Belva M. Rutledge
Belva Mildred Rutledge, 74, of Hurricane died August 27, 2000, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
She was a retired licensed practical nurse from Thomas Memorial Hospital and a graduate of Dunbar High School and Garnet Career Center.
Surviving: daughters, Alice Kaye Huffman of St. Albans, Cheryl Irene Snyder of Hurricane and Marsha Ann Cook of Spencer; son, David Reed Rutledge Sr. of Fraziers Bottom; mother, Xylphia Davis Reed of Scott Depot; sisters, Dorothy Coen of White Pine, Tennessee and Martha Goodall of Scott Depot; brother, S.E. Reed of Buffalo; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, August 31, 2000, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with S.E. Reed officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House.
Mary Sue DuBuis
Mary Sue Dubuis, 65, of Sigourney, Iowa died August 26, 2000, in University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, after a long illness.
She was born in Winfield to Harold W. and Nellie Susan (Christy) Baldwin and graduated from Winfield High School in 1954. She married Ernest DuBuis in 1956 at Winfield Presbyterian Church and became a military wife for 17 years before settling in Iowa. She was a member of Sigourney Christian Church and a volunteer with the Keokuk County Red Cross. She enjoyed sewing, reading and traveling.
Surviving: husband, Ernest “Ernie” DuBuis; daughter, Pamela Kacmarynski of North Liberty, Iowa; son, Jeffery of North Liberty; sisters, Nancy and Carolyn Baldwin, both of Winfield; brothers, Kenneth Baldwin of St. Albans and Stanley Baldwin of Winfield; five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Baldwin.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2000, at Sigourney Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Davidson officiating. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel, Sigourney, is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests donations to the Sigourney Christian Church Mission Outreach, Sigourney, Iowa 52591.
Hershel H. Gillispie
Hershel H. Gillispie, 84, of Fraziers Bottom died August 28, 2000, at home after a long illness.
He was retired from Houdaille Industries, Huntington, with 27 years' service and was a retired farmer. He attended Mount Olive Church, Milton, was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW Post in Milton, and was a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: wife, Helen Gillispie; daughter, Brenda Gail Grant of Fraziers Bottom; sons, Hershel Jon of King, North Carolina and Glen Michael of Fraziers Bottom; sisters, Dollie Fisher of Hurricane, Dorothy Woodard and Edie Reynolds, both of Milton; brother, Everett of Hurricane; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, August 31, 2000, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Don Reynolds and the Rev. Ray Sovine officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom.
Henry M. Henson
Henry Murray Henson, 33, of Winfield died August 28, 2000, in the federal penitentiary in Beckley after an apparent heart attack.
He was owner of Tri-State Restoration Services, was an Army veteran, a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a member of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and Moose Lodge 565, Nitro.
Surviving: wife, Renee Gentry Henson; sons, Derrick Kyle and Christopher Murray Henson, both of Pt. Pleasant, and Tyler Kendrick Willard of St. Albans; father, Henry S. Henson of Winfield; mother, Judy Seats of Edisto Island, South Carolina; paternal grandmother, Luella Henson of Winfield; maternal grandmother, Barbara Holstein of South Charleston.

Robert Stewart Cowie, 47, of Hurricane died August 28, 2000, after a sudden illness.
He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Ona, and the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Cleveland.
Surviving: stepfather, William Fulks of Culloden; brothers, William Cowie of Milton and Billy Fulks of Culloden; sisters, Carol Johnson of Milton, Kathy Fulks of Santa Monica, California and Mary Alexander of Huntington.
Service was held Friday, September 1, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
Arnold Bartley
Arnold Bartley, 71 of East Palatka, Florida died August 20, 2000.
He was born in Virgie, Kentucky and was a former resident of Eleanor.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine and daughter, Tammy.
Graveside service was held Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at Oakhill Cemetery, Palatka, with John Spillers officiating. Watts Funeral Home, San Mateo, was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur O'Dell “Dale” Stover, 66, of Buffalo died August 30, 2000, in SunBridge of Putnam after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Buffalo.

