Ima E. Moore, 79, of Hurricane died July 16, 2001, in Putnam General Hospital.
She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ, Hurricane.
She was preceded ind eath by her husband, Maury Moore.
Surviving: son, Paul Moore of Benton, Kentucky; daughters, Marilyn Griffith of Apex, North Carolina, Jean Pauley of Hurricane, and Diedre Green of Waverly; brother, Lindell Neal of North Carolina; sisters, Melba McCallister of Tennessee, Joyce Harlan of Charleston, JoAnn Dunlap of MacCorkle, and Myrna Parker of Charelston; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Minister Doug Minton officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Hurricane.

James David White
James David “J.D.” White, 45 of Hurricane died July 15, 2001, from injuries he received in an auto accident.
He was born January 23, 1956 in Kanawha County.
He was an employee at Putnam General Hospital and an assistant instructor at BCI Martial Arts, Cross Lanes. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Martha Boger, and his brother, Jackie Lee Boger.
Surviving: sons, Sean White of Fort Bragg, North Carolina and James White of Poca; father, John Boger of Lake City, Florida.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. William Beller officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville, Florida. Memorial donations may be made to BCI Martial Arts, 5455 Big Tyler Road, Cross Lanes WV 25313.

Linda Brown Lett
Linda Brown Lett, 59, of Hometown died July 16, 2001, as a result of an auto accident.
She was an employee of Putnam County Schools, currently a cook for Winfield Middle School. Previously, she was a beautician.
She was preceded in death by her father, William A. Brown Jr., and her son, Rusty Wagner.
Surviving: husband, John F. Lett Sr.; daughters, Angie Asbury, Pam Asbury Miller and Wendy Wagner Craigo; mother, Molly Brown; brother, William A. Brown III; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Franklin Lett officiating. Burial followed in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Williams James Gaten
Williams James Gaten, 87, of Kanawha City died July 17, 2001, at home after a long illness.
He was born in Bancroft on December 30, 1913. He was a scholar-athlete at Bancroft High School and at West Virginia Tech.
He served during World War II as a tech sergeant and was assigned to General Patton’s 1st Armored Division. While fighting at Anzio he suffered the loss of his right leg, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.
After the war he began a career in public service as a Deputy County Tax Assessor in Kanawha County. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Purple Hearts Association, VFW, and the 1st Armored Division Association,. He also was involved in the development of the new Grafton National Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius Francis and Della Agnes Dewees Gaten; brothers, Cornelius J., Arthur, Leon Patrick, and Bernard L.; sisters, Ruth E. Wightman, Grace Mary McSurley, Agnes E. Gambrell, and Joan M. Fridly.
Surviving: wife, Virginia Hunter Gaten; children, Leo P. of Tacoma, Washington, Judith Ann Stuart of Alexandria, Virginia, Mary J. Dawson of Vermilion, Ohio, William James Jr. of Main, Susan or Worcester, Massachusets, Theresa, Kevin, Neal, Steven and Anne Marie Brewster, all of Charleston, and Margaret of Fairmont; brothers, Maurice and Patrick T., both of Charleston and John T. of Idaho; sisters, Theresa Kilgore of Danville, Virginia, Barbara Anne Norton of Worchester, and Kathleen Middleton of Arizona; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, July 20, 2001, at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father John H. McDonnell officiating. Burial was at Showen Cemetery, Bancroft. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Alberta Mae Harrison
Alberta Mae Harrison, 74, of Liberty died Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Hubbard Hospice House.
She was a native of Liberty, former cook at Liberty Elementary School, former cook at the West Virginia Police Adademy, former waitress and cook at 76 Truck Stop in Hurricane and B&B Supermarket in Sissonville, and she attended Liberty Community Tabernacle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Junion Harrison; sister, Octavia Staats; and brother, William Harrison.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Joe McGraw of Cheylan; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Kathy Harrison of Liberty; sisters, Retha Harrision of Liberty and Loeda Strango of Delaware; brothers, Leroy, Marcus and Dale, all of Liberty, Harry of Nitro and Berto of Eleanor; granddaughter and husband, Becky and Delbert Wheeler; grandsons, Paul Harrison and Bobby McGraw; granddaughter, Mandy McGraw.
Service was held Saturday, July 21st, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Billy Casto officiating. Burial was in Asbury Cemetery, Liberty. Memorial donations may be sent to Liberty Community Tabernacle, Liberty WV 25124.

