Hubert “Junior” Blake
Hubert “Junior” Blake, 81, of Milton, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Keith Leap officiating. Junior was born April 8, 1920, in Milton, W.Va, a son of the late Hubert Sr. and Nora Anderson Blake. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Arnet Blake, Curtis Dare Blake, Connie Blake, Blain Blake, Opal Blake, Marie Wise, Geneva Blake and Faye Shamlin. He was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church. He was a glass blower for Blenko Glass, Milton, and retired as a glass blower from Union Carbide, South Charleston. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and served as a member of the American Legion Post 139, Milton; Disabled American Veterans; and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9796, Milton. He was a volunteer Little League umpire. He was also a part-time farmer, known best for his generosity and ability to raise sweet corn. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Long Blake; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Forrest Allen of South Charleston; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sharon Blake of Clemmons, N.C., and Jerry and Judy Blake of Fayetteville, N.C.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kermit and Sylvia Blake and Jim and Mildred Blake, all of Milton; two grandsons and their fiancÈs, J.C. Warnick and Robin Jenks and Chad Warnick and Cassie Ogle; three granddaughters, Marci and Mike Bennett (and anticipated great-grandchild), Paige and Brandon Summey and Susan Blake; three step-grandchildren, Jonathan and Patrick Allen and Missey and Mike Eskew; two step-great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Tristan Eskew; host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Frances Jean Frye Edmonds
Frances Jean Frye Edmonds, 53, of Huntington, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 15, 2001, after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. John Terry. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born July 17, 1948, in West Hamlin, a daughter of the late Willard Frye and Pauline Stamper Frye Stevens. She was a member of Eastern Gates United Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Lee Andra Mills and her husband Randy of Wayne; three sons, James L. Edmonds Jr. of Barboursville, Tony A. Edmonds and his wife Gaye of Huntington and Michael N. Edmonds and his wife Rene of Annapolis, Md.; nine grandchildren, Autumn, Jamie, Aubrey, Regan Michael, Chandler, Sarah, Darienne and Cadence Edmonds and Joseph Mills; four brothers, Jim Frye, Kevin Stevens, Tim Stevens and Darrell Stevens, all of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Alice Faye Bella of Cleveland and Aileen Blake of Huntington.

James Lloyd Adkins
James Lloyd Adkins, 24, of Huntington, passed away Monday, December 17, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 20, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Steve Smith. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born March 6, 1977, in Huntington, a son of Donald Eugene Adkins Sr. and Bonnie L. Adkins of Huntington. He was a police officer for the Village of Barboursville. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a member of the West Virginia Army National Guard and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #122 Barboursville, and a graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy. Survivors include his wife, Kelli Bartram Adkins; one daughter, Abbigail Adkins; one sister, Anita Adkins of Burlington, Ohio; one brother, Donald E. Adkins Jr. of Point Pleasant, W.Va.; one stepsister, Shawnee Jefferys of Chesapeake, Ohio; three stepbrothers, Larry Edward Blankenship of Getaway, Ohio, Lundy William Blankenship of Huntington and Christopher Daniel Blankenship of Minnesota; paternal grandparents, Lloyd O. and Norma L. Adkins of Lesage; a sister-in-law, Shelli Bartram of Chesapeake; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thurman and Jean Bartram of Chesapeake; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Wendell Adkins.

Ray E. Johnson Sr.
Ray E. Johnson Sr., 67, of Hurricane died December 14, 2001, in Putnam General Hospital.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hurricane, and was a retired pharmacist and former owner of Milton Drug Store. He was a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and a veteran of the United States Navy.
Surviving: daughters, Tina Martin of Hurricane and Charity Johnson of Butler, Pennsylvania; sons, Ray E. Jr. of Dunbar, Mark of Butler, Robert of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Sam L. of Poca; brothers, Bill of California, Bob of Martinsburg, Dale and Gale, both of Milton.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Mr. Jim McGehee officiating.

