Survivors include his wife, Joyce Sullivan Akers, Jamestown, KY; one son, Mike Akers, Lexington, KY; one daughter, Sandy Bell, Crestwood, KY; two sisters, Eva Shary, Hampton, VA and Vera Knight, Mt. Washington, KY; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the Fairview Separate Baptist Church with Bro. Donnie Coffey officiating. Interment was in the Akers Cemetery. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Vester Alley, 93,
Columbia, KY passed away Monday, March 2, 2003 after several months of illness. He was the son of the late James Henry “Jim” and Mary Vertie (Cravens ) Alley of Adair County, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rissie Florence Rooks Alley on August 7, 1997. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd and Marlene Alley, Columbia, KY; one sister, Edna Kimbler Miesse, Columbia, KY; three grandchildren, Timmy Alley, Darwin Alley, and Angela Hargis; six great grandchildren, Dustin Alley, Anthony Alley, Megan Hargis, Daniel Alley, Rion Alley and Landon Hargis. Funeral services were Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Willard Bryant and Rev. Glen Richardson officiating. Interment was in the Free Union Cemetery. Pallbearers were Timmy Alley, Darwin Alley, Dustin Alley, Anthony Alley, Darien Hargis, and Danny Rooks. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gerald Atchley, 58,
Of Casey County, formerly of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2003 at the Casey County Hospital in Liberty, KY. He was the son of the late Rufus and Katie Burton Atchley. He is survived by one brother, Albert Atchley, Indiana; and one sister, Naomi Collins, Jamestown, KY. Funeral services were Sunday, January 12, 2003 in the chapel of the Rippetoe Funeral Home with Bro. Stan Milby officiating. Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Rippetoe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Arva “Doc” Auterson, 73,
Of the gosser Ridge Community of Russell County, husband of Janet Auterson, a retired factory worker died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. He was an avid bluegrass musician and member of the New Pleasant Point Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by three sons, Michael Auterson, Richmond, KY, Stacy Auterson and Brandon Lee Auterson, both of Russell Springs, KY; two brothers, Virl Auterson, Lexington, KY and Clifford Auterson, Russell Springs, KY; three sisters, Vineta Roy, Ingle, KY, Betty Smith, Russell Springs, KY and Vondell Abrams, Russell Springs, KY; three grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 21, 2003in the chapel of Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Delvin Wilson and Bro. Kenneth Hammond officiating. Interment was in the Pine Grove Cemetery on Gosser Ridge. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Glenda Baird, 56,
Of the Eli Community, passed away August 8, 2003 at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Elmer Lee and Maryeda Collins Fields.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Baird, Russell Springs, KY; one son, Neil Castle, Russell Springs, KY; four brothers, James Wendell (Dottie) Dennison, Columbia, TN, Delmar Lee (Bridget) Fields, Gerald (Pamela) Fields, and Keith (Linda) Fields, all of Lexington, KY; one granddaughter, Sierra Nicole Kimmell; four nieces and four nephews also survive. Funeral services were Sunday, August 10, 2003 in the chapel of Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Coffey officiating. Special music was provided by by Todd Baird, Linda Baird, Wayne Baird, and Starlen Foley. Interment was in the McBeath Cemetery. Pallbearers were Troy Dykes, Kevin Franks, Dewayne Dennison, Randy Baird, Daniel Garland, Steve Babak, Mike Baird, and Jordan Veach. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Marie Baird, 90,
Cincinnati, OH, widow of Arnold Baird, passed away, Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. She is survived by six sons, Wayne Baird, Croley Baird and Larry Baird, all of Russell Springs, KY, Jack Baird, Chester Baird, and Robert Baird, all of Cincinnati, OH; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive. Russell Springs, KY, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. She was the widow of Ben Barnett. Survivors include four sons, James Barnett, Franklin, IN, Gene Barnett, Leon Barnett, and Arlo Barnett, all of Russell Springs, KY; five daughters, Shirley Gillian, Whiteland, IN, Rose Wariner, Jamestown, KY, Susie York, Earlene Richardson and Justine (Odel) Johnson, all of Russell Springs, KY; one brother, Loren Simpson, Newcastle,IN; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Tuesday, August 5, 2003 in the chapel of Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Richie Curtis officiating. Interment was in the Rexroat Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby J. Bell, 69,
Passed away at his home on Thursday, August 7, 2003 after a long battle with leukemia. He was born on March 8, 1934 and preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Alta Bell, one son, Ronnie and one sister, Donna Bell. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Faye Head Bell; three sons, Robert, Jimmie. and Ernie Bell, all of New Albany, IN; three brothers, Ernest (Patty) Bell, Russell Springs, KY, Willie Bell and Stevie (Cathy) Bell, both of Jamestown, KY; eight sisters, Opal Foley, Carol Claborn, both of Russell Springs, KY, Peggy (Earl) Popplewell, Francis (Roy) Garner, Delores (Jacky) Mann, Marge Pickett, all of Jamestown, KY, Helen Flowers, Pierson, FL, Linda Huddleston, Louisville, KY; two grandchildren and one great grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews. Bobby was a former Tree Expert with Asphlund and a construction worker for Naegel Outdoor of Indianapolis, Bobby was a true outdoorsman. Services were conducted by Bro. Leon Simpson Honorary pallbearers were Clifty Creek Home Owners Members, Mark Helm, Jeff Foley, Billy J. Conner, Doug Capps, Brandon Andrew, Stacy franklin, and Sean Sterrett. Pallbearers were John Flowers, Pete Flowers, Mark Robinson, Ronnie Lawless, Mike Copler, Justin Stearns, Stevie Bell, Robbie Bell, and Daniel Bell. Interment was in the Kean Cemetery in Jamestown, KY. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Angela Bernard, 85,
Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Russell County, passed away, Monday, June 2, 2003 at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was a machine operator for Empire Products. She was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include one son, Ron (Pat) Bernard, Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Roy Flanagan, Morehead, KY; one sister, Thelma Brown, Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren, Amber (John) Baas and Eric Wayne Bernard; and one step grandson, Matthew Baas. She was proceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Coy Flanagan, Mervin Flanagan, Virgie Oakley, Elsie Hatfield, Margaret Hatfield, Opal Whittle and Mabel Flanagan. Funeral services will be Friday, June 6, 2003 in the chapel of Bernard Funeral Home and the Brothers Billy and Johnny Dunbar will officiate. Special music will be by Diane Hughes and Bobby Dunbar. Interment will be in the Lucenda Cemetery.
