Lucille J. Pearl
Lucille J. Pearl, 86, of Hurricane, formerly of Logan, died April 7, 2002, in Outlook Pointe Living, Teays Valley.
Born July 14, 1915 in Lorado, she was the daughter of the Late Harry and Edna M. Creech Justice. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Pearl, brothers, Kenneth and Max Justice; and daughter, Clara Frazier.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Logan, for over 60 years.
Surviving: sisters, Maxine Little of Hurricane and Lillian Hooker of Richlands, Virginia; brothers, Clarence Justice of Beckley and James E. Justice of Richlands; several nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
Service was held Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at Honaker Funeral Home, Logan, with Dr. Charles M. Wood II and Dr. Max Perrow officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill.

Ruby E. Bias
Ruby E. Bias, 85, of Milton died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 in Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton. She was a retired Milton Elementary School teacher. Survivors include one brother, of Eric Bias Jr. of Sandyhook Va. Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, 2002 at Heck Milton; burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton.

Maxine Lynn Cummings
Maxine Lynn Cummings, 87, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 5, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Dr. Thomas J. DuBose officiating. Burial followed in Milton Cemetery. She was born September 27, 1915, in Salem, W.Va, a daughter of the late Clayton and Carrie Burdick. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Milton Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Hensley Sunday School Class. She a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star; Past President of the Milton Woman's Club and a member of the 20th Century Club. She is survived by her husband, Donald H. Cummings; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Patrick Wisman of Milton; one son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Dixie Cummings of Milton; one brother, Clayton Lee Burdick of Hemit, Calif.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Richard and DeAnna Wisman, Dr. James Lee and Linda Cummings II, Robert and Kim Cummings and Don and Patty Wisman; 10 great-grandchildren, Alex, Katie, Brittany and Robbie Cummings and Cameron, John, Julie, Elizabeth, Aaron and Suzanne Wisman. Heck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Everett Smith
Charles Everett Smith, 60, of Huntington died Tuesday, April 2, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 5, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Ray Adkins. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. He was born May 12, 1941, in Lincoln County, a son of Lessie Harvey Epling of Huntington and the late Tim Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by one daughter, Tina Charlene Smith of Huntington; one son, Timothy Charles Smith of North Carolina; one sister, Betty Chapman of Huntington; and five brothers, Royce Smith of Salem, Ohio, Merlin Smith of South Point, Ohio, Hallie Smith of Huntington, Farnia Smith of Ridgley, W.Va., and Sandy Epling of Salt Rock. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Lula Marie Cole
Lula Marie Cole, 81, of Hurricane, formerly of South Charleston, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 17, 1920 in Charleston, daughter of Joseph and Lula Burns Workman.
She was a Baptist and member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh Edward Cole; and daughter, Linda Joyce Hollis.
Surviving: daughter, Dawn Adkins of Hurricane; son, Thomas E. Cole of South Charleston; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held of Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, with Pastor David Pence officiating. Interment was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Irene B. Grassell
Irene B. Grassell, 92, of Hurricane died March 18, 2002, after a long illness.
She was born June 4, 1909 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late William and Ella Blesh. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Joseph H. Grassell, and sisters, Lois Blesh and Ruth Blesh Resler.
Previously she had retired to Boynton Beach, Florida and lived there 25 years and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Boynton Beach and High Point Community. She was a member of the Order of the Western Star.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Grassell of Hurricane, with whom she made her home for the past five years; four grandchildren; Julie Grassell and her fiance Chad LaFleur, Jeffrey Grassell and his wife, Karen, Jona Marszalek and her husband, Joseph, all of Pittsburgh, and Joseph O. Grassell of Hurricane; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Benjamin; nieces and nephews
Private interment was held in Allegheny County Memorial Park, Pittsburgh.

