John William Edwards “Ed” Coleman, 78, of Hurricane died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital.
He was a former president of Machinery Inc. and “mayor” of Show Boat Marina in Huntington.
Surviving: son, Michael Coleman and wife Mimi of Hurricane; brothers, Malcolm Coleman of Nitro and Isaac Coleman of Salt Rock; sisters, Virginia Medley Munson of Grottoes, Virginia, Mary Lou Bennington of Charleston and Betty An Stump of South Charleston; grandchildren, Gregory Coleman, Michele Detwiler and Kristy Coleman.
Service was held Friday, May 24, 2002, at Hafer Funeral Home Chapel, Elkview, with the Rev. James A. Gunnoe officiating. Entombment was in Elk Hills Memorial Mausoleum, Big Chimney.

Roy Carl Hawkins
Roy Carl Hawkins, 88, of Red House died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at home following a long illness.
He was born in Harmony, Roane County, and served in the C.C.C. in the 1930s. He was a retired shipping foreman for Union Carbide Institute Plant with 33 years of service and a member of the Shiloah Church, Red House, where over the years he served as trustee, Sunday school superintendent and treasurer.
Surviving: wife, Helen Covert Hawkins; daughter, Carol Hartley of Red House; son, Donald Hawkins of red House; sisters, Ezzle Hardman of Red House an Cora Grant of Baltimore; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, may 24, 2002, at the Shiloah Church, Red House, with the Rev. Jackie Clark officiating. Burial was in Shiloah Cemetery. Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Norma Louise Bosworth Hamlin
Norma Louise Bosworth Hamlin, 72, of Barboursville died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at her home. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church by Pastor David Lemming. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. She was born December 10, 1929, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Raymond M. and Elizabeth Noe Bosworth. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Louise Hamlin. She was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church and was active in volunteer work, where she served on the Board of Prestera Mental Health Clinic, the Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital and NAMI, before her illness. She is survived by her beloved husband of forty-nine years, Alford Hamlin; two daughters, Janice McClung of Alderson, W.Va., and Diane Parks of Victorville, Calif.; one brother, Ray Bosworth of Santa Barbara, Calif.; one sister, Alma Reeder of Ventura, Calif.; a close nephew, Bob Barnette of Santa Barbara, Calif.; three grandsons, Ryan Hamlin of Versailles, Ky., Jimmy Lee Stevens of Barboursville and Gary Sharkey of South Point, Ohio; and one great-grandson, Kyle Hamlin. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Earl Eller
Kenneth Earl Eller, 55, of Barboursville, W.Va., formerly of Seattle, Wash., died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the home of his brother after a long illness. He was born October 3, 1946, in Beckley, W.Va. Kenneth was retired from the U.S. Air Force and was currently employed by Boeing Aircraft as a Flight Engineer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Johns Eller. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Miskel and Charlotte Eller of Barboursville; his stepfather, Robert W. Ray of Huntington; a daughter, Melissa Eller of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sons, Chris Eller and Shawn Eller, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Robin Wilson of Wayne, W.Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Renee Eller of Barboursville and several loving nieces and nephews. Carroll “Steve” Stevens
Carroll “Steve” Stevens, 71, of Lesage, WV, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services wiere held Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Beard Mortuary with the Rev. Kermit Taylor officiating. Burial in White Memorial Gardens. Military graveside rites were conducted by VFW Post 9738. He was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Cabell County, W.Va., a son of the late James Alva and Ella Hash Stevens. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Delores Loretta Basenback Stevens; a sister, Marguerite Jordan; and a brother, Frances Stevens. He was a retired truck driver. He was a veteran of the Air Force, serving in the 538th Fighter Squadron as a mechanic during the Korean War. Steve is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and David Pollock of Proctorville, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Pam Stevens of Sanford, Fla., and Kenneth Howard and Joan Ward of Whitesburg, Ga.; four grandchildren, James Stevens of Huntington, Shane Brewer and wife, Tina, of Chesapeake, Ohio, Kacey Watson and husband, Danny, of Huntington and Kristi Ward of Huntington; six great grandchildren Josh Cobble, Kayla Ward, Brandon Watson, Haley Ward, Hunter Ward and Haydyn Farnsworth is also survived by a brother, Clyde Stevens of Huntington and two special friends, Roy Brown of Buffalo, W.Va., and Jim Ross of Barboursville, W.Va. Elaine G. Thomas
Elaine G. Thomas, 34, of Hurricane died May 12, 2002, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
She attended Stonewall Jackson High School, graduated from West Virginia Career College, was retired from AT&T, a representative for Mary Kay Cosmetics and was active in Teays Valley area Cub Scouts. She attended Starcher Baptist and Emmanuel Baptist churches.
