Ruby Jewell Baker, 84, of Huntington formerly of West Hamlin, passed away Sept 10, 2003, in Mariner Health Care of Huntington. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel Barboursville, by the Rev. Don Napier. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born Aug. 30,1919, in Lincoln County, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie C. Baker. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ancel Patton of Huntington; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Elaine Baker of Huntington and Paul and Hilda Baker of West Hamlin; one sister, Mary Vance of Milton; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Lavinia Miller Cline
Lavinia Miller Cline, 72, of Huntington W.Va, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. She was born Oct. 29,1930, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Andrew and Rosa Crawford Miller. Lavinia was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and was very active until her health declined. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cline; a sister, Louella McComas; and a brother, Charles Miller. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Stephen and Karen Cline of Katy, Texas, and Timothy Ray and Laura Moss Cline of Huntington, with whom she made her home; four grandchildren, Robert Stephen Cline II and his wife, Jennifer, Andrew Robert Cline, Christine Jeanette Cline and Joseph Christopher Cline; a step-great-granddaughter, Katelyn; several nieces and nephews; and host of special friends from First Church of the Nazarene. Lessie Ann Epling, 90, of Huntington passed away Thursday, September 11, 2003, at Mariner Health Care. She was born July 7, 1913, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Betty Cremeans Harvey. She was a member of the Madison United Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tim Smith;. her second husband, Leonard Epling; two sons Wayne Epling and Charles Smith. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Charles Chapman of Huntington; five sons, Royce Smith and his wife Thelma of Salem, Ohio, Merlin Smith and his wife Janice of South Point, Ohio, Hallie Smith and his wife Marie of Lavalette, Farnia Smith and his wife Karen of Ridgely, W.Va., and Sammy Epling of Salt Rock; one sister, Fern Triplett of West Hamlin; three brothers, Willard Harvey and Jennings Harvey, both of Huntington, and Darrell Harvey of Logan, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Stephen R. Lambe, 48, of Lesage, husband of Debbie Carter Lambe, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, in St Marys Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Sept 16. 2003, at Chapman's Mortuary, with the Rev. B C Egnor officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born Jan 26,1955, in Norfolk Va., a son of Lillian “Mickey” Lineberry Lambe Ewell of Norfolk Va., and the late Russell H. Lambe Jr. He was a veteran and owner of Steve's Tree Service. He was a member of American Legion Post 177 Barboursville. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by stepson Matthew Nance. Additional survivors include his stepmother, Nancy Lambe Meadows of Nippa, Ky.; a son, Matthew Lambe of Barboursville; four step-children, Chuck McCoy of Ashton, W.Va., Jason McCoy of Barboursville, Robbie Nance of Milton and Kimberly Swain of Lesage; .three sisters and a brother-in-law, Cathy Schmidt of Boca Raton, Fla, Ruth Egnor of Huntington and Linda and George Dewees of Lesage; four brothers and a sister-in-law, David Lambe of Barboursville, Eddie Lambe of Nippa, Ky., Mike Lambe of Huntington and Rick and Drema Lambe of Huntington; a grandson and a granddaughter, and his mother-in-law, Betty Carter of Lesage, who loved him like a son. She was born June 24,1925, in Wayne County. a daughter of the late Ezra and Nora Sansom Lester. She was a member of the Bethlehem United Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Watts; one sister, Eunice Adkins and one brother, Raven Lester. She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Billy Joe and Tracy Damron of Milton, Dennis Watts of Kenova and Rickie L Watts of Indiana; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Freda May Jenkins of Huntington. Glenn W. McFann
Glenn W. McFann, 73, of Lesage, W.Va., died Thursday, September 11, 2003, at his residence. Private graveside services were conducted Saturday at Caldwell Cemetery, Lesage. He was born January 28, 1930, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Earl Riggs and Halcie Winters McFann. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Local IUOE 132, and was a U.S. ARMY veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Doris Ray McFann; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy Aycock of Huntington and Sandy and Allen Brownfield of Barboursville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Glenn McFann of Lesage and Mike and Amy McFann of Barboursville; grandchildren, Adam, Jordan, Jake, Cara, Oliver, Johnna, Alisha, Casey, Kenny and one expected; two sisters, Fern Maxwell and Ramona Baker, both of Barboursville and a sister-in-law, Coralee McFann of Culloden. William Eugene Cassady
William Eugene Cassady, 62, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Monday, September 8, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Woodmere Memorial Park, with Pastor Jeff Sizemore officiating. He was born in Huntington W.Va., August 23, 1941, the son of the late William Elbert Cassady and Madeline Davis Cassady Poston Hensley. He was a member of Roach Baptist Church, of which he was pastor for 16 years. In addition to Roach Baptist Church he was pastor at Mount Zion Baptist Church and Freedom Baptist Church. He was a chaplain with the Pastoral Care Department at St. Mary's Medical Center for 14 years and one of the founding ministers. While with the Pastoral Care Department he served as night call chaplain and staff member. He was a Navy veteran and retired from Special Metals Inc. He was active with Orphans for Christ for many years and made many trips to Mexico to support this effort.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years Barbara Ann Cassady; two daughters, Debra Ann Cassady of Salt Rock W.Va., and Beverly Jean (Mrs. Jeff) Sizemore of Barboursville, W.Va. He is also survived by one brother and his wife, Wilford Dale and Anna Poston, and one sister, Linda H. Adkins of Barboursville, WVa. He leaves behind five grandchildren whom he loved and adored very much. Other survivors include a very special uncle who had been a father to him Rev. Charles L Davis of Valdosta, Ga.; his father-in-law, Homer B. Frye; Charles and Brenda Hall, Jerry and Sharon Frye, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, church families and co-workers that were very dear to him. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and with his life the example has been set for us to follow. In one of his sermons, he used the text of II Timothy 4:7 - “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” He said, “When I am ready to die, I want to be able to say this. This is my prayer.” This is the way he lived and he succeeded. Contributions may be made to The Gideons International for Memorial Center Foundation. There was no visitation. Sula Edmonds Holley, 94, of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday, September 8, 2003 at her residence. She was born October 23, 1908, in Glenwood, W.Va., the daughter of Jeremiah and Mattie Holley Edmonds. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kelva R. Holley; her daughter-in-law, Joann V. Holley; her granddaughter, Sabrina Holley Cline; one brother, and five sisters. She is survived by two children, Ernest K. Holley and wife Deloris of Barboursville and Leona H. Mackey and husband Charles of Huntington; five grandchildren, Ernest Ray Holley, Anthony S. Holley, and Stephanie H. Cremeans and husband Wesley, all of Barboursville, Charles T. Mackey and wife Debbie of California and Cheryl M. George of Bluffton, S.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Katie Holley, Brandon Cremeans, Candice Cline, Jessica, Joshua, and Jacob George and Ian Mackey; two special sisters, Marie Barker and Martha Stover and two brothers, Melvin and Dallas Edmonds, all of Glenwood, W.Va. Sula was a homemaker and made beautiful quilts in her leisure time. she attended Twenty-Sixth Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the Willing Worker's Sunday School Class. One of her greatest joys was spending each Thursday quilting with the Ladies Aid at church. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, September 11, 2003, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington with Rev. Janet Faye White-Lewis
The gates of Heaven opened up and welcomed JANET FAYE -Lewis, of Lesage, W.Va., into the presence of her loving Lord on September 8, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Friday, September 12, 2002, at Chapmans Mortuary with Rev. Carroll Jones and Pastor James Jefferson officiating. Burial in Union Ridge Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Lewis, Jr. She was born June 30, 1936, the daughter of the late Gomer and Faye Rutherford White. She was a faithful member of Oak Hill UBI Church. Janet's mission in life was to serve her Lord and do for others. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Max and Donna White; two nieces and their spouses, Kathy and Allen Johnson and Amy and Tracy Burgess; a very special great-nephew, Dustin M. Burgess; her number one pride and joy, a greatly loved great-niece, Abigail Faye Johnson; two step-great nephews Zach and Adam Johnson; a foster brother and his wife, Russell and Connie Gray, their children and spouses, Tom and Kim Gray and Janne and Mike Lemley; two aunts and their spouses, Norma and Charles Graves and Helen and Thomas Kingery; and host of family, and a loving church family. Pallbearers were Dustin Burgess, Tracy Burgess, Allen Johnson, Rusty Gray, Demus McComas, and James Ingram. The family would like to give a special thanks to Drs. James Goetz and John DiStephano. Gerald E. Tyler Jr., 75, of Barboursville, passed away September 7, 2003, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Putnam. He was born July 20, 1928, in Missouri, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerald E. Tyler Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian L. Tyler. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jayne and Richard Gill of Barboursville; one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald E. III and Jacque Tyler of South Point, Ohio; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Susie Keiffer
Mrs. Susie Keiffer, 92, of Scott Depot died Thursday, August 28, 2003, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of Peoples Baptist Church, Scott Depot.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Bertha Kapp, and her husband, O.H. Keiffer.
Surviving: stepson, Jack Keiffer and his wife, Betty of St. Albans; stepgrandchildren, Robert Keiffer, Ted Keiffer, Tom Keiffer and Jackie Crawford, all of St. Albans; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Jacklyn and Jessica Jo.