Wanda J. Rooper
Wanda J. Rooper, 77, of Hurricane died December 16, 2001, at home after a long illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Putnam Countu, a former employee of Linville Department Store in Hurricane, and a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Q.S. Rooper Sr.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Quentin and Ethel Rooper of Hurricane; granddaughter and her husband, Chris and Lafe Roberts of Barboursville; grandson and his wife, Charles and Monika Sterling of South Charleston; great-grandchildren, Britney Roberts, Jeanie Roberts, Lafe Roberts II, and Nicholas Charles Sterling; sisters, Wilma Erwin of Hurricane and Connie White of Scott Depot.
Service was held Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Minister David Thomas officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Eunie L. Elliott
Eunie L. King Elliott, 79, of Buffalo died December 18, 2001, at Country Villa Care, Buffalo, following a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a Christian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Maude Nicholas King, and her husband, Kenneth R. Elliott.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Doris M. and Leslie Tucker of Buffalo; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Mary Ann Elliott of Buffalo; brother and sister-in-law, James and Anna Craig King of Buffalo; grandchildren, Glenda Hill, Rebecca Priddy and Zane Elliott, all of Buffalo; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Thursday, December 20, 2001, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Mike Tucker and the Rev. Pete Cobb officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

Manford Alvaro Blessing, 95, of Soctt Depot, formerly of Pt. Pleasant, died December 18, 2001.
Service was held Sunday, December 23, 2001, at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Pt. Pleasant.

Michael C. Bucklew
Michael C. Bucklew, 59, of Hurricane died December 18, 2001, at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.
He was a member of Winfield Church of Christ, a disabled chemical operator from Avtex Fibers, Nitro, a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and a 33-year resident of Hurricane, formerly of Nitro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton O. and Pearl Mae Bucklew, brother, James O. Bucklew Sr., and son, James O. Bucklew Jr.
Surviving: wife, Jennette E. McNeal Bucklew; daughter, Tamara Bucklew Hall of Teays Valley; sons, Richard D. Bucklew of Red House and Timothy Wayne Bucklew of Rock, WV; sister, Mildred M. Stephens of Titusville, Florida; seven grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, December 21, 2001, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Minister George Erwin officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Elizabeth Toney
Elizabeth Orr Toney, 83, of Hurricane died December 18, 2001, after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Minerva Orr, and her husband of 50 years, Alfred Toney Sr.
She was a graduate of Richwood High School, Centre College of Kentucky and a member of the Eastern Star of Montgomery. She was a teacher for over 30 years in West Virginia and Ohio. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Hurricane.
After retirement, she and Alfred lived in Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina for nearly 20 years. After his death, she returned to West Virginia to be near her children.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Judy Toney of Cross Lanes; daughter, Rebecca Parsons of Conyers, Georgia; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Bill Barton of Little Hocking, Ohio, Dorothy and Dave Holmes of Culloden, and Mae and Harold Deel of Asheville, North Carolina; sister, Virginia Heaster of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, December 21, 2001, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Robert Laukoter. Burial at a later date will be held in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Mirel Vannatter
Mirel Vannatter, 86, of Huntington passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 21, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel Barboursville, by the Rev. William Hughes Jr. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. He was born November 1, 1915, in Salt Rock, a son of the late Christopher Columbus and Mary Dean Vannatter. He was a retired employee of Pepsi Cola, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Blair Vannatter; daughters and one son-in-law, Edith and Ben Darlington of Hamlin, Goldie Hensley of West Hamlin and Eula Isaacs of Barboursville; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Tammy Vannatter of Barboursville, Davy and Sherry Vannatter of Florida Thomas and Billie Jean Pesimer of Salt Rock, John Pesimer of Shawnee, Ohio, Douglas Pesimer of Hurricane and David and Patty Pesimer, with whom he made his home the last three years; two sisters, Marie Hatfield of Salt Rock ,and Imogene Rayburn of Hamlin; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Hospice of Huntington. Military graveside rites were conducted by VFW Post #1064, Huntington.