Friends may call for visitation after 5:00 pm on Thursday, June 5, 2003. Bernard Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Emogene Blakey Blair, 79
Of the Esto Community of Russell County, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, July 16, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Blair, a daughter, Lois Ann Delk and grandchildren, Jill Blair, Amanda Blair, and Kim Delk. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Roger and Judy Blair, Russell Springs, Ky, Dean and Charlene Blair, Campbellsville, KY and Larry and Pat Blair, Columbia, KY; two daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Randy Ford, Elizabethtown, KY and Lesa and David McDonald, Russell Springs, KY; one brother, Rev. Vernon Blakey, Russell Springs, KY and one sister, Flora Lee Hadens, both of Russell Springs, KY; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Gena Delk, David and Carol Delk, Hope and Lonnie Antle, Summer and Chris Bell, Misty Blair, Brea Blair, Jason Ford, and Crystal McDonald; Great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Delk, Caleb Delk, Adam Delk, Katie Delk, Jamison Meece, Zachary Meece, Morgan Antle, Ashley Antle, Candace Antle, Shelby Bell, Hannah Bell, and Hadley Ford. Funeral services were Friday, July 18, 2003 in the chapel of the Rippetoe Funeral Home with Bro. Roy Dean Helm officiating. Special music was provided by Dean and Sheila McKinley. Interment was in the Wolford Cemetery. Pallbearers were David and Mike Delk, Lonnie Antle, Chirs Isell, Mike Grider, Jason Ford, Terry and Lewis Loy, Bobby Bryant, Len Baldock and Mark Blakey. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of a donation to Hospice of Lake Cumberland. Rippetoe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys Blair, 89,
Of the Fairview Community, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Emmett and Martha Crawford Gilbert and the widow of C.E. Blair. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Emmett Blair, West Palm Beach, FL and Wayne Blair, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; three daughters, Virginia Bernard and Brenda McGowan, both of Russell Springs, KY and Martha Holder; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Helena Faye Beatty, one brother, Alson Gilbert, her husband C.E. Blair. Funeral services were Monday, June 16, 2003 in the chapel of the Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. John C. Wilson and Bro. Frank Merrill officiating. Special music was provided by Osborne Roy, Janice Popplewell and Wilma Eller. Pallbearers were Chris Shoreder, Todd McGowan, Erik Wesley, Mark Rogers, Andy Turner and Tony Marshall. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Timothy Louis Blair, Ph.D., 39,
Of Morehead, KY, formerly of Russell County, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2002 in Midway, KY. He was a chemistry professor at the Maysville Community College, and a member of the Baptist faith. Dr. Blair received his B.S. degree from Western Kentucky University and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Angela Fultz Blair; one son, Morgan Louis Blair; and one daughter, Madison Lee Blair, all of Morehead, KY; his mother, Sue Johnson Blair, Russell Springs; one sister, Tami Hart, Nicholasville, KY; his paternal grandmother, Louise Blair, Russell Springs, KY; his maternal grandmother, Gertie Popplewell, Gertie Popplewell Johnson, Russell Springs, KY and one nephew, Jordan Hart, Nicholasville, KY. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Louis Blair. Funeral services were Friday, January 3, 2003 in the chapel of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Dr. Dan Mantooth officiating. Interment was in the Fultz Cemetery in Carter County. Pallbearers were Mike Fultz, Adam Snipes, Roger Hart, Matt Johnson, Kevin Blair, and Greg Wells. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals was in charge of the arrangements.