Surviving: husband, E. Frank Thomas of Hurricane; son, E. Zachary Thomas, at home; stepdaughter, Krista Nichole Thomas of Cross Lanes; father and stepmother, Jerry T. and Anna Bess of Campbells Creek; brothers, Randy Bess of Pittsburgh and Adam Melton of Charleston; aunt, Janet Griffith Campbell; nephews, Alan Bess of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jeremy Bess of Charleston; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Katherine Thomas of Bakersfield, California; sisters-in-law, Jonie Bess of Charleston and Shirley Ann Thomas of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; first cousins, Karen, Vicki and Rob Campbell.
Service was held Friday, May 17, 2002, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Ron Stoner officiating. Burial was in Floral Hills Gardens of Memories, Pocatalico.

Elton T. Maddox
Elton T. Maddox, 77, of Scott Depot died May 15, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
He was retired from the Putnam County Board of Education where he was a bus driver for 22 years. He was formerly the operator and owner of Maddox Dairy, a member of Judson Baptist Church, Winfield, a member of Nitro Moose and Teays Valley Roadrunners Camping Club. He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Gibson Maddox, and his son, William Howard Maddox.
Surviving: daughter, Brenda West of Scott Depot; granddaughter, Lisa West of Columbus, Ohio; grandson, Christopher West of Scott Depot; great-granddaughter, Sierra Paxton of Nitro.
Service was Saturday, May 18, 2002, Judson Baptist Church with Rev. Fred McCallister and Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen M. Graley
Helen Margaret Graley, 78, of Winfield died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a homemaker. She attended Church of God and was a member of the WCG. She was the first female Transit Bus Driver in the late ’40s and early ’50s, traveling from St. Albans to Pt. Pleasant.
She was born in Boone County, the daughter of the late Charles Edward Richard and Lillian Virginia Frances Elkins Richard. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles H. Graley, brothers, Charles Lindburg and Paul Cameron Richard, and two grandchildren.
Surviving: husband, Emory H. Graley; daughters, Midge Ball, Doris Moore and Becky Foster, all of Winfield; sons, Charles H. Graley of St. Albans and Emory H. “JR” Graley of Alum Creek; sisters, Mary “Hearts” Graybeal of Cookeville, Tennessee, Nadine Stone of Marmet, Lena Jo Sadler of East Bank, Jerrie Elnora Wymer of Hurricane, Carol Miller of Lumber Bridge, North Carolina, and Kay Lyttle of Marmet; brothers, Carson Richard of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Clyde Richard of Norfolk, Virginia, and Cornelius Richard of Livingston, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, May 17, 2002, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Gary Hale and Rev. Ezra Graley officiating. Burial was in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco.

Hassel Shannon Wheeler
Hassel Shannon Wheeler, 90, of Hurricane died May 15, 2002, at home after a short illness.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane, where he served as an usher and deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Wheeler.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Wayne Lewis of Hurricane two grandchildren, Chris Lewis of Hurricane, Erik and his wife, Anna Beth, Lewis of Columbus, Ohio; one great-grandchild, Claire Elizabeth Lewis of Columbus; sister, Irma Miller of Hurricane; niece, Alice Rumbaugh of Obrien, Florida.
Service was held Saturday, May 18, 2002, at First Baptist Church of Hurricane with Mr. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Memorial donations are requested to First Baptist Church of Hurricane.

