Maura Rae Kuhl
Maura Rae Kuhl, infant daughter of Jess and Mary Kuhl of Winfield, died September 4, 2003, at home.
Maura Rae was born September 1, 2003 and is also survived by her brother, Jak Kuhl; her grandparents, Randy and Diann Hodges and Roy and Norma Kuhl, all of Winfield; great-grandparents, Mildred and the late Arnold Ray Hodges of Winfield, Lloyd and JoAnn Cobb of Scott Depot, Edith and the late Lloyd Fisher of Winfield; aunts and uncles, Sara and Eric Whitney of Winfield, Leslie Hunt of Hometown, Roy, Jr. and Jennifer Kuhl of Pliny; several cousins.
Service was held Saturday, September 6, 2003, at the Winfield Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Roger Adams and Pastor Ray Cobb officiating. Private burial was in Winfield Cemetery.

Kelle Boggs
Kelle Boggs, 58, of Winfield is dancing with the angels in heaven.
Kelle was born in Columbus, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Ruby Katherine Melton and Hank Lathey.
Kelle studied dance in New York City and dances with the Cleveland Ballet before opening her first studio in 1978 in Poca in 1978 in Poca with 30 students. She was a Charleston Rockette for the WV Rockets. She outgrew the Poca Town Hall and opened another studio in Winfield in 1990. Kelle and her students won many national titles. She has touched the lives of thousands of young people through the years.
Surviving: husband and lifelong companion, Bob Boggs; son, Shawn Boggs of Teays Valley; daughter Deana McNeil and her husband, Eddie of Poca; brother, Jerry J. McGinn of Dunbar; the “apples of her eye,” granddaughters, Ashton and Cheyenne McNeil.
Service was held Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. John McCoy officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest, Poca.
James A. McClanahan
James Attison A. McClanhan, 87, of Poca died September 4, 2003, at home peacefully in his sleep.
He was a wonderful father, a caring husband, and an inspiring teacher and friend to thousands of students from the Poca area.
He was born near Poca River, and walked seven and a half miles to an from Poca High School. He and his brother had to climb three hills and cross Poca River to a jon boat. He graduated from Poca High School in 1933. He graduated from Morris Harvey, Marshall and Ohio State with numerous degrees.
He was Putnam County’s candidate for West Virginia Teacher of the Year in 1975 and 1976. West Virginia Science Teachers Association named him Science Teacher of the Year in 1970. Society of Sigma Xi chose him as West Virginia Teacher of the Year in 1979. He won the 1984 Presidential Award for Excellence in science teaching which brought a $5,000 grant for scientific equipment to the school and a trip to Washington for himself and his wife to receive the award.
He was a member of the Poca Baptist Church, charter member of Poca Lions Club, a member of Kanawha Valley Archaeological Society, Kanawha Rock and Gem Club, Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies, the Putnam IOOF #85, and the Upper Vandalia Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Estil and Carrie Withrow McClanahan, brothers, Arnold and Denver, and great-granddaughter, Jessi Vinson.
Surviving: wife, Louvella O. McClanahan; daughters, Lucile Foster of Charleston and Edrie Lee Vinson of Denver, Colorado; sister, Alice Woodall Shafer of Nitro; brothers, Roy McClanahan of Nitro and Woodrow McClanahan of Dunbar; grandchildren, Thom Vinson and Leann Vinson-Cardinell, both of Eastsound, Washington, and David Foster of Morton, Illinois; one great-granddaughter, Terri Vinson.
