Anna Mae Sunderland Kiser
Anna Mae Sunderland Kiser, 79, of Huntington, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Feb. 5. 2003, at her residence Funeral service were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Mitchell Nelson officiating. Burial in Bowen Cemetery, Beech Fork. She was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late John and Ollie Thompson Sunderland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Normel R Kiser, and son, David Kiser. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Lois Kiser of Huntington and Timothy and Judy Kiser of Milton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon Kiser of Huntington and Karen and John Bryan of Proctorville, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Luta Kiser of Huntington; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Clifford William “Dick” Bowen
Clifford William “Dick” Bowen, 73, of Barboursville, passed away Tuesday, Feb, 4, 2003, at his home. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor James Jobe. Burial in the Hicks-Bowen Cemetery. He was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Alva and Goldie Black Bowen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was the loving husband of 25 years of Lucille (King) Hicks Bowen. He was a wonderful dad to all of the children, seven stepdaughters, Betty Clay, Sharon Edmonds, Mary Roach, Ruth Jefferson, Sandy Dawson, Mildred Jenkins and Melita Knight, three stepsons, Paul, David and Michael Hicks; one sister and brother-in-law, Nila and Darwin “Junior” Bostic of Barboursville; three brothers, Alva Bowen Jr. and his wife Sharline of Barboursville, Carl Shepherd and Bill Shepherd; two special grandsons, Ricky Hicks and his wife Becky, and John Jefferson; with an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Gary Earl Wolfe
Gary Earl Wolfe, 67, of Barboursville, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at his residence. He was born March 6,1935 in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Clinton and Wilma Ferguson Wolfe. He was retired from the Huntington Alloys Division of the International Nickel Company, where he spent many years in the Spectrograph Laboratory, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Barboursville High School in 1953, where he excelled scholastically and athletically. He was president of his senior class and captained the baseball, basketball and football teams. He received numerous awards and athletic awards in high school, including the citizenship award and the Joe Nelson Outstanding Athlete Award before enrolling for a post-graduate year at Greenbriar Military School in Lewisburg, WVa. There he again excelled as a student and an athlete playing basketball, baseball and football. He later played for Marshall University and also played baseball for many years in the Huntington Industrial League. He is survived by his wife Linda Dingess Wolfe, one daughter, Penny L Wolfe of Chicago, Ill.; four sons, Steve Harrah of Norfolk Va., Scott Wolfe of Florida, Shawn Wolfe of Point Pleasant and Tim Wolfe of Ona, W.Va.; two sisters, Beverly McDaniel of Orlando, Fla., and Judy Dean of Huntington; one brother, Clinton Ray Wolfe of Aiken, S.C.; and 13 grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.

Brittany Ann Cremeans
Brittany Ann Cremeans, 10, of Pedro, Ohio, left to live with Jesus in her gold mansion Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor David Cardwell and Pastor James Hall. Burial in the Ross Cemetery, Salt Rock. She was born June 2, 1992, in Huntington, a daughter of Jody and Christy Skaggs Cremeans of Pedro, Ohio. Also surviving are one brother, Michael Dale Cremeans; maternal grandparents Ronald and Carol Skaggs of Barboursville; maternal great-grandmothers, Gladys Seay of Williamsburg, W.Va., and Judy Skaggs of Barboursville; paternal grandparents Willis and Elaine Cremeans of Pedro, Ohio; paternal great-grandmothers, Connie Walker of Salt Rock and Verna Mae Cremeans of Barboursville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Jean C. Luzader
Jean C. Luzader, 86, of Barboursville, formerly of Charleston, died Sunday, February 2, 2003. She was the Christian Education Director at the Charleston Baptist Temple and was a member of the Charleston Baptist Temple for more than 50 years. She lived most of her life in the Charleston area. She was a graduate of Charleston High School and attended business school. She is preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Luzader. She is survived by daughters, Jeannie Blankenbeckler of Huntington, WV, Anne Mowry of Chandler, Ariz., Susie Polk of Chicago, Ill., Nancy Quate of Carmel, Ind., and Cookie Miller of South Charleston. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at Charleston Baptist Temple with the Rev. Don Loudermilk officiating, assisted by Dr. Dennis Johnston. Burial in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charleston Baptist Temple, Morris and Quarrier Streets, Charleston, WV 25301, or Hospice of Huntington, 1101 6th Ave., Huntington, WV 25701.

Howard Luikart
Howard A. Luikart, 83, of Delaware, Ohio died Saturday, January 18, 2003, at his residence.
He was born on October 13, 1919 in Red House, West Virginia to Howard and Bertha Jeffers Luikart. In January 1941 he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II until his discharge in 1945. He came to Delaware in 1946 and retired from Abex/Dennison after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Believers Assembly Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lawrence; and sisters, Anna Mae Rayburn and Hazel Trigg.
Surviving: wife, Bertha; sons, Ronald Luikart of North Canton and Larry Luikart of Ashley; daughter, Patricia Baldwin of Ashley; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service was held at Ashley Union Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Shackelford officiating. Military honors were provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association. Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Grady, 561 W. Central Avenue, Delaware OH 43015.