Rebecca “Beck” Quigley, 92, of Red House died August 27, 2003.
She was a member of Paradise Church of God Mission.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Quigley; son, James Quigley; two grandsons, Lowell Honaker and Robby McCallister; and one great-grandson, Jacob Hill.
Surviving: children, Mary McCallister of Red House, Clara Honaker of New Albany, Ohio, Wanda Bailey of Follansbee, and Archie Quigley of Red House; sisters, Gladys Stephenson and Mary Woodward, both of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Ruby Mitchell and Thelma Colman, both of Titusville, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Gary W. Hudson Sr.
Gary Wayne “Hoppy” Hudson Sr., 43, of Winfield died August 26, 2003, at home following a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Winfield, a graduate of Winfield High Schook enjoyed all sports, especially drag racing and NASCAR racing and was an avid outdoorsman.
Surviving: wife, Linda O’Neal Hudson, daughter of the late Randolph O’Neal and Florence O’Neal; sons, Gary Wayne Hudson Jr., at home, Brandon Wesley Hudson, at home, and Josh Hudson in the U.S. Air Force; stepson, Robert Skonberg of Poca; stepdaughters, Heather Lovejoy of Winfield and Sandra Call of Hurricane; parents, Robert and Naomi Spencer Hudson of Winfield ; sister, Linda Hudson Wood of Winter Haven, Florida.