Lenville Lynn Johnson
Lenville Lynn Johnson, 70, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 28, 2000 in Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Thomas J. DuBose officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born July 23, 1930 in Cabell Co., WV a son of the late Roy Richard and Verona (Elkins) Johnson. He was also preceded in his death by his brother, Leonard Scott Johnson and his step daughter, Miki Worley. He was a member of the Milton Baptist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Spencer, WV and Beni Kedem, Charleston, WV. He was a manager at Blue Spruce Community (Parrish Manor). He was a former salesman for Moses Pontiac, Huntington. He was also a supervisor for Perry Norville Shoe Company for many years in Huntington. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Clara Bledsoe Johnson; one very special granddaughter, Lindsey Wallace; three daughters, Robbin Johnson of New Hampshire, Mitzi Johnson of Clearwater, FL, and Sharon Fuller of Huntington; seven sisters and five brothers-in-law, Earsie and Billy Evert Dillon of Barboursville, Pauline Dillon of Barboursville, Violet and Herbert Dillon of Milton, Lillian and Jarrell Bowyer all of Barboursville, Rozella and Richard Crane of Milton, Piney and Thomas McClelan of Scott Depot, and Janice Johnson of Milton.
Charles W. “Tommy” Crawford
Charles W. “Tommy” Crawford, 87, of Milton, WV., passed away Thursday, August 31, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 2, 2000, at Milton Funeral Home by Rev. Fred Ramey. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was retired from ACF Industries with 30 years of service. He was an avid musician who played his guitar throughout the area. Mr. Crawford was born July 14, 1913, in Huntington, WV, a son of the late James Crawford and Lizzie Blankenship Crawford. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian “Tag” Crawford; one brother and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Mary M. Crawford; one son, Richard Crawford of Huntington, W.Va.; one daughter, Peggy Belcher of Huntington, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Zales Kenneth Douglas
Zales Kenneth Douglas, 77, of Culloden, WV, went to be with his Lord at St. Mary's Hospital on Wednesday, August 30, 2000. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 2, 2000, at Milton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, WV. He was retired from Kroger Warehouse, Kanawha City, with 39 years of service. Mr. Douglas was a member of Judson Baptist Church, Scott Depot, an Army veteran of World War II and a Pearl Harbour survivor. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lena Byrom Douglas; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger “Doug” and Diana Douglas of Winfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Colin Hunter of Hurricane; and three brothers, Harold Douglas of Mississippi, Norman Douglas of Huntington and Abe Douglas of New York. He is also survived by five granddaughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one son, James W. Douglas.
James Steven Nester
James Steven Nester, 55, of Huntington, husband of Wanda Sue Jones Nester, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 2, 2000, at Chapman's Mortuary with George Welty officiating. He was born June 13, 1945, in Richlands, Va., a son of Mary Rose Bolash Nester of Peterstown, W.Va., and the late John C. Nester. He worked for the Cabell County Board of Education as the principal at Guyandotte Elementary School. He was a member of Norway Avenue Church of Christ and the “NAESP” National Association of Elementary School Principals. He attended West Virginia Tech and graduated from Marshall University with a degree in Elementary Education and a Masters in Elementary Administration. He was an Eagle Scout, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era, and a Marshall University alumni. Additional survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James Steven Nester Jr. and Kristy Nester of Huntington; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, John C. Nester III and Judy Nester of Charleston, W.Va., Jerry and Carol Nester of New Jersey and Jeff Nester of Florida; three grandchildren, Leesha Marie Campbell, James “Trey” Steven Nester III and Jon Hayden Nester; his mother-in-law, Wanda Jones and sister-in-law, Dreama Lee Alvis, both of Rupert, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Donations may be given to the Norway Avenue Church of Christ at 1400 Norway Avenue, Huntington, WV 25705. Graveside services were conducted Sunday at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville, W.Va., with George Welty and Charlie Stevens officiating. VFW Post 5581 from Richwood, W.Va., conducted Military Graveside Rites.
Delphia Lucille Vance Lawson
Delphia Lucille Vance Lawson, 81, of Barboursville, went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2000, in Heritage Center, Huntington, after a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 2, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial in Triplett Cemetery, Pleasant View, W.Va. She was born March 26, 1919, in Sheridan, W.Va, a daughter of the late Pleasant Vance and Nevada “Vada” Triplett Vance Adkins. She was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church and was an active volunteer at ECCHO in Milton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Logan “Hoover” Lawson and one sister, Anna Lee Messenger. She is survived by one daughter, Donna Maynard of Lexington, North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Barbara Thompson of Barboursville; four grandchildren, Bonnie, Stephanie, Charlett and Steven, and seven great-grandchildren all of North Carolina; two brothers, Thurl Vance of Wayne and Warren Vance of Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be sent to a very caring organization, Hospice of Huntington, in memory of Delphia.
