Helen Louise Justice, 72. of Huntington died Friday, March 21st, 2003, in Fairhaven Rest Home, Huntington. Survivors include two children, Linda Justice and Larry Justice of Huntington; two sisters, Betty Moore of Riverside, Calif., and Sue Sturgal of Wayne; four brothers, George Lambert Jr. of Ashland, James Edward Lambert of Palm Springs, Calif., Corky Lambert of Columbus, Ohio, and James Lambert of Huntington; and granddaughter, Patty Justice. Funeral services were conducted at noon Monday in the chapel of Woodmere Memorial Park Abbey of Remembrance. There was no visitation. Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Kuhn Rice
Mary Kuhn Rice, 82, of Barboursville, passed away Friday, March 21, 2003, at St Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by ministers Alan Cole and Don Wright. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. She was born September 5, 1920, in Barboursville, a daughter of the late Kenna and Maggie Adkins Kuhn. She was retired from the Huntington Hospital and was a member of the 26th Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Willard, John and Vivien Kuhn. She is survived by one sister, Marie Kuhn of Barboursville; one brother, C.E Kuhn and his wife Phyllis, of Chapmanville, W.Va:, three nieces, Sue Lett, Barbara Galloway and Rhonda Peyton; five nephews, Mike, Kelly, Willard, Dewey and John Kuhn; eight great-nieces, nine great-nephews; six great-great-nieces and four great-great-nephews. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Winona Rimmer
Winona Rimmer, 87, of Ona, W.Va, went home to be with the Lord and her husband, Carl Rimmer, on Saturday, March 22, 2003. Funeral service were conducted 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in Rimmer Family Cemetery, Ona. She was born in Lincoln County, West Virginia, on December 10, 1915, a daughter of the late J.T. and Agnes Turley. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, her twin Winston Turley, Bill M. Turley, and Azel G. Turley. She was a homemaker and an active member of Beulah Ann Baptist Church where she helped and dedicated her time in many different aspects. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen Ruth and Don Elkins and Jane and John Nickerson - all of Ona; three grandchildren, Kathy Jackson, Kevin Elkins and Karen Holley, four great grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Jackson and Katelyn and Hannah Holley. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Cecil E. Romine
Cecil E. Romine, 82, of Huntington died Friday, March 21, 2003, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born Jan. 30,1921 in Nehawka, Neb., a son of the late Harry Romine and Minnie Adkins. He was a member of Grace Gospel Church and a veteran of the US. Army 13th Air Force, 307 Bomb Group, South Pacific, during World War II. He was a retired machinist from Huntington Alloys, where he worked 41 years. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Willa Eileen Hatfield Romine; children, Cecilia and Ed Kreuger of Springfield, Oh, and Dr. Van and Becky Romine of Siler City, N.C, grandchildren, Sondra and Frank Kreuger and Ivan, Micah and Lori Romine; one sister-in-law, Wilda Hatfield; two brothers-in-law, Ted Hatfield and Erskine and Kathleen Hatfield; and niece and nephew, June Smith and Eddie Cobb. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Clifford and one sister, Reba. Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Grace Gospel Church with the Rev. Keith Weibe and the Rev Jerry Matt officiating; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.. Violet Marie Spencer
Violet Marie Spencer, 73, of Ona passed away Saturday, March 22, 2003, in Fairhaven Nursing Home. Funeral service were conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born March 7,1930, a daughter of the late Harvey and Ethel Milton. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Ona. She is survived by her children, Angela and Robert Owens of Ona, Robert and Kathi Spencer of Hurricane, Clyde and Crissy Spencer of Hamilton, Ohio, Sandra Dejarnett of Altemonte, FL, Terry and Sarah Spencer of Winfield, Brent and Beth Spencer of Milton, Timothy Spencer of Ona, and Donna and Greg Ferguson of Ceredo; one sister, Ruby Jean King, of Barboursville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Wallace Ray Vance
Wallace Ray Vance, 71, of St. Albans, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, from complications of COPD. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Ron Hoffman officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born September 19, 1931, in Kanawha County, West Virginia, a son of the late Virgil A. and Lena Maysel Vance. Mr. Vance graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School, Charleston, in 1950. He retired from the United States Navy Military Sealift Command, and was also formerly employed by Friden Business Machines and Purolator Courier Corp. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Davis Vance of St. Albans; daughter, Michelle Vance of Lebanon, Tenn.; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Vance of Gretna, La., and Terrell and Yoko Vance of Frankfurt, Germany; as well as their mother, Wilma Vance of East Bank. Heck Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements.

Addie Nola Kay
Addie Nola Kay, 86, of Poca died March 9, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
Surviving: children, Louise Armstead of Poca, Barbara Tifton of New Mexico, James Armstead of Cross Lanes, Jackie Armstead of California, and Roger Kay of New Mexico; sisters, Sophia Nida of St. Albans, Mildred Chapman of Ohio, Juanita Duke of Georgia, Betty Huffman of Parkersburg, Patty Greathouse of Vienna, Wanda Curry of Parkesburg, and Rose Keaton of Tariff; brothers, Carl Hess of Walton and Brooks Hess of Mississippi; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. William Layne officiating. Burial was in Newton Falls Cemetery, Newton Falls, Ohio.

