Kathy Lynn Rhudy
Kathy Lynn Rhudy, age 52, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2006 in Wellmont Hospice House. Kathy was born August 11, 1953 in Tacoma Park, Maryland to Luther and Wilma Dunn Miller. Kathy had lived most of her life in Abingdon, where she was employed by Washington County Social Services and for the past seventeen years with the Washington County Health Department. Kathy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Damascus.
Kathy is survived by her parents Luther and Wilma Miller of Abingdon, one son, Sam Rhudy, II, and his wife Crystal of Bristol, Tennessee.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday June 17, 2006 at 7:30 P.M. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Evangelist Michael S. McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday June 17, 2006 from 6:00 P.M. until time for service. The committal service will be held 1:00 P.M. Sunday June 18, 2006 in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, everyone is asked to assemble at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Smith, Tim Howard, John Humphreys, Alan Hurley, Jamie Craig, Brain Stewart

Mary Vinyard Sapp
Mary Vinyard Sapp, age 90, died Monday, June 19,2006, at Grace Healthcare, Abingdon, Virginia after a short illness.
A native of Houston, Delaware, she was the daughter of Edgar and Irene Vinyard. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Frank L. Sapp ,her sister, Ann Vinyard Pace and brother, David Vinyard. A life long member of the Eastern Star, Mrs. Sapp was also a longtime member of the Houston Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the Goldey Beacom Business College, and worked after graduation for the Wilmington Trust Company. She and Her husband lived for many years in Wilmington, Delaware before moving to Abingdon, Virginia where she lived at 331 White Street. After her husbands death she moved to Baysmont Retirement Center in Kingsport, Tn. She and her husband were avid travelers and visited all over the world.
Survivors include her daughter Frances Sapp Vinyard of Abingdon and her husband Robert Austin Vinyard, one grandson, Christopher Evans Vinyard and his wife Julie Schell Vinyard, of Richmond Virginia, two sisters, Kathryn Vinyard Simpson of Houston, Delaware and Ellen Vinyard Jump of Hampton, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Service of Holy Burial will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Abingdon, Virginia at 11am on Thursday, June 22, 2006, with the Rev. Ellie Scofield officiating. Internment will be in the St. Thomas Columbarium.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Houston Methodist Church, 235 Broad Street, Houston, Delaware 19954 or St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 124 East Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia 24210.

Tony Lester Looney
Tony Lester Looney passed away at her home on Sunday, June 25, 2006 after an extended illness. Mrs. Looney was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Lester; her parents, Pat and Nervie Rose of Clincho, VA; six sisters, one brother and one granddaughter, Cherie Lester Nickles. She was a member of the Grundy First Baptist Church and last attended First Christian Church of Abingdon.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Looney; on son, Bill Lester and wife Jo Ann of Bristol, VA; one granddaughter, Tina Viers and husband Chris and great grand children, Alexander and Jordan Viers all of Bristol, VA.
The family wishes to give special thanks to her loving caregivers Faye Ross, Darlene Goodson, Dr. Todd Narin and staff, Macs Medical Service, Dr. Anand, the nurses on the fifth floor of Johnston Memorial Hospital, longtime friend Nancy Baldwin, Aid & Assist Home Services and Hospice of Southwest Virginia.

A. C. "Bud" Hutton, Jr.
Mr. A. C. “Bud” Hutton, Jr. died Monday, June 26, 2006 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Bud had retired after forty two years of service with Applachian Power company. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of WW II having served in the 16th Armored Division. During this time, he had seen action in France, Germany, Belgium and Czechoslovakia.
Survivors include his wife Lola Abel Hutton; two sons, Jeff Hutton of Meadowview, VA and David Hutton and wife Becky of Knoxville, TN; his brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Shirley Hutton of Silver Spring, MD; his grandchildren, Krista Stevenson and husband Jason of Knoxville, TN, Misty Hughes and husband Gene of Johnson City, TN and Elizabeth Hutton of Knoxville, TN; his great granddaughter Addie Stevenson of Knoxville.
The funeral service for A. C. “Bud” Hutton, Jr. will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Thursday, June29, 2006 in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service (located on the grounds of Forest Hills Memory Gardens) with Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. Interment
will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hutton, David Hutton, Gene Hughtes, Jason Stevenson, Mike Abel and Benny Weaver.

