M.W. Harman, 103, of Dunbar, formerly of Nitro, died Oct. 22, 2000, after a short illness.
He was a retired research chemist for Monsanto Chemical Co., Nitro. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of First Church United Methodist, Dunbar.
Surviving: daughter, Mary Hanning of Nitro; stepson, W.T. Stewart of Oak Island, N.C.; stepdaughter, Mildred Stewart Caldwell of Dunbar; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Vallas Bernard Bell, 60, of Hurricane, husband of Barbara Mattox Bell died Thursday, October 19, 2000 at his home. He
was an employee of Rish Equipment Co. Survivors also include a son, Paul Bell of Hurricane; a daughter, Doretta Bell of Hurricane; three brothers, Kennith Bell and Roger Bell both of Griffithsville, and Dallas Bell of Hamlin; and five sisters, Dottie Adkins of Sias, Lucille Plumley and Janice Adkins both of Hamlin, Mary Price of Griffithsville and Daphene Collins of Hermitage, Tenn. Charles “Jeff” McCallister
Charles “Jeff” McCallister, age 70, of Charlie's Creek Culloden, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 18 doing what he loved to do, fishing on the river. He was a decorated soldier, 2nd Infantry of the Korean War. He was a retired lineman for IBEW Local 317 of Huntington. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carol Ann Butcher McCallister, two daughters, Sheri of Culloden, Susan and her husband Timmy Childers of Winfield; one son, Jeffrey and his wife Trina; four grandsons, Jeremy, Cody, Rhett and Tyler; a granddaughter, Leanne; brothers, Dan, Lloyd and Cabell, all of Culloden; sisters, Delores and Dorthy of Point Pleasant. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

She was born June 26, 1927 in Henlawson, Logan County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Carlos and Susie Whitt Stollings. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Cleo Brumfield. She was a homemaker and attended Guyandoote Church of Christ. Charles N. Cochran, 77, of Huntington died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. There also will be a memorial service Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. He was born June 22, 1923, in Midwest, Wyo., son of the late Alex M. and Carrie Nelson Cochran. Mr. Cochran was a retired professor at West Virginia University, Marshall University and Ohio University Southern Campus; a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force, serving in World War II; a member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church; a member of the Association of Computing Machinery since 1963, and was the first director of the National Youth Science Camp in Pocahontas County. Survivors include his wife, Mary Leah Judy Cochran; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy C. and Frank O'Hara of Keyser, W.Va, Jill Cochran of Dunbar, W.Va., and Joan and John McPherson of Huntington; one sister, Mrs. Cleata Naldrett of Clifford, Ind.; one brother, Jack B. Kyle Gene Lewis, 58, of Milton loving son husband, father, grandfather, uncle, good friend and neighbor, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 16, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 19, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Tracy Mills officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park Milton. He was born May 8, 1942, in Cabell County, W.Va, a son of Theresa Hicks Lewis of Milton, and the late L. W. “Pert” Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Roy G. Lewis. He was a member and trustee of Union Baptist Church, Milton, a United States Army veteran who served in Vietnam, a former member of the Milton Volunteer Fire Department, a former justice of the peace and member of Milton Town Council and a member of the Covered Bridge Antique Car Club. Kyle was retired from BASF Corporation and lovingly gave of himself to persons in the community through many hours of home repairs, cutting lawns and transportation to appointments. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sandra “Susie” Lewis; two sons and their mates, Bryon and Mary Sue “Susie” Lewis of Ona, and Justin Lewis and Karey Fugate of Milton; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bill Cyrus of Milton; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Bonnie Lewis of Milton; and four grandchildren Brittany, Camron , SueAnna, and Kaydee, and many nieces and nephews.

Randall Odell “Randy” Adkins Sr., 53, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Branchland, WVa, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2000, in Cleveland. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 19, 2000, at Bethlehem United Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Perry, the Rev. Vernon Perry and the Rev. Truman Adkins. Burial in Vincent Adkins Cemetery. He was born August 23, 1947, a son of the late Roscoe Adkins Sr. and Inez Bradshaw Adkins. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carvel, Roscoe Jr., and James Adkins; three sisters, Pearl Herrenkohl, Maxine Jenkins and Lorene Bartram. He was the former husband of Loretta Adkins. He is survived by one son, Randall O. Adkins Jr. of Ohio; one stepson, Jimmy Birch of Ohio; two sisters, Royal Goodman of Cleveland, Ohio, and Donna Adkins of Branchland, WV; and three brothers, Daniel Adkins of Michigan, Glenn Adkins of Ohio and Darrell Adkins of Texas. Charlotte Adkins Woodall, 66, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 20, 2000, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Tom Chafin officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born June 7, 1934, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of Gertrude Adkins of Huntington and the late Thomas R. Adkins. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Belva Slone. She was a secretary for the Camp Fire Girls. In addition to her mother, survivors include one daughter, Annette Tooley of Huntington; four sons, Thomas “Mike” Woodall of Huntington, Ralph “Kenny” Woodall of Milton, W.Va., Glen Woodall of Huntington and Mark Woodall of Ona, W.Va.; three sisters, Velma Gillespie of Arkansas, and Roberta Hall and Barbara Adkins, both of Huntington; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Margaret was born in West Virginia on September 26, 1917. She was a daughter of the late Froude E. and Dolle Steele Grass. Margaret was also preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Murrell; a sister, Madalyn Holley and on March 5, 1975, by her husband, John William Murrell. She was a member of Milton Baptist Church and a homemaker. John Paul Bright
John Paul Bright, 63, of Scott Depot, formerly of South Charleston, died October 8, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was an elder at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church and a former elder at Rock Lake Presbyterian Church, South Charleston. He was a former teacher at Spring Hill Junior High School, a former supervisor at FMC Ordinance Plant, a retired supervisor of rehab engineering at West Virginia Rehabilitation Services and a former teacher at Centre College. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 58, St. Albans, and a co-founder of the Valley Woodworkers Club. He received a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology.
Surviving: wife, Nancy Lynn Kuhn Bright; daughter, Melissa “Missy” Bright Cox of Lexington, Kentucky; sisters, Alla Alice Johnson of Charleston, South Carolina and Barbara Jane Nixon of Knoxville, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lessie Kessee; two brothers, Thomas Bartram and Carl Junior Bartram; and one grandchild, Adam Ray Conn. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Adkins Bartram; one daughter, Lessie Cathern Conn of Huntington; and four sons, Phillip Wilson Bartram of Bel Air, Md., and Gary Bartram, Stanley Bartram and Lewis C. She was well cared for by her loving and caring niece and nephew, Linda and Ray Linville of Ona, with whom she made her home for several years. She had three very special friends, Kim Aldridge, Carman Waugh and Clarenda Bryant.