William H. Gillispie
William Howard Gillispie, 63, of Hurricane died August 30, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital after a two-year battle with multiple strokes.
He was a lifelong resident of the Hurricane area.
Surviving: wife, Loretta Gillispie; son and his wife, Billy and Patty Gillispie of Hurricane; daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Arthur Forbes of Hurricane; grandchildren, William “Bub” Gillispie, Christopher Forbes, Matthew Forbes and Cody Forbes, all of Hurricane; sister and her husband, Reba and Tony Holley of Ohio.

Kenneth D. Smith Sr.
Kenneth D. “Beano” Smith Sr., 55, of Hometown died August 30, 2003, at home.
He was a retired security guard from Putnam General Hospital and a member of Nitro Moose Lodge.
Surviving: grandson, Trey Smith and his wife, Ruth; son, Kenneth Smith Jr. of Nitro; daughter, Bonnie Smith of Hometown; stepchildren, Chad and matthew Bowles, both of Leon; sisters, Martene Simmons of Chillicothe, Ohio, Becky Martin of Hometown, and Elizabeth Shue of Poca; brothers, William “Sambo” Smith of Poca and Ira “Uncle” Smith of Hometown; five grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Tuesday, September 2, 2003, in Warner Cemetery, Leon, with Paul Arthur officiating. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.
William Roush
William “Doug” Roush, 41, of Red House died August 30, 2003, of injuries sustained in a car accident.
He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip “Sonny” Roush.
He was a lifelong resident of Red House and a 1980 granduate of Poca High School. He was employed by AVI Food System, Dunbar.
Surviving: mother, Faye Roush of Red House; brother, Phillip Eugene Roush of Kent, Washington; sisters and their husbands, Diana LaVone and Robert J. Benefiel Jr. of Lumber Bridge, North Carolina, Brandi Lynn and Raine O. Beller of Red House; niece Sierra Lynn “Pooh” Beller of Red House; nephews, Phillip Perry Roush of San Jose, California and Phillip John Roush of Kent; numerous friends and relatives.

Naomi Gill Hager, 92, of Eleanor died September 1, 2003, in Regency Place, following a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Hager Sr., three brothers and four sisters.
She was a homemaker and a member of randolph Street Baptist Church, Charleston.
Surviving: sons, and their wives, Joe W. Jr. and “Dodie” Hager of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, James G. and Barbara Hager of Teays Valley; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two step great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, September 4, 2003, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Thomas Smith and the Rev. David Panaro Jr. officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Dale Edwin Meadows, 59, of Winfield died September 1, 2003, at home after an extended battle with cancer.
He was born Octiber 16, 1943 in Jackson County, a son of the late Basil and Sally Meadows.
He was a graduate of Buffalo High School and a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was retired from American Electric Power with 34 years of service and was a current member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church.
Surviving: wife of 38 years, Sue White Meadows; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Blake of Scott Depot; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Betsy Meadows of Cross Lanes; grandchildren; Haley and Jeremy Blake and Joshua Meadows; sister, Karen Kovalchik of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Leroy and Donald “Choc” of Eleanor, Ron of Johnstown, Ohio, David of Red House, Fred of Winfield, and Bruce of Mooresville, North Carolina.

Reba R. Sheets
Reba R. Hulbert Sheets, 88, of Scott Depot, formerly of Buffalo, died September 2, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital following a sudden illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy L. and Cleo Warner Hulbert, and sister, Mrs. Mary “Billie” Hulbert Howard.
She was a 1931 granduate of Buffalo High School and a graduate of West Virginia University, where she received a degree in education. She was a retired teacher from the Putnam County and Kanawha County school systems. She was a member of Alpha Phi sorority, Buffalo United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving: husband, Warner M. Sheets of Scott Depot; stepdaughters, Barbara Hager of Hurricane and Hilda M. Jividen of Cross Lanes; sister, Clara Ann Douglas of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; nieces Donna Ann Absten of Reynoldsburg, Susan L. Howard and Karen Howard Burdette, both of Buffalo.
