Don Wilford McFann, ‘G.G.’
Don Wilford McFann, “G.G.” of Lesage, W.Va., beloved husband of the late Inez Marie McFann for 75 and one half years, rested at home Saturday, September 8, 2001. He was born May 21,1908, in the state of Kansas, a son of the late Wells A. and Artie Rowe McFann. In addition to his parents and his wife, Inez, who passed away August 25, 2001, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline McFann, Shirl Winters and Louella Blankenship; and two brothers, Clinton and Riggs McFann. Funeral service were conducted 2 pm Tuesday, September 11 2001, at Apostolic Life Cathedral, with Pastor Edwin S. Harper officiating. Burial in Greenbottom Memorial Park. G.G. was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He worked at INCO with 40 years of service. He loved farming and raised many years of tobacco crops and was one of the first breeders of Charolais cattle in this area. He was well-liked and he loved his neighbors. He loved his family dearly and was a member of Mount Union Baptist Church on Big Seven Mile Road. G.G. is survived by a daughter, Betty Barbour of Huntington; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Leona McFann of Lesage; two granddaughters and their spouses, Theresa and Patrick Messer of Huntington and Melody and Dean Morris of Arlington, Texas; three grandsons and their spouses, Rod and Teresa McFann, Rick and Alisa McFann and Jason and Lavonna McFann, all of Lesage; nine great-grandchildren, Brandie and Breyanna McFann, Joshua, Jakeb and Linzie McFann and Christopher McFann, all of Lesage, Chance Ray Messer of Huntington and Katey and Kristen Morris of Arlington, Texas; and a sister, Yvonne Hogsett of Barboursville.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of Huntington and special caregivers, Ruth Caldwell, Wanda Maynard, Patty Bias and his three grandsons and their spouses. A special thanks to Ponderosa on Route 60 for their concern and generosity. Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements. Gary Gene Lovejoy
Gary Gene Lovejoy, 61, of Ona, WVa., passed away Friday, September 7, 2001, at St Marys Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at 3 pm Sunday, September 9, 2001 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. Jerry Warren. Burial in Lincoln Memorial Park, Hamlin, W.Va. He was born December 17,1939, in Hamlin a son of the late Donald and Wanda Faye Plumley Lovejoy. He was an employee of Cooper Tire and Rubber, a member of the Hamlin Masonic Lodge #79, A.F.& A.M., and Mayo Sportsman Club. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Dawn Lovejoy. He is survived by his wife, Naomi Janette Vickers Lovejoy; one daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Travis Rice of Louisville, Ky; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary II and Kimberly Lovejoy of Barboursville, WVa.; one sister and brother-in-law, Delores and James Cain of Huntington; four grandchildren, Brennan and Taylin Lovejoy and Carly and Mason Rice; several nieces, nephews and family. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to. Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Albert “Ab” Bowen
Albert “Ab” Bowen, 83, of Huntington, passed away Friday. September 7, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral service were conducted at 1 p.m Monday, September 10, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Ray Vance. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. He was born September 2,1918, in Cabell County, a son of the late Irvin and Ina Black Bowen. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in WW II. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Angelo Bowen; two brothers, Glen and James Bowen; and three sisters, Grace Esque, Beulah McDonald and Mary Margaret Bowen. He is survived by one daughter, Gloria Jean Coy of Huntington; three sisters, Georgia Farris, Nora Ferrell and Shirley Neal, all of Huntington; four brothers, Lester Bowen and Irvin Bowen, both of Huntington, Donald Lee Bowen of Ona and Richard Bowen of Scotts, Mich; four grandchildren, Stephen “Red” Wolford, Brian Scarberry, Sarah Coy and Mary Coy; and four great-grandchildren, Steven Michael Wolford, Ashley Wolford, Brittany Scarberry and Paul Scarberry. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

May Smith
May Smith, 73, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Monday, September 3, 2001, in Kenova, W.Va. Funeral service were conducted Thursday, September 6, 2001 at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel Barboursville, W.Va, by the Rev. Calvin Perry. Burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery. She was born July 15, 1928, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Hance and Mary Ellen Adkins McCloud. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Baxter Jarrell and William Smith; and one daughter, Linda Kay Ward. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Mildred and Troy Adkins and Donna Jean Jarrell, all of Kenova; one brother, Frank McCloud of Shoals; five grandchildren, Troy L. Adkins, Christopher Allen Jarrell, Evelyn Mae Jarrell, Tamara Lynn Ward and Roger Dale Ward; and one great-grandson, John Russell Jarrell.