George V. Crum
George Vinson Crum, 72, of Hurricane died January 30, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital.
Born October 2, 1930 in Huntington, a son of the late Leonard Vinson and Eloise Winters Crum, he was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, where he held several offices and assisted in the building of the church sanctuary. He was the retired executive secretary of the Public Employees Retirees System, Charleston. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in Korea. He was an avid Marshall University fan, a devoted husband and father.
Surviving: wife, Ava Florence Powell Crum; daughters and sons-in-law, Louise Crum Goode and Bill Goode of Hurricane, Jaye Crum O’Dell and Tony O’Dell of Hurricane; sisters, Elizabeth Bischoff of Miami, Florida and J.D. Crum of Coral Gables, Florida; grandchildren, Haley and Caroline Goode, Jonathan and Andrew O’Dell.
Service was held Monday, February 3, 2003, at St. John United Methodist Church with Dr. Martin H. Hallett officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 4013 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot WV 25560.

Add Whittington
Add Whittington, 89, of Buffalo died Friday, January 31, 2003, at home following a long illness.
He was a lifelong farmer, an operator for American Viscose Corp. with 18 1/2 years of service, and a retired carpenter with St. Albans Local No. 128. He was a member of Cross Creek Community Church, Buffalo.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Amos L. and Eugene M. Whittington.
Surviving: wife, Grace E. Hanna Whittington; sons, Glenn Whittington and his wife, Barbara, and Larry Whittington and his wife, Lesia, all of Buffalo; daughter-in-law, Mae Belle Whittington of Buffalo; grandchildren, Eugenia Moore of Ravenswood, Darlena Cain of Buffalo, Martha Alexander of Buffalo, Sarah Whittington of New York City, Benjamin Whittington of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Rachel Whittington of Morgantown, Alan Whittington of Buffalo, and Kristina Whittington of Buffalo; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Service was held Sunday, February 2, 2003, at Cross Creek Community Church with the Rev. Nyle Fisher, Pastor William “Bud” Hatfield and Pastor Harold Landers officiating. Burial was in the Whittington family Cemetery, Buffalo. Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, was in charge of arrangements.

Edward J. Novakoski
Edward J. “Ed” Novakoski, 25, of Poca died January 29, 2003, in CAMC Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was a 1996 graduate of Poca High School and a member of the Nitro Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arnold and Opal Arthur.
Surviving: parents, Edward and Karen Novakoski; sisters, Charity Thompson of Nitro and Amanda Young of Scott Depot; paternal grandfather, John Novakoski of Brownsville PA; paternal grandmother, Mary Walters of Warfordsburg PA; fiancee, Johanna Jones of Nitro.
Service was held Sunday, February 2, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Jeff Arthur officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Society, 2 Gateway Center, Suite 13, Pittsburgh PA 15222.

Ernestine T. McClanahan
Ernestine Turner McClanahan, 97, of Charleston, formerly of Lanham, died January 30, 2003, following a long illness.
She was a retired employee of Kanawha County Schools, having worked at Stonewall Jackson High School for many years. She was a member of Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church, Cross Lanes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman H. McClanahan, and her parents, Walter and Sarah “Bet” Turner.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Barbara McClanahan and James L. Haynes of Charleston; granddaughter, Sarah E. Haynes of Charleston; caregivers, Margaret Gillespie and Pam McGilton.
Service was held Monday, February 3, 2003, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with Elder Willard Bird and Elder Veldon Lynn officiating. Burial was in McClanahan Cemetery, Poca River Road, Poca.

Allen Eugene Saunders
Allen Eugene Saunders, 76, of Winfield died January 29, 2003, in CAMC Memorial Hospital.
He was retired from American Electric Power with 16 years of service and a former employee of Union Carbide. He was a member of Red House United Brethren Independent Church and the church choir, and an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Saunders, parents, Doc and Hazel Saunders, and sister, Madeline Hanna.
Surviving: wife, Dorthelene Ruth Smith Saunders; daughters and their husbands, Sharon Ann and William “Bill” Lynch and Deborah Lynn and Doug Tyree of Hurricane; grandchildren, Lisa and Kurt Ziegler of Boise, Idaho, Kellie and Darin Virag of Cross Lanes, Nicole Tyree of Nitro, and Jason Tyree of Hurricane; great-grandchildren, Turner Michael Virag of Cross Lanes, Courtney Elizabeth Virag of Cross Lanes, Cassidy Adams of Nitro, and Zoe Margaret Ziegler of Boise, Idaho; stepdaughters, Pamela Harris of Eleanor and Patricia Thornton of Black Betsy; stepsons, Michael Smith of Santa Fe, Texas and Mark Smith of Raymond City; sisters, Wanda McClung of Dunbar and Yvonne Scarberry Jones of Winfield; brothers, Shirley Saunders of Rock Branch, Jack Saunders of Nitro and Delmas Saunders of Red House; half-brothers, Carl Saunders of Kelleys Creek and Dillard Saunders of Tyler Mountain; half-sister, Lillian Kersey of Tyler Mountain; seven stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild.
Service was held Saturday, February 1, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Fairley McCormick and the Rev. Joey Scarberry officiating. Entombment was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Cross Lanes.

Lillie F. Setliff
Lillie F. Setliff, 94, of Fraziers Bottom died Tuesday, January 28, 2003.
Service was held Friday, January 31 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.
