Marty S. Nease, 49, of Buffalo died November 15, 2000, at home after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Buffalo and attended Buffalo United Methodist Church.
Surviving: sisters, Marjorie Croson of St. Albans, Mary Smith of Eleanor and Sharon Crowell of Buffalo; brothers, Joseph of Parkersburg and Richard of Buffalo.
Service was held Saturday, November 18, 2000, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Denver Tucker officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

John L. Landers
John L. Landers, 67, of Bancroft died November 16, 2000, at home.
He was retired from the Putnam County Courthouse and was a former employee of Avtex Fibers, Nitro. He was an Army veteran, a member of the American Textile Workers and a member and former custodian at Bancroft Church of God Mission.
Surviving: wife, Ruth Ann Sigman Landers; son, Timothy P. of Bancroft; brother, Paul of Bancroft.
Service was held Saturday, November 18, 2000, at Bancroft Church of God Mission with Pastor John Taylor and Paul Arthur officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert E. Burns
Robert E. Burns, 84, of Hurricane died November 15, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
He was a retired farmer, a disabled Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Hurricane.
Surviving: sisters, Agnes B. Henderson of Hurricane, Opal Perez of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, L. Frances Tibbets of Naples, Florida, and Gretna B. Michels of Charleston; brothers, Randall L. of Hurricane, Ray K. of Kenna and Richard A. of St. Albans; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Saturday, November 18, 2000, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

George Rider
George Rider, 88, of Hurricane, formerly of Eleanor, died October 31, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
He was a native of Lizemores, Clay County, and a retired miner and carpenter. He was a Protestant and a former resident of Dunbar.
Surviving: brother, Woodrow Rider of Lizemores; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was held Monday, November 6, 2000, in Sunset Cemetery, Fola, Clay County. Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Ann Scott
Shirley Ann Scott, 62, of Milton died November 8, 2000.
She worked for many years in the mechanical piping industry and was the former owner of S.A. Scott Mechanical Piping.
Surviving: cousin, Trudy Black of Milton; aunt, Ruth McCormick of Milton; uncle, of Charles Foster of Milton; several cousins.
Graveside service was held Friday, November 10, 2000, in Milton Cemetery with the Rev. Jackie Clark officiating. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

James H. Smith
James H. Smith, 72, of Bancroft died Novembwer 9, 2000, at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was retired from Bert Wolfe Ford, Charleston, with 37 years' service and was a lifelong resident of Bancroft.
Surviving: wife, Verdella; son, James H. Smith II of Dunbar; sisters, Betty Doss of Hurricane, Janet Sue Martin of Nitro and Dorothy “Boots” Dean of Tampa, Florida; three grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Saturday, November 11, 2000, in Lilly Cemtery, Poca, with Paul Arthur officiating. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Mae Edwards
Gladys Mae Edwards, 88, of Hurricane died November 9, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital.
She was a homemaker and member of Trace Fork Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving: son, James Edwards of Culloden; daughters, Janet Adkins of Cleveland, Tennessee and Pauline Hall of Hurricane; sisters, Norma Foster of Lafayette, Indidna and Freda Leggitt of Charleston; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Service was held Saturday, November 11, 2000, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jim Landis officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

John David Nelson Jr.
John David Nelson Jr., 57, of Winfield died November 9, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital from complications following surgery.
He was a retired educator and coach, having served in Kanawha County schools for 25 years.
Surviving: wife, Nancy Mathes Nelson; daughters, Beth Carnifix of Winfield and Lisa Price of Wilmington, North Carolina; son, Kenneth of Winfield; mother, Edna Allen Nelson of Eleanor; sisters, Judy McClanahan of Nitro and Gloria Hill of Apple Grove; brothers, K.T. of Winfield and Rex of Hurricane; six grandchildren.
Service was held Sunday, November 12, 2000, at Chapman Funeral home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. David Panaro officiating. Burial was in Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 4510 Pennsylvania Avenue, Charleston WV 25302.

