Bess Webb Robinson
Mrs. Bess Webb Robinson, age 100, died Thursday, May 25, 2006. She was born in Holston, VA on February 17, 1906 and was a daughter of the late John Webb and Gertrude Little Webb. She graduated from the Johnston Memorial Hospital Nursing School and was married to the late William Frank Robinson for 38 years. Mrs. Robinson moved around the state of Virginia while her husband worked as a civil engineer for the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation.
Survivors include her only child, Betty Robinson Burlas and husband Joseph of Marietta, GA; grandsons, Joseph Burlas, III and wife Erika of Columbia, MD; William Burlas and wife Anne of Marietta, GA.; granddaughter, Becki Shannon and husband Patrick of Marrietta, GA; sister, Maiden Webb of Glade Spring, VA ; sister-in-law, Nila Webb of Chilhowie; nine great-grandchildren: Joseph,IV; Jimmie, Veronika, Rachel, Billy, Katie, and Michael Burlas, and Kasey and Holt Shannon. Mrs. Robinson was close with her nieces, Mary Jane Webb Rush and Jean Craig Keister; and nephews, Eddie and David Sheffield and Edwin Craig and several great nieces and great nephews.
Mrs. Robinson was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, Home Demonstration Club, and a volunteer at the Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, VA, prior to moving back to Southwestern VA.
The family expresses grateful appreciation to caregivers Mary Thomas, Zola Nelson, Katie Blevins, Deena Barrow and for the care provided by Hospice of Southwestern Virginia workers.
The funeral service will be held at Byars-Cobb United Methodist Church in Glade Spring at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 29, 2006 with Pastor Bob Neace officiating. Interment
will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joseph Burlas, III, William (Robbie) Burlas, Patrick Shannon, Edwin Sheffield, Sr. David Sheffield, Charles (Woody) Rush, Edwin Craig, and Jimmy Sisk. John Charles Brown, Sr.
Mr. John Charles Brown, Sr., age 59, died Friday, May 26, 2006 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a former resident of Toledo, Ohio, where he had been employed at the Toledo Ohio Horse Race Track. After moving to Abingdon, he was employed by Reynolds Metals and Washington County. Mr. Brown was a member of the Abingdon Moose Lodge and was a longtime carpenter and furniture maker. He was a U. S. Army veteran, having served in Germany. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his father, Clarence P. Brown; one sister, Stella Mae Uselton; and one brother, Steve Allison Brown.
Survivors include his mother, Verna Mae Brown of Abingdon; two sons: John C. Brown, Jr. and Jason L. Brown, both of Toledo, OH; three daughters: Amy J. Vogal, Janet R. Brown and Mary A. Brown, all of Toledo, OH; three brothers: Donald T. Brown of Abingdon; Albert P. Brown and wife Betty of Abingdon; and Clifton Ray “Rabbit” Brown and wife Karen of Abingdon; one sister, Georgia A. Lewis and husband Jim of Abingdon; ten grandchildren: Megan, Jordan, Julia, Tyler, Jeremy, Ryan, Allison, Amber, Zach and Drew; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog Hobo.
Funeral services for Mr. John Charles Brown, Sr., will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Les Ketron officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Highlands Fellowship Honor Color Guard. Active pallbearers will be Gayle Kennedy, Richard Necessary, Dwayne South, Don Brown, Larry Hall and Marshall Lewis. Honorary bearers will be Jim Lewis, his nephews, and his flea market buddies. Leonard Von Willis
Mr. Leonard Von Willis age 71, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 27, 2006. He was born in Dickenson County, Virginia and had lived in Washington County since 1976. He was the oldest son of Barlow Willis and the late Thelma Willis. He was a U. S. Army veteran, retiring after serving 26 years, and he had served in Vietnam and the Korean Conflict. After retiring, he served as a veteran’s representative for the Commonwealth of Virginia for ten years. He was a member of the Abingdon Baptist Church and also held the Commissioner of Kentucky Colonel. Leonard was the Chaplain of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge AF & AM Lodge #148, the Desert Sand Shriner’s Club, and presently was serving as Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #182. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Patton Crosswhite VFW #6975. He is survived by:

Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens with a masonic service by the Abingdon Masonic Lodge#148 and military rites by the Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post #6975. Carmel "Hoover" Lane
Mr. Carmel “Hoover” Lane, age 77. went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 27, 2006, at his home in Abingdon. He was born in Wise County, Virginia, son of the late Fred and Ora Lane. He was a retired coal miner and a loving husband and father. Mr. Lane was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son and daughter-in-law, Billy Harold and Sandra Lane, and by one sister, Zola Lane Riner.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Polly Hamilton Lane; eight sons: Larry Lane and wife Carolyn of Newport News, VA; Allen Lane and wife Vickie of Coeburn, VA; Paul Lane and wife Nina Sue of Wise, VA; Vernon Lane and wife Trula of Wise; Johnny Lane and wife Robin of Abingdon; Clement (Bo) Lane and wife Lisa of Abingdon; Ricky Lane and wife Kelly of Abingdon; and Glenn Lane and wife Carla of Gray, TN; five daughters: Norma Lane Hubbard of Kingsport, TN; Rebecca Lane Cantrell and husband Ronnie of Wise; Patsy Lane Cantrell and husband Curtis (Toad) of Wise; Wanda Lane Roberts and husband Lester of Wise; and Elizabeth Lane Rowe and husband Fred of Rowe, VA; one brother: Odell Pete Lane and wife Hilda of Pound, VA; two sisters: Zelda Lane of Wise, and Evalee Lane Hubbard and husband Curtis of Wise; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Glen Booth Hash
Mr. Glen Booth “Bud” Hash, age 68, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Bud was loved by everyone who knew him and was known for his since of humor,which he kept right up until his death. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and friend who gave everything of himself and expected nothing in return.
He was a native of Washington County, Virginia, son of the late Willam Robert and Alice Ashley Hash. Bud was a U.S. Army veteran of 23 years, retiring as Master Sergeant, and he had served in both Korea and Vietnam. Bud had also retired after 20 years from the U.S. Postal Service in Bristol. He was a lifetime member of the Damascus V.F.W. and a member of the Abingdon Moose Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Everett Hash.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Logan and Dr. Gable at the Konnarock Health Clinic, the doctors at the Damascus Health Clinic; Dr. Stephen Wayne and staff, the doctors and nurses at Wellmont Bristol Regional, and Dr. Carress of Wake Forest University Medical Center.
Mr. Hash is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Lois Ann Hash; his son William Robert (Bill) Hash and his fiancée Trish Sutherland of Piney Flats, TN; his daughter Jamie Hash Dickenson and her husband Barry of Bristol, VA; four brothers: Estel Hash, Orville Hash, Con Hash and Don Hash; three sisters: Bernice Barr, Louise Bronson and Margaret Burnett; and five grandchildren: Chandler Dickenson, Jessica Sutherland, Colton Dickenson, Christopher Sutherland and Chase Dickenson. He is also survived by his good friends, Bud Rhudy and Bobby Cooper.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Glen “Bud” Hash will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Green Cove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Charles E. “Jody” Blevins and Rev. Harlan Greer officiating. Those going to the service are invited to meet at Farris Funeral Service by 3:00 p.m. to go in procession. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Bristol V. F. W. Honorguard. There will be a dinner served immediately following the graveside funeral service for the the family and friends of Bud. This will be at the Green Cove Community Center.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons Colton Dickenson and Chan Dickenson, nephews Bruce Barr, Bobby Barr and Richard Barr, and Bobby Cooper. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Stephen Wayne, Patton Jones, Bud Rhudy, Billy Burnette, Harold Wilcox, Calvin Hash and grandson Chase Dickenson.