Mae L. Chapman
Mae L. Chapman, 102, of Milton died Tuesday, September 4, 2001 in Sunbridge for Putnam Nursing Home. Survivors include one nephew, Hugh Wallace of Milton. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 6, 2001 at Milton Funeral Home; burial in Neal Cemetery, Milton.

Betty M. Thompson
Betty M. Thompson, 67, of Salt Rock passed away August 31, 2001, in Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, September 2, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel Barboursville, by the Rev. Richard Black. Burial in Hatfield Cemetery. She was born October 15, 1933, in Barboursville, a daughter of the late Frances Clayton Ruley and Mary Lauretta McCallister Ruley. She attended Cyrus Creek Baptist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul David Ruley, and one grandson, Danny Lee Hager. She is survived by her husband, Leroy Thompson; three daughters, Donna Wood of Willow City, Texas, Sharon Hager of Luling, La., and Karen Wilmoth of Barboursville; two sons, David Thompson of Culloden and Joseph Lee Thompson of Wartsburg, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Frances Radcliff of Tennessee and Bonnie Martin of Huntington; four brothers, Earl Ruley of Anchorage, Alaska, John Ruley of Barboursville, Charles Ruley of Huntington and Vernon Ruley of Salt Rock; 13 grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. Nephews and great-nephews served as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, 500 NE Spanish River Blvd. Suite 14, Boca Raton FL 33431.

Lelia Cecelia “Lil” Ball Lunsford
Lelia Cecelia “Lil” Ball Lunsford, 88, of Milton, passed away Friday, August 31, 2001, at her daughter’s residence. Funeral service were conducted Monday, September 3, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Lawrence Dailey and Rev. Sam Morris officiating. Burial in Ball Cemetery, Milton. Lil was born July 7, 1913, in Milton a daughter of the late Isaac Munson and Louella Chapman Ball, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Woody Lunsford; and her son, Timothy Lunsford. She was a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Vinson Stewart of Milton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Penny Lunsford and Anthony “Tony” and Sharon Lunsford, all of Milton; seven grandchildren Tonya Lunsford, Terra Gough, LeAnne Lowe, Kendra Lake, Shawn Lunsford, Kariann Paugh and Justin Lunsford; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Lunsford, Dylan Lowe, Hayden Lowe, Kenza Gough and Tanner Paugh.

Naomi Virginia Fletcher
Naomi Virginia Fletcher, 80, of Milton went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 2, 2001 at her residence. Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Frazier’s Bottom, with the Rev. Herman Mays and Rev. Donald Reynolds officiating. Burial in Pinegrove Baptist Church Cemetery, Frazier’s Bottom. Naomi was born June 17, 1921 in Lawrence County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Otho Elva and Mary Elizabeth Carson Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer Sullivan Fletcher; and son, Ralph Fletcher. She was a homemaker and member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Ola Fletcher, Kathy Chapman both of Milton, Sue Hughes, of Ashton, WV, and Joyce Reynolds of Elm City, NC; Three sons, Gary Fletcher of Gastonia, NC, Jimmy Fletcher of Milton, WV, and Charles Fletcher of Barboursville, WV; Two sisters, Clara Simms of Gallipolis, Oh., and Lois Larckard of Cincinnati, Oh. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Recie A. Stover
Recie A. Tucker Stover, 93, of Red House died August 27, 2001, in SunBridge of Putnam following a long illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County, a homemaker and a member of Manila Chapel, Robertsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Stover.
Surviving: sister, Estella Bennett of Memphis, Tennessee; nieces, Audrey Spade of Memphis, Joann Barnett of Oregon, Leona Harris of Buffalo, Lola Baker of Pt. Pleasant, and Betty Jean Hammons of Cross Lanes; nephews, Leslie Tucker of Buffalo, Glenn Jividen of Nitro and Gerald Jividen of Buffalo.
Service was held Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Arles Covert and Mark Harris officiating. Burial was in Walker Chapel Cemetery, Robertsburg.

Sally R. Meadows
Sally R. Barnett Meadows, 84, of Eleanor died August 24, 2001, at Country Villa Care Home, Buffalo, after a long illness.
She retired from Putnam Aging and was a former employee of Buffalo Shopping Center and Buffalo Cannery. She attended Eleanor Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Meadows.
Surviving: daughter, Karen Kovalchik and husband, Andy, of Gahanna, Ohio; sons, Leroy and wife, Shirley, of Eleanor, Donald “Choc” and wife, Reva, of Eleanor, Dale and wife, Sue, of Winfield, Fred and wife, Janet, of Red House, Davie and wife, Peggy, of Red House, Ron and wife, Gabi, of Johnstown, Ohio, and Bruce and wife, Rosemary, of Miller Creek, North Carolina; sister, Loraine Stover of Kenna; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Monday, August 27, 2001, at Gatens FuneraL Home, Poca, with Andy Kovalchik officiating. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, Red House. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, 4510-C Pennsylvania Avenue, Charleston WV.