Charlotte L. Milton
Charlotte L. Milton, 79, of Hurricane died November 10, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington.
She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Hurricane, and a homemaker.
Surviving: sons, Raleigh E. of Welcome, Maryland and Maurice W. of Hurricane; daughters, Bonnie S. Martin of Goodrich, Michigan, Barbara Sue McGee of Cincinnati, and Loretha B. Wilcox of Hurricane; sister, Avis Bryant of Hurricane; 13 grandchildren.
Service was held Monday, November 13, 2000, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Husson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Gladys M. Brown, 86, of Bancroft died November 11, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and attended Kanawha Valley Baptist Church.
Surviving: daughter, Boots Workman of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; sons, Charles W. Brown of Poca and James T. Brown of Charleston; brother, Clarence Booth of Barboursville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Monday, November 13, 2000, at Tyler Mountain Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Cross Lanes, with Brother Joe Fisher officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Charley Templeton
Charley Templeton, 82, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. George Surgeon officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Charley was born Jan. 6, 1918, a son of the late Oris “Hughie” and Annie Clark Templeton. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Lewis Templeton and a sister, Virginia Templeton. He was a retired mechanic for Walker Lift. He was a member of Lawrence Chapel Church, Glenwood. He is survived by his wife, Katherine B. Templeton; one stepson David Black, and his wife, Vonda, of Ona; one step daughter, Sarah Bell, and her husband, Jerry, of Culloden; a special niece, Lora Ann Fisher, and her husband, Lee; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gordon and Ircyl Black; one foster sister, Aline Meadows; one foster brother, Gene Gross, and his wife, Mary; and several nieces and nephews. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Lyle Leslie Dilley
Lyle Leslie Dilley, 81, of Barboursville, husband of Amanda Bailey Dilley, died Friday, November 10, 2000, in St Mary's Hospital. He was an electrician for C&O and a U.S. Army veteran of WWI. Also surviving are three sons, Roger Dilley of Ona, Roy Dilley of Huntington and David Dilley of Barboursville; one daughter, Linda Anderson of Fabirum, Ga.; one brother, Robert Huff of Las Vegas; and one sister, Leona Elder of Bridgeport, W.Va. Funeral services were held Monday, November 13, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Swann Cemetery, Barboursville.

Charles M. Holley
Charles M. Holley, 78, of the Royal Care Health Care Center, formerly of Kingston, Tenn., husband of Juanita Holley, died Wednesday, November 8, 2000 in Roane Medical Center, Harriman, Tenn. Survivors include two daughters, Julia Thabit of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Nita Holley of Kingston; and one son, Charles M. “Buddy” Holley of Harriman. Graveside services were held Monday, November 13, 2000 in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Robin R. Harrington
Robin R. Harrington, 45, of Barboursville, husband of Judith Bills Harrington, died Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at home. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Sherwood Thompson. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He worked at Midway Ford of Hurricane. Also surviving are two daughters, Amanda Gall Harrington and Robbyn Ashley Harrington and one grandson, Trysten Dekota Harrington, all at home. He was the son of Donald Kolodzik of Barboursville and the late Ellen Berry Kolodzik. Also surviving are six sisters, Cindy Noe of Illinois, Freda Harrington Younger of Kentucky, Sherry Blasavage of Kentucky, Juanita Holmes of Indiana, Maya Slone of Indiana and Amber Chartrand of Indiana; three brothers, Terry Harrington of Ohio, and Troy Bevis and Juan Bevis, both of Indiana; and his biological mother, Wanda Bevis of Indiana.

William K. Marie
William K. Marie, 47, of Milton, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in St. Francis Hospital Charleston, W.Va. Those who knew him saw him laughing and smiling and knowing true joy. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Milton Funeral Home by the Rev. Shane Shamblin. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was a commercial heating and air conditioning installer and home builder. He was born Jan. 20, 1953, in Charleston, W.Va., a son of William Cecil Marie and Lola Violet Neal Marie of Milton. Mr. Marie was a member of Whitesville Baptist Church. Also surviving are his wife, Patricia Waddell Marie; one daughter, Aubry Catherine Marie of Newport News, Va.; two stepsons, James Robert McDaniel and wife Natalie of Sadieville, Ky, and Rod Ian McDaniel of Greensboro, N.C.; a special aunt, Vida Tucker of Seth, W.Va.; two sisters, Cynthia Marie of Milton, W.Va, and Susan Wagoner of Barboursville, W.Va.; and two brothers, Gregory Clay Marie of Ohio, and Keith Marie of Milton, W.Va.

