Josie Ethelyn Fleenor
Mrs. J. Ethelyn M. Fleenor, age 76 passed away Friday, September 22, 2006 in Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Fleenor was born January 1, 1930 in Washington County, Virginia to the late Harry Britton McCracken and Pearl Haga McCracken. Mrs. Fleenor was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mrs. Fleenor is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Raymond McCracken, two sisters, Mary Magdalene Cullop and Lora Mae Groseclose, and one grandchild, Traci LeDia Martin.
Mrs. Fleenor is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Paul E. Fleenor, three sons, Bruce Martin and wife Vicki of Piney Flats, Tennessee, and Paul Fleenor, Jr. and wife Vicki of Bristol, Virginia, one daughter, Dottie Nash and husband Garland of Bristol, Virginia. Grandchildren, Brittany Barnett and husband, Jonathan of Knoxville, Tennessee, David Ringley, Jr. of Bristol, Virginia, Katherine Alsbrook and husband, Eric of Bristol, Tennessee. Heather Waraksa and husband, David of Brooklyn, New York, Shelley Typrin and husband, Jason of Los Angeles, California, Justin Fleenor of Bristol, Virginia and Rachel Fleenor of Bristol, Virginia, and Shawn Fleenor of Newport News, Virginia. Three great-grandchildren, Ella Typrin of Los Angeles, Califonia, and Shawn Fleenor, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia, and Kayla Fleenor of Newport News, Virginia. One brother, Ernie McCracken and wife Nell of Welch, West Virginia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Fleenor will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2006 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Jim Goddard officiating. Interment
will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Paul Fleenor, Jr., Garland Nash, Jonathan Barnett, Dan Edwards, Charles Robinson, and Doug Harman. The family will receive friends after 6:00 P.M. Sunday, September 24, 2006 in the funeral home.
Charles Lee Barr, Sr.
Charles Lee “Skip” Barr, Sr. departed this life on Friday, September 22, 2006 at his residence. He was a native of Alex, VA and had lived in the Bristol, VA area for 15 years. In addition to his mother, Virginia Lee Patton, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Williams.
He is survived and will be remembered by his wife of 26 years, Brenda Ann Barr; two daughters; Brandi Stanley and husband, Kerry and Melissa Tuell and husband, Michael, two sons; Charles Lee Barr, Jr. and Sgt. Timothy Barr and wife, Glenda, stationed in Germany; one sister, Kathleen “Kitty” Petitt and his mother-in-law, Linda Allen; nine grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2006 in the Campground United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Benhams Community, Bristol, VA with Rev. Howard Leonard officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday following the graveside service at the residence.
Frances Elizabeth Wohlford
On Sunday September 24, 2006, Frances Elizabeth Brown Wohlford passed peacefully from this world. A lover of life, family, and laughter; her journey now continues in the Heavens. Known to many as “Frisky”, Frances was born July 19, 1923 in Meadowview, VA. She was the daughter of the late Hayter and Gladys Ritchie Brown. She attended Meadowview High School, Marion College, and Emory and Henry College. Ms. Wohlford was employed 21 years with the Washington County School System as a library aide.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, David Randolph Wohlford, daughter Becky Wohlford and sister Mary Baker.
Ms. Wohlford is survived by one daughter, Eva Louise Parker and husband Ken, and one son, David R. Wohlford, Jr., and wife Pat; grandchildren Eddie Wohlford, Ritchie Wohlford and wife Lisa, Nicole Spurgeon and husband Scott, Randi Johnson and husband Mike, and Martha Foster and husband Joseph; great-granddaughters Alexandra Wohlford, Sara Spurgeon, Rowan Wohlford and Isabel Johnson; brothers David Daniel Brown and Hayter C. Brown; brother-in-law, Jimmy Wohlford and Sam Wohlford and wife Mary, sister-in-law Betty Dishman and husband Clarence; special cousins Joe Painter and David Painter; and special friends Dr. and Mrs. Emory Robinette and Judy Combs, also several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in the Holston Conference Cemetery, Emory, Virginia with Rev. Clarence Dishman officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ritchie Wolford, Mike Johnson, Joseph Foster, Joe Painter, Milton Maiden, G. C. Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Wohlford, Scott Spurgeon, David Painter, Charlie Brown, Bud Brown.

Thelma "Nancy" Henderson Duff
Thelma “Nancy” Henderson Duff, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 25, 2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family following complications from a stroke. Nancy was born on August 31, 1928, in Washington County, Virginia, to the late Grover and Cora Davis Henderson. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and attended Solid Rock Baptist Church, where her son-in-law pastors. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and sister-in-law. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Cora Henderson; brothers, K.B., Woodrow, Claude, Clarence and Thomas Henderson; and sister, Chloe and brother-in-law, Arlie (Curley) Holmes. Alva Monroe Stiltner
Mr. Alva Monroe Stiltner, age 87, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2006 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Stiltner was born July 13, 1919 in Buchanan County, Virginia. He was retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad with 42 years of service. Mr. Stiltner moved to Abingdon from Grundy in 1981. Mr. Stiltner was a member of Woodland Hills Church of Christ.
Mr. Stiltner is preceded in death by his first wife, Belle Horn Stiltner, five brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Stiltner is survived by his second wife, Clemmie H. Sturgill Stiltner, two sons, Roger Lee Stiltner of Johnson City, Tennessee and Ray Stiltner of Daytona Beach, Florida, two step-sons; Bill Sturgill, and Bob Sturgill; two step-daughters, Elaine S. Crewey and Cathy S. Richards.

Jean Powers Haack
Mrs. Jean Powers Haack, age 79, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006.
Jean was born in Dickenson County, Virginia on May 9, 1927 and was a daughter of the late Monroe Powers and Ollie Robinson Powers. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dewel W. Powers. Jean had lived her adult life in Allen Park Michigan where she was an active member of the Mount Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband Wilbur Haack; three children, Cheryl Toms and husband Kim of Belleville, MI, Gail Lafave of Dearborn Heights, MI and Mellani Zajac and husband Mike of Spring Lake, MI; eleven brothers and sisters, Bobbie W. Powers and wife Tong of Fairbanks, AK, Myrl E. Powers Viers Clevinger of Abingdon, VA, Joy L. Cochran and husband Bill of Live Oaks, FL, George R. Powers and wife Judy of Charleston, WV, Von P. Powers and wife Betty of Tallahassee, FL, Sam Powers of Bee, VA, Ann Ray and husband Guy of Davenport, VA, Deana Powers McClanahan of Abingdon, VA, Richard L. Powers of Warwick, RI, Pat Powers Bronner of Abingdon, VA and Haley T. Emma Laura Johnson Overcash
Emma Laura Johnson Overcash, age 87, died September 13, 2006.
Emma was deeply loved and was devoted to her family and friends. She graduated from East High School in Nashville, TN in 1936 and from Emory and Henry College in 1940.
Survivors include her daughters Linda Fort Overcash Stigall and her husband Gerald of Minneapolis, MN, Emma Jan Overcash Bell and her husband John of Birmingham, AL; her son, Kim Johnson Overcash and his wife Kathleen of Englewood, CO; her sisters, Mary Ann Johnson Metzger and her husband Harold of Scottsdale, AZ, Ruth Jeanette Johnson Fox of West Palm Beach, FL, Lorena Yates Johnson Bass and her husband George of Nashville, TN; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on September 16, 2006 at St. James United Methodist Church in Atlanta. An interment
and memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the Holston Conference Cemetery at Emory & Henry College. She will be laid to rest next to her mother, Emma Jeanette Fort Johnson, wife of the Rev. O. B. Johnson.