Harry R. King
Harry R. King, 83, of Eleanor, formerly of Bancroft, died March 23, 2002.
Mr. King was a 12-year resident of Eleanor, a member of Bancroft Church of God Mission, a retired electrician and an Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva E. King; father, the Rev. John E. King, and mother, Virgie Landers King.
Surviving: daughters, Sharron Wright, Sheila Saunder, both of Eleanor, and Robin Akers of Fraziers Bottom; brothers, Donald M. King of Nitro, and Glen K. King of Summersville, South Carolina; sister, Evelyn R. Secord of South Charleston; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Bancroft Church of God Mission, with Pastor John Taylor and Pastor Carl Arthur officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

C. Fern Herbst
Mrs. C. Fern Herbst of Scott Depot died March 24, 2002, in CAMC Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
She was an active member of Teays Valley Church of God, where she was also involved with WCG and was a former choir member. She was a 14-year resident of Scott Depot.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Pauline Reedy Anthony, and her brother, Ben Anthony.
Surviving: husband, Reiner Herbst; daughters and son-in-law, Cathy Topole of Greensburg PA and Cherri and Keith Isenberg of Forbes Run PA; son, Michael Patrick of Greensburg; brothers, Elmer Anthony and Melvin Anthony Jr., both of Kittanning, and Richard Anthony of New Castle PA; grandsons, Joe and Matt Topole, Steven and Keith Isenberg Jr.
Service was held Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Teays Valley Church of God with Pastor Ken Toler officiating. An additional service was held Thursday, March 28, at Barnhart Funeral Home, Greensburg, Burial was in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont PA. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be sent to Teays Valley Church of God, PO Box 270, Scott Depot WV 25560.

Jolene Vera Lowe
Jolene Vera Lussky Lowe, 76, of Winfield died March 23, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Chetopa, Kansas, the daughter of the late R. Harris Lussky and Hazel M. Patrick.
She was a member of Highlawn Presbyterian Church, St. Albans. She was the beloved wife of James E. Lowe for 57 years.
Surviving: sons, James Eugene Lowe of South Charleston and Reginald Harris Lowe of Scott Depot; daughters, Kristina Jo Allen of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Mary Ann Thornton of Buffalo, and Diann Lynn Lowe of Red House; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; dear friends, Mar Pendleberry and Susan Thaxton.
A memorial service was held Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Highlawn Presbyteriasn Church with the Rev. Kristi Stone. Mrs. Lowe donated her body to medical science through the Human Gift Registry at WVU Medical Center School of Medicine. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, Highlawn Presbyterian Church or the American Diabetes Association.

Della Rosemary Walker
Della Rosemary Walker, 60, of Scott Depot, formerly of St. Albans, died M arch 25, 2002, at home after a long illness.
Della was a member of Washington Street Church of Christ, St. Albans.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Juanita Johnson, one son, James Cooper, and one sister, Barbara Coley.
Surviving: husband, Dallas Walker; daughters, Myrna Sherrouse of Tampa, Florida, Melissa Robinette of Richmond, Virginia, and Fonda Myers of Red House; sons, Robert Kennedy of Winchester, Virginia and James Scott Kennedy of St. Albans; sisters, Loretta Green of Dawes, June Stanley of Michigan, Shirley Snodgreas of Winifrede, and Brenda Goode of Clendenin; brothers, Richard Cooper of Chesapeake and David Cooper of Teays Valley.
Service was held Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Nola Fay Fisher
Nola Fay Casto Fisher, 82, of Paradise died March 27, 2002, after a short illness.
She was a member of Wade Chapel United Methodist Church, Red House, a former member of West Virginia University Farm Women's Club and a homemaker.
Surviving: husband of 59 years, Maxil V. Fisher; son, James C. Fisher of Paradise; grandchildren, Angela Beller of Geldersheim, Germany, Mary King of Red House, and James A. Fisher of Paradise; four great-grandchildren; twin sister, Lola M. Warner of Eleanor; stepsister, Elizabeth Frye of Wardensville; sister-in-law, Ardella Casto of Cross lanes.
Service was held Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Wade Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Lanham and the Rev. Nyle Fisher officiating. Burial was in Emma Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Liberty. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Walter C. Rhodes
Walter C. Rhodes, 66, of Hometown died March 26, 2002.
Service was held Friday, March 29, 2002, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca.
