Jeffrey L. Wymer
Jeffrey L. Wymer, 44, of Winfield died December 15, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital after an apparent heart attack.
He was born February 4, 1959 in South Charleston, a son of the late Jackie L. and Nell Sue Ball Wymer. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Hilda Wymer, Ellis Lackey, Carl and Phyllis Ball.
He was a member of Winfield United Methodist Church and was director of Elementary Education and director of Technology with Putnam County Schools. He was a former teacher and vice-principal of Winfield Middle School and former principal of George Washington Middle School, Eleanor. He was coach of the Putnam Sparks and West Virginia Dusters, ASA softball teams.
Surviving: wife, Lynn Ann Jeffries Wymer; daughter, Emily Wymer, a student at Fairmont State College; sister, Karen Wymer of Scott Depot; brother, Greg Wymer of St. Albans; grandmother, Mary Lackey of Scott Depot.
A memorial service was held Thursday, December 18, 2003, at Winfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Work officiating. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the WV Dusters Softball, 2745 First Avenue, Huntington WV 25702.

Mary Ruth Gibson
Mary Ruth Gibson, 93, of Hurricane died December 15, 2003, at Valley Center, South Charleston, after a long illness.
She was born October 28, 1910 in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Claude and Myrtle Woodrum Spurlock. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Lavern Gibson.
She was a graduate of Hurricane High School and the Martz Beauty School, Huntington. She was the retired owner/operator of Exclusive Beauty Shop, St. Albans for 25 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hurricane, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 116, Hurricane, and the Senior Bowling League at Towne and Country Lanes, Nitro.
Surviving: daughter, Mary D. Henderson of Scott Depot; son, Robert G. Gibson of Powhaton, Ohio, four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, December 18, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Martha L. Kinder
Martha L. Kinder, 92, of Scott Depot, formerly of Ashford, died December 16, 2003, at Regency Center.
She was a retired Boone County teacher with 39 years of service. She was a member of the Church of God “Holiness,” attended New River College, Morris Harvey College and was a member of WVEA, NEA, and Retired Boone County Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer S. Kinder, and son, Lowell G. Kinder.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Larry D. and Christine Kinder of Scott Depot; daughter-in-law, Shirley Kinder Jones of Blandon, Florida; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Service was held Friday, December 19, 2003, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. John Hathaway officiating. Burial was in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.
Memorial donations may be made to Church of God “Holiness,” PO Box 75, Ashford WV 25009.

Neva Leote Smith
Neva Leote Smith, 95 of Bowood Road, Smithfield, Pennsylvania died November 20, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Reatha Workman.
Mrs. Smith was born February 9, 1908 in Robertsburg, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Charley Jeffers and Sally Jane McCoy Jeffers. She was also preceded in death by her husband Holbert Smith, five children, Jane, Roma, Billy, Peter and Delbert, four grandchildren, one great-grandson, brothers, Neal, Jim, Chuck and Lester, sister, Oma, half brother, John Craig, and half sister, Betty Craig.
She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Old Frame, Pennsylvania.
Surviving: daughters, Reatha Workman of Smithfield, Sally Jackson of Ohio and Marion Murry of Tampa, Florida; son, Charlie Smith of Ohio; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary E. Oldaker of Buffalo, West Virginia; many nieces and nephews.
Interment was in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield.
Information furnished by her niece, Geraldine Hayes of Buffalo.

Leslie A. Johnson
Leslie A. Johnson, 74, of Turkey Ridge, Hurricane, died December 17, 2003, at home after a short illness.
He retired from Conner Steel in 1982 and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. He loved farming and hunting and enjoyed all his family and friends.
Surviving: wife, Phyllis; daughters, Diana Fizer and Penny Morrison; sons, Steve and Richard Johnson; grandchildren, Jamie and Kaylan, all of Turkey Creek; sister, Winona Smith of Huntington.
Service was held Friday, December 19, 2003, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Dottie Sue Miller
Dottie Sue Miller, 62, of Florida, formerly of Poca, died December 15, 2003.
She was preceded in death by her father, Maynard Moss, mother, Eva Guthrie Jeffries; daughter, Sheila Miller Sigman, and son, Douglas Ray Miller.
She was a Protestant, a homemaker, mother and grandmother.
Surviving: children, Dwayne Miller and Eva Kniceley, both of Winfield; sisters, Dora Watson of North Carolina and Janet Meadows of Winfield; grandchildren, Misty, Bailee and Josh.
Service was held Friday, December 19, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Walton.

