Peggy Jean Ashworth
Peggy jean Ashworth, 74, of St. Albans died Nov. 7, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Church of God, St. Albans. She 40 year resident of St. Albans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Ashworth; and son, James Michael Adkins.
She is survived by her stepson, Samuel Eugene Ashworth of St. Albans; stepdaughter, Louise Hutchinson of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Shirley Wallot of South Charleston, and Richard Wallot of Winfield; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 9, at Cunningham Memorial Park Lower Mausoleum, St. Albans. Burial followed in the mausoleum. Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans was in charge of arrangements.
Anna R. King
Anna Roberta Newman King, 82, of Nitro, formerly of Eleanor, WVa., died Nov. 6, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a short illness.
She was a retired LPN from Charleston GZÈeral Hospital, Charleston and worked as an LPN at Lakin State Hospital, Point Pleasant, WVa.
She received her LPN from Garnet Career College and attended Davis & Elkins College.
She was born in Matewan, WVa., on May 5, 1920, to the late William Reese and Arizona Harrison Milam Neal. She was a graduate of Poca High School, a member of Eleanor Presbyterian Church, Eleanor and attended Rebecca Chapel, Charleston, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 79.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Payton Lee Newman Jr. and Henry William King; and also son, Payton Lewis Newman III; sisters, Pearl Smith and Shirley Runyon; brothers, Homer, Albert, Woodrow, Dock and Harold Neal.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia L. and Russell W. McCarty of Hilliard, Ohio, Zona G. and James W. Cantley of Nitro; sons and daughters-in-law, William E. and Joan Newman of Titusville, Fla., Patrick L. and Flora Newman of San Diego, Calif.; son, Authur A. Newman of Nitro; brothers, Eugene L. Neal of Daniels, WVa., Willard R. Neal of Pineville, W.Va; sister-in-law, Christine Neal of Charleston; special caregivers, granddaughter and her husband, Carol L. and Thomas Nichols Jr. and great-granddaughters, Courtney and Chelsea Nichols, and great-grandson, Lucas Nichols; grandchildren, Russell and John McCarty, Robin Jasuta, Carol Nichols, Payton “Luigi” Newman IV, Heather Edwards, Cheryl Witherell, Stephanie Smoot, DeAnna Fierro, Sonia Dakahis, Kimberly Brown, William Newman II, Christopher Newman, Jason Newman, Authur Newman, Anna Newman, and Jennifer Newman; 20 great-grandchildren.

Emma Chancey O’Neill
Emma Chancey O’Neill, 85, of Cross Lanes died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Rose Griffith of Cross Lanes.
She was retired from Fletcher Enamel, Dunbar, and attended Poca Baptist Church, Poca. She was born Jan. 28, 1917, to John and Claudia Winter Chancey in Plum Orchard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barb Clayton O’Neill.
Surviving are her daughter, Rose Griffith of Cross Lanes; sons, William O’Neill and his wife, Jenny of St. Albans, Robert O’Neill and his wife, Cheryl of South Charleston; grandchildren, Lisa Griffith and husband Tim, of Nitro, Brian O’Neill and his wife, Judy of Nitro, Matthew O’Neil and his wife, Alisha of Sod, April O’Neill Brown and her husband, William of South Charleston; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Keaton Barnette of Nitro, Madison O’Neill of Nitro, Seth Brown of South Charleston.

Mildred L. Evans Stevens, 85, of Scott Depot, formerly of Pomeroy, Ohio, Charleston, St. Albans and Huntington, died Nov. 6, 2002, in Teays Valley Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born Nov. 3, 1917, in Pomeroy, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ray Ivan and Ethel Mae Evens; she was also preceded in death by sister, Phyllis Evans Given, Alice Mae Evans; brother, Ray Junior Evans; and former husband, William F. “Bill” Stevens.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Rosemary Stevens Shank and her husband, Ken of Scott Depot, Alexandra “Sandy” Evans-Stevens of Orlando, Fla.; sons, William R. “Bill” Stevens and his wife, Helen of Scott Depot, Michael R. Herbert Leo Eaton Jr.