Elmer Blackburn White
Elmer Blackburn White, 85, of Salt Rock, W.Va., passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born March 2, 1917, in Cabell County, a son of the late Ballard and Hettie Stone White. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred White and two brothers, Opie and Clinton White. He was a retired finisher with Blenko Glass, with 42 years of service, and a farmer. He was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Church of Hurricane for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Dahlia Beckett White of Salt Rock; a daughter, Barbara Kay Blankenship of Salt Rock; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy Roger and Rita White of Little Rock, Ark.; four grandchildren, Sherri Legg and her husband, Bobby, Cheryl Kane and her husband, Jim, and Shelley White and Cassie White, both of Arkansas; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Moss White of Florida, Naaman White of Milton and James White of Marietta. Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, 2002, at Beard Mortuary with Dr. Terrell Bradley officiating. Interment in White Chapel Memorial Park. Denver Austin Meadows, 81, of Milton, husband of Myrtle Hanks Meadows, died Saturday, May 18, 2002 in VA Hospital, Huntington. Also surviving are 12 daughters, Nola Jean Hayes of Glenwood, Joyce Ann Smith, Gretchen Ann Meadows and Rebecca Lynn Meadows, both of Indiana, Brenda Sue Pratt of Florida, Erma Dean Hatfield, Deborah Bernice Clagg and Arlene Sadler of Milton, Susan Mae Porter of Alabama, Almeda Hayes of North Carolina, Anna Lee Enyart of Barboursville and Shiela Delane Vanorden of New Jersey; five sons, Curtis J. Meadows of New Jersey, Michael Austin Meadows and Dwayne Paul Meadows of Indiana, Gregory Meadows of Milton and Bruce Allen Meadows of Glenwood; two brothers, Lee Meadows of Huntington and Delbert Meadows of Indiana; and four sisters, Betty Neisess of Chesapeake, Ohio, Elta Mae Eckman of Lake Wales, Fla., and Thelma Allen and Martha Glover, both of Milton. Nola Jean Browning
Nola Jean Browning, 54, of Milton, W.Va. passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor Keith Leap. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. She was born June 25, 1947, in Landville, WV, a daughter of Geraldine Jackson Haney of Summersville, W.Va., and the late Adolphus Haney Sr. She was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church. Also surviving are her husband, Bernard Browning; two daughters, Amy Edison of Midlothian, Va., and Shannon Browning of Huntington: two sisters, Susan Lowe of Manassas, Va. and Billie Jo Lowe of Gilbert; two brothers, Adolphus Haney Jr. and Carson Haney, both of Summersville, WV; and one granddaughter, Victoria Edison.

David Jonathan Blake
David Jonathan Blake, 35, of Barboursville, WV, graduated from this life into life eternal Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Larry Albright officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born April 6, 1967 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of Robert Larry and Diann Hagley Blake of Barboursville. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Sadie Hagley. He attended Green Acres Regional Center for 29 years. In addition to his parents, survivors include: his paternal grandparents, Milton and Roberta Blake, of Barboursville; uncles and aunts, Edward and Donna Adkins of Branchland, W.Va., Richard and Dorla Sowards of North Carolina and Richard and Sarah Blake of Huntington; several cousins; and many special friends. Hariam Lee “Herman” Lester
Hariam Lee “Herman” Lester, 66, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2002 at his home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 18, 2002 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel Barboursville, by Brother Delmar Adkins and Brother Emuel Adkins and the Gospel Heritage Quartet. Graveside services were conducted Saturday, May 18, 2002 at the Christian and Bailey Cemetery in Ikes Fork W.Va. He was born July 31, 1935 in Wayne County, a son of Lucinda Mills Lester of Barboursville and the late Wetzel Lester, Sr. He was a building contractor. He was a member of the Fifth Ave. Freewill Baptist Church and attended Bowen Ridge Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charley Lester. He is survived by his wife, Veta Lester; one daughter, Mrs. Patrick Buskirk (Lynn) of Huntington and one son, Robert Morgan of Huntington; five brothers, Wetzel Lester Jr., Ottie Herbert Lester and Roger Whitt Lester, all of Huntington, Thurman Lester of Columbus, Ohio, and Lonnie Dale Lester of Culloden; three sisters, Tennessee Farley of Barboursville, Stella Holley of Lesage and Norma Godfrey of Lorraine, Ohio; special sister-in-law, Dorothy Lester; a special grandson, Blake Morgan of Logan; a special mother-in-law, Alpha Riffe of Hanover, W.Va; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Dale Ramey, Randy Lester, Patrick Buskirk, Wendell Adkins, Jason Adkins, Ronnie McCellan, Dr. Todd Lester and Tyler Lester and honorary pallbearer Blake Morgan. Pauline Ross Carson
