James R. King
James R. King of Red House, formerly of Eleanor and Merritt Island, Florida, died November 2, 2003, in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
He was preceded in death by six siblings, his father and mother, and his ex-wife.
He was a retired supervisor from Brevard County, Florida, and a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving: daughters, Pam King of Eleanor, Jill Snodgrass of St. Albans, and Christine Higginbotham of Cross Lanes; two grandsons; three granddaughters; one great-grandson; four brothers; four sisters; a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial service was held Monday, November 3, 2003, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Jim Boggess officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston WV 25311.
Delmer Lee Burger
Delmer Lee Burger, 79, of Culloden, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 2, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor Mark Finley. Burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane, W.Va. He was born December 10, 1923, in Milton, a son of the late Clarence and Goldie Wallace Burger. He was retired from Union Carbide, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II and attended Sunrise Temple Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Elizabeth Burger; one son, David Lee Burger; and one brother, Paul William Burger. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Robert Smith of Culloden; one granddaughter, Terra King and her husband, Brian; sister-in-law, Ann Burger of Culloden; nephews, Doug Burger, Brent Burger and his wife, Candy, and Mike Burger and his wife, Misty; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Shena, Jason, Chris, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Seth and Sean Burger. Pallbearers were nephews and great-nephews.
Maude Marie Burgess
Maude Marie Burgess, 88, of Barboursville, widow of Harry Burgess, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, in the Inn of Wyngate. She was a homemaker and former owner of Snak Shak Restaurant, Barboursville. Surviving are son, Harry Burgess Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Carolyn Sue Tracey of Honey In the Hills, Fla., Judith Black of Milton and Connie Kelley of Duxbury, Mass.; and a sister, Dova Davidson of Albion Pa. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Douglas Burgess of Sarasota, Fla., and several nieces and nephews, along with a special niece, Mildred Ford. She was a member of Mud River Baptist Church. Funeral service were conducted Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Brent Gibson officiating. Donations to Hospice of Huntington. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
James Albert Cotton
James Albert Cotton, 81, of Huntington passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 1, 2003, at Good Shepherd Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Page. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born January 22, 1922, in Cabell County, West Virginia, son of the late William Luther and Ella Chapman Cotton. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Catherine Chapman Cotton and two brothers, Harry and William Cotton. He was retired owner of Cotton Elevator Company. Mr. Cotton was a member of Good Shepherd Freewill Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir director. Surviving are his wife, Ferrol Ross Cotton; two sons, Welford Lee Cotton and James Roger Cotton of Huntington; stepsons, Ronald Page of Delbarton, W.Va. and Jennings Page of Apple Grove, W.Va.; three daughters, Deloris Seeds of Barboursville, Alesia Adkins of Barboursville and Ramona Rivero of Manassas, Va.; stepdaughter, Rebecca Cabell of Barboursville; brothers, Clifford Cotton of Huntington, Bobby Ray Cotton of Chillicothe, Ohio and Danny Cotton of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Eva Hughes of Chesapeake, Ohio and Carolyn Clay of Huntington; 14 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Floyd B. “Mickey” Davis
Floyd B. “Mickey” Davis, 87, of West Chester, Ohio, formerly of Milton, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 31, 2003. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Eloise Davis for 66 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Clifton Davis, and his mother, Essie Davis, of Milton. He was the father of Mickey Davis and his wife Betty of West Chester, Ohio, Linda Nichols and husband Ted of Greenback, Tenn., and Gary Allen Davis, who greeted him in heaven. He was the grandfather of Sarah Brad and her husband David, Elizabeth Van Damme and her husband Greg, Valerie Jones and her husband John, David Davis and his wife Jennifer, and Michael Nichols. He was the most loved great-grandfather of Michael Brad, Matthew Brad, Emily Davis, Mark Brad, Natalie Davis, Mickey Brad, Colby Jones and Brian Van Damme. He is survived by his sisters, Vivian Bell of Huntington, Gertrude McCroskey of Ona, Kathleen Norris of Huntington, Betty Lue Cline of Englewood, Fla., and Shirley Levisay of Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at Heck Funeral Home Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 with Rev. Bill Davis officiating.
