Verba Inez “Ina” Bowles, 90, of Culloden went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Claude Spurlock officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born January 22, 1912, in Culloden, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles Garrett and Virginia Atcherson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Russell Bowles; two sons, Ronald Bowles and Scotty Bowles; and one daughter, Aletha Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Culloden Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Russell L. and Loretta Bowles of Hurricane and Ricky Bowles of Dale, Ind.; one half sister, Garnet Hess of Culloden; two half brothers, Charles Garrett of Culloden and Jimmy Garrett of Hurricane; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special friend of the family, H. R. Smith of Daytona Beach, Fla.

Mildred H. Lunsford
Mildred H. Lunsford, 80, of Milton, widow of William Clayton Lunsford, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital. She was born January 16, 1922, a daughter of the late Peter Elbert and Beta Hopkins. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Gerald B. Hopkins. She was retired from Blenko Glass Company with more than 30 years of employment. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Norman and Diana Lunsford of Milton and James Lunsford of Antioch, Tenn.; four grandchildren, David, Jamie, Jason and Megan; six great-grandchildren, Jarad, Kylie, Tommi, Colby, Corey and Brooklyn; and two special people in her life, Ruth Jenkins and Reuben Allen. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Milton Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels, or Milton Baptist Church Building Fund. Private funeral services will be conducted at a later date. Heck Funeral Home Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

William Creath Keaton
William Creath Keaton, 65, of Milton, husband of Ardine Keaton of Santee, Calif.; died Saturday, March 9, 2002 in La Mesa, Calif. He was an engineer at Grossmont Hospital, La Mesa. Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth Keaton and Brian Keaton; and one daughter, Kelly Patterson. Graveside services were held at Greenwood Cemetery, San Diego. Featheringill Mortuary, San Diego, was in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association for mesotheleomia research.

Emma Doris Adams
Emma Doris Adams, 77, of Hurricane, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 7, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 10, 2002 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Charles Gibson officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Emma was born February 12, 1925, a daughter of the late William F. and Alice Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Lloyd Lewis. She was a member of Fairfield Methodist Church and attended Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert “Bob” Adams; one daughter, Arlene Kay Bounds of Hurricane; sister-in-law, Rosa Lewis of Huntington; five nieces and nephews, Charles W. Lewis, Richard K. Lewis, Linda L. Soderstrom, Alice M. Henry and Raymond Lewis; five great-nieces; one great-nephew; two great-great-nieces; one great-great-nephew; and a host of family, friends and neighbors.

Ray L. Pratt
Ray L. Pratt, 90, of Salt Rock W Va, died Friday, March 8, 20O2, at St. Mary’s Hospital after an extended illness. Ray went to be with his Lord. He was born December 25, 1911, in Cabell County, a son of the late Millard and Adaline Childers Pratt. He was a member of Upper Smith Creek United Baptist Church. He was a 62-year life member of Carpenters Union Local #302. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mae Nicolls Pratt; two sisters, Wilma Gue and Marie Thompson; three brothers, Clifford, Frank and Forrest Pratt; a great-granddaughter, a daughter-in-law, Lola Pratt; and a step granddaughter, Amy Clay. He is survived by two sons, Millard (Buster) Pratt and Carl Pratt, both of Salt Rock; a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Donald Harless of Mansfield, Ohio; six grandsons, Michael, Mark and Ward Pratt of Georgia, Scott Harless of Columbus, Ohio, Todd Harless of Indiana and Jason Pratt of Barboursville; one granddaughter, Tammy (Harless) Canfield of Mansfield, Ohio; two step granddaughters, Ona Smith and Mary Ross; eight great-grandchildren; one step great-granddaughter, two brothers, John Pratt of Huntington and Emery Pratt of Salt Rock; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, 2002 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Steve Nida and Darold Harless. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park Grandsons served as pallbearers. The family wants to thank St. Mary’s Home Health for all their help, especially nurse Brenda, for all her love and kindness. They also want to thank Hospice for their love and support.

Mary Pauline Parcell
Mrs. Mary Pauline Parcell, 89, of Oviedo, Florida, formerly of Huntington, passed away March 8, 2002. Mary was born in Huntington, West Virginia and was a past member of the Eastern Star Chapter #8, Business Women of Arvada and past president of PTA in Huntington, WV. She is survived by her husband, Otey Parcell of Oviedo, Florida; a son, Otey Parcell, Jr. of Altamonte Springs, FL; three Grandchildren; three Great-Grandchildren. Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, Oviedo, Florida, was in charge of arrangements.

James Roy Wood
James Roy Wood, 83, of Barboursville, WV, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at Baptist East Hospital of a stroke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Wood and Grace Patton; and sisters Florence and Lucille. Jim was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Aleutian Islands and the South Pacific. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After his military discharge he served with the Army Corp of Engineers on the Ohio River as a dredge boat deckhand. He left this position for the United States Postal Service as a truck driver/dispatcher. He retired in 1979. Jim is survived by 6 sisters, Iris Adkins, Helen Grefe, Ruth Powell, Ruby Rodriguez, Sarah Sorenson, Virginia Mosch; a brother Clyde (Junior) Wood. He is also survived by his wife, Myrtle Rose Horn; six children who loved him very much, James Wood, Joan Wood, June Hogan, Jacqueline Ellington, Joseph Wood, and Julie Wood. He also had 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Arch L. Heady, Taylor Boulevard, was in charge of arrangements and the remains were cremated. Expressions of sympathy may take form of contributions to St. Joseph’s Orphanage, Louisville, KY.

