended Lone Oak Church of God, Red House.
Surviving: wife, S. Oneita Bailey King; daughter, Cathy Jo Roberts of Nitro; son, James A. “Tony” of Red House; mother, Madge Cochran King of Liberty; sister, Dottie Casto of Eleanor; eight grandchildren.
Service was held August 2, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Nyle Fisher officiating. Burial was in Emma Chapel Cemetery, Liberty.
Sara Grace Tolley
Sara Grace Tolley, 18, of Poca died August 1, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She attended Winfield High School and participated in the Special Olympics.

David B. Stephenson, 72, of Poca, formerly of Clay, died August 2, 2000, in Heartland of Charleston.

Ecil M. Childers Arthur, 86, of Bancroft, formerly of Plymouth, died August 3, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was a member of Bancroft Church of God Mission.
Surviving: husband, the Rev. Carl W. Arthur; daughters, Jacqueline Persinger of Culloden and Carol Carner of Charleston, South Carolina; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Herman W. “Happy” Strain, 96, of Scott Depot died August 2, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was a former employee of Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Co.

Benjamin R. Burdette III, 48, of Bancroft died August 4, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was a 26-year resident of Bancroft, an employee of Vimasco Corp. with 25 years' service and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bancroft.

John M. “Tex” Wright, 70, of Red House died August 4, 2000, in VA Hospital, Huntington, after a long illness.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a Baptist and a retired heavy equipment operator.

Daniel T. Hedrick
Daniel T. Hedrick, 56, of St. Peters, Missouri died August 5, 2000, at home.
He was born at Buffalo, West Virginia, the son of the late Mack and Margaret Hedrick. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mack Hedrick. He was employed by Dana, St. Louis County, as a machinist repairman for 37 years. He was a member of Machinist Union Local #41.