George Henry Schelling
George Henry Schelling, 86, of Milton, formerly of West Unity, Ohio, husband of Golda Marie Greek Schelling, died Saturday, November 1, 2003 in Milton. Also surviving are one son, Ron Schelling of Milton; three grandsons, Matthew Schelling of Omaha, Neb., Benjamin Schelling of Barboursville and Stephen Schelling of Milton; two granddaughters, Catherine Taylor of South Point, Ohio, and Anna Schelling of Milton; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Anna Jean Kissinger of Montpelier, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Clay Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Alvordton, Ohio; burial in Floral Grove Cemetery. Osen Alvin Toppings
Osen Alvin Toppings, 68, of Culloden, W.Va., died Nov. 1, 2003, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alberta Stollings Toppings, and two brothers. He was retired from Orders and Haynes Paving Co., Charleston, W.Va., and a member of Local Union 132. He was a Christian and member of Full Gospel Ministries Church. He is survived by his wife, Fay Toppings; three sons, Harold and Johnie of Culloden, W.Va., and Paul of Mooresville, N.C.; two daughters, Shelia Gillespie of China Grove, N.C., and Sharon Poovey of Maiden, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 11 brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at McGhee Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, W.Va., with Evangelist Eugene Byrd and Evangelist Joe Bias officiating. Burial in Toppings Cemetery, Harvey's Creek, Route 34.
Lance R. Riggs
Lance R. Riggs, 57, of Milton, went home to be with his heavenly father Thursday, October 30, 2003. Lance was born November 4, 1945 in Cabell County West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice McCray Riggs and father, Belvard W. Riggs, grandparents, Carl and Kitty McCray; an aunt Martha J. Lauffer; and a brother-in-law, Don Mundy. Lance leaves behind his best friend and wife, Janie Lowe Riggs; a son, Jacob Riggs and a daughter, Emily Riggs of Milton; a sister and brother-in-law, Laveta and Ray Pfaff; a nephew, Kahlil Pfaff; and a beloved precious grandson, Dylan Andrew Riggs. Lance also leaves behind eight nieces and nephews that he cared for very much and his best friends, Bill Brown, Mickey Miller and Patrick Tucker. Lance was retired from the Corps of Engineers after 32 years of service. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 1, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Bill Davis. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton.
Wilden Darrell Harbour
Wilden Darrell Harbour, 81, of Salt Rock, husband of the late Anna Elizabeth (Stapleton) Harbour went to with the Lord, Wednesday, October 29, 2003. Funeral service were held Friday, October 31, 2003 at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Manford Cass Hutchinson. Burial in Enon Cemetery. He was born September 10, 1922, in Salt Rock, a son of the late Curtis B. and Essie A. (Lucas) Harbour. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marion “Marti” Harbour, four brothers, Russell, James, Curtis “Bill” Jr., Charles Morris and one sister, Arlene Johnson. He was a retired equipment operator of the Valley Camp Coal Co. Survivors include three sons, Wilden “Darrell” Harbour II, Donavon Carroll Harbour and his wife Beverly, Richard Keith “Rick” Harbour and his wife Sandi, all of Salt Rock; five grandchildren, Wilden Harbour and his wife Tiffany of San Antonio, Texas, Beth Ann and her husband James Klaiber of Andis, Ohio, Jim Harbour and his wife Angela, Travis Harbour, Jason “J.R.” Harbour all of Salt Rock; three great-grandchildren, Alex Harbour, Makayla Harbour and Evan Harbour. Also surviving are two brothers, Edward Harbour of Russell, Ky., Winston Keith Harbour of Salt Rock; five sisters, Frennis Harbour, Ouida Pearson of Barboursville, Fern Maynard of Ravenswood, Juanita Adkins and Judy Loudermilk both of Virginia and numerous family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Harris and his office for their kindness and care during Dad's illness.
Belva Mae Shull
Belva Mae Shull, of Milton, went to be with the Lord October 28, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 31, 2003 at Cooper Independent Church with the Rev. Ted Nance officiating. Burial in Bicker Cemetery. She was born August 19, 1934, to the late Charles Wesley and Lizzie Mae Clagg. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hansford W. Shull and a brother, Everett Clagg. She is survived by four sons, Hansford Junior and his wife Margaret, Michael and his wife Brenda, Timmy and his wife Sheila, and David and his wife Pam; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Carlisle V. Morrison
Carlisle V. Morrison, 86, of Milton, W.Va. went to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 25, 2003. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at the Balls Gap Cemetery, Milton, by Pastor Charles Vance and Pastor Paul Meadows. She was born January 14, 1917, in Milton, a daughter of the late A.J. and Elsie Perry Clatterbuck. She was a member of Fort Gay Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Leno C. Morrison. She is survived by one daughter, Charlotte Patterson of Milton; two sons, Clarvil L. Morrison of Milton and Leonard C. Morrison of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two grandsons, Rodney Patterson and his wife Ladonna of Milton and Lee Morrison of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one special great-granddaughter, Christina Salyers, and her husband Shawn of Milton. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 30, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Chuck Elkins and the Rev. Winford Curry officiating. Burial in Enon Cemetery. He was born May 10, 1921 in Milton, WV, a son of the late Clarence and Mabel Stratton. He was also preceded in death by his son, Darrell Stratton and one brother, Dorsey Stratton. He was retired from Devon Gas Company and he attended Zoar Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Opal V. Stratton; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sara Stratton of Milton; six grandchildren; four brothers; three sisters and a host of family and friends.
