Sharon S. Painter
Sharon S. Hull Painter, 48, of Buffalo died March 26, 2002 at her home.
She was born October 12, 1953 to the late William and Louise Martin Hull. She was an employee of RUS of Eleanor.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Auna Painter; daughter, Susan Painter; brother, Robert Hull; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Fred Williams; nephew, Steve Williams; two beautiful granddaughters, Madison Leigh Wagner and Brookelyn Leigh Painter, all of Buffalo; numerous close friends and extended family members.
Memorial service was held Friday, March 29, 2002, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Cemetery, Red House.

Harvey C. McDowell
Harvey C. McDowell, 87, of Hurricane died March 27, 2002.
He was owner and operator of McDowell Lumber, a retired school bus driver, member of Adda Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Hurricane.
Surviving: wife, Dolly; son, Buford and his wife, Phyllis of Winter Park, Florida; daughters, Nancy Smith and her husband, Richard and Pam Chapman and her husband, Roger, all of Hurricane; five grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Adda Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Moses officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas E. Foxworth Sr.
Thomas Edward Foxworth Sr., 86, of Hurricane, formerly of the Outer Banks, North Carolina, died Friday, March 29, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was an elder, deacon and treasurer of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, a World War II Army veteran, member of the VFW post in Winfield, and a member of the American Legion Post. He was an employee of Norfolk Shipyards.
Surviving: wife, Dorothy P. Foxworth; son, Thomas Edward Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Hurricane; daughter, Dorothy Jean and her husband, William J. Schild of Wilmington, North Carolina; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services were held in Portsmouth, Virginia. Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be sent to Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, PO Box 100, Scott Depot WV 25560.

Raymond C. Oxley
Raymond Creed Oxley, 88, of Hurricane died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He retired from Union Carbide after 31 years of service. He attended Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church, Cross Lanes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Edwards Oxley, and a son, Alton R. Oxley.
Surviving: son, Clifford W. Oxley of Culloden; daughter, Verna Tarkington of Yardley, Pennsylvania; brothers, Bernard Oxley of Hurricane, Leonard Thornton of Crystal River, Florida, and Howard Thornton of Franklin, Ohio; sisters, Edith Johnson of Middletown, Ohio and Catherine Coyner of Beverly Hills, Florida; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Service was held Monday, April 1, 2002, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Elder Veldon Linn and Elder Willard Bird officiating. Burial was in Bird Cemetery, Hurricane.

Mary Bukovinsky
Mary Bukovinsky, 90, of Hurricane died March 29, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Nitro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve L. Bukovinsky, who died in 1983.
Surviving: sons, Stephen Bukovinsky and Franklin Bukovinsky, both of Charleston, and Dr. Charles Bukovinsky of Hurricane; daughter, Stephanie Bruni of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Sophie Ellis and Florence Shuma, both of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
A private family service was held Monday, April 1, 2002, at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with the Rev. Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. The family suggests donations to a charity of choice.

James I. Coleman
James I. Coleman of Lancaster, Ohio, formerly of Liberty, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home #1.
He was retired from Lancaster Glass Corp. with 28 years of service and had worked for Dunbar Glass in West Virginia. He was a member of Dumontville United Methodist Chruch, Dunmiontville, Ohio, and Olivedale Senior Citizens Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Matilda Coleman, four brothers and a sister.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Ellen Coleman of Lancaster; sisters and brother-in-law, Nina Smith of Virgie, Kentucky, Dovie Gibson of Nitro, Opal and Delbert Null of Lancaster, and Ada Coleman of Eleanor; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Esther Coleman of Liberty; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Service was held Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Arliss Blackshire officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Given. Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster and Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, were in charge of arrangements.

Billy M. Fulks
Billy M. Fulks, 72, of Culloden passed away Friday, March 29, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at Heck Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. He was born September 16, 1929, in Huntington, a son of the late Sam E. and Agnes M. Fulks. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine C. Fulks and one son, Robert Cowie. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a purple heart and bronze star recipient. He was an engineer for CSX with 45 years of service. He was also a member of American Legion Post 139, Milton. He is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Fulks of Santa Monica, Calif., Mary Alexander of Proctorville, Ohio, and Carol Johnson of Milton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bill and Cheryl Cowie of Milton and Billy Fulks of Culloden; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Military graveside rites were conducted by American Legion Post 139, Milton.

Cornes W. “Charles” Gibson
Cornes W. “Charles” Gibson, 72, of Salt Rock, W.Va., passed away Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 1, 2002, at Salem United Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Perry and Rev. Carlos Gibson. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. He was born May 27, 1929, in Cabell County, a son of the late Albert R. and Lucy Cremeans Gibson. He was a retired 20 year veteran from the U.S. Air Force, a long-standing member of Salem United Baptist Church, lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the Gibson Quartet for countless years, having serviced numerous churches in the tri-state area. He was also active in community youth organizations throughout his life. He hoped that he has been an inspiration to someone he has met along his journey. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Wilford Gibson. He is survived by his wife and companion, Evelyn Gue Gibson, and he was father of Deborah Goldwasser of New York, Gregory A. Gibson of California and Sandra L. Landes of Salt Rock; grandfather of Erik Berean and Kevin Berean, both of New York, Candice Kelso of Virginia, Ryan Gibson and Monica Gibson both of California, and Joseph Landes of West Virginia; step grandfather of David Goldwasser, Jennifer Goldwasser and Daniel Goldwasser, all of New York; and great-grandfather of Charles Steven Gibson of California. Also surviving are three sisters, Goldie Childers of Branchland, Juanita Ferguson of Huntington and Mona Chaffee of Michigan; four brothers, Lovell Gibson of Salt Rock, Rev. Edsel Gibson of Branchland, Rev. Carlos Gibson of Huntington and Michael Gibson of Kenova, as well as other cherished family members too numerous to mention.
Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Baptist Church, Hospice of Lincoln County or the American Cancer Society. Military graveside services were conducted by the VFW Post 9738, Huntington.