Floyd W. Dawson
Floyd Wallace Dawson, 96, of Hurricane died August 28, 2001, at Putnam General Hospital.
He was retired from the Ohio Department of Highways and a millwright.
Surviving: son, Wesley Dawson if Kimbolton, Ohio; daughters, Barbara Lynn Lynch of Waynesboro, Virginia and Shirley Casto of Hurricane; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, September 1, 2001, at Oakfield Baptist Church, Oakfield, Ohio, with the Rev. Raymond Lemity and Mr. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Oakfield Cemetery. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle L. Leach
Myrtle Louise Leach, 75, of Hurricane died August 28, 2001, in Thomas Memorial Hospital following complications from surgery.
She was born in Belle, West Virginia on October 23, 1925. She was owner of Mt. Vernon Realty Company, the Teays Valley School of Real Estate and Gold Key Properties before retiring in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sterling C. Gunnoe; mother, Bertha Quinn Higginbotham; husband, James Leach; sister, Violet Virginia Goff; and brother, John Higgonbitham.
Surviving: daughters, Sherri Leach McCracken of Garden City Beach, South Carolina, Marjorie Sue Leach Argabright of Frankford WV, Nancy Leach LeBolt of Hurricane, Patricial Hensley Massey of Red Key, Indiana, and Rutha Bostic Chestnut of Charleston; sisters, Helen Walz of Milton and Marjorie Litton of Hurricane; brother, Ray Higginbotham of Charleston; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Service was held Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. John Duffy officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

W. “Joe” Huffstutler
Robert W. “Joe” Huffstutler, 50, of Lesage, husband of Donna Ash Huffstutler, died Thursday, August 30, 2001 in St. Mary's Hospital. Also surviving are his mother, Sarah Collins Huffstutler of St. Louis; two sons, James “Eddie” Lewis of Huntington and Donald Lewis of Kissimmee, Fla.; one sister, Kathy Brayton of St. Louis; and three brothers, Richard Huffstutler of St. Louis, Roger Huffstutler of Idaho and Joseph Huffstutler of Huntington. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 1, 2001 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington; burial in Herrenkohl Cemetery, Lesage. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, P.O. James David Moore
James David Moore, 79, of Huntington, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 24, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at Henson Mortuary, by Dr. Terrell Bradley. Entombment in White Chapel Mausoleum. James was born September 4, 1921, in Huntington, son of the late James V. and Alice Stevens Moore. He was a 1939 graduate of Huntington High School, a retired switchman for C&P Telephone, a retired maintenance supervisor at Holiday Inn Gateway and a member of Highlawn Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Garnet O'Brian, Kathleen Estep and Margaret Heron; and one grandson, Jon Kevin Bryant on January 23, 2001. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Keister Moore; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Cagle Curtis of Huntington and Suzanne L. and Jon R. Bryant of Houston, Texas; one sister-in-law and her spouse, Margery and Paul Haas and their three children; four grandchildren, Charles G. “Chip” and wife Teena Watkeys, James David Watkeys and fiancee Michelle Taylor, Jeremy Daniel Bryant and friend Jennifer Harper, and Jeffrey Scott and wife Shannon Bryant; three great-grandchildren, Charles Alexander, Joshua Andrew and Anne Nichole Watkeys; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

James Kentner Hatchett Jr.
James Kentner Hatchett Jr., 60, of Barboursville, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, at the Barboursville Veterans Home. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Leo Burrell. Burial in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, Ky. He was born August 6, 1941, in Huntington, a son of the late James Kentner and Laura Wallace Hatchett. He was a retired employee of Ashland Oil and a former employee of Moores Hardware Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the American Legion #177 Barboursville, VFW Post 9738 Guyandotte, the DAV, the Marine Corps League of Huntington and Faith United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by one cousin, Ann S. Rice. He is survived by cousins William P. and Sherry Stephenson of Huntington, Phililp E. and Jean S. Modlin of Chesapeake, Ohio, Edwin D. Rice of Ashland, Marjorie Gates, Alma Wallace, Lewis Edgar Gates of Brookeville, Ohio; and a dear friend Lorilea Roten of Huntington. Members of the American Legion #177, Barboursville served as honorary pallbearers.