Service was held Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Poca High School with Pastor Jim Butcher officiating. Entombment was in Haven of rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen B. Conner
Helen Burch Tucker conner, 92, of Scott Depot, formerly of Dunbar, died September 4, 2003, at Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
Helen was born January 15, 1911 in Otter Branch, Putnam County, to the late C.W. and Mamie Burch. In her early years, she was a member of Baptist Temple in Charleston and later became a member of McKinnon Presbyterian Church in Charleston, actively served as Sunday school teacher and church elder. She was president of, and had been awarded lifetime membership in, Mckinnon Presbyterian Women of the Church. She was retired from Valley Bell Dairy, Charleston. She was a former member of Dunbar Women’s Club and the Order of The Eastern Star. She had also volunteered her time to Kanawha Hospice Care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Tucker and W.D. Conner, brother, Stanley Burch, infant sister, Haxel Burch, and grandson, Wayne Moulder.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, R.L. “Bob” and Mary Ann Tucker of Dinbar; son, E.W. “Ed” Tucker of Hurricane; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dennis Moulder of Scott Depot; grandchildren, Robin Tucker And Susan McIntyre, both of Charleston, Rudy Moulder of Hurricane, Cathy Crabtree of Eleanor, and Thomas Tucker of Hurricane; great-grandchildren, Emmie and Ty McIntyre, Peyton Moulder and Madison Crabtree.
Service was held Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Ed Thompson and the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Santina M. Ciccarello
Santina Marie Ciccarello, 79, of Hurricane died Friday, September 5, 2003, at home.
She was a registered nurse and a resident of the Kanawha Valley for 60 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, Charleston. She attended East Bank High School and graduated from Mount Hope High, where she was valedictorian. She was a graduate of the Charleston General School of Nursing and was also a member of the Charleston General School of Nursing Alumni Association, the East Bank Reunion Committee and the Woods and Irons Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Felix Nicosia, brothers, Alfonso Nicosia and Charles Nicosia.
Surviving: husband, Vincent E. “Jimmy” Ciccarello Sr.; daughter, Stephanie C. Kettendorf and her husband, Henry, of Hilliard, Ohio; son, Vincent E. Ciccarello Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Denver, North Carolina; grandchildren, Kristopher H. Kettendorf and Elizabeth A. Reichert.
Service was held Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral with Father P. Edward Sadie officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park Mausoleum. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.

Ora Mae Vickers Harshbarger
On September 3, 2003, God called Ora Mae Vickers Harshbarger, 91, to join her loving husband of nearly 70 yearn Hubert L. Harshbarger, as well as her parents, Florence Mae and Courtney Vickers; brothers, Lawrence and wife, Anna Vickers, and Arthur Vickers; sister, Kathleen and husband George Newman; sons-in-law, Bob Rickard and Jack Davis; and nephews, George Alien and Charles Newman.
Ora was born September 18,1911, and married Hubert on September 23, 1931. They proudly had four children, Louis Mae and husband Billy Conner, Victor Harshbarger, and twin daughters, Jeanette Rickard and her late husband, Bob of Georgia and Annette and husband Merrill Lunsford, grandchildren, Shari and husband, Steve Parsons of Virginia, Brian Davis of Florida, Miriam and husband Dwayne McGhee of Georgia, Martha Rickard of Texas, and Debra Conner of Huntington; and great-grandchildren, Nathan and Joel Parsons of Virginia, and Shari Michelle, Sam Robert and Jeff Langley, all of Georgia.
Ora graduated from Grant District High School (later Milton High), where she was active in Contatas and a writer for the school newspaper. She received a state award for writing the best high school humor column. She was very proud that her high school senior class had poems published in a hard-back book and hers was included. She attended the West Virginia School of Business and quit just days before graduation to marry the love of her life. During World War II, she knitted for the servicemen. Through the years, she was Central School PTA President, active in Milton High School Band Boosters; and a member of Milton United Methodist Church, where she worked with the young people, always welcoming them to her home. She was circle leader and secretary, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Heck Bible Class for 50 years. She attended church faithfully, as long as her health allowed, read her Bible daily and tried to help anyone who came by needing it. She loved to crochet, sew, cook and write poetry. She loved growing flowers. She was a devoted wife who helped her husband in all his endeavors, including reupholstering furniture, photography, cabinet making and printing in which she was final proofreader.