Ester Frances Kirk Pate
Esther Frances Kirk Pate, 93, of Abingdon died June 27, 2006 following a stroke.
She moved to Abingdon from Wise County at the time of her marriage in 1934. Esther was born March 7, 1913 in Wise County Virginia. Her parents, Joseph Ward Kirk and Belle Stallard Kirk, her husband, Robert Hewitt Pate, five sisters, Lettie Kirk, Stella Kirk, Cora Kirk Schell, Lorena Kirk Owens and Lena Kirk Kirsh, and four brothers, Lamar Kirk, Robley Kirk, Edward Kirk, and Howard Kirk preceded Esther in death.
Esther is survived by her son, Robert H. Pate, Jr, and his wife Ellen Pope Pate of Charlottesville, VA; a grandson, R. Hewitt Pate, III and his wife Lindsey Haines Pate of Richmond, VA; a granddaughter, Mary Ellen Pate Barton and her husband Scott Christopher Barton of Richmond, VA and four great granddaughters, Katherine O’Neal Barton, Hannah Scott Barton, Elizabeth Ann Pate and Ellen Kirk Pate. A devoted niece, Joan Owens Kennedy of Castlewood, VA, also survives Esther.
Those who loved Esther express special appreciation for the love of her devoted caregiver, Linda Vannoy and to her husband Terry Vannoy for his many kindnesses.
A memorial service of worship and celebration of Esther’ life will be at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church at 11 AM, Friday, June 30, followed by a reception in the Church Parlor. A private interment
will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens preceding the memorial service.
Esther was the bookkeeper for her husband’s Sinclair petroleum marketing business, and she was a devoted member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church. The Church and her family celebrated her 90th birthday with a special tribute to her leadership and contributions to the life of the Church. Esther was the first female elected to serve as Ruling Elder in Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church.

Walter J. Minnick
Mr. Walter J. Minnick, age 89, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at the Grace Healthcare Center. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia and was the son of the late Harrison and Virginia Hagy Minnick. He was a member of the Washington Chapel United Methodist Church. Walter had retired from both the U. S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and farmer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Minnick and three brothers, Garland Minnick, Jake Minnick and Clarence Minnick.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday June 30, 2006, at 1:30 PM in the Knollkreg Memorial Park with Pastor Larry Lusk officiating. There will be a visitation Friday from 12:30 to 1:20 PM at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be friends of Washington Chapel United Methodist Church.

Wiley Junior Bott
Mr. Wiley Junior Bott, 84, past away Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia, he was a farmer and was a member of Walnut Springs Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Sally Ingle Bott; three brothers: Floyd Bott, Orville Bott and Alfred Bott; and one sister, Minnie Sperry.
Mr. Bott is survived by his wife, Louella Flinchum Bott; one son, William Bott and his wife, Jackie of Abingdon; one granddaughter, Lisa Bott Weddle and her husband Shannon of Abingdon; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Caleb Weddle of Abingdon; and six sisters: Ada Goodson of Ft. Wayne, IN; Gladys Burge of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Hazel Mae Wright of Abingdon; Trula Harless of Bristol, TN; Geneva Miller of Bristol, VA; and Wanda Lucille Blair of Bristol, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Wiley Junior Bott will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2006, at the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon with the Rev. Howard Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hearl, Samuel Sells, Erby Bott, Roger Fields, Kenneth Sells, and Ronnie South.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at the Main Street location of Farris Funeral Service. The family will also be at the home of Mr. Bott’s son William at 18043 Wyndale Road, Abingdon.
Herbert Widener
Mr. Herbert A. Widener, age 77, went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of the Denton’s Valley community and was the son of the late Elmer and Dells Forrester Widener. Herbert was a devoted Christian and had touched the lives of his family and many in the community around him in life and death. He was a longtime member of the Denton’s Valley Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and former choir director and Sunday School teacher.
He thought of his wife as his “Big Angel” and was totally devoted to her. He will be sadly missed by all his family and his friends in the community. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Charles; four sisters, Lura, Beatrice, Opal and Roena. Survivors include

Adam Nathan Fulton
Adam Nathan Fulton, age 23, departed this life into eternal peace on Wednesday, June 28, 2006.
Adam was a loving and caring young man who enjoyed the outdoors lifestyle very much and especially enjoyed fishing. He loved all of his family and was loved by them also. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Hubert Fulton.
Adam is a husband to Pamela Hazel Fulton; a father of Dakota (Coddy) Kane Fulton; a son of Dewey and Sarah Harris Fulton; a brother of Dewey Fulton, Jr. and his fiancé Tara Ritchie of Emory, VA; George Fulton and wife Maryann of Maryville, TN and Jarrad Fulton and wife Sommer of Bristol, VA; a grandson of Paul and Annie Mae Harris of Wytheville, VA and Vickie Fulton of Chilhowie, VA and a son-in-law of Charlie and Gloria Bussey of Bristol, VA. Adam is also survived by many wonderful aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service for Adam Nathan Fulton will be conducted Sunday, July 2, 2006 at 6:00 PM at the Forest Hills branch of Farris Funeral Service with the Reverend Steve Tilley officiating. Bobby R. Owens
Mr. Bobby R. Owens, age 63, passed away June 17, 2004 in New Port Richey, Florida.
He was born and raised in Abingdon, VA.
Bobby is survived by two daughters, Teresa Blanchard and Kerry Curtis both of New Port Richey, Florida, three grandchildren, three aunts, Dixie Widner, Winston, NC, Dorothy King, Abingdon, VA, Helen Owens, Lebanon, VA, an uncle, A. M. Owens, Bristol, several cousins.
A memorial graveside service will be conducted Monday, August 28, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon, VA with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating.
