She was a member of Open Door Baptist Church, Huntington.
Surviving: daughter, Hermetta Keeling of Huntington; son, C. Wilburn Mitchell of Peterstown; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jerry Chapman officiating. Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery.

A. Dudley Rumbaugh, 84, of Hurricane died June 9, 2003, following a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Margaret Kerr Rumbaugh; his wife of 53 years, Virginia Hinkle Rumbaugh; brothers, Lloyd, Luther and Alvin; and sister, Elizabeth Davis.
He was retired from Blue Shield/Blue Cross of West Virginia with 33 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving: daughters and their husbands, Ann and Randy Adams of Denver, North Carolina, Jane and Jim Sovine of Raleigh, North Carolina; son, Roger of Charleston; sisters, Myrtle Rumbaugh of Hurricane, Myrdith Maclerry of Luling, Louisiana and Martha Lee Smith of Nokomis, Florida; four grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, June 12, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Hurricane with the Rev. Dr. Charles Hendricks officiating. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, Dunbar. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary E. Christy, 84, of Poca died June 13, 2003, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Christy was a Christian.

W.H. “Tom” Young, 76, of Fraziers Bottom died June 13, 2003, at home.
He was born December 31, 1926, a son of the late Charles Locie Young and Callie Dona Harbour Young.
Surviving: wife, Sarah Frances Holley Young; children, Barbara Jean Rose, Dallas Harold Young and William D. Young, all of Hurricane, and Phyllis Ann Gillispie of Culloden; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley. Burial was in Young Family Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom.
Arnold W. Joyce
Arnold Wilson Joyce, 82, of Newport News, Virginia died Tuesday, June 10, 2003.
Born in Scott Depot to the late Arnold and Sarah Joyce, he served with the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps during World War II. In 1982 he retired from Exxon after 37 years of service. He was an avid metal detector and enjoyed finding treasures for more than 30 years.
Surviving: his wife of 54 years, Joyce; daughters, Becky and Debi; sons, Mike, Tim, Dave and Danny; granddaughters, Kim, Christy, Lindsey, Lauren, Lynne, Cari, Kasey, Lesley, Robin, Amanda, Amy, Marie, Lori, and Cassie; grandson, Jason; great-grandchildren, Sydnee and Jadyn; sisters, Lillian McClain, Alice Joyce, Colleen Burnside, Ruth Pauley, all of Scott Depot, Arlene Wells of Winfield, and Jean Briscoe of Luling, Louisiana; brother, Hobert Joyce of Scott Depot; numerous nieces and nephews.

Edith Leola Nicely Adkins, 85 of Branchland, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Sunbridge Care Center in Putnam County. She was born April 1, 1918, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Nathan and Elizabeth Carter Nicely. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Granville Adkins, seven brothers and two sisters. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Roger Ray and Linda Adkins of Salt Rock, Raymond Lee and Brenda Adkins of Branchland, Gary Warren and Jane Adkins of South Carolina, Lawanna and Charlie Bias of Alabama, Connie Denise and Leland Adkins of Branchland; 16 grandchildren, nine children; and two sisters. He was born October 10, 1962, in Huntington, a son of Jack Davis and Lillian Fannin Patterson of Prichard, W.Va. He was a production worker with Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia at Buffalo. James Nighbert Aldridge Sr., 73, of Lesage, W.Va., died Sunday, June 8, 2003, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born August 7, 1929, in Huntington, a son of the late Dr. John Edward and Margaret Thompson Aldridge. Mr. Aldridge was a graduate of Marshall Lab School and the Kentucky Military Institute and attended the University of Kentucky. He was the owner and operator of Aldridge Farms for 54 years and in his early farming experience, Farmer Bill Click was his mentor. Mr. Aldridge was President of the Farm Bureau, state President of ASC under the Eisenhower administration, a member of the Cabell County Planning Commission, Republican Jury Commissioner of Cabell County, past President of Nighbert Land Company, a member of Guyan Golf and Country Club and a member of The Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. He was also preceded by a brother, John Edward Aldridge and a sister, Helen Aldridge Shinkle. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Garred Aldridge; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James N. and Janel Aldridge of Huntington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Danny Gardner of Huntington, Laura Jane and David Kerns of Troy, Michigan, Mary Elizabeth and Timothy Gocke Sr. of Fremont Ohio; a brother, George T. She was born December 1, 1919, in Logan, WV, the daughter of the late Joseph and Donna Brown Smith. Also preceding her in death is her loving husband Carlton F. Myrle Edward Bailey, 64, of West Hamlin went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 7, 2003. Billy Jack Richardson
Billy Jack Richardson, 70, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Ona, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Private military graveside services were conducted by the VFW Post #9738 Huntington. He was born October 29, 1932, in Cabell County, a son of the late Henry Richardson Sr. and Louise Bryom Richardson. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Navy as a 3rd class gunnersmate aboard the USS Los Angeles, and was a retired teacher and principal. He taught and coached football and baseball at Milton High School and was a principal or vice-principal at Enslow, Oley, Barboursville and Cox’s Landing schools. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Ellen Adkins Richardson, two brothers, Charles Richardson and David Richardson and one sister, Cora Lee Rovillard. He is survived by one daughter, Lenora Richardson of Salt Rock; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Eron Richardson of St. Albans, Billy Jack Richardson II of Roanoke, Va., and Nathan and Lisa Richardson of Barboursville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Clarence Wallace of Florida and Nancy and Ralph Henson of Huntington; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Henry and Dee Richardson of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Robert Bryom of Huntington; four grandchildren Ashley and Justin Richardson of Roanoke, Va., and Brandi and Matthew Richardson of Barboursville Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Mary Elizabeth Dent, 86, of Scott Depot died June 3, 2003, at home.
She was born May 15, 1917 in Southside, Mason County, a daughter of the late James W. and Mimmie Surbaugh Lanier. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dawson Dent, sisters, Ruth Racer and Virginia Lanier, grandsons, Brian and Troy Dent, her grandfather, John David Surbaugh, a son-in-law, Acie Call, and an infant son at birth.
Her family includes 15 sets of five generations.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Cross Lanes, and was a five-year member of KOPS.

Homer K. Criner
Homer K. Criner, 88, of Red House died June 3, 2003, at his home after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three sisters, his wife, one son, and one grandson.
He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He was a former employee of Raymond City Coal Transportation Corporation. In June 1979, after 36 years of service, he retired from Monsanto where he held the position of head operator. During his life, he attended Paradise Church of God and Lone Oak Church of God Mission. His hobbies included puzzles, reading and gardening.
He was a loving father to 15 children and a devoted husband to his wife of 66 years, Lesta.
