Edward L. Templeton, 71, of Milton died on Sunday, May 4, 2003 in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville; burial in Butcher Cemetery.

Arthur “Ray” Brown
Arthur “Ray” Brown, 83, formerly of Barboursville, husband of Norma Brown, died Thursday, May 1, 2003 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He was a retired C&O Railway electrician. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, Edgewater, burial in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater.

Richard F. Hatfield
Richard F. Hatfield, 71, of Conway, S.C., formerly of Barboursville, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2003, in Conway. Memorial services were conducted Monday, May 5, 2003, at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, Pa. He was the son of the late Walter and Freda Patterson Hatfield of Barboursville. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Baumgardner of Richmond, Va. and Sandra Watkins of South Point Ohio.

Durward Arthur Jones
Durward Arthur Jones, 83, of Ona, WV, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, in Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton. Funeral service were conducted Friday, May 2, 2003 at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington by Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born April 26, 1920, in Edmond, WV, a son of the late Arthur and Esther Holliday Jones. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in World War II. He was a retired salesman from General Building and Supply and a member of the Beulah Ann Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jo Jones. Survivors include his wife, Mary Brumfield Jones; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Karen Jones of Huntington and Curtis and Penny Jones of Ona; five grandchildren, David Jones, Sandra Adkins, Jonathan, Michael and Hannah Jones.

Dale Leon Adams Sr.
Dale Leon Adams Sr., 71, of Lesage, W.Va., passed away Monday, April 28, 2003, in Heritage Center, Huntington, WV. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Greenbottom Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Jackie Clark and Pastor Paul Spence officiating. Burial in Greenbottom Memorial Park. He was born December 4, 1931, in Huntington, a son of the late Delbert Adams Sr. and Ida Ellen McGraw Adams. He was also preceded death by a son, Dale Adams Jr.; stepson, Donald Smith, two brothers, Dilver and Daniel Adams; a sister, Barbara Crager. He was a retired machine foreman for the former Owens-Illinois. He was a U.S Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Post 1064, whose members conduct military graveside rites and was a member of USS Wisconsin Battleship Association. He was also a member of Minerva Lodge #13 AF&AM of Barboursville whose members conducted Masonic graveside rites, and he was a 32nd degree Mason. He attended Greenbottom Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Louise Meadows Adams; a son, Danny Adams of Lesage, W.Va.; a step-daughter, Sharon Banks of Saginaw, Mich.; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty Howerton of Lavalette, W.Va., Beatrice and Charles Parsons of Columbus, Ohio, Brenda and Bob Wiseman of Proctorville, Ohio, and Bonnie Stone of Bradenton Fla.; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Denver and Wanda Adams, Darrell Adams, and David Adams and special friend, Jim, all of Huntington, and Delbert Adams Jr. and Barbara Adams of Crown City, Ohio; special, aunt, Faye Clark of Milton, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Daniel Hedge Adams and Thomas Hedge; a sister-in-law and her husband, Delores and Ernie Grossman of Lesage; five step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements.