Verlin E. Bias
Verlin E. Bias, 74, of Huntington, W.Va., husband of Mary Graham Bias, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Minister Alan Cole officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. He was born Oct. 26, 1926, in West Hamlin, W.Va, a son of the late Asa Ellsworth and Della Evans Bias. He was a retired mill roller for INCO with 35 years of service, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post 177. He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Bias; a sister, Charlene Bias; a brother, Kermit Bias; and a great-grandson, Robert Dakota Scaggs. In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons and three daughters-in-law, Larry and Susan Bias of Michigan, Ronald Bias of Ona, W.Va., David and Susan Bias of Barboursville, W.Va., Dallas Bias of Ona, W.Va., and Steve and Pam Bias of Ona, W.Va.; one sister, Ruth Ann Bias and one brother, Dallas Bias, both of Huntington, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Shirley Ann Scott
Shirley Ann Scott, 62, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000. Graveside services were held on Friday, Nov. 10, 2000 at Milton Cemetery with the Rev. Jackie Clark officiating. She was born March 9, 1938, in Milton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Estel and Bertha Foster Scott. Shirley worked many years in the mechanical piping industry. She also had her own company, SA Scott Mechanical Piping, for many years. She is survived by a very dear cousin, Trudy Black of Milton; a long-time friend, Eloise McDonie of Milton; an aunt, Ruth McCormick of Milton; uncle, Charles Foster of Milton; many cousins and a host of very special friends whom Shirley cared for deeply. Heck Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dennis F. Bryan
Dennis F. Bryan, 70, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at home. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville with the Rev. Craig Coster officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. He was born Nov. 15,1929, a son of the late John Russell and Julia Ann Black Bryan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janey Elouise Bryan. He is survived by four daughters, Sandra Walker of Prichard, Patricia Davis, Brenda Rider and Loretta Stollings, all of Milton; one son, Jackie Bryan of Culloden; one brother, Denvil Bryan; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Harley T. Jeffers, 84, of Barboursville, W.Va., formerly of St. Albans, widower of Lydia Hazlett Jeffers, died November 7, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington. He retired in 1980 from Union Carbide with 30 years of service, and was a former member of Four Mile United Baptist Church Branchland, W.Va. The family expresses their appreciation to his special caregiver, Linda Stevens. Surviving are two sons, Bernard Jeffers of Pasadena, Md, and Harold Jeffers of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one daughter, Jeanette J. Chapman of Barboursville, W.V; one sister, Lillie Patrick of West Hamlin W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral service were held Friday, November 10, 2000 at Casdorph and Curry Funeral Home, St Albans, with the Rev. Doug McComas officiating. Burial in Cunningham Memorial Park St. Albans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visual Impairments, American Foundation for the Blind - Southeast, 100 Peachtree St. Suite 620, Atlanta, GA 30303.

Lyle E. “Mickey” James
Lyle E. “Mickey” James, 62, of Huntington, died Monday, November 6, 2000, after an extended illness. He was born in Huntington on July 25, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Mabel James, and his first wife, Janice Adkins. He is survived by his current wife, Barbara Pelfrey James; seven daughters, Becky McComas of Chesapeake, Ohio, Shelly Turner and Jessie Eplin both of Salt Rock W.Va, and Michelle McFee, Rhonda Hicks, Laura Workman and Morgan James, all of Huntington; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Tatum and Ruth Williams of Huntington and two brothers, Sonny James of Huntington and Hugh James of Ona. He was a former employee of Ensign Electric and a member of USWA Local #5925 in Huntington. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangement. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington City Mission or other charity of choice.