Mrs. Pearl E. Midkiff
Mrs. Pearl E. Midkiff, 82, of Ona, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2001, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born in Wayne County, W.Va., October 11, 1919, the daughter of the late Frank and Grace Newman Osborn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Dreama Midkiff and Vickie Ann Midkiff, one son, William Mark Midkiff, one brother, Haskell Osborn and a sister, Aileen Slack. She is survived by her husband Paul Midkiff; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda and Raymond Weaver of Ona, Milena and Thomas Moon of Milton, Firelei Parks and Alan Danforth of Fredericksburg, Va., and Marsha Midkiff of Huntington; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Max and Tammy Midkiff of Scott Depot and Richard Dale Midkiff of Milton; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth and Don Taylor of Proctorville, Lillian Dukeman and Ima Jennings, both of Columbus; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Barbara Osborn of Hawaii. Perry G. Linthicum
Perry G. Linthicum, 83, of Barboursville, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2001, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 15, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Monty Brown. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born June 17, 1918, in Hatfield, W.Va., a son of the late George Washington and Beulah Lee Perdue Linthicum. He was a retired employee of CSX Transportation a member of the First United Methodist Church, Barboursville, and a member of Minerva Lodge #13, A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Billie Woods Linthicum; one daughter and son-in-law, Beryl L. and Jim Myers of Huntington, and their children, Bruce and his wife Barbara, Steve and his wife Cheryle and their son Brandon Myers, and Beverly May and her husband Kent; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Joan Linthicum of Raleigh, N.C., and their children, William and Katie Beth.

G. Stephen Fadlevich
G. Stephen Fadlevich, 52, of Scott Depot, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Minister Christopher Gallagher officiating. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Barboursville. He was born Oct. 21, 1949, in Logan W.Va, a son of Margaret Kish Fadlevich of Ona and the late Joseph Fadlevich Sr. He was also preceded in death by one son, Stephen Brandon Fadlevich; and his grandparents. He was president of Consolidated Cable and Consolidated Mine Service. He was a member of the Church of Christ Scott Depot. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Maynard Fadlevich; his mother, Margaret Fadlevich of Ona; his mother-in-law, Sylvia Maynard; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Michael and Rebecca Fadlevich of Beckley; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa Barbour of Hurricane and Vivian “Missy” and David Knight of Longview, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Jodi Fadlevich of Nitro; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Edward Kittinger of Ona; seven grandchildren, Chase, Alyssa, Joshua, Ashley, Nicholas, Austin and Brandon; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

Laura DiPier
Laura DiPier Forman, 39, of Salt Rock, W.Va., formerly of Schenectady, N.Y, died suddenly on Dec. 10, 2001, in front of the Huntington District Headquarters of the Army Corps of Engineers after speaking in protest of the Corps’ policy on permitting valley fills at mountaintop removal sites. Laura was an environmental activist for the Ohio Valley Coalition (OVEC), a position she was devoted to for the past seven years. Laura was also a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend. Laura is predeceased by her grandparents, Ruby and Don Gann. Laura is survived by her husband, Michael Forman; her son, Donald Roy Forman, 5; her parents, Ralph “Jack” and Geneva DiPier of Schenectady, N.Y.; her sisters, Gayle Manion of Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Lynn DiPier of Fairbanks, Ala.; her brother, Eric DiPier of Mesa, Ariz.; several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and a nephew; and many, many friends. Laura will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Her son, Donald, would like Laura to know that he wishes his Mommy could be here. “The flame that burns the brightest burns the shortest”. Services were Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Beech Fork State Park, south of Huntington, W.Va. Rush F. McCallister
rush F. McCallister, 81, of Salt Rock, W.Va., passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday Dec. 13, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Manford “Cass” Hutchinson. Burial will in Enon Cemetery. He was born March 3, 1920, in Cabell County, a son of the late Martin Bib and Ida Ma Reynolds McCallister. He was retired from Houdaille Industries and was U.S. Army veteran who served World War II. He was also precede in death by his wife, Helen Margaret Hutchinson McCallister; one son Charles Brent McCallister; and one grandson, Bryce McCallister. He is survived by three daughters, Connie McCallister of Salt Rock, Danita Edwards and her husband, Dana, Huntington and Jan McCallister of Huntington; two grandchildren, Jenna and Aaron Edwards; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his nephew, Roger McCallister and Hospice of Lincoln County for their help and care.