William A. Henson
William Ansell Henson, 89, of Hurricane, died December 18, 2003,
Born in Putnam County, he was the son of the late Alexander “Bud” and Dora Searls Henson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Virgie Young Henson, brothers, Carl and Bernard Henson, and sister, Audrey Bello.
He was a member of Pleasant View Church of God and retired from DuPont in 1976 with 37 years' service.
Surviving: daughter, Patricia Hodges, and grandson, Charles Hodges, both of Hurricane; brothers, Clyde Henson of Barboursville and Lenny Henson of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Iva Parsons of Culloden.
Service was held Saturday, December 20, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Walter Allen officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Hustion Foster
Hustion Foster, 86, of Scott Depot died December 18, 2003.
Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Jean Leap Frye
Bonnie Jean Leap Frye, 65, of Barboursville, W.Va., died Monday, December 15, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 19, 2003, at Henson Mortuary by the Rev. Gary Hayes. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born April 9, 1938, daughter of Mrs. Bernice Marie Weiford of Milton and the late Woodrow W. Leap. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth F. Frye Jr. on December 10, 2003; and by a brother, Grover Joe Leap. She was a homemaker and graduate of Barboursville High School. Mrs. Frye was a member of the Barboursville Woman's Club, Ladies Shrine of Charleston Eastern Star #95 of Barboursville, Navy Wives' Club, past den mother for Boy Scouts in the Barboursville area and a past Girl Scout troop leader in Barboursville. She is survived by a son, Kenneth F. Frye III of Charleston; a daughter, Debra Muth and her husband Jeff of Barboursville; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Muth Jr. and David Joshua Frye; a sister, Margaret Markin, of Milton; a brother, Max Ivan Leap of Pennsylvania. Rev. Curtis C. Edmonds
Rev. Curtis C. Edmonds, 87, of Milton, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on December 17, 2003, at St. Mary' s Medical Center. He was ordained into the Baptist ministry in 1948. During his many years of service for the Lord, he was pastor of numerous churches throughout the local area. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church of Ona, W.Va. He was a member of the Local 128 Carpenters Union of St. Albans, W.Va., and a retiree of Ed Pat Construction. He was born May 29, 1916 in Cabell County, son of the late Emanuel and Virgie Edmonds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret G. Edmonds, sister Naomi Adams and brothers, Calvin and Carl Edmonds. He is survived by three children, Jimmy and his wife Barbara Edmonds of Milton, Richard and his wife Nancy Edmonds of Milton and Judy Billups of Scott Depot. Also surviving are his brother Garland Edmonds of Huntington and sister Neola Ball of Hurricane. His grandchildren include Karen Bowers, Charles Edmonds, Bobby Edmonds, Michelle Maynard, Derrick Billups and Lisa Beckett. He has 13 great-grandchildren, who are Cody and Cole Bowers, Bradley and Brittany Edmonds, Dustin and Bryanne Edmonds, Justin and James Curtis Maynard, Brad, Beth and Bryce Billups, and Hallie and Taylor Beckett. He has also left many friends who have been touched by his life. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 19, 2003, at The Church in the Valley, Milton, W.Va. with David Ashworth, Tom Lewis and Dr. Stan Maynard officiating the service. Burial in Forest Memorial Park Milton W.Va.

William Humphreys
William Humphreys, 70, of Culloden, husband of Louise Humphreys, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003. He retired from St. Francis Hospital, and was working at Teays Valley Kroger. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene: burial in Graceland Memorial Park, South CharlestonChapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Leonel C. Valerio
Leonel C. Valerio, 74, of Culloden, WV, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the home of his daughter. He was a retired meat cutter from Mansour's Market, Huntington, with 25 years service. He was a member of St. Timothy-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, Hurricane. He was a very active volunteer for Habit for Humanity and a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Valerio was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Opal Valerio and a twin son, Gary Valerio. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Kay and Ricky Dolin of St Albans, W.Va.; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark David and Mary Jane Valerio of Marysville, Ohio and (twin) Ricky Lee Valerio of Scott Depot, WV; brother Anthony Valerio of Hyattsville, Md.; grandchildren Matthew David and Mitchell Walter Valerio, Jason Charles and Chad Anderson Thomas and Gary Christopher Valerio. Funeral services were held Friday, December 19, 2003, at St. Timothy-in-the-Valley Hurricane, with the Rev. Cheryl Winter officiating. Burial in Montgomery Memorial Park, London, W.Va. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Lona Chapman Beatty “Teen”
Lona Chapman Beatty “Teen”, 90, formerly of Milton passed away December 14, 2003, at Regency Place in Scott Depot, W.Va. She was the youngest of fifteen children of Randolph and Sarah Ellen Deal Chapman. Lona was the wife of Leo C. Beatty, deceased 1977. Surviving children are Ivan C. Beatty of St. Albans and Mary Beatty Fisher of Sellersville, PA. Lona leaves five grandchildren: Barbara Beatty, Elisabeth Wijtyszyn, Thomas Fisher, Robert Fisher and Laura Fisher. Lona was a member of the Providence Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 17, at Heck Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Black officiating. Burial in Neal Cemetery.