Pauline Ross Carson, 65, of Huntington went to be with the Lord and her loving husband, Thursday, May 16, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 18, 2002 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. She was born Jan. 11, 1937 in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Virgil Owen and Loretta Sawyers Ross. She was also preceded in death by her husband Clifford Carson Sr., one daughter, Angela Christine Gue, two grandchildren, Carl Gue and Christina Gue, three sisters and two brothers. She was a former employee of Cabell Huntington Hospital. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Poncho McComas of Huntington; three sons and daughters-in-law, Shannon and Janet Carson of Huntington, Herbert and Phyllis Carson of Lynchburg, Va., and Terry and Dreama Carson of Toledo, Ohio; one sister, Lucille Wheeler of Chesapeake, Ohio; 19 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; six close nieces and nephews, Lisa, Bobby, Donny, Denise, Gary and Kendall, and several other nieces and nephews. Lula Katherine Layne Beckett, 63, of Culloden, left this world to be with her savior on Wednesday, May 15, 2002. Funeral services were conducted May 17, 2002 at Milton United Methodist Church, Milton, with the Rev. Keith Leap officiating. Entombment in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. She was the daughter of Mayoma Turley and Harry James Layne of Charleston, W.Va. She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sesilia Riley of Culloden, Terry and Mark Cole of Ona, Jeanie and Keith Henson of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Evelyn and Michael Hyland, of Goldsboro, NC. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Maxine Cummings of Marmet, Barbarine Frye of Redlands, Calif., Lucille Fetherson of Nitro, Evelyn Taylor of Charleston, Edward Layne of Alum Creek, Harry Layne of Orwell, Ohio, and Lois Jean Walker of Nitro; Six grandchildren, Corey, Kristy, Zachary, Jason, Jennifer and Michael. C. Randal Sullivan
C. Randal Sullivan, 46, of Ona, W.Va, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home with the Rev. Cleo Watson and Minister Don Napier officiating. Burial in Harveytown Cemetery, Huntington. He was born July 7, 1955 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of Erma C. Byrd Sullivan of Huntington and the late Robert G. Sullivan. He was a bakery manager with Big Bear Plus in Ceredo where he was employed for 26 years. Randy enjoyed bicycling, golf, hiking and travel. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Katherine M. Rowley Sullivan; one daughter, Jill Sullivan of Wheelersburg, Ohio; two sons, Lindy Sullivan of Norfolk, Va., and Ryan M. Sullivan at home; and one brother, John R. Sullivan of South Point Ohio. Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Olive Marie Becker
Olive Marie Becker, 89, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at Heartland of Riverview. Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 17, 20O2 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel Barboursville, by the Rev. Scott Seckman and the Rev. Richard Black. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born June 27, 1912, in Mingo County, a daughter of the late Wallace Evans and Janie Vance Evans Marcum. She was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Glenn; one daughter, Laura Alberta Spears; one son-in-law, Robert C. Spears; one grandson, Matthew Spears; one great-granddaughter, Justina Marie Smith; two brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha Lynn Stark and Charlena Mae and Gene Smith all of Barboursville, and Myrtle Virginia and James Bailey of Loris, S.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles M. and Patricia Becker of Mitchell, Ark; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Lewis Nelson of Lavalette; grandchildren, Andrew Stark II, Rebecca Smith, Phillip Smith, Nancy Pollard, Karen Clark, Cathy Gore, Janice Seckman, Christopher and Michael Becker, Jeff and Rob Spears, Deborah Walls and Cheryl Harper; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many special friends, including Deanna Scragg and Virginia Casto.

