Ida Irene Drummond, 83, of Huntington passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral service were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Henson Mortuary, by Rev. E. S. Harper. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Ida was born Aug. 17, 1918, in Lewis County, Ky., daughter of the late William and Anna Cushard. She was formerly with National Steel Co., and was a member of Apostolic Life Cathedral. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Vernatter; one sister, Mamie Thurmond; one son Lloyd Amos Maynard and two grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Johnny Drummond; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Thelma and Robert Farmer of South Point, Ohio, Mary Ellen and Kendall Hooser of Huntington and Asenath Ann Maynard of New London, Ohio; one sister, Edna Eddington of Vanceburg, Ky.; one brother, William Cushard Jr. of Vanceburg; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters and sons-in-laws, Gloria Ann and Gary Misner of Little Rock, Ark., Joyce and Gary Fowler of Summit, Ky., and Bonnie and Bill Sneed of South Carolina; one daughter-in-law, Linda Maynard and one son-in-law, Carroll Vernatter.

Mary M. Rayburn Donahoe McCoy, 76, of Salt Rock, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord February 17, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 20, 20O2 at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Steve Nida. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. She was born February 10, 1926, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Ezra and Bertha Ellen Rayburn. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Cathy Collins and Linda McCoy. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Pat Beckett of Salt Rock; three sons, Jackie McCoy of Salt Rock and Dennis McCoy and Alfred Donahoe and his companion Lana Mays, all of Huntington; one, sister, Lorane Adams of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Ezra Rayburn Jr. of Barboursville; grandchildren, Melissa, Mack, Donald, Jeff, Eric, Belinda, Dennis and Shamra; and several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
James Ronald “Dude” Hall
James Ronald “Dude” Hall, 79, of Milton, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2002, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was the son of the late Thomas I. and Zella Alice Jones Hall. His wife, Helen Geneva Hall, also precedes him in death. He was a retired insulator for Union Carbide, Institute, and a member of The Baptist Temple, Huntington, former member of Milton Baptist Church. He also enjoyed woodworking for many years. Funeral service were conducted Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor J. Andrew Magnusson officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Jane (Charles) Dundas of Ona, W.Va, and Carol Ann (John) Windett of Franklin W.Va.; one granddaughter, Fiona Scott Dundas of Ona, W.Va.; three grandsons, Michael Shane, Timothy Scott and Jeffery James Windett, all of Franklin W.Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Eula (Richard) Sovine of Milton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean (Bill) Morris of Culloden, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Jean Hall of Huntington, W.Va., and Jenny Hall of Hurricane, W.Va.; three nieces, Joan O’Dell, Sherry Morris and Janet Rogers; four nephews, Donald Jr., Tim, Ted Hall and Steve Morris; one special cousin, Louise Peyton of Ceredo, W.Va.; and several great nieces and nephews. Joe B. Dickinson
Joe B. Dickinson, 85, of Scott Depot died February 10, 2002, in CAMC Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 26, 1916 in Ballard WV, the son of the late Frank and Lelia Dickinson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie, Elmer and Earl.
He was a graduate of Marshall University. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator during World War II and retired as a lieutenant colonel after 23 years of service.
He retired from the WV Health department, where he had worked since 1979 as a comptroller. He was a member of Abney Street Church of God, St. Albans, where he served many terms on the board and was chairperson of the trustees, men’s Sunday school class teacher and treasurer of the church.
Surviving: wife of 60 years, Edna Thurston Dickinson; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sueanna Dickinson of Hendersonville, North Carolina; six nieces and nephews.
Service was held Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Jack Lawrence officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Larry E. Ferguson
Larry Ercel Ferguson, 43, of Pliny died February 16, 2002, at home after a sudden illness.
He was a member of Mount Union Methodist Church, Pliny, a welder for Taylor & Striegel Construction Company, and a lifelong resident of Pliny.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Lynn Jeffries Ferguson.