Eugene “Gene” Farnsworth Peyton
Eugene “Gene” Farnsworth Peyton, 69, of Milton went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park Milton. He was born April 11, 1931, in Cabell Co, W.Va, a son of the late Walter and Lydia Cross Chapman Peyton. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Peyton. He was a retired carpenter for the former R.W. Ashworth Construction Co., Huntington. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Bodies. He was also a member of the Lebanon Lodge 68 AF & AM, Milton. He was a member of Local #302 for Carpenters. He was a member of the Beni Kedem Temple. He was a U.S. Amy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He attended Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, Ona. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bernice Wallace Peyton; two daughters, Doris Peyton of Milton and Delores Peyton at home; two sisters, Wilma Fetty and Donna Taylor, both of Milton.

Roy Lewis Padavick
Roy Lewis Padavick, 75, of Milton, passed away Friday, November 3, 2000, at his residence. He was born on October 19, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Carl and Thersa Wilkom Padavick. He was a retired sheet metal worker for Union Hall Local #33, Cleveland, Ohio. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Clara Dunn Padavick; one stepson Dennis Perry Jr. and his wife Michelle of Chardon, Ohio; three brothers, William Padavick and Joseph Padavick, both of Cleveland, Ohio, and Carl Padavick of Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Mildred Plasman and Rosemary Jones, both of Melbourne, Fla.; one step-granddaughter, Rachel Perry. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Heck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Woodrow Wilson Jenkins
Woodrow Wilson Jenkins, 82, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct 29, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. James Legg officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born Dec. 2, 1917, in Cabell County, a son of the late George and Rosia Cooper Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Leroy Jenkins and his sister, Susie Barnett. He was a retired carpenter for BASF, Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Norris Jenkins; one daughter, Sandra and Harry Hatfield of Milton; three sons, Jimmy Lee and Linda Jenkins of Milton, Woodrow “Woody” Wilson Jr. and Barbara Jenkins of Milton, and Eddie Wilson Jenkins at home; one brother, Ralph and Hazel Jenkins of Milton; one sister, Alma Forth of Fraziers Bottom; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren

Anna Jean Kirby, 72, of Milton died Monday, October 30, 2000 in St. Mary's Hospital. Survivors include two sons, Tom Kirby of Salt Rock and Dave Kirby of Milton; and three daughters, Vicki Harmon of Cross Lanes, Deborah Colliflower of Ona and Karen Adkins of Milton. Janet E. Hodges
Janet E. Hodges, age 84 of 3731 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, died Oct. 31, 2000, at home after a long illness. She was a homemaker and owner of the A to Z Supermarket and widow of Denver Hodges. Surviving are one daughter, Anna Lou Bledsoe, and husband Jarrell; three sons, David and his wife Joyce, Ronald and his wife Maxine and John, all of Hurricane; one sister, Mary Young of Hurricane; and 10 grandchildren, Robert, Charles, Daniel Brian, Robin, Jason and Adam Hodges, Lorrie Motlesheard, Bret Bledsoe and Vickie Grass and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

William A. Rymer II
William A. “Skip” Rymer II, 46, of Fraziers Bottom, formerly of St. Albans, died October 29, 2000, of injuries received in an automobile accident on WV Route 34, Winfield.
He was an employee of Flexsys, Nitro, a member of Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, and a native of Weston.
Surviving: wife, Barbara Rymer of Dunbar; daughters, Mamie Laura Rymer, Sarah Elizabeth Rymer and Maryellen Ann Rymer, all of Chantilly, Virginia; stepsons, Brian Allen of St. Albans, Shawn Allen of South Charleston and Core Morgan of Dunbar; parents, William and Mary Ellyson Rymer of St. Albans.
Service was held Wednesday, November 1, 2000, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Joe Hyde and the Rev. LeRoy Keeney officiating. Graveside service was in Stalnaker Cemetery, Glenville. Memorial donations may be made to Highlawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans WV 25177.
