FLOYD - David Jacob Bower, 72, passed away September 19, 2002 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a life-time member of Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed gardening, tree grafting and bee keeping. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Jewel Bower.
He is survived by: four sons and daughters-in-law, James David (J.D.) and Melba Bower, Floyd, Luther Wayne and Phyllis Bower, Floyd, Lemuel (Clem) Pratt Bower, Utah, Daniel Jacob Bower, Floyd; four grandsons and wives, James David Jr. (Jay) and Penny Bower, Willis, Timothy Gordon and Melodie Bower, Floyd, Joseph Wayne (Joe) and Jessica Bower, Floyd, Mason David Bower, Utah; two granddaughters, Christy Marie Bower, Blacksburg, Madeline Bower, Utah; three-great-grandchildren, Haleigh Danielle Bower, Mariya Jene Bower, Noah Joseph Bower; two sisters and brother-in-law, Rosie and Freeman Pratt, Salem, Beatrice Howery, Annadale; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, at Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with the Reverend Jimmy Cannaday and the Reverend Hebron Quesenberry officiating. Interment

CHECK - Everette Henry Cunningham, 35, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2002. He was preceded in death by his father, Hampton H. Cunningham.

COPPER HILL - David W. East, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2002.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Sonia; parents, William and Lelia East, Patrick Springs; daughters and sons-in-law, Allison and Geoff Simpson, Christy and Paul Macauley, Palmyra; son and daughter-in-law, Dave and May East, Stephen City; six grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Lucas King and infant son.

FLOYD - Clinton Elmer Vest, 77, passed away September 21, 2002 at his home. He was born on March 19, 1925. He was a member of Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, V.F.W. Post #7854, and was Past Master of Floyd Masonic Lodge #329 A.F. and A.M. He was preceded in death by: his parents, W.B. and Susie Vest; son, Terry Steven Vest; two brothers, Otha Dean Vest and Junior Vest.
He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Catherine Vest; daughter, Shelba Willett; two granddaughters and husbands, Denise and Scott Harrison, Teresa and Robert Cummins; five great-grandchildren, Sierra Harrison, Makayla Harrison, Josh Vest, Caitlyn Cummins, Nicholas Cummins; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Raymond King; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilford and Erma Jean Vest, Alvin and Mae Vest, Warren and Blondine Vest; two sisters-in-law, Olean Vest, Dolly Vest; several nieces and nephews.

MINNESOTA - Beulah Poff Hyatt, 85, formerly of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2002 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Survivors include a sister, Lillian A. Ries of St. Paul, MN; several nieces and nephews.

BASSETT - Charles David Boyd, 64, recently passed away. He was a United States Marine Corps. Veteran and a retired truck driver from E.F. Nichols Trucking Company. He was the son of the late Charlie Green and Beulah Ruth Boyd.
He is survived by: a niece, Wanda R. Rakes, Bassett; nephew, Johnny Radford, Bassett; great nieces, Virginia Mae Moore, Lisa Ann Ingram, Bassett, Genevive Radford, April Radford, Ridgeway.