Herman O. Higginbotham
Herman O. “Otho” Higginbotham, 90, of Eleanor died March 9, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
He lived the majority of his life in the Eleanor area, even before the town of Eleanor esisted. He was a retired mechanic. He was the owner of Otho’s Pure Oil Station and later, Otho’s Amoco Starion. He was a highly respected businessman, hardworking and honest.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geraldine Sayre Higginbotham.
Surviving: daughter, Sharon Miller of Winfield; sons, Ronnie Higginbotham of Eleanor and John Higginbotham of Pliny; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Minister Jeremy Young officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Ruth A. Parsons
Ruth Arbutus Parsons, 63, of Red House died March 9, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital.
Surviving: daughters, Cathy Marker of Red House and Reba Lovejoy of Bancroft; son, Jason Parsons of Hometown; brothers, Donald Douglas of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Archie and Keith Douglas, both of Red House, and Frank Dougals of Bancroft; sisters, Norma Holloway of Bancroft and Janet Douglas of Nitro; six grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, Cameron, Joshua, Casie and Taylor.
Graveside service and burial was held Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Barnett Chapel Church Cemetery, Liberty. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Lee Bradberry
Jerry Lee Bradberry, 67, of Hurricane, formerly of St. Albans, died March 10, 2003, in CAMC Memorial Division, after a long battle with diabetes.
He was born February 1, 1936 at Barboursville, the son of the late Lonnie W. Bradberry and Mary Lou Bradberry Richardson of Huntington. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie W. Bradberry Jr. of Huntington.
He was a seven-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a member of the 1954 class of St. Albans High School and a life member of St. Albans Moose Club. He was retired from New River Financial Services in Oak Hill, where he was the general manager. He was a former compliance director of the West Virginia Tax Department, Charleston, and was a former senior vice president of the Bank of Mount Hope. He attended numerous finanacial schools and seminars while employed at the Bank of Mount Hope. During his years in the financial field, he was also employed as a branch manager for Colonial Acceptance Corporation in their Wheeling, Memphis, Tennessee and Pensacola, Florida locations.
Surviving: his wife of 48 years, Catherine Parr-Bradberry; son, Jerry Michael Bradberry of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson, Jesse Michael Bradberry of Louisville; sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Jim Dillon of Scott Depot and Hattie McGhee of St. Albans; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pauline Bradberry of Huntington, Corkie and Howard Brown of St. Albans, Ruth and John Goff of Titusville, Florida, Ham and Judy Parr of Hitchcock, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates and special friends.
Service was held Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Abe Hairston officiating.

G. Imagene Slawter
G. Imagene “Jean” Slawter, 68, of Scott Depot died March 10, 2003, in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington.
Born May 17, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Dale and Minne Searls. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John L. Slawter.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: daughters, Glenda Briscoe and Mildred Glover, both of Scott Depot; sisters, Bell Bird of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Elizabeth Jordan of Hurricane and Pauline Davis of Poca; brothers, Melvin Searls of Hamlin, Miles and Denver Searls, both of Hurricane; seven grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, March 14, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Sidney Dent officiating. Burial wa sin Mount Olive Cemetery, Hurricane.

Lester M. Myers
Lester M. Myers, 89, of Hurricane died March 12, 2003, at home after a short illness.
He was a retired contractor from AEP and a farmer. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Mountaineer VFW Post 9097 and Middle Fork Baptist Church, Sweetland.
Surviving: sons, Lamond and Toney Myers, both of Hurricane, Lloyd L. Myers of South Charleston, and Joe Collins Myers of Gassaway; daughters and son-in-law, Jeanie and Michael Smith and Patricia Wilmoth, all of Hurricane; grandson, David Smith of Hurricane; granddaughter, Sherri Rhodes of Buckeye; great-grandchildren, Tyler and John Smith of Hurricane; brothers, John L. Myers of Brounland, Charlie Myers of Hurricane and Lawrence A. Myers of Quinwood.
Service was held Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Kelson Bays and the Rev. Lyle McMicken officiating. Burial was in Sycamore Cemetery.

Maude L. Bannister
Maude Louise Bannister, 82, of Scott Depot, formerly of Shrewsbury, died March 12, 2003, at her home.
She was a former associate of The Diamond and Risk’s department stores and a member of Pine Grove Church of Christ, Scott Depot.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Bannister.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Joan Bannister of Winfield; daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Darrell Moon of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Ruth Moore of Charleston and Loretta Street of Elkview; brother, Fred Gunnoe of Elkhart, Indiana; beloved grandchildren, Dennie (Donna), David (Lorrie) and Jeff Bannister, John Moon and Traci Yoke; special great-granddaughters, Paige and Reilly Bannister.
Service was held Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Minister Chris Gallagher officiating. Entombment was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardents, Cross Lanes.