Herbert Lee Eaton Jr., was born in Bluefield, W.V, on August 1, 1921, son of the late Herbert L. and Trula Ann Eaton, died November 6, 2002, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 9, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church Mr. Eaton served our country during World War II in the United States Navy. He was employed by Ensign Electric and Manufacturing Company, as well as Service Machine Company, serving as chairman of the board of directors after his retirement. He was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntington. Mr. Eaton was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Eaton. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Bratton Eaton, whom he was devoted to for 60 years; children, Richard and Robin Eaton of Jackson, Miss., Bob and Jean Sommerville of Richmond, Va., and Vern and Margaret Reichenbecher of Huntington; grandchildren, Laura and Bert Fulks, Leslie Cummings, John and J.J. Sommerville, Mary Margaret Sommerville, Ryan and Alan Eaton, Jenny and Becky Reichenbecher; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Katie Jo and Daniel Fulks; a brother, James Eaton of Battleground, Wash; and a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Tom Weatherford of Princeton, W.Va. Edna Louise Jordan, 92, of Milton passed away Thursday, November 7, 2002, in Chateau Grove, Barboursville, after a long illness. Funeral service were conducted Saturday, November 9, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Paul Meadows and the Rev Ted Nance officiating. Burial in Milton Cemetery. She was born October 15, 1910, in Quincey, W.Va, a daughter of the late Charles S. and Minnie Walker White. She was also preceded by her husband, Willard Francis Jordan. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Lower Creek United Methodist Church for 65 years. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Willard “C.W.” and Opal Jordan of Milton; one sister, Carrie Gay of Diamond, W.Va.; two brothers, Ralph “Doc” White of Diamond, W.Va., and Raymond White of Reed City, Mich.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Helen E. Hathaway
Helen Elizabeth Fink Hathaway, 82, of Milton went to be with her husband, Nov. 6, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Nov. 11, at Titusville Wesleyan Methodist Church, Titusville, Pa., with the Rev. Troy Muir officiating. Burial in Sugarbush Cemetery, Fink Ridge, Pa. Elizabeth was born April 19, 1920, in Centerville, Pa., a daughter of the late Matthew Washington and Helen Morris Fink. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Andy Hathaway; one son, Richard Paul Hathaway; one brother, Hugh David Fink. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Titusville Wesleyan Methodist Church and faithfully attended Grace Wesleyan Church, Culloden, W.Va., for the past eight years. She is survived by eight children, John Edward of Milton, Eunice Carol Adkins of South Point, Ohio, Ruth Evangeline McCammon of Titusville, David Wesley of Pittsburgh, Pa., Alice Rebecca Pyle of Oil City, Pa., Robert Calvin of Little Rock, Ark., Dorothea Marie of Charleston, WVa., and Elizabeth Ann Tunseeprasert of Spotsylvania, Va.; one brother, Robert Fink of Townville, Pa.; one sister, Louise Belnap of Meadville, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Nell M. “Ninnie” Baumgardner, 91, of Barboursville, widow of Lee W. Baumgardner, died Sunday, November 3, 2002, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Ed Grant and the Rev. Ralph Sager. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born November 14, 1910, in Carter County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late James Luther and Sarah Alice Counts McKee. Nell retired as supervisor of the Pilgrim Laundry in Huntington. She was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church of Barboursville. She was preceded in death by a son H.C. “Bill” Morrison; a son-in-law, Linley J. Walters; a stepson and his spouse, Richard and Carol Baumgardner; a sister, Maude McKee; and four brothers, Howard. F.F. “Tub”, J.A. “Jack” and Raymond McKee. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Morrison Walters, with whom she made her home; four grandchildren and spouses, Linda and Rodney Post, Jack and Sue Walters, Peggy and Gary Kennedy and Angela Morrison, all of Barboursville; a step-granddaughter and spouse, Kim and Jim Wharton of Tipp City, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two foster sisters, Margaret Kitchen of Barboursville and Judy Wingert Martin of Titusville, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Lennie Bledsoe Baumgardner and Elizabeth Roberta “Bob” Baumgardner Hibner. and a special niece and great-nephew, Christie McKee O’Bryan and Cory O’Bryan of Barboursville. Jerry Ray Coburn
Jerry Ray Coburn, 60, of Barboursville, husband of Elizabeth Elliott Hardesty Coburn, died Sunday, November 3, 2002 in St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was a nurse assistant at the VA Medical Center. Also surviving are stepdaughter Sherri Ritter of Dunbar; stepsons Ray Hardesty of Huntington, Tony Hardesty of Barboursville and Gregory Hardesty of Tampla, Fla.; sisters Ann Wiley of Harts Creek, Nancy Toppins of Gainesville, Fla. and Sue Adkins of Big Ugly; and brothers Arthur “Doc” Coburn of Branchland and Brady Coburn of Cove Creek. Graveside service was held Thursday, November 7, 2002 at Sol Perry Cemetery. Morris Funeral Home, Wayne was in charge of arrangements.