Harry Oscar Adams
Mr. Harry Oscar Adams, age 75, passed away Monday, May 29, 2006 at his home.
Mr. Adams was born June 6, 1930 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late James Oscar and Ethel Taylor Adams. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving as a Corporal in the United States Army. He was a life time member of the Disabled American Veterans and served as chaplain. Mr. Adams is a life member of the American Legion, served as Glade Spring vice Mayor, P.T.A. of Glade Spring Elementary School and Patrick Henry High School, charter member of Glade Spring Fire Department, member of the Lions Club, Boy Scout Troop Leader and assistant troop leader. Mr. Adams was a member of Glade Spring Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir and served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Adams is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George Adams, John Adams, Robert Adams, and one sister, Sarah Kent.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife Betty Adams, one son, John Adams and his wife Michelle of Glade Spring, one sister, Martha Revette, New Rochelle, New York, two step-grandchildren, Courtney Rouse, and Scott Rouse, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Glade Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Blazer and officiating. Entombment will follow in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 1, 2006 at Glade Spring Baptist Church from 6 – 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Bobby Painter, Scott Rouse, David Mitchell, Steve Shortridge, Tony Edmondson, and Tommy Debusk. Monique Aaron White
Monique Aaron “Nikki” White, age 32, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2006, at the Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, after a long and courageous battle.
Nikki was an individual who enjoyed life and the many joys and blessings that it presented to her. She had a great appreciation and love for music as well as reading and writing. She also enjoyed being outdoors, leading an active lifestyle of running and exercising.
Nikki was an honor graduate of Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN. She continued to be an honor student throughout her education while attending East Tennessee State University and received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She had lived and worked in Austin, Texas before moving back to Bristol to help establish the family business, Absolute Tree Farm in Bluff City, TN.
She was a member of the State Street United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Horne.
Nikki was the cherished daughter of Gail and Tony Deal of Bristol, TN. She was the light of her mother’s life, and the two of them shared a special bond of love and friendship. Nikki is also survived by her maternal grandfather, Bruce Horne of Bristol, VA; her devoted friend, Brittney Hill of Bristol, TN; her dog, Hugo; a very special aunt, Bridget Lane of Lookout Mountain, GA; her paternal grandparents, Edsel and Imogene Deal of Ducktown, TN; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Nikki White will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2006, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA, with MJ Tucci and Rev. Reed Shell officiating. Entombment will be in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Nancy Elizabeth Clifton
Nancy Elizabeth “Granny” Clifton, age 88, died Sunday, May 28, 2006 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Abingdon Church of Christ for 55 years and was the last surviving sibling of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Clifton; a daughter, Shirlene Nerren; a grandson, David Nerren; a son-in-law, Tommy Nerren; eight brothers and sisters and a step daughter, Christine Rutledge.
Survivors include: Son – Mike Clifton and wife Jenny of Abingdon, Va.; Grandson – Steve Nerren and wife Amy of Bristol Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at the Abingdon Church of Christ with Mr. Bill Haywood officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Don Minnick, Jim Odum, Don Fleenor, Mack Powers, Roland Roe and Hank Odum. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Abingdon Church of Christ.

Minor Limmie Little
Mr. Minor Limmie Little, age 52 passed away Monday, May 29, 2006 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and attended The Reach for Christ Chapel in Abingdon,VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ava Little.
Survivors include his sisters, Mary Fields and husband, Jim, Linda Price and husband, Jimmy, Patricia Little and special friend, Russell Hathaway all of Abingdon, VA, several nieces and nephews.

Peggy Lynn Parris
Mrs. Peggy Lynn Parris, age 51, went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2006 after a lengthy illness. Peggy was a registered nurse for over 25 years at Johnston Memorial Hospital; she received her bachelors’ of science degree from Virginia Highlands Community. She attended Denton Valley Baptist Church.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents Cline and Oma Edwards Mullins, and one sister, Ruth Ann Pringle.
Peggy survived by her husband, Larry Parris, one daughter, Lisa Adkins and special son-in-law, Jon Adkins of Meadowview. The love of her life her grandchildren, Jarrett Adkins and Trinity Adkins. Two brothers, Gary Mullins and wife, Patty of Meadowview, Bill Mullins and his wife, Stephanie of Glade Spring, three sisters, Nancy Keen and her husband, James, Katy Jones, and Doris Horn and her husband, Jim all of Glade Spring. Several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Phyllis Litton, Tonya Montgomery, and Freda Morseberger, all her new friends and family she has made while attending Denton Valley Baptist Church, and the nursing staff of Home Health Nursing of Abingdon.

Matthew Joseph Seiler
Mr. Matthew Joseph Seiler, age 88 passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006. He was a former resident of New Jersey and Pennsylvania before retiring to Abingdon with his wife 14 years ago. Mr. Seiler was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army.
His wife, Violet Mary Seiler preceded him in death in February 2005.
Survivors include a step-son and his wife, William P. and Mary Ellen Paschick, New Jersey, two brothers, William A. Mary Bucchi Borovich, 91, of Abingdon went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 30, 2006. She was born March 30, 1915 in Rayland, Ohio, the first daughter of Fiore and Julia Bucchi. She lived in McComas, West Virginia most of her life moving to the Abingdon area nine years ago.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George Borovich; a great grandson, David Ryan Thomas; brothers, Nick, George, Charlie, Albert, Amado, Richard, Tony, Fred and John; sisters Rosa Kirk and Fumia Petrey.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Garrett of Abingdon; two granddaughters, Brenda G.