Chessie Oweda Johnson Jackson
Chessie Oweda Johnson Jackson, 97, of Milton went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Jackie Clark and the Rev. Chuck Elkins officiating. Burial in Zoar Cemetery, Milton. She was born March 26, 1905, a daughter of the late Bennett Clay and Elema Ball Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Eli Azzor Jackson; one daughter, Lucy Evelyn Jackson; and one grandson, Darrell Stratton. She was the oldest living member of Zoar Baptist Church having been a member since 1939. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Opal and Virgil Stratton of Milton; and five sons and three daughters-in-law, Henry H. Jackson of Huntington, Guster and Mildred Jackson, Benjamin and Judy Jackson, Willard and Carolyn Jackson, and Eli Jackson Jr., all of Milton; one sister, Florence Carter of Culloden; five grandchildren, Michael Stratton, Penny Clark, Peggy Setliff, Eddie Jackson, Kim Jackson; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Darrell Jr., Jamie, Seth, Grant, Shannon, Misty, Michael, Tessa, Anthony, Deanna, Nicole, Orin, Chyenne; and a special friend, Arbra Beckelhimer. A special thanks to the staff of Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Macil S. Litton Handley
Macil S. Litton Handley, 89, of Culloden, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the home of Vena Kincaid, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. James B. Legg officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born November 23, 1912, in Hurricane, a daughter of the late Oscar J. and Cora Litton. She was a member of the Culloden Missionary Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford R. Handley on December 5, 1984, and one grandson, David M. Gibson on July 28, 2001; two sisters, Inez Stephenson and Evelyn Hope Litton; two brothers, Otmer Litton, and Esmond Litton. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Margaret Louise and Troy Reese Jr., and Betty Jo and Don Ellerbrock; five grandchildren, Donna Russell, DiAnn Stark, Ronald Joe Gibson and Brenda Burden; nine great-grandchildren, Brian Russell, Stephanie Russell, Timmy Stark, Jared Stark, Brandon Gibson, Kristi Gibson, Jenni Gibson, Joey Burden and Jamie Burden; and two brothers, Ernest Litton and Billy Litton.

Mae Sovine Kinnard
Loving mother, wife and grandmother and devoted Christian, Mae Sovine Kinnard, 75, of Parkersburg, formerly of Culloden, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 26, 20O2 in Camden Clark Hospital, Parkersburg. Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 29, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Richard Black officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born September 21, 1926, in Hurricane, W.Va., a daughter of the late Andrew McKinley and Cora Martin Sovine. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Lee Creek. She was retired from Morris Memorial Nursing Home. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Cleveland Kinnard. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry C. and Mary Kinnard of Culloden; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dorothy and Larry of Williamstown, W.Va., and Kimberly Dianne Kinnard of Parkersburg. W.Va.; one brother, the Rev. Ray Sovine of Hurricane; four grandchildren and their spouses, Debora and Dave McKenna, Lisa and Danny Frye, Randy and Lisa Kinnard and Shawn and Amanda Kinnard; and five great-grandchildren, David McKenna, Derek McKenna, Joshua Frye, Brandy Kinnard and Kenneth Scott Kinnard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the March of Danes.

Lois M. Porter
Lois M. Porter, 81, of Milton died Friday, March 22, 2002 at home. Lois was a former Licensed Practical Nurse with St. Mary's Hospital. Upon retiring, Lois volunteered at ECCHO and for the Milton Womans Club doing blood pressure readings. Lois was a faithful member of Milton Baptist Church. Lois was a very special person and will be sadly missed by her many friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park.

Clarence “Joe” Alberts
Clarence “Joe” Alberts, 85, of Barboursville, widower of Verna Pinkerton Alberts, died Sunday, March 24, 2002 in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio. Survivors include one son, Larry Edwards Alberts of McDonough, Ga.; and two daughters, Janet Bowen and Carolyn Stephens Allen, both of Proctorville, Ohio. Graveside service was held Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Miller Memorial Gardens, Ohio. Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio.

Lena D. Reynolds
Lena D. Reynolds, 84, of Ona, W.Va., passed away Monday, March 25, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane. She was born September 8, 1917, in Milton a daughter of the late Robert and Essie Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert LeRoy Reynolds; one son James Landon Reynolds; and one daughter, Janet Charlene Adkins. She is survived by three grandchildren, Gregory Adkins, Jan Kirk and Rhonda McComas, all of Ona; eight great-grandchildren, Racheal, Natalie, Caitlyn, Sarah, Eric, Jonathan Natosha and Corey. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.