MAUDE W. DICKERSON
FLOYD - Maude W. Dickerson, 94, a long time resident of Floyd, passed away Friday, June 20, 2003 in Columbia, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband Elba H. Dickerson.
Through her Christian faith and her love for people, she was a joy and inspiration to those who knew her. She was the oldest living member of Floyd Baptist church, and a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the American Association of Retired Persons, and Beaver Creek Homemakers, and many other community organizations.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Harman and Marion Dickerson of Columbia, Missouri; two grandchildren, Derek Dickerson of Burbank, California, and Donya Dickerson of Brooklyn, New York; two step-grandsons, two step-great-grandsons; one sister, Edith Webb of Floyd; sister-in-law, Rhoda Lancaster of Martinsville; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Floyd Baptist Church with Reverend Curtis Nester officiating. Interment
followed in Jacksonville Cemetery.
HARRIET FELDMAN
FLOYD - Harriet Feldman, 88, passed peaceful from this life at 8:31 a.m. June 27, 2003 at New River Valley Medical Center, Christiansburg. She was a resident of Skyline Manor Nursing home in Floyd where she had many friends among the staff. Nora Harriet Berenbaum was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 4, 1915, lived for many years on Long Island and 10 years in Blacksburg. She also spent time in the Catskill Mountains of New York.
She worked as a bookkeeper and delighted in gardening, cooking, sewing and reading. Harriet was known by all who knew her for her honest and caring nature. Her life touched many people. She will be greatly missed and always remembered by her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. As we remember her touch and her face we are blessed.
Harriet was preceded in death by her father Max Berenbaum, her mother, Jeanette Brody, her husband, Nathan Feldman, and her brother Edward Berenbaum.
She is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Marion Dickerson of Willis, Linda and Tom Kasmir of Loch Sheldrake, New York; one son, Marc Feldman of California; four grandchildren, Bronwen Cox, Jeremy Cox, Shawn Cox, and Matthew Kasmir; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Harold and Florence Brody and Pearl Berenbaum; two sisters, Pearl Cogliandro and Betty Cilento; many loving nieces and nephews and special friends including William and Molly Cox, Ashley Collins, Loretta Lester, and Charles Croft.
A graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Temple Emmanuel Cemetery in Roanoke. Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd, handled arrangements.
V. ARWIN GOAD
STUART - V. Arwin Goad, 70, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 29, 2003 at the Training Center of Central Virginia in Lynchburg.
He was born in Floyd County on May 10, 1933 to the late Earlie and Kayoulah Marshall Goad. He had spent 12 years at the Patrick County Developmental Center and 14 years at the Training Center of Central Virginia.
He is survived by: four sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Lawless, Mrs. Shelby Lawless, both of Stuart, Mrs. Anna Mae Reed of Floyd, and Mrs. Carolyn Hogan of Roanoke; four brothers, Brainard Goad of Henry, Clyde "Barefoot" Goad of Collinsville, Bobby Goad of Roanoke, and Ervin Goad of Stuart; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Reverend Cecil Simmons and Reverend David Riffe officiating. Burial followed in Henry Memorial Park. CHILDRESS - Beatrice Duncan Quesenberry, 71, passed away, June 27, 2003 at New River Valley Medical Center from complications of heart surgery.
She is survived by: her husband, Estle Ray Quesenberry of Radford; daughter and son-in-law, Barbie and Billy Sanders of White Rock; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Joan Quesenberry, Indian Valley; six grandchildren, Susan, Amy, Kim, Scotty, Randy, Todd; eight great-grandchildren: Shea, Haley, Mitchell, Laken, Kayla, Megan, Shane, Jessica; five sisters, Evelyn, Arlene, Norma, Pearl, Edith.

FLOYD - James Elbert Weeks, 67, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in the arms of his loving family. He was born on November 11, 1935 to the late Julian and Minnie Weeks. He was also preceded in death by his grandson Austin Hunter Johnston.
He worked at Floyd Tire Shop for 37 years, and was co-owner of Floyd Tire Center for 14 years.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 48 years, Ruth Weeks, Floyd; loving daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jeff Reed, Floyd, Mitzi and Rusty Johnston, Hillsville, Monica and Greg Goad, Floyd; grandchildren, Jennifer Bishop and husband Daniel, Matthew Reed, Skyler Goad, all of Floyd; step-grandson Joshua Stone, Laurel Fork; great grandson Jesse Bishop, Floyd; sisters and brother-in-law, Alberta Weeks, Pauline Repass, Peggy and Bobby Howell, all of Floyd; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Janet Weeks, Beckley, West Virginia, Billy and Annette Weeks, Willis, Johnny and Sue Weeks, Floyd; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

FLOYD - Alma Harris Baker, 88, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at Radford Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Willis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Early E. Baker; parents, Eld. Jethro and Ella Moore Harris; one sister and four brothers.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Connie and John Boothe, North August, South Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon and Lou Baker, Floyd, Bill Baker, C.B. and Yvonne Baker, Christiansburg, Phillip and Patty Baker, Dublin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Leta and James High, Floyd, Pauline and Kenneth Hodges, Willis; brother and sister-in-law, Elder Oscar and Linda Bell Harris, Stuart; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

EUNICE MITCHELL COX
INDIAN VALLEY - Eunice Mitchell Cox, 65, departed this life on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Bernice Mitchell of Indian Valley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Darren L. Cox and her brother, J. Delmas Mitchell. She was the wife of Coleman L. Cox of Indian Valley.
In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory her son, Dennis Cox; her two daughters, Jennifer Cox and Kristie Horton; three sisters, Ramona Hollandsworth, Phyllis Marshall, Glenda Meador; sister-in-law, Glenna Mitchell; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, with a memorial service to follow.

SALEM - Edward Ray Huff, 48, passed away Monday, September 2, 2002. He was employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation in the Materials Division, Salem, with 28 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Huff; son and daughter-in-law, Lynnwood and Patty Turner; parents, Paul Edward and Joy Ann Sowers Huff; two brothers and sister-in-law, Wendell Huff, Jerry Lane and Debbie Huff; one niece, Tracie Huff; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