Halcie Carole Lucas Markins
Halcie Carole Lucas Markins of Lexington, Ky, formerly of Huntington, passed away November 2, 2002, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She was born December 25, 1913, in Ranger, W.Va., the daughter of the late William R. and Mary Sias Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Melvin Markins in December, 1980; a daughter, Phyllis Jean Watts; a brother, Lloyd Lucas and a sister, Hazel Scott. She started her church membership at Bethesda Methodist Church, Milton W.Va., then was a member for many years of Susannah Baptist Church, Ona, W.Va. There, she served as a Sunday School teacher, pianist and custodian. After the death of her husband, she joined Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and was very active with the senior group, Dynamic Adults. She was also a member of Eastern Star #8, a literacy teacher, the Women Republican Group, the H.O.P.E. Group, A.B.W. and she served as chairperson of Circle 12. Being an avid doll collector, she was a member and past president of the Jewel Doll Club. Surviving are two children, a son, William “Bill” and Emma Markins of New Braunfels, Texas, and a daughter, Constance “Connie” and Larry Nicholas of Lexington, Ky. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Greg and Patty Sager, Barboursville, W.Va., Dawn and Kenny Lake, Barboursville, W.Va., Steven and Karen Markins, Austin, Texas, Christa and Danny Ploch, San Antonio, Texas, and Nicole and Ralph Edmond Chelvarajan, Lexington, Ky. She also left seven great-grandchildren. The family wants to thank some very special people, Marsezeue Davis, Delthea Hayes, Pat Hines and Betty Donaldson who provided many hours of support and care.

Warren H. Kincaid
Warren Howard Kincaid, 89, a resident of Regency Place, Scott Depot, formerly of Hansford, died October 27, 2002, in CAMC General Hospital after a short illness.
He was born September 5, 1913, a son of the late Emory Dale and Clara Matics Kincaid. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bowers Kincaid, sister, Margaret Kincaid Atkins, and brother, Ray Kincaid.
He was an Episcopalian, a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Hansford, where he served as a lay reader, warden and vestryman. He was a graduate of Gauley Bridge High School and attended New River State College, now the WVU Institute of Technology. He was retired Union Carbide, Alloy. He was a past master of Coal Valley Lodge 74, Montgomery. He was also a member of Rouyal Arch Masons Montgomery Chapter 47 and Order of the Eastern Star Kanawha Cahpter 38.
Surviving: children, Brenda Kincaid Beatty of St. Albans and Michael James Kincaid Henry of Geneva, Florida; grandchildren, William and Edward Mucklow, Melissa Randall, Erin Simpson, and Oliver Henry; great-grandson, Richard Mucklow; three newphews and two nieces.
Service was held Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church with the Rev. Stanley Holmes as celebrant. O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, was in charge of arrangements.
Donna J. Setliff
Donna J. Setliff, 51, of Fraziers Bottom died October 27, 2002.
Service was held Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Milton.
Chester L. Trail
Chester L. Trail, 90, of Scott Depot died October 26, 2002, at home.
He was born at Eskdale, the only child of the late Thomas A. and Ida Creasey Trail. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Farmer Trail, and a grandson, Shaun Michael McCullough.
He was a retired Union Carbide pipefitter and was very active in church activities at St. John United Methodist Church, Scott Depot. Prior to relocating to Scott Depot in 1980, he was a longtime resident of Chelyan, where he was a member of the Lions Club. When construction of I-64/77 took the Chelyan United Methosist Church and parsonage, he was instrumental in relocating these facilities to an old grade school site where the church is now flourishing.
Surviving: daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Lou and Bob McCullough of Hurricane, Betty Jean and Paul Arbuckle of Charleston; three grandlchildren, P. Douglas Arbuckle of Williamsburg, Virginia, Vicki Arbuckle Shields of Tampa, Florida, and Debra Arbuckle Draheim of Charlotte, North Carolina; five great-grandchildren.
Service was held at St. John United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martin Hallett officiating. Entombment was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Madge Cochran King, 88, of Liberty died October 29, 2002, in Putnam General hospital following a short illness.
She was a homemaker and attended Mount Zion Church, Given.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold King, son, Jimmy, daughter, Betty, one brother and five sisters.
Surviving: daughter, Dottie Casto of Eleanor; daughter-in-law, Oneita King of Red House; grandchildren, Steven and Chris Casto, Terry and Tom Barrett, Debbie and Charlie Henthorn, Tony and Lisa King, and Cathy Roberts; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Henthorn, Tammy Casto, Lee Casto, Ethan King, Chelsea King, Joshua Ranson, Jonah Roberts, Jacob Osborn, Jordan Moubray, Courtney Roberts, and Kenny Moubray; great-great-grandchildren, Dana Miller and Kayla Miller; special caregiver, Velma Cochran of Leon; special friends, Charles and Thelma Blake of Eleanor; several nieces and newphews.
