James Edgar Kay Jr., 58, of Scott Depot died suddenly Wednesday, January 16, 2002.
He was employed as a chief sanitarian and training officer for West Virginia Department of Health. He graduated from Wezt Virginia State College and sttended First Church United Methodist, Dunbar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Knapp, MD, and parents, James Sr. and Lorena “Renie” Kay.
Surviving: loving friend, Judy Tuckwiller of Kanawha City; brother, John E. Kay, and his wife, Linda, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; nephews, Jason Kay of Boulder, Colorado and Justin Kay of West Palm Beach, Flridia; niece , Johnna Kay of Reynoldsburg; aunt, Florence Green and her husband David of Dunbar; uncle, Collett Taylor of Dunbar.

Eva Marie Johnson Plybon
Eva Marie Johnson Plybon, 83, of Milton passed away Friday, January 18, 2002. She was the daughter of the late James Harvey and Mary Lee Damron Boyd. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Matt Johnson, second husband, Paul McCorkle; two Daughters, Peggy Joan Johnson and Brenda Kay Johnson Potter, three brothers and five sisters. She was retired from Sylvania Electric and Sears Roebuck. Graveside services were held Monday, January 21, 2002 in Highland Cemetery, Huntington with the Rev. Charley Spears officiating. She is survived by her husband, Walter Plybon; one daughter, Donna Lee Johnson Kelly; One sister, Agnes May; Six Grandchildren, Wesley Curry, Matthew Johnson, Wade Curry, Sheila Potter Workman, Donna Potter and Katherine Kelly Chapman; Ten Great-Grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Gertrude M. Bryant
Gertrude M. Bryant, 88, of Culloden, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 17, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 20, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home, by the Rev. Jim Franklin. Graveside services were conducted at the Tom Lilly Cemetery, Ghent, W.Va. She was born August 24, 1913, in Eccles, W.Va, a daughter of the late Charles and Etta McMillion Wiley. She was a member of Moraine Heights Baptist Church, Dayton Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley A. Bryant; two sons, Kenneth Bryant and Donnie Bryant; two sisters, Garnet Cook and Golden Riddle; and two brothers, James Wiley and John Wiley. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Arthur of Culloden; one son, Charles E. Bryant and his wife Judy of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren Denise Bellomy, Sherri Cary, John Arthur, Susan Meinert, Bryan Brauns and Nicole Truitt; and nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kelsey and Hailey Bellomy, Cody and Emily Cary, Rachel and Emma Brauns and Reid and Natalie Meinert.

Bessie Irene Bailey, 68, of Huntington went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 19, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the daughter of the late George Sr. and Alfie Evelyn Stowasser Spurlock. She was a homemaker and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Faye Bailey and Eleanor Merritt; and one brother, Henry Franklin Spurlock. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Max Spurlock officiating. Burial in Union Ridge Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth Richmond Turman
Mary Elizabeth Richmond Turman, 79, of Barboursville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 13, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 16, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Monty Brown. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born on December 7, 1922, a daughter of the late Maurice and Juliet Richmond. She was an active member of the Barboursville First United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir for many years. She found great joy in taking care of her family. One could say she never met a stranger. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Turman; three children and their spouses, Paul and Karen Turman, Donna and Richard Jefferson and Waymond and Peggy Turman all of Barboursville; six grandchildren, Paul Turman II, Thomas Turman, Teresa Blake, Angela Ronk, Alison Mullins and Kellie McNeely; and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Barboursville First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. The family would like to express our special thanks to her caregivers, Diana Ellis and Nita Saunders, who took care of our mother with great love.

Thomas Toomey, 82, of Barboursville died Thursday, January 10, 2002 in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Huntington. He was a machinist. Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Patzig of Weisbaden, Germany; and one nephew, John Ash of Deltona, Fla. Burial in Grafton National Cemetery. Kenneth E. Voorhees
Kenneth Earl Voorhees, 57, of Hurricane died January 5, 2002, at home after a long illness.
He was a member of Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane. He was retired from Carbide with 37 years of service, a member of the Nitro Antique Car Club and an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Voorhees, and one son, Mark Aaron Voorhees.
Surviving: wife, Joyce A. Voorhees; mother, Evelyn Holcomb Voorhees; daughters, Jamie Lynn and Kristin Michelle Voorhees at home, son, Michael Patrick Voorhees of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey; sisters, Linda Matucheck of Trenton, New Jersey and Jean Baluta of Bound Brook, New Jersey; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Ena B. Wright Davis, 84, of Hurricane, formerly of Poca, died Friday, January 4, 2002.
She was a member of McKinnon Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She was a Cub and Girl Scout leader for 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Davis.

Rosalee Cady
Rosalee Moses Davis Cady, 71, of Mason, New Hampshire died January 2, 2002, in Harborside Pheasant Wood Nursing Home, Peterborough, New Hampshire.
She had been a resident of Mason since 1985 and had previously lived in Dalton, Ohio and Hurricane.
She was in July 11, 1930 in Hurricane, the daughter of the late Leo and Hattie Call Moses. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and feeding birds. She was a member of Ada Baptist Church, Hurricane.
She was the widow of Laurel E. Davis and Gerald R. Cady. She was also preceded in death by her son, Ronald C. Davis, and her daughter, Regina Gay Davis.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Drema and Patrick Cady of Mason; sons, and daughters-in-law, Jerry E. and Judy Davis of Dalton and Donald C. and Charlotte Davis of Quaker City, Ohio; stepchildren and spouses, Kathleen and Roger Doufille of Hudson, New Hampshire, Michael and Terry Cady of Wilton, New Hampshire, and Beth and Kevin Teeboom of Nashua, New Hampshire; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles Moses of Pt. Carl F. Nutt, 85, of Scott Depot died January 5, 2002, at home after an extended illness.
He was a member of the Hurricane Church of Christ and was a retired lieutenant colonel from the West Virginia State Police with 30 years’ service and was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways with 13 years of service. He was a member of the Hamlin Masonic Lodge 79 AF&Am Scottish Rite bodies, Charleston, Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, all State Police Post 112, American Association of State Troopers, West Virginia Association of State Troopers and the State Police FOP Lodge 107. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a 34-year resident of Teays Valley.

He was born in Healing Springs, Virginia, to Dudley P. and Florence Liptrap. He was a World War II Army veteran, and a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was a retired bus driver for Putnam County Schools.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Audrey “Law” Liptrap.

He was a retired self-employed businessman and was retired from the Putnam County Board of Education Vocational Trade School. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Scott Depot, a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, and a member of Masonic Lodge 170 AF&AM, Nitro, Scottish Rite bodies and Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, both of Charleston, and the Serenity Club, Dunbar. He was a 38-year resident of Winfield.

She was raised in Hinton and was a 20-years resident of Red House. She worked as a postal carrier and an officer for Weight Watchers. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