Thomas R. Marchal Sr.
Thomas R. Marchal Sr., 78, of Hurricane died July 17, 2001, at home after a long illness.
He was retired from the State of West Virginia Finance and Administration as a print shop employee, and a former employee of Owens Illinois bottling plant, Kanawha City, with 20 years service. He was a member of Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane. He was a 12-year resident of Hurricane, formerly of Charleston.
Surviving: daughters, Thomasina Shaffer of Seattle, Washington, Elizabeth Parlier of Morgonton, North Carolina; Janie Smith of Oil City, Pennsylvania, Diane Hamm of Bangor, Pennsylvania, Bonnie Thelen of Indianapolis, Indiana, Donna Miller, JoAnn Marchal, Virginia McCallister and Gretchen Ulbrich, all of Charleston; son, Thomas Marchal Jr. of Hurricane; sisters, Rita Hazelbeck of Charleston and Ruth Harrell of Norfolk, Virginia; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Catholic Church of the Ascension with the Rev. Father Neil R. Buchlein officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Grace F. Bennett
Mrs. Grace F. Bennett, 78, of Winfield died July 19, 2001, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Bennett was a resident of Winfield, formerly of Gauley Bridge and Nitro. She was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ.. She was an association member and avid supporter of the United Mine Workers of American.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wyatt J. “Bob” Bennett.
Surviving: daughters, Sharon Parog of St. Albans, Joan Savilla of Nitro, Nancy McLean of Chester, Virginia, and Judith Arthur of Hurricane; sons, Barney of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Tommy of Nitro and Charles of Chester; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Monday, July 23, 2001, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel, Poca, with Minister George Erwin and Elder Ray Reynolds officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House. Memorial donations may be sent to the Winfield Church of Christ, 2918 Winfield Road, Winfield WV 25213.

Harold E. Ellis
Harold E. “Ned” Ellis, 84, of Scott Depot died July 20, 2001, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was retired from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 625, Charleston, and was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane. He was a member of Putnam Masonic Lodge No. 139 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Beni Kedem Temple and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 116, Hurricane.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth E. Ellis.
Surviving: wife, Elizabeth Jean Ellis; sons, Gary E. of Scott Depot and Davie E. of Red House; step-children, Susan Duryea of Clinton, Connecticut and John Jay Walker of Lake Park, Georgia.
Service was held Monday, July 23, 2001, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee White and the Rev. Charles S. Thompson officiating. Burial with Masonic rites by Putnam Lodge No. 139 was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Lydia J. Beckelheimer-Barker
Lydia J. Beckelheimer-Barker, 87, of Battle Creek Mich., formerly of West Hamlin, W.Va., died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Michigan. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Fred Anderson. Burial in Franklin Cemetery, Branchland, W.Va. She was born January 16, 1914, in Lincoln County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Merritt Clay. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John Harvey Beckelheimer; her second husband, Frank Barker; one son, Gene H. Beckelheimer; one grandson, Randy Scaggs; three brothers, Wilson Clay, Chester Clay and Charles Clay; and two sisters, Ruby Dazio and Lillie Adkins. Lydia attended the Pentecostal Churches in West Virginia and the Apostolic Faith Temple in Battle Creek. She enjoyed watching birds, gardening, cooking and making quilts for her family. She is survived by seven daughters, Cora L. Harris of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Betty M. Scaggs of Brunswick, Ohio, Mary A. Perry of Ona, W.Va., and Dorothy M. Wilson, Sarah F. Smith, Peggy S. Smith and Anita G. Miles, all of Battle Creek Mich.; three sons, William O. Beckelheimer of Sherwood, Mich., Franklin D. Beckelheimer and John R. Beckelheimer, both of Battle Creek, Mich.; one brother, Jack Clay of Proctorville, Ohio; three sisters, Goldie Branch of Palm Bay, Fla., Margie Bledsoe and Annie Edwards, both of Barboursville; 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Roy D. Kirby
Roy D. Kirby, 61, of Culloden passed away to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Leroy Blevins officiating. Entombment in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. He was born July 15, 1940, in Charleston, W.Va., a son of the late Ralph Gilbert and June Hoover Kirby. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and James Dexter Kirby. He was a carpenter for Gibson Home Builders with 13 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Young Kirby; three sons, Roger Price of North Charleston, W.Va., William Kirby of Hurricane, W.Va., and Brett Kirby of Culloden, W.Va.; two daughters, Debbie Durbin of Buffalo, W.Va., and Teresa Gilfilen of Hurricane, W.Va.; three sisters, Judy Chapman of Ona, W.Va., Rosalie Edwards of Culloden, W.Va., and Lahoma Kirby of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Ralph Kirby Jr. of Milton, W.Va., Rick Kirby of Culloden, W.Va., and Harold Kirby of Lakeland, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Rufus Blake
Rufus Blake, 88, of Huntington, W.Va., died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Milton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Browning and the Rev. Gordon Rutherford officiating. Interment in Bias Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Blake was born May 13, 1913, in Mason County, W.Va., the son of the late John L. and Daisy Meadows Blake. He was superintendent of maintenance at Chemtron Corp., a member of the Olive Baptist Church, past president of the True Blue Credit Union and the West Virginia League of Federal Credit Unions. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal M. Edmonds Blake, three sisters, and one brother. He is survived. by one daughter and son-in-law, Janice M. and Leroy Spurlock of Huntington, W.Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, R. Hanley and Caroll Blake of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va, and Marlin S. and Cathy Blake of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Russell and Johnnie Blake of Glenwood, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. F.A. Constantino for his many years of medical care and compassion, and to Willa Mae Massie, his caregiver.