Surviving: parents, Russell R. and Zeda Mae Ferguson of Pliny; daughter, Sarah Lee Ferguson of Teays Valley; son, Bryan Nicholas Ferguson of Teays Valley; stepdaughters, Danielle and Chantella Lett, both of Pliny; stepson, David Lett of Pliny; sister, Kay Ferguson Stewart of Pliny; brothers, Johnny, Pete, Dick, Bob, Ray, Terry and Jimmy Ferguson, all of Pliny; several nieces and nephews.

Grace M. Perry
Grace M. Perry, 85, died February 18, 2002.
Born December 10, 1916 in Dakota, on Cabin Creek, she was the eldest of 14 children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Hurndin V. Perry, son, George William Perry, and daughter-in-law, June Perry.
She was a lifelong Christian, with membership at Oakwood Baptist Church, Charleston, and Buffalo Nazarene Church. She was a cook for Kanawha County Schools for many years and a proprietor of a grocery store at Ohley and Eskdale.
Surviving: daughters and sons-in-law, Judie and Earl L. Vaughan of Charleston, Joyce and Ronald Harris of Buffalo; sons and a daughter-in-law, Fred Perry of Poca, Darrel Gene and Laura Perry of Buffalo; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, May Ann Fowler of Franklin and Ruby Hughes of Batavia, Ohio; caregiver, Hilda Skeens of St. Albans.
Service was held Thursday, February 21, 2002, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Sidney Warner and the Rev. David Bess officiating. Burial was in the Perry family Cemetery, Bethel Ridge Road, Buffalo.
Lilly Mae Jividen
Lilly Mae Cain Jividen, 89, of Liberty died February 20, 2002, at home following a long illness.
She was a homemaker, a membr of Mount Zion Church, Given, and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burton “Jack” Jividen.
Surviving: son, William Jividen of Liberty; daughter, Jane Smith of Liberty; brother, Dencil Cain of Red House; grandchildren, Jo Ann Thompson of Winfield, Mark and Michael Smith, both of Liberty; great-grandchildren, Shane Thompson and Lee Ann Thompson, both of Winfield.

William J. Frye, Sr.
William Jackson Frye, Sr., 70, of King, North Carolina died February 15, 2002 in a Winston Salem hospital of cancer.
Jack was born March 4, 1931 at Bloomingrose, Boone County, the son of the late Freeman and Vonnie Tackett Frye. He was a 1950 graduate of Hurricane High Schol and lived in Teays Valley for 25 years before moving to North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph and Clarence Frye, and sister Hazel Frye.
Surviving: wife, Amy Elizabeth “Betty” Frye; son, William J. “Jackie” Frye, Jr. of King; sisters, Thelma Toney of Charleston WV, and Verldean Eggleton of Katy, Texas; brothers, Paul D. Frye of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Boyd L. Frye of Burns, Wyoming; nieces and nephews.
Service was held February 18, 2002 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor David McVey officiating. Burial was in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco, Lincoln County.
Thomas Edward Ash
Thomas Edward Ash, 87, of Winchester, Virginia died Thursday, February 21, 2002, at his residence.
He was born October 24, 1914 in Black Betsy, son of the late Charles and Bertha Runyon Ash. He was a millwright employed by the Millwright Local Union in Parkersburg. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was a member of Kanawha Valley Lodge No. 36 of the Grand Lodge of West Virginia A.F. & A.M., Buffalo. He married Beulah Wade Ash, who survives, on November 11, 1950 in Sissonville.
Also surviving: son, David Ash of Berryville, Virginia; daughters, Nancy Smock of Stafford, Virginia and Frances Lederer of Frankfort, Illinois; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
Service was held Sunday, February 24, 2002, at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, with the Rev. Douglas Wright officiating. John E. Wick
John E. Wick, 76, died February 22, 2002, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was a retired truck driver from Smith Transfer, Charleston, with 20 years of service and a member of Teamsters Union Local 175, Charleston.