Mary Doreen Burns
Mary Doreen Burns, 66, of Huntington went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 5, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Gordon Rutherford and Pastor Dale Rulen. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born November 28, 1935 in Milton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Harry and Glenneth Lunsford Kirby. She was a faithful member of Olive Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Billy Burns; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Donita Burns of Huntington, and Brian and Pam Burns of Altoona, Pa.; two brothers, Dwight Kirby of Glenwood, W.Va. and Fred Kirby of Milton; and six grandchildren, Scott, Matt, Jeannie, Steven, Joshua and Kristy Burns. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Dallas Reynolds
Dallas Reynolds, 71, of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 4, 2002, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland, Ky. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 6 2002, at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio, by the Rev. Scott Byard and the Rev. Bob Barbour. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio. He was born June 8, 1930, in Huntington W.Va., to the late Arvel and Eva Mae Nicholas Reynolds. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Burke. He was a retired carman from CSX Transportation in Raceland, Ky., a retired minister and member of Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Kenova, W.Va. He is survived by his wife Dolores Pittman Reynolds; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and James Huff of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Karen and Mike Allen of Chesapeake; one sister, Clodine Browning of Chesapeake, Ohio; four brothers, Ivan Reynolds of Chesapeake, Ohio, Gary Reynolds of Austin, Texas, Larry Reynolds of Proctorville, Ohio, and Danny Reynolds of Rio Grande, Ohio; one granddaughter, Callie Huff; three grandsons, Michael, Samuel and Aaron Allen; one great-granddaughter, Summer Allen; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave, Ashland, KY 41101.

Charles F. Rollins
Charles F. Rollins, 84, of Eleanor died February 24, 2002, at home following a long illness.
He was born December 23, 1917, a son of the late George W. and Wilmina Rollins. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, three brother and an infant daughter, Brenda.
He was a member of Winfield Baptist Church and was retired from Union Carbide Institute plant. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Putnam Masonic Lodge 139 AF&AM. He also served proudly in the United States Army, 508 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. He participated in several combat jumps and spent over four years in Europe during the war, including the Battle of the Bulge.
Surviving: wife, Pauline Fisher Rollins; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ed Dawson of Hurricane, Paulette and Daniel Short of Eleanor; daughters, Betty Stamper of Scott Depot; four grandchildren, John Dawson of Hurricane, Jamie Dawson of Charleston, Stephen Stamper and Amanda Stamper, both of Scott Depot; two great-grandchildren, Trey and Maddie Dawson; a host of other relatives and friends.
Service was held Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at Winfield Baptist Church with Pastor Doug McComas officiating. Burial with military rites was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064 or to Winfield Baptist Church, 3632 Winfield Road, Winfield WV 25213.

Winfred Dow Bennett
Winfred Dow Bennett, 82, of Hurricane died February 25, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, after a long illness.
He was retired from Appalachian Electric Power Co. and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a Methodist.
Surviving: wife, Virginia Morrison Bennett; sons, Larry Dow Bennett of Cross Lanes and Jerry Lee Bennett of Nashville, Tennessee; brothers, Sherman of Scott Depot and Willard of St. Albans; sister, Delores Handley of St. Albans; five grandchildren, Daska Arbaugh, Jerry Lee Bennett, Jeremy Bennett, Kevin Ball and Stacie Bennett; two great-grandchildren; Bronwyn Arbaugh and Aliscia Ball.
Service was held Thursday, February 28, 2002, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. David Mitchell officiating. Entombment was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Gloria G. Estes
Gloria G. Estes, 66, of Hurricane died February 24, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, following a short illness.
A lifelong resident of Putnam County, she was born September 12, 1935, a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Macel Withrow Chapman. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Gordon R. Estes Sr., and her sister, Carol S. Chapman.
She was a 1953 graduate of Hurricane High School, graduated from Tennessee Temple University in 1957 and attended Marshall University and the University of Charleston. She was a former employee of Somerville & Company CPA firm for 18 years and retired from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs with 25 years’ service.
She was an active member of Peoples Baptist Church, Scott Depot. She had a lifelong devotion to music and played the piano and organ for various groups, starting at the age of 12 at Grace Baptist Church and ending with Peoples Baptist Church.
Surviving: son, John G. Estes of Rock Hill, South Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Ron Sparks of Hurricane; sister, Nancy Hayslett of West Palm Beach, Florida; nieces and nephews; stepson, Gordon R. Estes Jr. of Huntington; her best friend, Robert Hull of Buffalo.
Service was held Thursday, February 28, 2002, at Peoples Baptist Church with Pastor Peter R. Faulkner officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Teays Valley. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the organ fund of Peoples Baptist Church, PO Box 628, Scott Depot WV 25560.