Most of all she was a loving, caring mother and grandmother. Her heart, home and table were always open to her family and anyone else who came visiting. She was thrilled whenever she knew any of them were coming and prepared for the visit in every way possible. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her final joy. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements. Services were held at Milton United Methodist Church, Monday, September 8, 2003, with the Rev. Keith Leap officiating.
Harriett M. Markin McCallister
Harriett M. Markin McCallister, 78, of Barboursville died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, peacefully at home following a long illness. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Rick Glass. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Harriett was born June 14, 1925, at home in Cabell County, WVa, a daughter of the late John M. and Nettie A. Meehling Markin. She was a wife, mother and homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Orvil W. McCallister; one daughter, Nancy C. McCallister Denny of Rainelle, W.Va.; one son, John A. McCallister of Huntington; five grandchildren, Christopher A. Denny, Timothy W. Denny, Sarah E. Denny Allen, Kelsey N. McCallister and Bethany R. McCallister, and four great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.
Mary E. “Eib” Lewis
Mary E. “Eib” Lewis, 86, of Ona went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Friday, September 5, 2003 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born February 18,1917, in Cabell County, W.Va, a daughter of the late Harry and Anzo White. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert “Red” Lewis; sister, Sarah Louise Canfield; and grandson, Jerry Morrison. She was a member of Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, Ona. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Clovis Ray, Barbara “Bobbie” and Allen Waugh and Connie and Lloyd Morrison of Ona; one brother, W.V. “Buddy” White of Ona; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Merrill D. “Shadow” Erwin
Merrill D. “Shadow” Erwin, 74, of Barboursville, passed away on September 2, 2003, at home. Graveside services were held Thursday, September 4, 2003, at Woodmere Memorial Park by the Rev. Rick Brown. He was born on July 24, 1929, in Huntington, a son of the late Othir Dewey Erwin and Hazel Olive Handley Erwin. He was past president of Water Works and Industrial Supply of Huntington and owner of Utility Pipe and Supply of Huntington. He was in the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Erwin and two brothers, Robert and Howard Erwin. He is survived by his wife, Libby Valentine Erwin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Dewayne Cole of Barboursville and Drema and Billy Powell of Barboursville; one brother and his wife, Jerry and Donna Erwin of Huntington; three grandchildren, Erika Ryder and her husband Brent, Ryan Hanna and Madison Powell. Lillian Mae Davies
Lillian Mae Davies, 85, of Ona, W.Va., passed away Monday, September 1, 2003, at her residence. Graveside services were conducted Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the Boone Memorial Park, Madison W.Va. She was born July 25, 1918, in Boone County, a daughter of the late George Kelley and Roma Dolan Miller. She was a member of the Church in the Valley, Milton and was preceded in death by her husband, David William Davies and one son, David William Davies Jr. She is survived by one daughter, Diana Wetenkamp of Lexington, KY.; two sons, John Nicholas Davies and Subagh Khalsa, both of Ona; one sister, Gertrude Chambers and one brother, George Keney Miller Jr., both of Georgia; and three grandchildren, Daniel William Weinstock, Sean Irving Weinstock and Bahadur Rhalsa. Violet May Wallace Chandler
Violet May Wallace Chandler, 79, of Milton, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Friday, August 29, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 31, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, with Minister Doug Minton officiating and eulogy by James Clagg. Burial in Wallace Cemetery, Johns Creek Road, Milton. She was born April 5, 1924, in Mason County, a daughter of the late Dewey and Francis Lykins Wallace. She was employed as a clerk at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Hamlin, W.Va., and was a member of the Hurricane Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jess Chandler, two brothers, Peter C. Wallace and Billy Joe Wallace of Milton, and one sister, Lola Holley. She is survived by four sisters, Virginia Davis of Texas, Thelma Stephenson of Virginia, Nellie Fields and Delores Perry, both of Milton; one brother, Kensey Wallace of Ona; six sisters-in-law, Susie Wallace, Janet Wallace, Sally Adkins, Reble Egnor, Anna Gay Chandler, and Olivine Chandler; two brothers-in-law, Troy Chandler and George Chandler Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice of Huntington for their special caregiving.