Murrell Brown, 60,
Jamestown, KY passed away Saturday, August 23, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. He was a Jamestown City employee. Survivors include his wife, Mary Bell Brown; his mother, Opal Brown; five sons, Jerry Brown, Wayne Brown, Barry Brown, Randy Brown, all of Jamestown, KY and Mark Brown, Russell Springs, KY; four daughters, Sharonq Logan, Sherry Miller, Marilyn Burchett, Joanna Burchett, all of Jamestown, KY; one brother, Glen Hall, Russell Springs, KY; a sister, Lorene Pierce, Russell Springs, KY; 23 grandchildren and one great grandchild.also survives. Funeral services were Monday, August 25, 2003 in the chapel of H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel with Bro. Dale Brown officiating. Interment was in the Jamestown Cemetery. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Velma Annie Brown, 76
Formerly of Pioneer Village, Ky was born September 17, 1926 to the late Thomas Elmer and Estella Willis Foley Rexroat in Russell County, Kentucky. She returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 2, 2003 in Liberty, Ky with her daughters by her side. She was a faithful member of Blue Lick United Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughters, Diana C. Ray, Jefferson Co., Sherry L. Smith, Russell Springs, KY and Kimberly J. Grimestaff, Bullit Co.; eight children; sixteen grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester “Ted” Brown in March of 1996. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the Blue Lick United Baptist Church with Bro. Roy Wilson officiating and Bro. Joey Hall leading the singing. Interment was in the Highland Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were Freddie West, Gregory West, Bradley West, Randy Walters, Rex Wilson, and Danny Stamboro. Schoppenhurst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lillian Burgess, 77
Russell Springs, KY passed away Friday, July 18, 2003 at her residence. She was a retired inspector for Russell Sportswear and a member of the Russell Springs Church of God. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Burgess, Russell Springs, KY; one daughter, Cletta McKinney, Russell Springs, KY; her mother, Geneva George, Windsor, KY; one granddaughter, Kelly Adcock, Nashville, TN; two great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Holland, Kent, OH; and six step-children, Sandra Loehle, Tullahoma, TN, Pamela Kay Proctor, Elizabethtown, KY, Bill Burgess and Jimmy Burgess, both of Creelsboro, KY, Gary Burgess, Russell Springs, KY and Joe Burgess, Wilmore, KY; 14 step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wendell Dabney, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services were Sunday, July 20, 2003 in the chapel of Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Chester Hatton officiating. Special music was provided by Dean McKinley. Interment was in the Clear Springs Cemetery. Glenna Jean Russell Catazano, 73
Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday, August 4, 2003 at the Laurel Heights Nursing Home in London, KY. She was the daughter of the late Hazel Wildred Deerking Russell and Elvert Russell and the widow of the late Peter Fred Catazano. She was a factory worker by trade. Survivors include one daughter, Roseann Blevins, Somerset, KY; two brothers, Dale Russell and Fred Russell, both of Russell Springs, KY; three sisters, Dorothy Elsner, Mildred Lynch, and Violet Russell, all of Russell Springs, KY; and two grandchildren, Robert Lee Blevins and Glenn Blevins, both of Somerset, KY. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabel Simmons and Beatrice Heavy and by three brothers, Delmer, Raymond and Garold Russell. Funeral services were Wednesday, August 6, 2003 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Larold Gosser officiating. Interment was in the McBeath Cemetery. Myers, FL, Shirley Latta, Richmond, KY, Janice Freeman, Louisville, KY and Reba Handy, Louisville, KY; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Natalie Polston, both of Jamestown, KY. Funeral services were Sunday, June 8, 2003 in the chapel of H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel with Bro. Jessee Jewell officiating. Interment was in the Murray Cemetery. Columbia, KY, formerly of Russell County, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at the North Point of Lexington Health Care Center. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence E. and Willie Pearl Carnes Stapp and she was a homemaker and a member of the Hayes Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, Joe Bruce Chapman, Bardstown, KY, Eugene Chapman, Columbia, KY and Roger Chapman, Elizabethtown, KY; three daughters, Lacona Haggan, Elizabethtown, KY, Margaret McKeon, Radcliff, KY, Helen Ballenger, Elizabethtown, KY; one brother, Adrian “Dee” Stapp, Edinburgh, IN; one sister, Mary White, North Vernon, IN; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were Friday, August 8, 2003 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Vernon Blakey officiating. Interment was in the Hayes Chapel Cemetery. Linda Rae Coe, 60,
Jamestown, KY passed away Saturday, June 21, 2003. She was a Chief Deputy Circuit Clerk of Russell County and District Courts from 1975 -1987 and 1994 to present. Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Scott Coe, Jamestown, KY; one daughter, Shiela Lynn Longbauer, Jamestown, KY; one sister, Barbara Frueghtenicht, Birmingham, AL; and one grandson, Jeremy Coe; also surviving are the The Special Girls. Funeral services were Tuesday, June 24, 2003 in the chapel of H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel with Bro. Tony Stephens and Bro. Monroe Robertson officiating. Interment was in the Jamestown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tony Kerr, Jeff Hoover, Gary C. Robertson, Larry Gadberry, Charles Shepherd, Don Byrom, and Bruce Johnson. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