Virginia Lucile Henderson McConkey
Virginia Lucile Henderson McConkey, 99, died September 24, 2000, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Born August 1, 1901 in Tioga, Nicholas County, West Virginia, she lived most of her life in Barboursville and Huntington, West Virginia. In 1994 she went to Alaska to live with her son, Sam. She quickly became an enthusiastic Alaskan, kept up on every event, voted in every election and made many friends. An avid reader with a sharp mind, she kept everyone scrambling to keep her bookshelf supplied.
Lucile was a first grade teacher in Barboursville for 35 years after graduating three times from Marshall University. She held positions of honor and trust as Regent of her local chapter of the DAR, WV DAR delegate to Washington D.C., member of Order of Eastern Star, president of The Woman’s Club of Barboursville and Barboursville Garden Club, and a Sunday school teacher.
She was 13 years old before she saw an electric light and vividly remembers several Confederate uncles who had been wounded in the Civil War. Lucile will be remembered as a wonderful mother, a pious student of the Bible, a dedicated teacher, a flower gardener and a kind, gentle, and proper Southern lady.
Lucile is preceded in death by her husband, Sam A. McConkey; parents, Charles Joseph and Elizabeth Sydnor Henderson; siblings, Eve, George, Stuart, Minta, Rose and Ella. Her death was followed by that of her daughter, Virginia Webb Caldwell, Nov. 6th, 2000.
She is survived by her son Sam and his wife Jane of Fairbanks; grandchildren Elizabeth Caldwell Hoffman, Elizabeth McConkey Schok and husband Richard, Sam Allen and wife Billie; great-grandchildren Amanda and Nick Amrhein, Nicholas and Andrew Schok; niece Kathleen Walker and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Lucile will be brought back to her beloved West Virginia hills for Inurnment at Ridgelawn Memorial Park July 31, 2:00 p.m. The family will welcome friends at 3:00 p.m. at The Woman’s Club of Barboursville, 1472 Central Ave.

Andrew “Jack” Chittum
Andrew “Jack” Chittum, 79, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, after a long illness. He was born July 27, 1921, in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Robert and Ida May Childers Chittum. He was a retired employee of Houdaille Industries; a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II; a member of the VFW #9738, Guyandotte; a member of the Barboursville American Legion #177, where he was an officer and served on the board of trustees. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Geraldine Boley Chittum. He is survived by his wife, Reta Cart Chittum; one daughter, Renee Childers of Huntington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Joy Chittum of Barboursville, and Jack E. and Debbie Chittum of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepsons, Forest D. Fetty and Brian L. Fetty, both of Milton; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial services were conducted Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Barboursville American Legion #177, Box 83, Barboursville, WV.

Pamela Sue Lambert
Pamela Sue Lambert, of Salt Rock died Monday, July 16, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 20, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, by the Rev. David Cardwell, with graveside services in Highland Memory Gardens, Pecks Mill, W.Va. She was born January 30, 1964, in Logan, W.Va., a daughter of Jo Ann Damron Price of Logan and the late Robert Price. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Leslie Price and one brother, Michael Price. She was a member of Gloryway Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Charles Lambert; one son, Charles Lambert Jr. of Salt Rock; four stepchildren, Kimberly Orr of Logan, Steven Lambert of Jackson, Mich., Michael Lambert of Barboursville and April Martin of Winter Haven, Fla.; five sisters, Teresa Blankenship of Logan County, Libby Nichols of North Carolina, Bobbie Price of Charleston, W.Va., Angel Nelson of Logan and Rhonda Stutsman of Michigan; three brothers, Luther Price of Maryland, Gary Price of Chapmanville and Danny Price of Logan; and six stepgrandchildren.