Rev. Clyde Huffman
Rev. Clyde Huffman, 87, of Pecks Mill, husband of Earnestine Huffman, died Friday, May 10, 2002 in Logan Park Care Center after a long illness. He was a minister. Area survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Robinson of Barboursville; two sisters, Mildred Childers of Pecks Mill and Hazel Elam of Switzer; two grandsons, Todd and Dwayne Jimison, both of Barboursville; and a great-grandson Taylor Jimison of Barboursville. Graveside service was held Sunday, May 19, 2002 in Highland Memory Gardens, Pecks Mill. Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, was in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Lunsford Navy
Thelma Lunsford Navy, of Milton, W.Va., formerly of Huntington passed away at home Wednesday, May 15, 2002, after a 5-month illness. Funeral services were held Friday, May 17, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Dr. Terrell Bradley officiating. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park Huntington. Thelma was a 50-year member of Highlawn Baptist Church. She was born Aug. 23, 1909, in Milton, a daughter of the late William A. and Emma Conner Lunsford. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Navy; two sisters, Hattie Rowsey and Ollie Edmunds; and four brothers, Dink, Clovis, Claude and Woody Lunsford. Thelma is survived by one sister, Ernestine Mullins of Bidwell, Ohio; two brothers, William A. Lunsford of Syracuse, N.Y., and Merrill C. Lunsford of Milton; and several nieces and nephews who loved her very much.

Elva Evelyn Cochran
Elva Evelyn Cochran, 80, of Barboursville, W.Va., left us to be with the Lord on May 11, 2002, at Chateau Grove Personal Care Home. She was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Joseph Mayo Sr. and Anna May Fuller Mayo, also of Wayne County. A survivor of polio, Evelyn graduated from Buffalo High School at the age of 15 and then went on to graduate from the Wiseman Business College of Huntington. After working for National Mattress for 25 years where she was general manager, Evelyn went on to create, own and operate Imperial Bedding Co. of Huntington in October of 1969, giving her the infamous nickname of the “Queen of Bedding.” Evelyn was a lifelong Christian and an affiliate of Roach Baptist Church in Salt Rock, W.Va. Evelyn is survived by daughter, Carolyn Sue Rowe, and son and daughter-in-law, James Ronald and Loretta Rowe; grandchildren, Pamela Frye, David Frye, Brett Rowe, Brian Rowe, Christopher Whitney, Stacey Rowe Perry, Stephen Whitney, Suzanne Whitney Luck and Sommer Whitney; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; special friends, Nancy Clay, Mark and Annette Groves; and the dedicated and loving staff of Chateau Grove Personal Care Home. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Bill Cassidy and the Rev. Brad Toney. Burial in the family cemetery on Malcolm Road, Barboursville.
The family would like to thank St Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room Staff and 4 South Team 3 Staff for their exceptional care and compassion for Evelyn and the family during her hospital stay. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Huntington for their continued care after leaving the hospital.