William H. “Bill” Muth Jr.
William H. “Bill” Muth Jr., 85, of Huntington, W.Va., husband of Jane Klein Muth his loving wife of 65 years, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Bill will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father of 12 children, who will miss him greatly. He was born on October 19, 1917, in Pikeville, Ky, a son of the late Garnet and William H. Muth Sr. Bill was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Muth, and two sisters, Joan Karle and Jean Muth. He is survived by his wife and their children and spouses including, Bill and Judy Muth, Mike and Cokey Muth, Tim and Susan Muth and Dick and Kit Muth, all of Huntington, Fred and Cathy Muth of Bluefield, W.Va., Steve and Chris Muth of Henderson, Nev., Jerry and Lisa Muth of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tom and Sally Muth of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Jane Muth of Milwaukee, Wis., Pete and Margaret Muth, Jeff and Susie Smith and John and Jeannie Bauer, all of Huntington; 30 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Muth and Kathryn Krupp; and three brothers, Jimmy Muth, Dan Muth and David Muth; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Bill was a master Lumber Inspector and was the founder and president of Muth Lumber Company until his retirement in 1984, after which he continued as a mentor and consultant until his death. Bill is remembered as a man of integrity and humor who was always straightforward. He was most proud of his family and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was actively involved at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and in the St. Joseph High School Athletic Program during his children’s youth. At that time he was also instrumental in the development of the Huntington Little League program. He was a long-standing member of The Sierra Club, The Appalachian Hardwood Association and the Guyan Golf and Country Club. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Huntington; burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers were grandchildren, Joe Muth, Jeff Muth, Matt and Mark Muth, Nathan and Adam Muth, Jeff and Alex Smith, Janie Powell, Pete Muth and Robbie Muth. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the St. Joseph Catholic schools. Beard Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Hazel Davis
Mary Hazel Davis, 92, of Culloden, widow of Pete Davis, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2003, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Bertha and Jack Sowards. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Sousanah Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Junior Smith and the Rev Caudle Adkins officiating. She was born October 29, 1910, a daughter of the late L.A. and Sally McCallister. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Porter; a grandson, Larry Porter; two sisters, Sena Berry and Mamye Sargent; two brothers, Ronnie and Hershey McCallister. Hazel was a member of the Sousanah Freewill Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Hurricane. She is survived by a brother, Hobert McCallister of Texas; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Mary Cecil
Annie Mary Duncan Cecil, 95, died April 20, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Winfield.
Annie Mary was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Christiansburg, Virginia for 61 years. She has served as president of United Methodist Women in the past and still kept in touch with and supported Circle 4.
She made her home with her daughter, Frankie, since 1995. She attended Judson Baptist Church, Bills Creek, Winfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank R. Cecil; daughters, Anne Duncan Cecil Moore and Dortha Jane Cecil Epperly; sons-in-law, John H. Epperly and Charles H. Hancock Jr.; and grandson, Hank Epperly.
Surviving: daughter, Frankie Hancock of Winfield; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.
Service was held Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Christiansburg, with the Rev. Doug Kanney officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Judson Baptist Church, Bills Creek, Winfield, with the Rev. Mark Booth and the Rev. Fred McCallister officiating. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg VA 24068, or a charity of your choice.

Ardin Dale Singleton
Ardin Dale Singleton, 92, of Hurricane, formerly of Flatwoods, died April 20, 2003, at the home of his daughter following a long illness.
He was born April 26, 1910 at Grass Run, WV, the son of the late Linzy Dow and Mamie V. Allen Singleton. He was also preceded in death by great-grandson, Luke Arron Bock; brothers, Delos, Percy, Basil, Richard and Randall; and sister, Marie.
He was a retired chief gunner’s mate in the United State Navy.
Surviving: wife, Katherine Justice Singleton, whom he married December 16, 1944; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and David Blevins of Hurricane; grandchildren, William Scott White and Tammy White Bock; great-grandchild, Hunter Scott White; sister, “Biddie” Campbell of Gassaway; brother, Clifford Singleton of Clarksburg.
Service was held Saturday, April 2, 2003, at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, Flatwoods, with the Rev. Sandra Kay Firth officiating. Interment followed in Flatwoods Cemetery.

Judy C. Kennedy
Judy Carolyn Gibson Kennedy, 59, of Fraziers Bottom died April 18, 2003, at home after a sudden illness.
Judy was an employee of the Putnam County Board of Education at Hurricane High School and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Houston and Clara Nolan Billups Gibson; and her sister, Doris Jean Gibson Vance.
Surviving: daughters, Mary and Tausha Kennedy, both of Hurricane, and Twyla Kennedy of Milton; son, Thomas Kennedy of Fraziers Bottom; sons-in-law, Mike Shirkey and Martin Wheeler; sisters, Pauline White of Culloden and Betty Bennett of Nashville; granddaughters, Jordan and Sydney Kennedy and twins, Karsen and Kennedy Wheeler; several nieces and nephews; her dear friend, Diane Humphreys of Hurricane; and many special people in her life.
Service was held Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Jerry Losh officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Doris H. Cawley
Doris H. Cawley, 75, of Poca died April 10, 2003, at home.
Mrs. Cawley was a retired school teacher from Putnam County with 33 years of service and a member of Poca United Methodist Church.
Surviving: sons, David Cawley, Eddie Cawley and Allen Cawley, all of Poca, and Wesley Cawley of Midway; sisters, Juanita Martin of Poca and Dorothy Woodall of Poca; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
Service was held Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Jonathan Nettles officiating. Entombment followed in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House.