Thelma Nida
Thelma Nida, 75, of Ona W.Va., entered into eternal life to with her Lord on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Thelma was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Lincoln County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Fisher and Mandy Albright Dyer. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elma Dyer and Melissa Adkins; and two brothers, Freddie and Elbert Dyer. She was a member of Cox Landing United Methodist Church, whose members served as pallbearers. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Homer R. Nida; two daughters, Brenda Joyce Stevenson and Deborah Lynn Nida, both of Barboursville; two granddaughters, Jamie Dawn Stevenson and Kristi Lea Stevenson, also of Barboursville; a special niece, Dorothy Dyer of Branchland; other nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and church family. Also surviving is a very special companion at home, “Buttons.” Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her church Youth Group in her memory.

B. Forest Bledsoe
B. Forest Bledsoe, 87, of Milton, W.Va., widower of Isabell Amick Bledsoe, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. He was a retired finisher for Blenko Glass Factory and the son of the late Thomas Hendrick and Maude Sidebottom Bledsoe. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Velva Martin and Eva Neumeyer; and one brother, Fred Bledsoe. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in White Chapel Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Davie Curry officiating. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin Jr. and Sara Bledsoe of Ona, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Ashlee Bledsoe of Ona; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Heck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harrison Webb
Harrison Webb, 85, of Huntington, W.Va, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 in Veterans Memorial Hospital, Chillicothe, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Sunday. Dec. 9, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Forest Memorial Park Milton. He was born July 31, 1916, in Cabell County, W.Va, a son of the late Nathan and Bertha McComas Webb. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Emmett and Amos Webb; and one sister, Mabel Shaffer. He was a retired crane operator for the former H.K. Porter. He was a US. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the V.F.W. Post 9738, Guyandotte. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Effie Glenn Webb, one daughter, Evonna Joan Meadows of Huntington; two sons, Gary Lee and Emeritus Webb, both of Huntington; one brother, Denver Webb; two sisters, Barbara Mount and Janice Darst, both of Milton; one very special granddaughter, Andrea Thomas of Huntington; and one step-granddaughter, Casey Meadows of Hurricane. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Harry Martin Johnson
Harry Martin Johnson, 75, of Milton, husband of Betty Johnson died Tuesday, December 4, 2001 in Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton. He was a chemist for the West Virginia State Health Department. Also surviving are two sons, Larry Johnson and David Johnson; two daughters, Sue Hilliard and Joyce Johnson; and two stepsons, Philip Hogg and Lee Hogg. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

John Wayne Adkins
John Wayne Adkins, 45, of Salt Rock died Nov. 19 at home. He was a self-employed bricklayer. Survivors include his mother, Kathryn Sullivan Adkins of Barboursville; and two sons, John Wayne Adkins Jr. of Huntington and Spc. Shannon Lee Adkins of Hawaii. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 6, 2001 at Rollins Funeral Home, Kenova; burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kenova.

Hunter Nelson Holton
Hunter Nelson Holton, infant son of Richie and Shanna Tassen Holton of Salt Rock, passed away Monday, December 3, 2001. Graveside services were conducted Friday, December 7, 2001, at Baylous Cemetery by Pastor Rick Glass. Survivors include maternal grandparents, Bobby and Ella Tassen of Huntington; and paternal grandparents, Harlan and Linda Holton of Salt Rock. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Wilford T. Garrett
Wilford T. Garrett, 79, of Hurricane died November 26, 2001.
He was a member of Culloden Baptist Church, a lifelong resident of Putnam County and was retired from Union Carbide with 42 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; parents, Eustace J. and Mary Pate Garrett; brothers, Quinton and Milford Garrett; and sister, Elezine Martin.
Graveside service was held Thursday, November 29, 2001, at Valley View Memorial Park Mausoleum, Hurricane, with Mr. Jim McGehee officiating. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the charity or church of your choice.