Nellie Odessa Adkins Eplin
Nellie Odessa Adkins Eplin, 83, of Branchiand, W.Va., passed away May 12, 2002, at Teays Valley Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Zachary Bills. Burial in Family Memorial Gardens, Madison, W.Va. She was born Dec. 21, 1918, in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late William and Letha Sanders Ball. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Ollie Adkins and Elmer Eplin; three brothers, Charley, Herbert and Billy Ball Jr. She is survived by four sons, Donald Gene Adkins of Branchland, Richard Adkins of Nevada, Glenn Adkins of Columbus and Ollie Adkins Jr. of California; two sisters, Gladys Adkins of Toledo, Ohio, and Velva Roy of Brewster, Ohio; two brothers, Bennie Ball of Jeffrey, W.Va., and Harold Denver Ball of Branchland; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Isabelle Adkins
Isabelle Adkins, 89, of Wayne, W.Va, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel Barboursville, by the Rev. Truman and the Rev. Ray Adkins. Burial in the Adkins Family Cemetery. She was born Feb. 19, 1913, in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Will and Annie Booth Daniels. She was preceded in death by her husband, Presley G. “Babe” Adkins; one brother, Manford Daniels; three sisters, Nellie Webb, Irene Keesee and Dorothy Smith; one stepdaughter, Freda Gibson; and three stepsons, Carl Denver and Earl Adkins. She is survived by two daughters, Hester Greene of Jacksonville, Fla., and Annie Ratcliff of Culloden; one son and daughter-in-law, Willie Ray and Jo Ann Adkins of Wayne; a special daughter-in-law, Maxine Adkins; one stepson Charles “Junie” Adkins of Jeffersonville, N.C.; one sister, Ivy Webb; one brother, Bill Daniels, both of Circleville, Ohio; grandchildren, Isabelle Bowen and her husband, Roger, of Lavalette, Willie Ray Adkins Jr. and his wife, Gloria, of Wayne, Presley Cleo Adkins and his wife, Shelly, of Kenova, Fannie Jo Bias and her husband, Larry, of Wayne, Joy R Fortner and her husband, Earl, of Huntington and Suzy Kelly; great-grandchildren, Anndrea Rae Ferguson and her husband, Scott, of Wayne, Gregory Allen Trogdon Jr., Daniel Lee Bowen, Jessica Marie Adkins, Brigitte Leann Adkins, Presley C. Adkins Jr., Cassandra D. “Cassie” Adkins, Willie Joe Bias and Larry Ray Bias; one great-great-grandchild, Ashton Nichole Ferguson and many other family members, friends and loved ones; and her very special little dog, “Josie.”

Margaret A. Carter
Margaret A. “Sue” Carter, 56, of Scott Depot died May 6, 2002, at home after a long illness.
She was a Baptist and was retired from Union Carbide Tech Center after 23 years of service as an environmental technician.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and Wayne Rumbaugh.
Surviving: husband, Gibbie Carter of Scott Depot; brothers, Thomas Rumbaugh of Hurricane and Robert Rumbaugh of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Jean Sigmond of Akron, Ohio, Nancy Smith of Winifrede, and Barbara Rumbaugh of Charleston; her beloved dog, Millie.
Service was held Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Fred Christian officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens at a later date.

Donald D. Casto
Donald D. Casto, 66, of Leon died May 5, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio.
He was the son of the late Fred and Hazel Hulbert Casto and was also preceded in death by his sister, Norma Smith.
He was a retired operator for AVTEX Fibers in Nitro, and had enjoyed many years of farming.
Surviving: wife, Frances Coleman Casto; children, Betty Matheny of Leon and Ronald Casto of Red House; grandchildren, Amy Clark, Chad Casto and Justin Matheny; great-granddaughter, Vanessa Clark; brothers, Arden and Fredrick Casto, both of Buffalo; sister, Doris Jividen of Wheelersburg, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Paul Arthur officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Edna M. Peiffer
Edna M. Peiffer, 84, of Scott Depot died May 5, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital.
She was a retired employee of the state of Ohio and was a former civilian employee of the War Department during the later years of World War II. She was a member of The Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane, and was a resident of the St. Albans-Teays Valley area for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J., and her parents, Frank and Julieanna Krones Erasim.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David W. Kimberling of Scott Depot; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce A. and Katharine B. Peiffer of Long Island, New York; grandchildren, Chris, Ashley and Beth Kimberling, all of Scott Depot.
Mass of Christian burial was held Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at The Catholic Church of the Ascension with Father Neil Buchlein as celebrant. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Marion Elizabeth Harper
Marion Elizabeth Harper, 79, of Scott Depot died May 6, 2002, at home after a long illness.
She was a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, where she was active with the OWLS senior group. She was a retired administrative assistant from AT&T, Charleston, with 25 years of service, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of American and a 40-year resident of Teays Valley.
Surviving: husband, Dallas M. Harper; daughter, Patti Harper Kazlo of Abingdon, Maryland; son, D. Montie Harper II of Richmond, Virginia; brothers, Donald Dickson of Charleston, Harry Dickson of St. Albans and W.A. Dickson of Duck; sister, Jeannette Ritz of Scott Depot; two grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. George Bendall and Dr. J.D. Harrah officiating. Entombment was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
