Donald Dwight Gue Sr.
“Precious Memories” was DONALD DWIGHT GUE SR.'s favorite song. And though the Lord called him home on September 19, 2003, he left us with those precious memories to sustain our hearts. Don was born in Salt Rock on September 11, 1938, the son of the late Rev. Ira and Nellie Gue. He grew up in this area and as a carpenter has left his mark here with the many homes he's built since he was 14 years old. He was one of the founding members of Glory Way Baptist Church - a church he along with others - built with his own hands. He named the church and was a faithful member since its beginning. Don is leaving behind a wife of 41 years, Judy Gue, and two children Donald D. Gue Jr. and Teresa Crow, all of Salt Rock. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Tammy Gue and son-in-law, Rick Crow. The legacies he leaves behind are his most prized possessions - his grandchildren, whom he loved more than anything, Nathaniel and Daniel Crow and Emily and Sarah Gue. His family was his life and he left them with this one request “Find God and keep God; promise me we'll meet again.” Don also left behind his only brother, Ed Gue of Salt Rock, whom he worked with, argued with, laughed with and loved, and four sisters, Delores Pinkerman, Lora Hall and Shirley Johnson, all of Barboursville, and Sue Brown of Huntington. They all held a special place in his heart. Preceding him in death was a very special sister, Redith “Dickie” Burgess. Don was a quiet man but he touched many lives through his testimonies, his helping hands and his love. He lived his life as Christ like as he could, whether at work or at home.
He raised his two children in a loving, happy home and taught them to love each other, take care of each other and always keep God first in their lives. Because of his long battle with lung cancer, he requested not to have a viewing. “Remember me like I was,” he said. The funeral was held Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Wallace Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Caldwell officiating. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery.