Allen F. LaShier Sr.
Allen F. LaShier Sr., 60, of Hurricane died November 26, 2001, in CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was a member of Cross Lanes Baptist Church, and an employee of Standard Coffee.
Surviving: wife, Rachel LaShier; daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle A. and David Grefrath of Pavilion, New York, and Renee L. and David Gandee of Deland, Florida; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. and Vera LaShier of Seattle, Washington, James R. LaShier of Panama City, Florida, Pierre L. and Jocelynn LaShier of Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, and Allen F. LaShier Jr. of Merritt Island, Florida; brother, Andrew C. LaShier of the Dominican Republic; grandchildren, Thomas Grefrath, Michael Grefrath, Cameron Gandee, Gavin Gandee, James LaShier Jr., Brett LaShier, Matthew LaShier, Olivia LaShier, Aaron LaShier, Amari LaShier, and Brittany LaShier.
Service was held Thursday, November 29, 2001, at Cross Lanes Baptist Church with Dr. Kent Spann and the Rev. Paul Pyle officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Gary E. McCoy Sr., 55, of Liberty died November 26, 2001.
He was a Christian and attended Lett Creek Community Church. He was scoutmaster of Troop 2000, Red House.
Surviving: wife, Ruth Harper McCoy; sons, Gary E. McCoy Jr. and Matthew McCoy, both of Liberty; daughter, Tammy McCoy of Cross Lanes; stepson, Frank Adkins of St. Albans; mother, Winifred McCoy of Liberty; brother, John E. McCoy Jr. of Poca; three grandchildren;three stepgrandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, November 29, 2001, at Lee Creek Community Church with Paul Arthur and Berto Harrison officiating. Burial was in Brown Cemetery, Crooked Ridge, Liberty. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Ollie Pate Wood
Ollie Pate Wood, 85, of Hurricane died November 26, 2001, at Teays manor Care Facility, Hurricane.
Born June 2, 1916 in Hurricane, she was the daughter of the late W.R. “Billy” and Mollie Pate.
She was a member of Pleasant View Church of God, Hurricane.
Surviving: husband, Jessie; sons, David and Kermit Wood of Hurricane; daughters, Judy Mercer of Hurricane, Verna Mynes Bielicki of Falling Waters, Betty Thompson of Smithsburg, Maryland; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, November 29, 2001, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Mr. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery, Hurricane. The family requests donations to Teays Manor Care Facility, PO Box 1045, Hurricane WV 25526.

Thomas L. Moore
Thomas L. Moore, 48, of Sandyville, formerly of Buffalo and Julian, died November 29, 2001, while deer hunting.
Tom was an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church - West Virginia Annual Conference, and served Comet, Independence and Sandyville churches for the past three years. He previously served Otter Branch and Leon United Methodist churches.
As a master sergeant, he served his state as food service advisor for the West Virginia National Guard, 111th Engineering Group, St. Albans. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War while stationed in Ankara, Turkey.
He was a graduate of Scott High School, Madison. He holds a Regents BA degree from Marshall University and an M. Div. degree awarded by United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, Ravenswood; the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 441, Sandyville; Optimist Club, Sandyville; Enlisted National Guard Association; School Improvement Council, Sandyville; and PTO, Sandyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Moore and Reba Walker Moore; and a brother, Benjamin.
Surviving: wife, Eugenia Whittington Moore; son, Thomas; daughter, Heather; sisters, Elizabeth Napier of Midway, Emma Dolin of Julian and Linda Lacy; brothers, Kenneth of Fort Myers, Florida, John of Mastic Beach, New York, Arthur of Eleanor, Darrell of Buffalo, Jimmy of Midway and Jerry of Eleanor; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Monday, December 3, 2001, at Sandyville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Miller and the Rev. Samuel Cale III officiating. Burial was in Whittington Family Cemetery, Buffalo. Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, was in charge of arrangements.

Jo Ann Ball
Jo Ann Ball, 70, of St. Albans, formerly of Scott Depot, died December 1, 2001, at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was a member of Scott Depot Christ Fellowship, Winfield Lions Club and the Golden Oldies. She was a retired secretary for Putnam County Schools.
Surviving: husband, Ursel Genial Ball; daughters, Brenda Black of Fraziers Bottom and Beverly Hembree of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Ursela Luanne Runyon, Malisa Lindeman and Scott Hembree; great-grandchildren, Tori Elizabeth Lindeman and Stephen Gabriel Runyon.
Service was held Tuesday, December 4, 2001, at Scott Depot Christ Fellowship with Pastor Rodney Taylor officiating. Burial was in Black Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

David Ray Larck
David Ray Larck, 76, of Scott Depot died December 1, 2001, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was a retired truck driver for the Teamsters Local 175, Charleston. He was a member of Winfield Community Church, a United States Army veteran of World War II, and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances L. Larck, and son, Dan Larck.
Surviving: son, Donald R. Larck of Scott Depot; sister, Frances Thaxton of Hurricane; brothers, Curtis Larck of Cross Lanes, Alvin Larck of St. Albans, and Hobe Larck of Montgomery; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
Service was held Tuesday, December 4, 2001, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Mike Rader and the Rev. Keith Hudson officiating. Burial was in the Smith Cemetery, Scott Depot. The family suggest memorial donations to Smith Cemetery, c/o Donald R. Larck, Box 335 Scary Road, Scott Depot WV 25560.