Frank Meo Jr.
Frank Meo Jr., 63, of Scott Depot died April 11, 2003, at home.
He was born November 29, 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey, a son of the late Francesco and Felicetta Meo of Nola, Italy, where many of his family live today. He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane, and was retired from Aventis Cropscience, Institute. Over the years, he received engineering degrees from several institutes of technology and was involved in many facets of the engineering profession.
Surviving: his wife of 39 years, Catherine McPartland Meo; daughters, Susan Zearfoss and husband, Chuck, and Laura Meo of Kentucky, and Jennifer Meo of New Jersey; son, James of Kentucky; brother, Carmine F. Meo of New Jersey; two granddaughters.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, April 14, 2003, at the Catholic Church of the Ascension with Father Neil Buchlein as celebrant. Committal service was held Tuesday at Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Kentucky. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, Inc., 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064; or the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, 1210 Virginia Street East, Charleston WV 25301.

Wetzel E. Young
Wetzel E. Young, 67, of Hurricane died April 22, 2003, at home after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar D. Young, and brother, James O. Young.
Surviving: wife, Angela “Angie” Young; mother, Inez Young of Culloden; sons, and daughters-in-law, Alan “Dink” and Bobbie Young, William “Billy” and Ronald Young of Hurricane, Richard “Ricky” and Tonja Young of Fraziers Bottom; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra “Debbie” and Mike Gillespie and Patricia “Patty” and Billy Gillispie, all of Hurricane; four grandsons and three granddaughters, sisters and a brother-in-law, Bernice Stover of Hurricane, Joann and Marshall Call of Culloden.
Service was held Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Ray Sovine officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Steve W. Frame
Steve W. Frame, 54, formerly of Bancroft, died April 13, 2003, in Florida after a long illness.
He was born December 15, 1948 in Kanawha County, a son of the late Basil and Doris Frame.
He was a graduate of Poca High School and received two degrees from Marshall University. He began his career as a teacher in Jackson County before holding numerous educational administrative positions in local and state school districts in West Virginia and Florida, including superintendent of schools for Webster County. He formerly attended Community Church of God in Florida.
Surviving; his wife of 31 years, Lana Jo Frame of Florida; son, Adam Paul of Lovejoy; sisters, Yvonne Flowers of Bancroft and Judy Harrah of Charlotte, North Carolina; brothers, Junior “Bill” Frame of Maui, Hawaii and Thomas Frame of Bancroft.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Red House, with Pastor James Arthur officiating. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn F. Gordon
Evelyn F. Gordon, 89, of Red House died April 21, 2003, in St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was retired from Gravely Tractor with 40 years of service and was a former employee of Fletcher Enamel. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bancroft.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Zollie O. Gordon; daughter, Julia “Judy” Hudson; grandsons, Terry Lee Perkins, Billy Hudson and Baby Hudson; great-grandsons, Christopher Gibson and Rodney Moore; and her parents, John and Lula Ford.
Surviving: daughters, Helen Patricia Snyder of New Port Richey, Florida, Jean Ann Hanshaw of Leesville, South Carolina, and Lenore Frances Perkins of Red House; stepson, Carl Gordon of Nitro; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Woods of Charleston, Maxine Moore of Tacoma, Washington, Alberta Saunders of St. Albans, and Christine Asbury of Rockford, Illinois; two brothers, John Ford of Colliers and James Ford of Hinton; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many stepgrand- and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral mass was Thursday, April 24, 2003, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Bill Petros officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Gary B. Hunt
Gary Bruce Hunt, 41, of Fraziers Bottom died suddenly April 21, 2003, at home.
He was an employee of Keith’s Kitchen, Winfield, and was a member of Nitro Moose Lodge 565. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was an avid bowler, hunter and fisherman.
Surviving; son, Travis Bruce Hunt of Fraziers Bottom; parents, Arnold B. Jr. and Joan Hunt of Fraziers Bottom; sister, Cindy Hunt of Fraziers Bottom; brother and sister-in-law, Gregory Lee and Melanie Hunt of St. Albans; niece, Jessica Cox; nephews, Todd Smith and Brandon Hunt.
Service was held Friday, April 25, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Gary Hale and the Rev. Jim Conley officiating. Burial was in Laurel Point Cemetery, Newton.
