Willard Farley
Willard Farley, 86, of East Lynn, W.Va, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 at Wolf Pen Church of Christ, by Minister Delmar Adkins and Brother Rusty Adkins. Burial in Jones Cemetery. He was born August 27, 1915, in Wayne County, a son of the late Jesse and Vinnie Farley. He was a member of Wolf Pen Church of Christ. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Nannie Farley, and one nephew, Orville Farley. He is survived by two sisters, Elsie Matthews and Lula Johnson, both of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Acie Farley of Barboursville and Macil Farley of East Lynn; and several nieces and nephews. Willard first lived with Leo and Rita Adkins, until they could no longer take care of him. Willard then came to live with Emuel and Joyce Adkins. There he was not only taken care of wonderfully but also became a member of their family and was loved unconditionally. Emuel and Joyce Adkins’ children also loved and looked at Willard as their “Pawpaw.” Willard always depended upon Joyce Adkins, and she never let him down. She held his hand all the way to the end. Willard’s brothers and sisters can not thank Emuel and Joyce enough for their loving care. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.
Ruby N. Taylor
Ruby N. Taylor, 93, of Barboursville passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at home. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Barboursville, by Rev. Richard Black. Burial in Enon Cemetery. She was born September 16, 1908, in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late William Benjamin and Louella Ball Perry. She was a retired employee of Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Taylor, and one granddaughter, June May. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Earl “Wink” May of Barboursville; one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Georgia Taylor of Barboursville; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Sherman Terry Nelson
Sherman Terry Nelson, 67, of Huntington, died Thursday, February 14, 2002, at home. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 17, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Charles Markin. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. He was born April 22, 1935, in Cabell County, a son of the late Pearly and Dora E. Smith Nelson. He was retired from the U.S. Navy. He is survived by three daughters, Linda Smith, Sharon Cloud and Deborah Bove, all of Texas; one son Sherman T. Nelson Jr. of Texas; two sisters, Elsie Linville of Ona and Sylvia L. Sheffey of Huntington; two brothers, Arthur Nelson of Barboursville and Gordon Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colo.: and seven grandchildren.
Lois Marie Harbour
Lois Marie Harbour, 90, of Iverness, Fla., formerly of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 14, 2002, in Citrus Memorial Hospital, Iverness. She was the daughter of the late Shelby J. and Mary Ellen Nicholas Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry B. Harbour, and daughter, Norma Jean Harbour. Graveside services were held Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Valene Harbour of Iverness; one brother, Everett Reynolds of Ripley, WV; three sisters, Lola A. Clendenen of Orlando, Fla., Thelma I. Yates of Denedin, Fla., and Elsie D. Clendenen of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Brent (Kathryn) Harbour of Thomasville, Ga., and Stephanie (Keith) Marshall of Beaufort, S.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Chase, Chance, Bailey, Rylan and Carter. Raymond O. Briscoe
Raymond O. Briscoe, 95, of Nitro died February 9, 2002, at home.
Mr. Briscoe was a 61-year resident of Nitro and retired from Monsanto with 25 years’ service. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of American, a former member of Nitro Moose Lodge, a member and former president of Monsanto Sportsman Club and a member of 15th Street Church of God, Nitro.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha, sons, Gary Briscoe and Raymond Briscoe Jr., brothers, Malcolm Briscoe and James Briscoe.
Surviving: wife of 50 years, Rosemary Dolin Briscoe; children, Carrie Jo Haught of St. Albans, Margaret Ann Thomas of Orlando, Florida and Asher C. Briscoe of South Charleston; sisters, Kathryn VanDyke of Teays Valley, Opal Landers of Winfield, Claris Taylor of Teays Valley, and Ilda Morrison of Kanawha City; brother, Ralph Briscoe of Teays Valley; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, February 13, 2001, at 15th Street Church of God with Pastor Rob Vanfossen officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.
David W. Canterbury
David Wayne Canterbury, 46, of Teays Valley died February 9, 2002, at his residence.
He was a teacher and elementary school principal, having worked in Kanawha and Gilmer counties. He was a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church and the West Virginia Principals Association. He was a 10-year resident of Teays Valley and a graduate of St. Albans High School, West Virginia State College and the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
Surviving: wife, Lucy Canterbury of Teays Valley; parents, Mildred Salisbury of Scott Depot and Edward Canterbury of Cross Lanes; brother, Douglas Canterbury of Winfield.
A memorial service was held Friday, February 15, 2002, at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kevin Channell officiating. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.