Shirley A. “Toddy” Shultz
Shirley A. “Toddy” Shultz, 95, of Barboursville, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Eulogy given by her niece, Melanie Mabe. She was born July 19, 1908, in West Hamlin, W.Va., a daughter of the late Eustace and Lena Pearson Adkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon C Shultz; one brother, Kenneth Adkins; five sisters, Virginia VeuCasovic, Glenneth Matz, Mary Triplett, Ruth Edwards and Myrtle Kerwood. She is survived by one sister, Joan C. Pullen of West Hamlin and several nieces and nephews. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Roy Lee Midkiff
Roy Lee Midkiff, 57, of Ona went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 14, 2003, at his residence. Funeral service were conducted Wednesday, December 17, at Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, Ona, with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born June 14, 1946, in Bland, Va., a son of Loretta Midkiff Sword and the late Leroy Midkiff. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Graley Midkiff; one daughter and son-in-law, Starlina and Virgil Black of Ona; one brother, Jay Midkiff of Brooks, Ga.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Kermit Reynolds of Ona, and three grandchildren. Heck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church.

Bertha Ann Stevens
Bertha Ann Stevens, 88, of Apple Grove, widow of Campbell Stevens, died Monday, December 15, 2003 in Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was a retired clothing store manager. Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 19, 2003 at Beale Chapel United Methodist Church; burial in Beale Chapel Cemetery, Apple Grove. Deal Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements.

Phillip Eugene Justice
Phillip Eugene Justice, 45, of Milton, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2003. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at Enon Cemetery. He is the son of Deloris Dailey Justice of Milton and the late Luther “Luke” Justice. Also surviving are two sisters, Connie Washburn of Florida and Deanna Ferguson of Barboursville; and one brother, Terry Justice of Florida. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Albert Clagg
Albert Clagg, 98, of Milton went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 15, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 18 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born April 14, 1905, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late James and Atlanta Spurlock Clagg. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Wilson Clagg and his daughter, Almeda Hickman. He is survived by three daughters, Rosa Hickman, Evelyn Meadows and Wanda Chapman all of Milton; two sons Everett Jr. Clagg and Elmer Gene Clagg, both of Milton and one sister, Vada Clark Conner of Milton.

Charles V. Townsend
Charles V. Townsend, 71, of Scott Depot died December 7, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital.
Born May 29, 1932 in Cannelton, he was a son of the late Herbert Vaughn and Gladys Marie Walker Townsend. He was a member and trustee of Judson Baptist Church, Winfield, and was retired from Ford Motor Company, Brookpark, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by hs son, Charles J. Townsend, his sisters, Zella Bradshaw and Betty Atkins, and his brother, Danny Townsend.
Surviving: wife, Jo Ann Gulley Townsend; daughter, Kathy McMurray and her husband, Dale, of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Allen Townsend and his wife, Susanne, of Elyria, Ohio; sister, Winnie Atkins of West Lake, Ohio; brothers, Harold Townsend of Grafton, Ohio and James Townsend of Ashtabula, Ohio; grandchildren, Megan and Erin McCurray and Jacob Townsend.
Service was held Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Judson Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred McCallister officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Odis H. Bailey
Odis H. Bailey, 85, of Hurricane died December 7, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane and retired from Union Carbide, Institute Plant.
Surviving: wife, Delma; daughters, Jean Allen and Mary McGehee and her husband, Doug, of Hurricane; son, Gerald L. Bailey of Red House; sister, Bonnie Mackall of Clarksburg; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, December 11, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jim McGehee and Dr. Charles Hendricks officiating. Entombment was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