Vera N. Moxley
Vera Nyrell Moxley, 83, of Hurricane died March 11, 2003, at Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a homemaker, an avid traveler and a Christian, affiliated with the Church of God, Sweet Home, Oregon. She was born to Ethel and George Moxley on October 9, 19191 in Ennice, North Carolina.
Surviving: daughters, Claudia Jackson of Hurricane and Lana Mercer of Portland, Oregon; son, Rocky Moxley of Dallas, Texas; brother, Homer Moxley and wife, Norma of Salem, Oregon; sister, Irene Gilbert of Sweet Home; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home and Chapel, Sparta, North Carolina with the Rev. Robert Akers officiating. Burial was in the Edmonds Community Cemetery, Edmonds, North Carolina. Myers Funeral Home, Elkview, was in charge of local arrangements.

Margaret F. Noffsinger
Margaret Faye Noffsinger, 70, of Black Betsy died March 13, 2003, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of Black Betsy Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley C. Melton of Dunbar.
Surviving: husband, William “Bill” Noffsinger; sons and spouses, Charles and Lola Roberts of South Charleston, Joe and Vicky Roberts of Bancroft; daughter and husband, Dr. Susie and Steven Matulis of Charleston; sister, Phyllis Taylor of Melbourne, Florida; brothers, Howard Melton of Marlington and Franklin Melton of Cross Lanes; seven grandchildren, Heather and Brittney Roberts, both of South Charleston, Jonah Roberts of Bancroft, Shelly Roberts of South Chareston, Dr. Melissa Matulis of Winston-Salem, Lisa Matulis of Charleston, and Shannon Matulis of Knoxville; one great-grandson, Stephen Nicholas Cochran of Winston-Salem.
Service was held Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Legg officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House.

Kenneth R. Murphy
Kenneth Ray Murphy, 52, of Victoria, Texas, formerly of Hurricane, died March 11, 2003, at home.
He was born October 4, 1950 in Richwood, West Virginia. He was retired from Union Carbide/Dow Chemical Plant, Seadrift, Texas, as a senior construction manager with 28 years of service. He was a board member of the UCC/Dow Trap and Skeet Range and an avid outdoorsman and sports fan. He was a loving son, husband and father.
Surviving: wife, Cindy; son, Daniel Ray Murphy of Dallas, Texas; stepson, Kristan Lee Harrison of College Station, Texas; parents, Ray and Audrey Murphy of Hurricane; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Murphy of Hurricane; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Dale Burns of Huntington; nephew Matt Murphy of Hurricane; nieces, Sarah Woodson-Hall of Hurricane, Katie and Kelsie Burns of Huntington; beloved pets, Dutchess and Chester.
Service was held Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Guynith K. McClure
Guynith K. McClure, 88, of Scott Depot, formerly of Alum Creek, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at SunBridge Nursing Home, Hurricane, following a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian.
Surviving: sister, Geraldine Wade of Hurricane; brothers, Delmar Blankenship of Scott Depot, Ralph Blankenship of Pennsboro and Tommy Blankenship of Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Service was held Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Curry Funeral Home, Chapel, Alum Creek, with Pastor David Cyphors officiating. Burial was in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek.

Pansy Jane Black Conrad Chapman
Pansy Jane Black Conrad Chapman, 72, of Barboursville, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 13, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev Richard Black and the Rev. Paul Meadows. Burial in Forest Memorial Park Milton. She was born April 16,1930, in Mason County, a daughter of the late Nardia Black and Essie Mae Setliff Black Faulkner. She retired from Hills Department Store in Barboursville and she was a member of Mason Street Missionary Baptist Church in Milton.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Conrad, her late husband, Alvin Chapman, a baby brother, Henry Thomas Black, one great-grandson, Aaron Matthew Smith, a special nephew, Calvin Jenkins, and her stepfather, Froud Frank Faulkner. She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Darrell Williams of Milton, Anna and George Smith of Culloden, Joyce and Mike Bowyer of Barboursville, and Vickey and Damon Scott of Milton; three brothers, Floyd Black, Jimmy Faulkner, and Froud Frank “Dune” Faulkner Jr; five sisters, Susie Wallace, Bonnie Rainey, Opal Byrd, Janice Johnson, and Drema Layne; four granddaughters, Angela Bruce, Suzanne Beaver, Valeria Hatfield, all of Milton, and Debra Morrison of Culloden; four grandsons, Christopher Chapman and Michael Paul Bowyer of Barboursville, Kevin Williams of Salt Rock and Matthew Smith of Milton; 11 great-grandchildren; a special “daughter” Sue Grimes of Milton; special friends, Peck and Vickie Rutherford of Milton; and a host of friends and loved ones.
The family would like thank Dr. Beam, the staff at St Marys Medical Center, and the staff at Health South.

Woodrow Hassil “Hass” Chaney
Woodrow Hassil “Hass” Chaney, 87, of Broadus, Mont, formerly of Milton, uncle of Ralph Chaney, died Tuesday at home. He was a former tool machine operator for General Motors. Graveside funeral 2 p.m. Monday at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Barboursville.