Sandra Mae Vititoe Scarberry
Loving wife, mother and grandmother, Sandra Mae Vititoe Scarberry, 55, of Milton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 29, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, December 2, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Winford Curry officiating. Burial in Ball Family Cemetery, Milton. Sandra was born April 22, 1946, in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Rev. Oliver Richard “Pete” and Leona F. Ball Vititoe. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle Richard and Vinson Vititoe; and one sister, Alberta Vititoe. She is survived by her husband, Roger Lee Scarberry; two daughters, Stephanie Foster of Kitts Hill, Ohio, and Elizabeth “Libby” and Philip Mills of Milton; two sons, Rusty Lee and Vickie Scarberry of Huntington and Chad Richard Scarberry of Milton; one brother, the Rev. Verlin and Debbie Vititoe of Cumberland Gap, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Joe and Codi Foster, Kristina and Drew Mills and Cameron and Kyle Scarberry; three very special friends, Miss Helen, Miss Mary and Dwane Foster; and a host of family and friends. Pallbearers were Joe and Codi Foster, Philip Mills, Tracy Woodard, Jonathan Chastain, Barney Burcham, Drew Mills and Dwane Foster. Two grandsons served as honorary pallbearers, Cameron and Kyle Scarberry.

Evelyn J. Hersman
Evelyn J. Hersman, 88, most recently of Milton and Barboursville departed this life November 30, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington. She was born June 9, 1913, in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Everett and Pearl (Smith) Kerby. She was a former resident of Spencer and Millwood, a homemaker and member of Cottageville United Methodist Church. Surviving are daughters, Delores J. (Fred) Donohoe of Milton and Peggy A. (John) Crowder of Barboursville; brothers, Hubert Kerby and Warren “Bud” Kerby, both of Calhoun County; sisters, Velma Prine of Ripley, Mabel Treadway of Buchanan Dam, Texas, Tessie Cluts of Orlando, Fla., and Fostine K Barker of Florida; sister-in-law, Iloe Ingram of Charleston; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Hugh Hersman. Services were conducted Tuesday, December 4, 2001, at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood, W.Va., with Pastor Michael Dean officiating. Burial in Cottageville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Arnold Johnson
Arnold Johnson, 86, of Huntington, WV, died November 29, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Minister David Gladwell conducted the funeral on Monday, December 3, 2001, at Henson Mortuary. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Arnold was born June 5, 1915, in East Lynn, W.Va, son of the late Harvey and Minnie Mills Johnson. He was a machinist with Cincinnati Milacron, a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII, and a member of Barboursville Church of Christ. Five brothers and one sister also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Eloise McComas Johnson; one son, Charles E. Johnson of Santa Clara, Calif.; one sister, Hazel Parsons of Huntington; two grandchildren, Debra Francis of Brentwood, Calif., and Rebecca Kadlec of Chandler, Ariz., and three great-grandchildren, Kevin and Francis, both of Brentwood, and Brett Kadlec of Chandler.

Patricia Ann Arritt
Patricia Ann Arritt, 59, of Huntington died Tuesday, November 27, 2001, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 30, 2001, at Henson Mortuary with Minister Gary Smith officiating. Burial in Orchard Hills Memory Garden, Yawkey, W.Va. Mrs. Arritt was born September 22, 1942, in Madison W.Va., daughter of James Wilson Antill and Mary Francis McClure Antill of Alkol, W.Va. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Church of God, Portsmouth, Ohio. Survivors include her husband, Michael Arritt; one son and daughter-in-law, Jon Michael and Leisa Arritt of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Teresa and Craig Chafin of Atlanta, Ga., Donna and Tom Toler of Wayne, W.Va., and Mona Arritt of Huntington; one sister, Loretta Whitten of Alkol, W.Va.; two brothers, Timmy Antill of Yawkey, W.Va., and David Antill of Millwood, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren Brittany Toler, Sarah Toler, Tom Toler, Brooke Chafin, Tyler Chafin, Jon Michael Arritt III and Trevor Arritt.