Eva L. Ryalls
Eva L. Ryalls, age 78, of Palatka, FL, formerly of Milton, WV, passed away on January 15, 2001 in Florida. She was a loving Mother and homemaker and a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #45. Survivors include: son, Charles (Kathy) Ryalls, Jr., WA; daughters, Janet Ryalls-Miller, Gary, IN, Caroline (Fred) Kyle, Miller, IN; 1 brother, Jack Bell, Valparaiso, IN; 1 sister, Lottie M. Abbott of Valparaiso, IN; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, James and Connie Barker and husband Charles Ryalls, Sr.

Kathleen Eva Agnes Forth
Kathleen Eva Agnes Forth, 84, of Masontown, formerly of Milton, widow of James Forth, died Saturday, July 14, 2001 at the home of her niece. She owned and operated a drug store in Detroit and had worked in housekeeping. Survivors include one stepson, Donald Forth of Huntington; three brothers, Hubert LaMar of Morgantown, Robert LaMar of Vermillion, Ohio, and James D. LaMar of Waynesville, Mo.; three sisters, Nenie Spear of Morgantown, Louise Wiley of Kingwood and Jean Nelder of Warren, Ohio; and her niece and nephew with whom she lived, James R. and Cookie LaMar of Masontown. Funeral held at Lobb and Taylor Funeral Home, Kingwood; graveside service was held at Mount Zion Cemetery, Milton.

Elizabeth O. “Liz” Cremeans
Elizabeth O. “Liz” Cremeans, 64, of Barboursville passed away Sunday, July 15, 2001, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. She was born December 20, 1936, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Frederick “Slim” and Helen Landers Hager. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #95, Barboursville, White Shrine and Amaranth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Cremeans and one sister, Barbara Yokum. She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Cremeans-Cooper of Barboursville; one sister, Wynona Dailey of Maryland; and one granddaughter, Tamara Cooper of Barboursville.

Doy Edward Bruni
Doy Edward Bruni, 79, of Milton passed away Sunday, July 15, 2001 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral service were conducted Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born January 1, 1922 in Big Chimney, and a son of the late Sabatino and Maria Bruni. He was also preceded in his death by two brothers, Dominick and John Bruni; and two sisters, Enith Lyons and Rosie Prowse. He was a retired electrical foreman for Union Carbide, South Charleston. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of New Life Victory Church, Huntington. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sybil Marie Russe Bruni; five children, Claudia Ann Bruni of Milton, Theresa and Dave Connell of Milton, Edward Bruni of Huntington, Valerie and Rick Pekarek of Raleigh, NC, and Alex and Melanie Bruni of Salt Rock; one brother, Jack Bruni of Tornado, WV; two sisters, Mary Shaffer of Givens, WV and Tina Kiser of Staats Mills, WV; eight grandchildren, Melissa Dean, Leila Covert, Tim Cornell, Ryan, Allegra, and Matthew Pekarek, and Jonathan and Megan Bruni; one great-grandson, Jackson Armstrong.

Vena Ellen Fields Reece
Vena Ellen Fields Reece, 79, of Huntington, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2001. She was born in Fayette County, WV to William and Gladys Fields. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle K. Reece; brother Donald Fields; two sisters, Margaret Reynolds of KY. and Lucy Eller of Baltimore, MD. Survivors include one sister, Shirley Meadows of Milton, WV; three brothers, Everett “Chuck” Fields of Milton; Elmer of Ona and James “Junior” of Orrville, OH. Burial was in Neal Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Milton Funeral Home.

Pastor Wendell Cremeans
Pastor Wendell Cremeans, 70, of Salt Rock, W.Va., finished his work here on Earth Friday, July 20, 2001. He currently resides in Heaven. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 23, 2001, at the Souls Harbour Church, by Elder Chuck Mills and Elder Larry Stevens. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. He was born February 11, 1931, in Branchland, a son of the late Sanford and Ollie Gue Cremeans. He was a retired employee of C&O Railroad, owner and operator of Cremeans Equipment of Salt Rock and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army. He was ordained a minister in 1977 by Elder Chuck Mills. He founded the Souls Harbour Church in 1975 and had been the minister there since 1977.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Cremeans and Virna Peyton; special nieces, Darlene, Anita and Kaydee Adkins and an infant niece; and father-in-law, Clifford C. Adkins. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 46 years, Glenna Rose Adkins Cremeans; one daughter and son-in-law, Carletta Sue and Jack Jamison of Jackson, Miss.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Chester and Sandra Mays Sr. of Salt Rock, Andy and Carolyn Coburn of Dover, Tenn, Willis “Willie” and Faye Adkins of Huntington, and Jerry and Cathy Adkins of Chicago; three additional foster children, to whom he was also a “Dad,” Bill, Clifford and Kensey Elliot; and a special loving mother-in-law, Mrs. Clifford (Lillian) Nida Adkins of Salt Rock. Also surviving are one brother, six sisters and their spouses, Wondell, his twin brother, and Diana Cremeans of Culloden, Deloris Bailey of Barboursville, Oddeline Winters and Wilmerine Williamson, both of Huntington, Odessa Kinder of Mississippi, Brenda Davis of Kentucky and Arbra Lou White of Barboursville; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces and nephews. He also left behind a host of loving friends, including a special friend, Phil Key, and a special friend who assisted in the operation of Cremeans Equipment, Randy Berry; and two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Ancil “Bub” Adkins and Howard Adkins. Grandson served as pallbearers. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. “I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4-7.

