She was a former employee of Woodrum's Furniture Co., Charleston, and the Charleston School of Commerce.

Hada I. “Mom-Mom” Cottrill Hartley, 87, of Red House died November 17, 2000, at home after a short illness.
She attended Wade Chapel Church, Red House. She was president of the Route 34 Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.

She was a graduate of Winfield High School and West Virginia State College.

Alton R. Oxley, 57, of Hurricane died November 18, 2000, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a sudden illness.
He was retired from FMC Corp. with 26 years' service. He was a graduate of Hurricane High School and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Teresa Lynn Thomasson, 36, of Hurricane died November 19, 2000, in Cleveland Clinic after a long illness.
She was manager of Wolford Apartments, Hurricane, and attended First Baptist Church of Hurricane. She was a lifelong resident of Hurricane.

Harold G. Farra Jr., 39, of Hurricane died November 20, 2000, from injuries received in a traffic accident in Huntington.
He was a maintenance supervisor with Travel Lodge.

Augustus Gordon Tinsley, 84, of Hurricane, formerly of Charleston, died November 21, 2000, at home after a short illness.
He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, retired from Union Carbide, South Charleston, with 37 years' service and a former employee of American-Arabian Oil Co., Saudi Arabia. He attended Faith Missionary Baptist Church, St. Albans.
Surviving: sons, James Murphy of Morgantown and Joseph Michael of Orlando, Florida.
The body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University. Burial at a later date in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Ruth Ann Racer, 70, of Winfield died November 21, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a former nurse for Thomas Memorial Hospital and a retired supervisor of respiratory therapy for St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington. She was a member of Winfield Community Church.

Garrison Ramsey, 83, of East Lynn, W.Va, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the home of his son. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at the home of Garrison Ramsey, Rt. 2 East Lynn, by Minister Emual Adkins and Minister Delmer Adkins. Burial in Ramsey-Cende Cemetery near the home. He was born Aug. 10, 1917, in Mingo County, a son of the late Willard Ramsey and Spicy Adkins. He was retired from Steel of West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Lee Ramsey; one daughter, Sue Ramsey; one grandson, Jason Cende; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Spicy and James P. Cende and Polly Ramsey, both of East Lynn; one son and daughter-in-law, Jones L. and Patty Ramsey of Branchland; six sisters, Candice Ramsey of East Lynn and Ella, Mickey, Mousie, Bonnie and Mary, all of Michigan; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Orville and Shirley Ramsey and Tildon Ramsey, all of Michigan, and Jewett Adkins of Huntington; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ella and Leonard Bertram; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He made his home with Jennifer Eaves until he went to his son and daughter-in-law's to stay due to his illness. Amy Dionne Smith Dempsey, 29, of Milton, W.Va., went to be with her Lord, after fighting a courageous battle against cancer, on Nov. 25, 2000. She was born on June 13, 1971 in Huntington, W.Va., daughter of Robert “Bob” Smith and Linda Wallace Smith of Huntington, W.Va. She was preceded in death by two grandparents, Gilbert G. Smith and Pete Wallace; and father-in-law, Roy Dempsey. She was a graduate of Milton High school class of 1989, attended Marshall University for three years working toward a degree in business management. Amy and her husband, Jack, owned Dempsey Construction. She is survived by her loving husband, Roy “Jack” Dempsey; two sons, Luke Evans Dempsey and Mason McKenzie Dempsey; grandparents, Jessie Smith Epling and Susie Wallace; and a very special mother-in-law, Penny Dempsey. Donald Gene Cardwell, 66, of Huntington, passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born April 2, 1934, in Cabell County, a son of the late Lonnie and Hettie Gue Cardwell. L.J. (Junior) Hesson, 77, of Barboursville, passed away Saturday , Nov. 25, 2000. He was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Cabell County, a son of the late Joseph and Cora Brannen Hesson. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He was retired from Houdaille Industries after 35 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving: sons, Timothy R. of Tornado and Charles E. of Hometown; sister, Ruth McClanahan of Red House; seven grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, November 17, 2000, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Kenny Roberts officiating. Burial was in Showen Cemetery, Bancroft.