Michael D. “Mike” Turner
Michael D. “Mike” Turner, 45, of Ona, passed away at his home and went to be with the Lord Monday, November 26, 2001. He was born April 17, 1956, in Holden, WV. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Newsome Turner, and is survived by his wife, Lynda, daughter, Christina, son, Paul, all of Ona; his father, J. Paul Turner (Mary Jean) of Delbarton, W.Va.; one sister, Paula Kay Maynard (Greg) of Delbarton; one brother, Alan Turner (Renee) of Franklin, Tenn.; one niece, Holly Maynard; three nephews, Daniel, Nathan,
and Jacob Turner. He was a graduate of Lenore High School, Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, Marshall University, Ohio University, and West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. He was a chemical engineer employed by StonCor, where he was a hard worker, evidenced by receiving many honors such as the Rookie of the Year, Top Salesman, and Best Overall Business awards. He also was a proud member of the Cabell Midland Band Boosters, where he spent many hours serving as a “Propmaster,” carrying and setting up instruments and props for the band. Mike attended the Huntington First Church of the Nazarene, where he was a member, and was loved and appreciated by all his church family. Mike, a devoted father, husband, brother, and son, will be remembered for a wonderful sense of humor, his giving spirit, the energy and vitality that he put into everything he did, and his love for all the people in his 1ife. He touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be missed but certainly not forgotten. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, November 29, at Huntington First Church of the Nazarene by Rev. Robert Weaver. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Lewis Priode, Jennings Copley, Mike Skurka, Larry Grzyb, Tim Forth, and Jerry Smalley. Honorary pallbearers are Dallas Moore, Carroll Templeton, Steve Saunders, Willis Bunn, and Rev. Marina B. “Peggy” Runyon
Mrs. Marina B. “Peggy” Runyon, 81, of Huntington, W.Va, died Sunday, November 25, 2001, in Mariner Health of Huntington. Funeral service were conducted Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Peggy was born February 20, 1920, in Hurricane, W.Va., a daughter of the late John Edgar and Lula Ellen Turner Chapman. She was a retired cook from the Radisson Hotel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman G. “Tom” Runyon; three sisters, Zelpha Crouch, Leona Neymier and Arzonia Leadman; three brothers, Joseph, John and Clinton Chapman; a son, Danny Chapman; and a granddaughter, Beth Turley. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Michael Frazier of Huntington; five sons, Michael, Rick and Tommy Runyon, all of Huntington, Steve Runyon and his wife Sandy of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Larry Chapman and his wife Marilyn of Culloden, W.Va.; two sisters, Freda Gibson of Hurricane and Reba Forth of Milton; one brother, Woodrow Chapman of Milton; four grandchildren, Leesa, Misty, Chris and Darlene; 12 great-grandchildren, Cody, Morgan, Kayla, Dylan Chrissa,. Brandon, Quenton, Lorie, Leslie, Allison, Andrew and Danielle.

Loretta Jean Chambers Chaffin
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, LORETTA JEAN CHAMBERS CHAFFIN, 61, of Pinellas Park, Fla., passed away Monday, November 26, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, W.Va. Memorial service were conducted Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Loretta was born December 17, 1939, in Milton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Raymond Basil and Neva G. Harshbarger Chambers. She was a beautician at Salon Elegante in Gulf Port, Fla., for 30 years. She dedicated her life to raising her four children. She is survived by three daughters and one son, Dawn Chaffin of St. Petersburg, Fla., Delores and Mark Cook of Jacksonville, Fla., Diana Vazquez of St. Petersburg, Fla., and David and Audrey Chaffin of Kenneth City, Fla.; three brothers, Larry, Julian and Jack Chambers; two sisters, Charlotte Neumeyer and Mary Lou O’Neill; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer and Heather Cryoskie, Ashleigh and Aaron Luke Cook, Joshua Vazquez, and Olivia and Jared Chaffin; one great-grandson, Anthony Nieves; and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will also be held in Florida at a later date.