Anna Virginia Morgan
Anna Virginia Morgan, 86, of Barboursville, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted at Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Henson Mortuary by the Rev. Tom Conrad. Burial followed in Woodmere Memorial Park She was born September 5,1914, in Chapmanville, WVa, daughter of the late William and Maude Butcher Pridemore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Donald Morgan in 1955; three sisters and three brothers. She was a homemaker, mother and Nan to many, and a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and George “Jerry” Adkins of Barboursville; three special children, Deborah Hudson of DuBois, Pa, Donna Finley of Chesapeake, Ohio, and David Hall of Huntington; one sister, Dorsie Hall of Barboursville; one sister-in-law, Margaret Sarah Edwards of Oak Hill, Ohio; two brothers, Ivan Pridemore of Chapmanville and Melvin Pridemore of Huntington; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Rodney Adkins of Barboursville; great-grandchildren Alexie and Jake Adkins of South Point, Ohio; loving nieces and nephews, Craig Hudson, Cathy Kuhn and Steward Deering and two beautiful great-great-nieces, Hanna Finley and Haleigh Kuhn. Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Nettie E. Ekers
Nettie E. Ekers, 89, formerly of Milton passed away to be with her Lord July 19, 2001 at Mariner Nursing Home in Inverness, Fl. She was born Jan. 05, 1912 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of the late Alex and Phoebe Smith Beaver. She was a homemaker and member of Faith Gospel Mission, and attended Guyan Creek Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband; Rev. John K. Ekers, one son; Floyd K. Ekers, one brother; Johnny Beaver, four sisters; Opal Bayes, Tressie Clark, Oma Williams, and Mary Carnes, one Grand-son, Michael Meadows, two sons-in-law; Lloyd Lewis, and John Hamper. Funeral Services were conducted Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at Heck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gilbert Smith and Rev. Don Reynolds officiating. Burial followed at Pete Meadows Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters; Rosa Lewis of Huntington, WV, Mary Hamper of Inverness, Fl, and Shirley (Donald) Meadows of Milton, one son with whom she made her home John R. Ekers of Inverness, Fl., one sister; Margaret Bishop of Saint Albans, WV, One daughter-in-law; Mary Ekers Sowards of Hurricane, WV.,13 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren, 18 Great-Great-Grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Alma E. Boice
Alma Elizabeth Absten Boice, 95, of Teays Valley Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Scott Ridge, Putnam County, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Putnam General Hospital following a long illness.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Boice, and son, James H. Boice.
Surviving: daughter, Pauline Boice of Buffalo; sister, Nannie Lovejoy of Hometown, duaghter-in-law, Juanita Boice of Eleanor, grandchildren, Kay Fisher of Midway, Debbie Martin of Buffalo, Cindy Jeffers of Arbuckle, and Jeff Boice of Poca River; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Service was held Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Woody Willard officiating. Burial was in Center Point Cemetery, Liberty.

Carolyn Sue Bailey
Carolyn Sue Lloyd Bailey, 57, of Poca died July 9, 2001 at home.
She was a lifelong resident of Poca, an employee of Benefit Assistance with three years’ service and a former employee of Union Boiler and American Viscose. She was a loving mother, a devoted daughter and her husband’s best friend. She enjoyed outdoor activities such as gardening and walking. She was an avid shopper. She was involved in charitable work for breast cancer awareness. She enjoyed the company of many friends and had a great love for all animals. Her sense of humor, kindness and compassion will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Burdette Lloyd, and her brother, Jack Lloyd.
Surviving: husband, John S. Bailey; mother, Jane Lloyd of Poca, daughters, Bridge Bailey and Jacqueline Bailey, both of Poca.
Service was held Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Delbert Hawley and Pastor Steve White officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