Timothy J. Lemon
Timothy James Lemon, 43, of Hurricane, formerly of Parkersburg, died February 10, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington.
He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late Dale Francis and Audra E. Deem Lemon.
He was a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church where he worked with the Nursing Home Ministry. He had worked as a piano sales manager with Pied Piper at the Huntington Mall and formerly worked at Laughery Organ Center at the Grand Central Mall. He was a member of the FMC Sportsman Club, enjoyed hunting and fishing, he pastored Oak Grove Baptist Church, Culloden and has served in the United States Navy.
Surviving: wife, Patti Kaye Thompson Lemon; daughter, Rachel Marie Lemon at home; brothers, Tom Lemon of Parkersburg and Michael Lemon of Vincent, Ohio; sisters, Dottie Gearhart and Cheryl Topolski Deem, both of Belpre, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; father- and mother-in-law, Lester “L.V.” and Betty Thompson of Larkmead.
Service was held Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at Landmark Baptist Church, Parkersburg, with Pastor Jerry Caplinger, Pastor John Duffy and Pastor Michael Lamb officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15. Kimes Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Brian Ray Lindsey, 25, of Poca died February 9, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital.

Lottie J. Franklin
Lottie Jane Franklin, 82, of Winfield died February 11, 2002, in SunBridge of Putnam, Hurricane.
She was a homemaker, a member of Judson Baptist Church, Bill’s Creek, Winfield, and a 49-year resident of Winfield.
Surviving: husband, Lawrence Franklin; daughter, Carolyn Mandrake of Ravenswood; sons, Jerry Franklin of Hamlin and William “Bill” Franklin of Milton; sister, Ruby Kover of Bristolville, Ohio; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Elsie C. Bush
Elsie Commella Runyon Bush, 90, of Buffalo died February 11, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
She was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett U. Bush, sister, Rachel Wilson, and brother, Alfred Runyon.
Surviving: daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia Ann and Lewis Riffle of Nitro, Levirdia Mae and Clodes Harrison of Palm Bay, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Linda Bush of Winfield; grandchildren, Florence Ann Hannoush of Cross Lanes, James Lewis Riffle of Nitro and Ricky E. Charles L. Dagostine
Charles L. “Chuck” Dagostine, 86, of Winfield died Februray 12, 2002, at home after a short illness.
He was retired from Ross Distributors, Easton PA. He attended Winfield Nazarene Church and was a former member of the AFL-CIO and the American Legion, Winfield. He was a World War II Army veteran and a 20-year resident of Winfield.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jim” Dagostine of Bancroft.
Surviving: wife, Rosalie Dagostine; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was held Saturday, February 16, 2002, at Belvidere Cemetery, Belvidere, New Jersey, with military graveside rites. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
Gerald L. Higginbotham
Gerald L. Higginbotham, 68, of Hurricane died February 12, 2002, at home after a short illness.
He was a 33-year resident of Hurricane and a former resident of Dunbar and St. Albans.
He was a former truck driver for Continental Can Corporation/Sonoco Fibre Drum, Culloden, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Teays Valley. He was a retired member of United Steelworkers of America Local 6888 and served in the United States Army and Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Lynn Higginbotham, and his parents, Basil and Delma Higginbotham.
Surviving: wife, Jean Crago Higginbotham; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Ralph Langley of Hurricane; son and daughter-in-law, David and Leslie Higginbotham of Hurricane; sisters, Jacqueline Craigo of Dunbar, Janet Wilson of Oak Island, North Carolina, and Betty Bradley of Naperville, Illinois; brother, Robert G. Higginbotham of St. Albans; five grandchildren; a host of good friends and neighbors.
Service was held Friday, February 15, 2002, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Pete Thompson officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Richard E. Lett
Richard E. “Slim” Lett, 74, of Newark, Wirt County, died February 16, 2002, in Camden-Clark Hospital, Parkersburg.
He was born August 28, 1927 at Poca, a son of the late John Lett and Mattie Washington Lett Sargent.
He began his career in the nursery business more than 60 years ago at Conner & Amos Nursery, Kanawha County, and later relocated to Wirt County to help found the Little Kanawha Nursery, where he continued his employment until the time of his death. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing horseshoes at the Wirt County Fair.
Surviving: brother and his wife, Irvin and Loretta Sargent of Waverly; sisters and their husbands, Emma and Gordon Cooper of Red House, Nancy and Roy King of Poca; five nieces and nephews; five great-nieces and -nephews.
Service was held Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Rev. Robert Stanley officiating. Burial was in the Fought Cemetery, Newark.
Paul E. Parks
Paul E. “Bob” Parks, 69, of Liberty died February 13, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Liberty.
Surviving: wife, Doris Parks; son, Roy Lee Parks of Sissonville; granddaughter, Kelly Parks of Liberty; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Charlotte Ann Wade
Charlotte Ann Wade, 68, of Hurricane died February 6, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and longtime resident of Hurricane.

Elsworth “Pete” Layne
Elsworth “Pete” Layne, 70, of Barboursville, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2002, at St Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted 2 pm Saturday, February 9, 2002 at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville. He was born April 11, 1931, in Huntington, a son of the late Anderson and Ruby Elkins Layne. He was preceded in death by one son, Jack Layne. He is survived by one son Gary Layne of Three Rivers, Mich; two sisters, Eloise Jordan of Huntington and Delores Henderson of Barboursville; one brother, Donald Layne of Plainwell, Mich; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Wallace at Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.