Robert L. Dean
Robert L. “Jimmy” Dean, 81 of Scott Depot died February 26, 2002, at home after a short illness.
He was retired from McJunkin Corporation with 31 years of service. He was a former member of Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Bodies of Charleston and Charleston Masonic Lodge #153. He was a member of Forrest Burdette Methodist Church, Hurricane. He was a World War II United States Marine veteran and lived most of his life in Kanawha County.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gertrude E. Dean, sisters, Audrey Ball and Pauline Hudnall, and brother, Ralph and Bobby Dean.
Surviving: daughter, Sandra Dean of Charleston; granddaughter, Bethany Dean of Charleston; sister, Tibby Dangerfield of Charleston; nieces and nephews.
Service was held Friday, March 1, 2002, at Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove, with the Rev. John Massey officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice.

Sherry L. Graham
Sherry L. Graham, 50, of Winfield died February 28, 2002, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, very sudddenly.
She was an employee of Winfield Child Development Center and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Surviving: husband, Henry F. graham; daughter, Michelle Rena Graham of Winfield; sons, Kelly A. of Maysville, Kentucky and Richard A. of Winfield; mother, Jacqueline Kelly of Beaver Creek, Ohio; sister, Pam Kelly of Waynesville, Ohio; brothers, Virgil Kelly of Kansas City, Missouri, Gary Kelly of Beaver Creek, and Patrick Kelly of Arcamun, Ohio; grandchildren, Whitney, Mackinzie and Seth of Winfield and Kalie of Maysville, Kentucky; three nieces and three nephews.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Doug McComas officiating. Donations in memory of Sherry may be sent to Winfield Child Development Center, 3637 Winfield Road, Winfield WV 25213

Nellie May Mollohan
Nellie May Mollohan, 79. of Winfield died Thursday, February 28, 2002, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
She was born December 31, 1922 in Red House. She was a homemaker and a member of Winfield United Methodist Church.
Surviving: husband, M. Lee Molloghan; sons and their wives, Allen and Tamara Mollohan of Winfield and Randy and Jaunice Mollohan of Charleston; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Hallie McIntyre of Dunbar.
Service was held Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Winfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Works officiating. Burial was in Winfield Cemetery. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Rolfe
Virginia Rolfe, 72, of Barboursville passed away Saturday, March 2, 20O2 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday March 5, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Carl Merritt. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born January 2, 1930. in Huntington, a daughter of the late Ezra and Mabel Shoemaker Adkins. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Rolfe; two sisters, Phyllis Sexton and Geneva Leffingwell; and six brothers, Raymond, Clifford, Chester, Walden, Jack and Harold Adkins. She is survived by her son, Jamie Rolfe of Barboursville; a special daughter, Jenny Crace of Chesapeake, Ohio; four sisters, Ruth Burgess and Janet Scarberry, both of Barboursville, Barbara Booth of Ironton, Ohio; and Jeannie Lou Beckley of Kenova; and one brother, Harold Adkins of Huntington.

Robert Kenneth “Bob” Meadows
Robert Kenneth “Bob” Meadows, 72, of Milton passed away Saturday, March 2, 20O2 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 5, 20O2, at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Milton, with Rev. Joe Dolen officiating. Burial in Mount Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was born December 17, 1929, in Mason County a son of the late Isaac and Lonie Meadows. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Ola Meadows; three brothers, Orval Meadows, William “Wig” Meadows and Henry Meadows; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Meadows. He was a retired deputy from the Cabell County Sheriffs Department. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Merle and Lois Meadows of Milton; daughter Dreama Kayser and special friend Jim Bays of Milton; seven brothers and sisters, Louise Chapman and Charles Meadows, both of Milton, Nannie Costello and Edna Browning, both of Okla., Florence Boster of Huntington, Helen Glover of Ashton, WV, and Mary Lucas of Barboursville; four grandchildren, Steve Meadows of Culloden, Chris Meadows of Huntington, and Bridgett Shaffer and Bobbie Kayser, both of Milton; four great-grandchildren, Mark Shaffer, Kyrsten Meadows, Hunter Meadows and Evelyn Meadows; caregiver, Beth Ann Young; and all his brothers and sister in law enforcement. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Leota Elizabeth Cupp
Leota Elizabeth Cupp, 84, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, February 25, 2002 in Chateau Grove Nursing Home, Barboursville. She was the daughter of the late James and Daisey Cummings Carver. One brother Earl Carver and stepson Cecil Cupp Jr., preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 28, 2002 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Marvin Stewart officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was a homemaker and member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church and lifetime member of Milton Garden Club. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Cecil Cupp; one son and daughter-in-law, A. Curtis “C. Boy” and Caroline Diamond Cupp of Eden, N.C.; and one brother, Irvin Carver of Charleston; three grandchildren, Curtis A. (Michelle) Cupp of Lake Worth, Fla., Carol Denise (Steve) Underwood of Eden, N.C., and C. Edward (Joann) Cupp of Twisp, Wash.; and eight great-grandchildren.