She was born on Oct. 3, 1938, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of Ada Jenkins Carnes of Milton and the late Neace Lester Carnes. Jackie was a member of Beta Sigma Phi - Chapter Xi Beta Phi. She was a member of the Million Dollar Club with the Huntington Board of Realtors. She was a participant in Realtor Community Service. She also participated in the Habitat for Humanity project sponsored by Huntington. She was on the Board of Realtors. She was a graduate of Barboursville High School, class of 1957. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Lester Powers; two daughters and one son-in-law, Terry Lynn and Robert Ferris of Proctorville, Ohio, and Cristie Powers of Milton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Bob Gum of Norcross, Ga., and Judy and Randy Davis of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; three grandsons, Scott Bennett, Cole Ferris and Briar Ferris; special friends Della and Gary Miller; and a host of friends and family. Scott Bennett, Bob Gum, Adam Gum, Art Powers, Bill Harvey and Jerry Bartram served as pallbearers. Cole Ferris served as an honorary pallbearer.

Helen Francis Burdette McCallister, 78, of Culloden, wife of Lloyd McCallister, died Friday, October 13, 2000 at home. She was a homemaker. Also surviving are three daughters, Violet Jane Lambert and Vickie Lynn McCallister, both of Culloden, and Venesa Gail Smith of Charleston; a son, Vernon Dale McCallister of Culloden; a brother, Charles Burdette of Hurricane; and two sisters, Evelyn Tyree of Proctorville, Ohio, and Betty Joanne Johnson of Deland, Fla. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane; burial in Culloden Cemetery.
Mabel “Tootsie” Gibson
Mrs. Mabel “Tootsie” Gibson, 83, of Nitro, W.Va., passed away Sunday, October 15, 2000, at home after a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, October 17, 2000, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel in Poca, W.Va., with the Rev. Delmar Young officiating. Burial in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, W.Va. Mrs. Gibson was a member of the United Baptist Mission in Nitro. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Neada Pauley of St. Albans; four sons, Leonard Gibson of Rocky Fork, Bobby Gibson of Poca, Darrell Gibson of Hurricane and Floyd Gibson of St. Albans one sister, Mrs. Nancy Adkins of Culloden; seven brothers, Ray Chapman of Lesage, Orville Chapman, Lloyd Chapman, Wesley Chapman and Carl Chapman all of Milton, Charles Chapman of Fraziers Bottom and Clifford Chapman of Ashton; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren
Ruby L. Donall
Ruby L. Donall, 76, of Barboursville, W.Va., died Saturday, October 14, 2000, at home. Funeral services were conducted a Tuesday, October 17, 2000, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, W.Va., by the Rev. Jeff Sizemore. Burial in Sanders Cemetery, Ranger, W.Va. She was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Lincoln County, W.Va, daughter of the late Abe Noe and Ellen Watts Noe Ferguson. Mrs. Donall was a seamstress for Maidenform for 47 years and a member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Donall. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Georgia Donall of Barboursville, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Carrie Donall and Pug Donall; four brothers, Willie Cyfers and Denny Cyfers, both of Ranger, W.Va., Wayne Noe of Cleveland, Ohio, and Glenn Noe of Valparaiso, Ind.; four sisters-in-law, Leona Ferguson, Alice Adkins, Juanita Robinette and Tikki Donall; one brother-in-law, James Donall; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Henry D. “Drew” Morrison
Henry D. “Drew” Morrison, 84, of Barboursville, W.Va., died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Brian Wray. Entombment in Woodmere Memorial Park. He was born May 12, 1913, in Cabell County, a son of the late Calvary and Nannie Deacon Morrison. He was retired from Appalachian Electric Power and he attended Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. He was a member of Aracoma Lodge #99, Logan, and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Charleston. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Morrison; his second wife, Genevieve E. “Jenny” Morrison; two sisters, Ocie Roth and Lois Cordial; and four brothers, Freer, Dawson, John and Dallas Morrison. He is survived by two stepdaughters, Jacqueline McCoy of Huntington and Judith Walker of Mullens, W.Va.

Janet Hawkins Stowasser Sadler, 71, of Barboursville, W.Va., died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Huntington, W.Va., daughter of the late Joseph Anton Garfield Stowasser and Lula Franklin Ramsey Stowasser. She was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Samuel Sadler; and one brother, Joseph Stowasser. She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Ann Sadler of Barboursville; two sons, William Anton “Tony” Sadler of Roanoke, Va., and Samuel Alan Sadler of Barboursville; and one sister, Ann Stephenson of Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington.
