ESTELLE ROBERSON UNDERWOOD
BASSETT - Estelle Roberson Underwood, 78, died Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born on October 22, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, a daughter of the late Homer A. Roberson and the late Lena C. Roberson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gilbert C. Underwood, who died on July 28, 2002 and sister, Freeda R. DeHart.
She was a member of the Bassett Church of the Brethren since 1951, where she formerly served as church secretary, member and past president of the Women's Bible Class and member of the Women's Fellowship Circles. Surviving are: a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene U. and Harvey Roop of Patrick Springs; two sons and daughter-in-law, Gerald C. Underwood and special friend, Marie Coleman of Ridgeway; Doyle L. Underwood and Mary Grace Underwood, both of Woolwine; one sister,Velma R. Reed of Floyd; two brothers, Harry and Donald Roberson, both of Floyd; four grandchildren, Andrea Roop, Adam Roop, Brenton Underwood and Cody Underwood and one step-grandson, Joey Belcher.
The funeral was held Wednesday, February 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Bassett Church of the Brethren with the Reverend William Stovall and the Reverend Barry Sink. Interment
was in Roselawn Burial Park.

BELLE SUTPHIN WILLIS
FLOYD - Belle Sutphin Willis, 87, widow of W. Glenn Willis passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2003 after a lengthy illness. She was married to Mr. Willis for 64 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Rosa Largen Sutphin.
She was a member of Camp Bethel United Methodist Church, Pilot.

Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lawrence Nuckolls and Reverend Tommy Willis officiating. Burial followed in Jacksonville.
EVELYN "LYN" H. HETHERINGTON
RICHMOND - Evelyn "Lyn" H. Hetherington departed this life Saturday, April 19, 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Jack C. Hetherington; daughter, Susan H. Wood and her husband, Gary; a son, Ray C. Hetherington and his wife Angie; grandchildren, Jennifer and Amanda Wood, and Morgan Hetherington; sisters-in-law, Betty Williams of Roanoke and Eleanor Munsey of Meadowbridge; several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Virginia Tech. She was also a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Funeral service was held at Bennett Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service was held Wednesday, April 23 at 1 p.m. at Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd.
Harry Price Surratt, Sr.
ROANOKE - Harry Price Sr. born April 19, 1916, went to Heaven, Tuesday, April 8, 2003. He was a son of the late Oscar and Bessie Surratt and preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Surratt and a sister, Clarice S. White.
He is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Gladys; daughter, Betty S. Coulthard of Marion; son, Harry Jr. and wife, Janet N. of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Patton, Harrison Reed Surratt, Elizabeth Scott Surratt and Sarah Layman Surratt; one great-grandchild, Hannah Elizabeth Patton. Also surviving are two sisters, Linda Harris of Stuart and Mary White of Roanoke Rapids, NC: sisters-in-law, Margie Moles of Floyd and Treva Poff of Vinton as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2003 at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment
was in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Salem.

WILLIS - Waller Edgar Thomas, 87, passed away Friday, April 18, 2003 at New River Valley Medical Center. He was the former owner of Hull and Thomas Tractor Company, Stuart, VA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis Sutphin Thomas, his parents, Homer and Eller Harris Thomas, a brother, Elmer W. "Chuck" Thomas and a sister, Ora Thomas Harman.
Survivors include: brother and sisters-in-law, Ted and Cecile Sutphin, Rosette Sutphin, Ocie Sutphin, Goldie Montgomery; numerous nieces and nephews. FLOYD - William Kyle Vaughn, Sr., 64, passed away, April 16, 2003 at Community Hospital. He was a Deacon of Mt. Zion Christian Church. He retired after 35 years of service to his country by serving in the U. S. Army, Veterans Administration, and U. S. Parks Service.
He is survived by: wife of 40 years: Gladys K. Vaughn of Floyd; four children and spouses: William K. Jr. and Bertha Pena-Vaughn of Christiansburg; Cecilia and Deshawn O'Connor of Suffolk; Florence and Damon Williams of Roanoke, Erik and Joy Vaughn of Laurel, MD; two brothers : Edgar Vaughn Jr. of Floyd; Jimmy Vaughn of Floyd; sister: Annie Lee Wimbush of Stuart; five grandchildren, William K. Vaughn III; Jasmine O'Connor, Fernando Vaughn, Gabriella Vaughn, Darius O'Connor; aunt, Catherine Sue Vaughn of Floyd; several cousins, nieces and nephews. WILLIAM (BILL) JACKSON DICKERSON
WINCHESTER - William Jackson Dickerson (Bill), 72, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 in Winchester Medical Center.
He was born August 24, 1930 in Montgomery County, the son and only child of the late Pose J. Dickerson and Louann Thomas Dickerson Licklider. He worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, where he earned many awards.
He was a 1949 graduate of Warren County High School and an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War.
He served as head trustee and custodian for Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church and worked as an audio technician.
He married Coraella Pierce on July 22, 1955 in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife are: three daughters, twins, Brenda Kay Virts of Stephens City, and Linda Gay Fox of Winchester, and Pamela Jean Wallace of Yorktown; five grandchildren. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. on March 28, 2003 at Jones Funeral Home, Winchester, with the Reverend Darrel Taylor officiating. Burial was in Shenandoah Memorial Park. FLOYD - Alben William Barkley "Bill" Truitt, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, and their children, Krista, Michael, Erin, Gabriel and Ada Leanda, and children, Kevin, Barkley and Kim, and his brothers, Thomas H. Truitt, Max O. Truitt and Steven Truitt.

WILLIS - Cavel Lee Bishop, 88, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2003 at New River Valley Medical Center. He was born August 20, 1914. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Charles and Ida Dulaney Bishop; two brothers, Ray and Junior Bishop; two sons-in-law, Roger Woolwine and Eldon Duncan.

JACK WITTEN JONES
TAZEWELL - Jack Witten Jones, 68, died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at a Tazewell hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Tazewell, Virginia and was the son of the late G. Cleve and Nellie Sword Jones.
He was the former owner of Jones Chainsaw and Supply Company of Tazewell. He had resided in the Floyd County and Tazewell County areas of Virginia most of his life.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, and one sister. Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Debbie) Cline of Tazewell; one son, Mr. Stephen M. Jones of Roanoke; one brother, Jim Jones of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Allison Cline, Nick Cline and Steve Jones.
A memorial service was conducted Sunday, August 10, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral home in Tazewell with the Reverend John L. Gunter officiating. Interment
will be private at a later date.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Cicero and Ova McKinley, five brothers and six sisters, and her husband, Joseph Harvery Martin.
Surviving are: one sister, Wilma Young of Pensacola, Florida; one son, Robert Harvery Martin of Camarillo, California; one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy M. and Michael Zevgolis of Hopewell, seven grandchildren, Robert Zevgolis, Karen Grant, Kim Shropshire, Tina Zevgolis, Robert K.