Hallie May Morrison
Hallie May Morrison, 90, of Salt Rock, W.Va., widower of Havana Chapman Morrison, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at the home of Bobby Joe and Wanda Morrison of Milton, who cared for him the last days of his life. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Joe Dolen and Rev. Richard L. Black officiating. Burial in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock. Hallie was born in Cabell County on May 5, 1910. He was a son of the late John W. and Eula V. Adams Morrison. Hallie was also preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Marie Morrison and Harry and Tressie Carter Morrison. He was retired from INCO, where he worked in the sheet mill and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. Hallie was a charter member and vice president of the Mountaineer Sportsman Club, and a member of Enon Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Eva Morrison of Glenwood, Glen and Bonnie Morrison of West Hamlin, Jerry and Sharon Morrison of Salt Rock and Bobby Joe and Wanda Morrison of Milton; three daughters and one son-in-law, Oneita Toler and friend Chuck Wright of Milton, Faye Chapman of Salt Rock and Betty and Fred Monday of Milton. He also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren; and a host of friends and loved ones, including special friends Bill Arthur, Bill Thompson Bob Chapman and Bob Black. Mary A. Craft, 63, of Ona, W.Va, formerly of Huntington W.Va, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Chapman’s Mortuary with Rev. Dwight Barker officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Mingo County, W.Va., and was preceded in death by her mother, Edna P. Marcum. She was a member of New Life Church. She is survived by her stepfather, Calvin Marcum; one sister, Betty Reffitt of Ona, W.Va; two brothers, Tony Hensley of Columbus, Ohio, and Carl Hensley of Huntington; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and longtime companion, Steve Miller of Huntington. Pallbearers were Woodrow Reffitt of Columbus, Ohio, and Chris Runyon, David Rose, Mike Adkins and Jim Burns, all of Ona, W.Va.
William T. “Bunt” Trippett
Mr. William T. “Bunt” Trippett, 64, of Lesage, WVa., died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 28, 2000, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, by the Rev. Jamie Jefferson. Burial in Union Cemetery. Bunt was born October 27, 1935, in Mason County, WV, a son of the late Thomas and Lizzie Starkey Trippett. He was retired from the former INCO Alloys, and a member of the Local 40 Steelworkers Union. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thurman Trippett. Survivors include his wife, Mary Trippett; one daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Ronnie Massie of Ona, WV; one son William Brian Trippett of Lesage; one sister and brother-in-law, Ona Faye and Ed Custer of McMechen, W.Va.; one brother, Joseph M. Trippett of Glenwood, W.Va.; and two grandchildren, Kevin and Christopher Massie, both of Ona. Pallbearers were Mike Knight, Rick Clary, Dick Nance, Jim Muncy, John Bowman and Paul Hemann.
Pamela K. White
Pamela K. White, 60, of Salt Rock, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 28, 2000, at Salt Rock United Methodist Church, by Pastor David Cartwright and Rev. Ed Hood. Burial in Gill Cemetery. She was born June 21, 1940, in Salt Rock, a daughter of the late Arlie Lee and Icely Davis White. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lestin and Okie White. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Lori White of Salt Rock; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Floyd Edmonds and Joann and Oliver Steward, all of Salt Rock; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Arlie “Lard” White of Huntington, Wandell “Pee Wee” and Delores White and Bill and Betty White, all of Salt Rock and Lois White of Kenova; two grandchildren, Shealynn and Kirsten White; and several nieces and nephews. Darlene L. Brumfield Stewart
Darlene L. Brumfield Stewart, 73, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. James Bolen and Rev. L.V. Cartmill. Burial in Forest Memorial Park. She was born May 1, 1927, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Virgil and Ethel Saunders Brumfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Stewart, one sister, Marylene Brumfield Morrison, and one brother, Virgil Brumfield Jr. She is survived by one daughter, Ina Lea Davis of Texas; two grandchildren, Bryan and Shyma Inscoe of Florida; a special nephew, Russell Morrison; her friend with whom she made her home, Louise Newsome; and several nieces and nephews.
Clifford Ray
Clifford Ray, 72, of Milton, husband of Norma Ray, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Also surviving are three sons, Dwayne Ray, Marvin Ray and Mike Ray, all of Milton; three brothers, Charles Ray of Ona, Clenon Ray of Milton and Leo Ray of Huntington: and one sister, Irene Evans of Milton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock.
Thomas Hickman
Thomas Dewey Hickman, Sr., 55, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at home following an illness of 10 months due to cancer. Born Dec. 4, 1944 in Barboursville, WV, he was the son of Alva E. and Nellie (Cooper) Hickman. Reared in Milton, WV, he was a 1964 graduate of Milton High School, where he played varsity football and wrestled. A former Ravenna resident, he had been a Windham resident for six years. Mr. Hickman worked as a truck driver for Landmark Disposal in Cleveland. He also worked as a truck driver for several other companies in Portage, Cuyahoga and Trumbull counties. He was a member of the Cleveland Teamsters local and Garrettsville Eagles Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Davis); sons, Tom Jr., and Brian Crawford, both of Ravenna; daughter, Nanette “Sissy” of Mantua; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Harold of Pliny, WV, John, Jack, Ellsworth and Elwood, all of Milton, WV; and sisters Arvena Gibson and Christine Sargent, both of Milton, WV, and Irene Smith of Huntington, WV. A son, Matthew died in 1990. His brother, Gerald, also died previously. Calling hours were held Friday at Green’s Funeral Home in Mantua, with the Rev. Bruce Chouinard officiating. The body was cremated.
Vernon Wayne Winters
Vernon Wayne Winters, 53, of St. Albans, formerly of Buffalo, died July 23, 2000, at home after a short illness.
He was a graduate of Buffalo High School, a meter mechanic for the South Putnam Public Service District and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving: wife, Judy K. Carpenter Winters; daughter, Deborah Ann Smith of Bancroft; son, Jason Wayne Winters of Hometown; stepsons, Buddy Thomas of South Charleston and Charles Thomas of St. Albans; sister, Carolyn Barnett of Myerstwon, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

Terrence P. James
Terrance P. James, 77, of Scott Depot, formerly of Morgantown, died July 24, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital.
He was a member of Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane, and past secretary of the Parish Council. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and DAV and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a graduate of Washington University and a native of Oregon.
Surviving: wife, Marie James; daughters, Linda James of Green Valley, Arizona, Joyce Warren of Scott Depot and Lynda Perret of LaPlace, Louisiana; sons, Wayne Turley of St. Albans and David Turley of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Mary Koutecky of Seattle; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Clara Sharratt, 91, of Hurricane died July 29, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Ernestine Calabrese
Ernestine Snyder Calabrese, 84, of Scott Depot died July 28, 2000, after a short illness.
She was a homemaker, a member of Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane, and United Commercial Travelers. She was a native of Clarksburg and a resident of the Kanawha Valley for more than 50 years.
Surviving: sons, Rocky of Charleston and Tom of Hurricane, daughters, Cecelia Buckner of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Joan Spradling of Hurricane and Debbie Tignor of Sissonville; brother, William Snyder of Chevy Chase, Maryland; sisters, Gay Anguli and Jean Lynch, both of Clarksburg, and Patty Campbell of Clinton, New Jersey; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Service was held July 31, 2000 at West Virginia Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. J. Stephen Vallelonga officiating. Burial followed in the cemetery. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrnangements.