He was born June 16, 1925, the son of the late Harry and Clara Wick and was a lifelong resident of Scott Depot. He was the husband of the late Margaret Lorene Ashworth Wick. He also was preceded in death by a son Tommy Wick, and sisters, Opal McCallister and Carol Whitt.
Surviving: daughters, Margaret Anne Wick, Janet “Katie “ Wick, Donna Lovejoy, Annette Wick, June Lee Setliff, all of Scott Depot, and Joyce E. Wick of St. Albans; grandchildren, Julie Marino of Hurricane, John “Matt” Wick, Andy Wick, J.D. Xylphia Reed
Xylphia Davis Reed, 97, of Scott Depot died February 22, 2002, at home.
Mrs. Reed was born August 30, 1904 to the late Ira O. and Gertrude Davis. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, T.E. “Felix” Reed, daughter, Belva Reed Rutledge; brothers, Carl Kermit and Gerald David; sisters, Elsie Hull, Juanita Burriss, Kathleen Henson and Christine Shaffer.
She was formerly of Nitro, a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Nitro, a former member of the First Baptist Church in Dunbar, a retired school teacher with Putnam County Schools, and a former member of the Farm Women’s Club in Eleanor.
Surviving: son, Samuel Everett Reed of Buffalo; daughters, Dorothy Coen of Tennessee and Martha Goodall of Scott Depot; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Sunday, February 24, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Nitro, with Pastor Lawrence Hoptry officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Forest Elsworth Cottrell
Forest Elsworth Cottrell, 79, of Hurricane died February 21, 2002, at Teays Valley Center after a long illness.
He was born January 5, 1923 in Hurricane, the son of the late Homer and Adda harbour Cottrell, He retired from Union Carbide, South Charleston, in 1988 after 46 years. He was a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, a former member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane and amember of the Class of 1941 of Hurricane High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific in World War II.
He was preceded in death in 1986 by his first wife, Icel Hodges Cottrell, and by two brothers, Randall and Carson Cottrell.
Surviving wife, Marion Sovine Howell Cottrell; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Karen Cottrell of Huntington, and their children, Tiffany, Adam, Nicole and Kimberly; stepson and his wife, Stan and Carrie Howell of Hurricane, and their children, Adam, Amanda and Jacob; stepdaughter, Beth Howell Harvey of Columbus, Ohio, and her children, Shaun and Shannon Montgomery; one great-grandhild; brothers and their wives, Odel and Ruby Cottrell and Harvey and Lois Cottrell, all of Hurricane; sister-in-law, Ivel Cottrell of Norwood, Ohio.

Richard Carlton Adkins
Richard Carlton Adkins, 89, of Ona, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born April 12, 1912, in Wayne County, W.Va, the son of the late Freelin B. and Nellie Adkins, and was also preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Adkins Bowen; three brothers, Foster, Eugene and Verlin Adkins; one grandson, Mathew and one great-grandson, Curtis. He retired from Sears as a service technician in 1977. Funeral service were held Friday, February 22, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Paul Meadows and Pastor Bob Johnson officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. He began his work for the Lord in 1933. He joined Macedonia Missionary Church on Price Creek Road and served as a Deacon Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He and his wife relocated to Ona in 1970 as a result of the construction of Beech Fork Lake. He then became a member and Assistant Sunday School Teacher at Beulah Ann Baptist Church of Howell’s Mill Road. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Eula Day Adkins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn (George) Godby of Milton and Helen (John) Lusher of Barboursville; one son and daughter-in-law, Glen S. (Patricia) Adkins of Huntington; nine grandchildren and spouses, Steve (Jackie), Jeannie (Robert), Kaylene, LeAnn (Craig), Todd (Angie), Rick (Rhonda), Nessy (Jack), Carla (Scott), and Cindy (Andy); 19 great-grandchildren, Brandi, Christopher, Alaina, Tessa, Marla, Meg, Charlie D, Samantha, Nathan, Matthew, Anna, Jacob, Mindy, Katie, Zachary, Glen, Shelby, Amy and Brian. Grandsons were pallbearers. He fought a good fight and kept the faith. Our loss is heaven’s gain.
Cecil Ray Walker
Cecil Ray Walker, 79, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Graveside services were held Friday, February 22, 2002, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was the son of the late John and Zola Ullom Walker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lillian M. Walker; a brother, James Walker; two sisters, Analara Donahoe and Eloise Adkins. He was retired from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway shops in Raceland, Ky, with 43 years of service. He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, James Walker of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tommy and Janice Walker of Huntington; one daughter, Judith Ogden of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers and their wives, Eldon and Irene Walker of Barboursville, Calvin Walker of Huntington and Jack and Mary Walker of Lakeland, Fla; two sisters and their husbands, Helen and Bill Malone and Wanda and Merton Neaf of Fairborn, Ohio; six grandchildren, Tommy Ray, Keith, Michael Christina Walker and Michael and Audrey Ogden. Lowell Landon Clay, 65, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 19, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 22, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Rick Glass. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. He was born July 29, 1936, in Cabell County, a son of the late Gordon and Grace Gertrude Rayburn Clay. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Sherwood Douglas Clay, and one sister, Helen Eloise Clay. He was a self-employed building contractor, a member of Elmwood Baptist Church, and was a leader in the community. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Betty Hicks Clay; one son, Lowell Landon “Lanny” Clay II and his wife Terri; two daughters, Justine Ellaine Nida and Marion Nida, and Gloria Annette Shewsberry and her husband Lowery, all of Barboursville; Dale McCallister was looked to as a son and his wife Lisa and son Joshua; the most wonderful mother-in-law, Lucille Hicks Bowen; three sisters, Mildred Afton Wheeler of Huntington, Myrtle Gordon Roy of Barboursville and Wanda Bryan Hutchinson of Chesapeake, Ohio; two brothers, Henry Donald Clay of Huntington and Howard Clay of Barboursville; five grandchildren who called their grandfather “Pappy,” Marion Lowell “Daniel” Nida, James David Perry III, Stephanie Grace Perry, Natalie Ann Nida and Jarrod Alan Clay; very special friends, Donald and Sandy Dunkle, and Dr. Stephanie A. Skolik and her family. He leaves behind a loving family and a host of friends who loved him more than anything.

Eloise Cummings Ball, 85, of Milton, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 in Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane. She was formerly a clerk for Kroger. Survivors include one son, James Dale Ball of Milton. Gary William Clary
Gary William Clary, 53, of Lesage, W.Va., passed away Sunday, February 24, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born September 23, 1948, in Huntington, a son of Doris Turner Clary of Lesage and the late Lewellyn Clary Jr. He worked for Amhurst Coal Company for 21 years and in 1990 started working for Gallagher Ford, which became Turnpike Ford of Huntington. He had been attending Olive Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, James Clary, also of Lesage. Graveside service was conducted Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Elmer Hinkle
Elmer Hinkle, 95, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Milton and Huntington, W.Va. died February 18, 2002. He loved God with his whole heart and has entered into His presence rejoicing with his wife of 72 years, Garnett, who died 7 months ago and his son, Richard, who died in 1941 at the age of 11. He was also preceded in death by his six siblings, Cecil, Willa, Freda, Vivian, Paul and Basil. He was born February 5, 1907 in rural Milton, WV, the son of the late Tiffany Taylor Hinkle and Anna Belle Staton Hinkle. He worked at his parent’s grocery store in Milton before becoming a carpenter and working for BASF , formerly Standard Ultramarine Company of Huntington.. He was a resident of Milton from 1907 to 1965 and a resident of Huntington from 1965 to 1994. He and Garnett moved to Colorado Springs to be near their daughter in 1994. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Chick McCormick, and two grandchildren, Kelly of Santa Barbara California and Brian and his wife, Allison of Bellevue, Washington and many special nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 522 East Madison, Colorado Springs, Co 80907. Blunt Mortuary and Evergreen Cemetery was in charge of interment. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 2, at New Hope Baptist Church led by his caring friend and pastor, Don Stern.

Kathern Drusella Lilly Kelley, 81, of Huntington. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 12, 2002, in Fairhaven Rest Home, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Balls Gap Cemetery Kathern was born September 21, 1920, in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Bowman and Laura Lilly. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jarrell “Don” Kelly. One of five children and the wife of John L. Kelley, Kathern has two brothers and two sisters; four grandchildren, Donnie and Deborah C. Kelly, Teresa and Danny Vickers, Anthony Kelly and Debbie and Garland Bills; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.
Carolyn Vaughan
The battle is over and the victory is won for Carolyn Vaughan. She is at rest. She left this world Sunday, February 10, 2002, after a long illness. She was 59 years old. She is the mother of two children Debbie Tabor and Dwayne McNeely of Huntington; two grandchildren, Amanda Tabor and Shawn Tabor, and one very special greatgrandson, Elijah Tabor. She is also survived by her father Odell and stepmother Violet Childers of Wayne, W.Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Homer Gue, with whom she made her home; one brother and sister-in-law, Sherrill Wayne and Shelby Childers of North Carolina; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Childers and Janice Childers Walker. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Nelson Childers; one sister, Patricia Varney and two brothers, Leonard Richard Childers and Ronald Childers. She was a former employee of the Huntington State Hospital. She leaves behind a host of special nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at the Wallace Funeral Home by the Rev. Ray Adkins. Mr. Richard Cecil Jefferson, 68, of Lesage, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Richard was born December 26, 1933, in Lesage, W.Va., a son of the late Rev. Harold Jefferson and Hazel Roberts Jefferson. He was retired from INCO Alloys and served his country in the United States Navy. Jamie and Tess Jefferson of Lesage, and Jerry and Teresa Jefferson of Ona; two brothers, Carl Jefferson of Point Pleasant, W.Va., and Arnold Jefferson of Lesage; five grandchildren, Jessica and John Jefferson, Derek and Matthew Wheeler and Nathan Jefferson. He left a host of friends too numerous to name. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Bonnie Thompson Smith
Bonnie Thompson Smith, 74, of Barboursville, formerly of Dayton widow of the Rev. Arthur Smith died Monday, February 11, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Survivors include two brothers, Charles Ray Thompson of Glen Lyn, Va., and Herbert E. Thompson of Huntington; and two sisters, Jewell M. Donahoe of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Glenna F. Cline of Naperville, Ill. Funeral services were held Friday, February 15, 2002 at Terebinski Funeral Home, Tipp City, Ohio; burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Larry Eugene Ratcliff
Larry Eugene Ratcliff, 59, beloved husband and father, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, February 11, 2002, after bravely battling many illnesses for years. He was born to the late Delbert “Runt” and Mabel Alley Ratcliff. He was preceded in death by his “DAD” Albert Alley, a sister, Patricia Jackson and brother, William D. Ratcliff. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, and retired from INCO Alloys of Huntington. Funeral service were conducted Wednesday, February 14, 20O2, at Heck Funeral Home, with the Pastor E.S. Harper officiating. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park. He always put his family first. He is loved and will be sadly missed by the love of his life, his wife of 35 years, Charlotte Bills Ratcliff; their children, Larry E. Ratcliff Jr., Mark A. Ratcliff, James E. Ratcliff and Tiffany Beth Ratcliff Napier. He had a special love for his grandson, Tanner Ryan Ratcliff. He also leaves behind a precious friend, Orville “O.J.” Bostic, whom he loved like a brother. He also found great joy and happiness in his beloved pet Yorkies. He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
Irvin Marshall Sweeney
Irvin Marshall Sweeney, 76, of Barboursville, formerly of Huntington, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Steve Nida. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born January 31, 1926, in Wayne County, a son of the late Cecil and Audrey McComas Sweeney. He was a Huntington businessman, owner and operator of Irvin M. Sweeney Cement Contractor, Inc. He attended Salt Rock United Methodist Church for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II in the Third Fleet as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of Huntington Lodge #53 A.F. & A.M of Huntington, whose members conducted Masonic graveside rites. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite, the Beni Kedem Temple and Shrine, the Legion of Honor in Charleston, the Huntington Shrine Club and the Huntington Chapter #8 Order of Eastern Star. He was affiliated and was ambassador for many years for the Lexington Shriner’s Hospital. He was Legion Noble of the Year in 1987 and worked with the Babe Ruth Tournament for many years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Earl Sweeney. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Eileen Johnson Sweeney; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Deborah Jackson of Lavalette, Marsha and Harry Dunlap of Barboursville, Stephanie and Tony Smith of Barboursville; six grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Michelle Jackson of Simpsonville, S.C., Timothy Dunlap of Barboursville, Mark and Crystal Jackson of Lavalette, Amy and Chip Hendricks of Ona, Jason and Christy Dunlap of Ona, BreAnna Nicole Smith; three great-grandchildren Chase Hendricks, Lindsay Marie Hendricks and Austin Scott Jackson; one brother, John D. Sweeney of Salt Rock; and a host of relatives and friends. Grandsons and sons-in-law served as pallbearers. A special thanks to Kristi Erwin of Culloden, Dan Jackson of Lavalette, Al Jessup of Ona, Dr. Rafel Molina and staff, Dr. David Ayers and staff and a special thanks to the VA Medical Center at Spring Valley in Huntington, and also the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Sharon Kay Miller
Sharon Kay Miller, 55, of Milton went home to be with the Lord and her loving husband, Bob Miller, on Tuesday, February 12, 2002, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 18, 2002 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock. She was born September 21, 1946, in Kanawha County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Junior J. Ferrell Sr., and Elsie Alford Ferrell. She was also preceded in death by her grandmother, Virginia Clagg. She was a retired clerk for the West Virginia Unemployment Office. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Kim Ferrell of Chesapeake, W.Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Roseann and Gene Cuny of Milton; special niece Jennifer Cuny, several nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.
Maxine Clark Kiff
Maxine Clark Kiff of Fort Myers was born July 21, 1915, and died Feb. 6, 2002. She lived most of her life in Cabell, Putnam and Kanawha Counties West Virginia, but was a resident of Florida for the past 25 years. She was a high school librarian and naturalist. She was a volunteer bird bander for the Fish and Wildlife Service for 30 years during which time she banded many thousands of migratory birds. She was a member of the Wilson Ornithological Society, the Brooks Bird Club, the Caloosa Bird Club and the Florida Ornithological Society. She is survived by her husband Ben Kiff, of Fort Myers, her son, Lloyd Kiff, and his much-loved wife, Julie, of Star, Idaho, and grandchildren Kaleena and Juanita Kfff of Vancouver, British Columbia. A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres, FL where she was a member. Anderson Funeral Home of Lehigh Acres was in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made in memory of the deceased to the Brooks Bird Club, Box 4077, Wheeling, WV 26003.
Ida Irene Drummond
Ida Irene Drummond, 83, of Huntington passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral service were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 at Henson Mortuary, by Rev. E S. Harper. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Ida was born Aug. 17, 1918, in Lewis County, Ky., daughter of the late William and Anna Cushard. She was formerly with National Steel Co., and was a member of Apostolic Life Cathedral. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Vernatter and Mamie Thurmond; one brother, Lloyd Amos Maynard and two grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Johnny Drummond; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Thelma and Robert Farmer of South Point Ohio, Mary Ellen and Kendall Hooser of Huntington and Asenath Ann Maynard of New London Ohio; one sister, Edna Eddington of Vanceburg, Ky.; one brother, William Cushard Jr. of Vanceburg; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Gloria Ann and Gary Misner of Little Rock, Ark., Joyce and Gary Fowler of Summit Ky., and Bonnie and Bill Sneed of South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Linda Maynard and one brother-in-law, Carroll Vernatter.
