FAURE EWERT HOLLINS
NORTH CAROLINA - Faure Ewert Hollins, 82, went home to be with his Savior Wednesday, July 2, 2003 after a brief illness. Funeral service was held on Sunday, July 6, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Lawndale Baptist Church. Interment
followed in Lakeview Memorial Park.
Mr. Hollins was a graduate of Mars Hill College. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1950. He worked for Burlington Industries as a planning manager for 35 years. After retirement, he worked for Greensboro Day School for 15 years. He loved the children that rode his bus and loved all of those he had the joy and privilege of working with at the school. Mr. Hollins loved the church and all those he served with, both the ministers and the church families at the old Asheboro Street Baptist Church and the Lawndale Baptist Church, where he was a member at his passing. The family gratefully thanks Dr. Shen and his associates and the medical staff of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Hospice of Greensboro for their kind and compassionate care.
He is survived by: his wife, Virginia B. Hollins; daughters, Virginia Anne Phillips and husband, Reverend N. Ray Phillips, Kathy Gregersen and husband, Dr. Jerry Gregersen; granddaughers, Whiteny Morgan Phillips and Ashley Chandler Phillips; brothers, Astor Hollins and wife, Evelyn of Goodview, Orel Hollins and wife, Ruby, of Hillsborough, North Carolina; sisters, Malicia Shaver and husband, Clifford of Copper Hill, Elta Wilson and husband, Wayne, also of Copper Hill; and many nieces and nephews. WILLIS - Thelma Matherly Quesenberry, 92, passed away Monday, July 7, 2003 at Trinity Mission of Hillsville. She is preceded in death by her husband Rollie Quesenberry and a son, Russell Quesenberry.
She is survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Elrica and Carl Marshall of Willis; three sisters and brother-in-law, Bernice Matherly of Christiansburg, Opal Jones of Christiansburg, Ruby and Sammy Phillips of Willis; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Margaret Matherly of Willis; daughter-in-law, Opal Quesenberry of Willis; grandchildren and spouses, Rhonda and Jerell Myers of Willis, Dreama and Tim Tolbert of Willis, Dr. Katrena and Nathan Floyd of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Andrea Tolbert of Blacksburg, Aimee Tolbert of Willis and Ashley Myers of Willis.

Rockville - Phillip Eugene "Pete" Hallman, 77, died Thursday, November 28, 2002.
He died at his home in Rockville, near Richmond, where he had recently moved. He was editor and publisher of The Floyd Press from 1948 to 1966. He retired as a newspaper executive in Beavercreek, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Alice Driscoll Hallman, of Rockville; daughter Kathleen Joan Adams and her husband Jeremy Adams. of Gloucester, Mass.; daughter Sherry Reed and her husband Rodney, of Floyd; son Randy Hallman and his wife, Ann McMillan, of Rockville; granddaughter Hunter Hallman of Rockville; grandson Robyn Rhodes of San Francisco; and brother Robert Hallman of Conover, N.C.
Two memorial services are scheduled -- one in at the Floyd United Methodist Church in Floyd on Saturday Dec. 7 at 10:30 a.m., and one at the St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Beavercreek, Ohio, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9.

COPPER HILL - Eunice Hall Muncy, 89, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2002 in a Roanoke nursing home. She was born in Floyd County, July 15, 1913. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Shirley Muncy; son, Kenneth Muncy; sisters, Edna Honaker and Pearl Roop, brothers, Leonard Hall, Jr. and Raymond Hall.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Edna "Tootsie" and John Poff, Copper Hill; three grandchildren, Anthony and Allison Muncy, Floyd, Patsy and Donald Snavely, Copper Hill and Robin Anderson; a great-grandson, Eddie Snavely, Copper Hill; daughter-in-law, Nora Muncy, Blacksburg; two brothers, Lloyd Hall and Brainard Hall, both of Christiansburg; three sisters, Wanna Thomas, Christiansburg, Nan Basham, Salem, Eva Hall, Blacksburg.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2002 at Wood Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Homer Sawyer and Reverend Donnie Marshall officiating. Interment
followed in the Huffville Cemetery.

KENNETH WAYNE AUSTIN
FLOYD - Kenneth Wayne Austin, 41, passed away, July 20, 2003 at UVA Medical center.
A simple man that was an avid hunter, fisherman, and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed being with his family and friends most. He was employed by Southern Air and Varney as a heating and air conditioning technician.
He is survived by: father and mother, Harry and JoAnna Austin of Floyd; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Terri Austin of Salem, Larry and Loraine Austin of Roanoke; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Connie White of Roanoke, Cathy and Keith Noell of Salem, Nelthia and Phil Barton of Floyd; fourteen nieces and nephews, Travis White, Michelle Greer, Josh Noell, Ashley Austin, Crystal Austin, Evan Noell, Cassie Barton, Brandon Austin, Eric Austin, Ann Marie Noell, Jane Barton, Amanda Barton, Cierra White and Angel Greer.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Floyd Baptist Church with Reverend Dan Agee officiating. Interment
followed in Vest Cemetery in Floyd. Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.
CECIL REUBEN COCKRAN
VINTON - Cecil Reuben Cockran, 64, after a very tough year-long battle with cancer, went to met his Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2003.
He was dearly loved my many, and had a great Christian impact on those he met. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
A graduate of Floyd High School and Virginia Tech, he was employed by Norfolk Southern Railway for 39 years, 35 of which were spent in the Computer Center, before retiring in 2001.
He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Roanoke, and one of his greatest pleasures was helping out around the church, doing whatever needed to be done, and working alongside his special friends, Buster Stacey and Jahue Mundy.
He was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Claudie Cockram. He will be greatly missed by: his loving wife of 39 years, Ruby Johnson Cockran, his sons, Mark Cockran, Lynchburg and Kevin Cockran, Salem; brother, Eugene Cockran of Burbank, California.
Funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at First Church of the Nazarene, Roanoke. Officiating ministers were Reverend Earl Robertson, Reverend Richard Donahue and Reverend Murray Agee. Interment
followed in Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel.
ELWOOD JEWELL PETERS
FLORIDA - Elwood Jewell Peters, 78, passed away peacefully at home on July 17.
He was born in Floyd County, a WWII Veteran who moved to Orlando in 1971 after he retired from 28 years of dedicated service in the United States Army.
He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Romona; four children, Elwood, Alethea, Esther and Amber; three stepchildren, Jack, Buddy and Linda; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild; five sisters, Doris Criner of St. Albans, West Virginia, Patricia Burdette and Julia Kelley of Charleston, West Virginia, Corine Cole of Ben Salem, Pennsylvania and Lois Thornton of Titusville, Florida.
A memorial service was held Monday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at Fairchild Chapel, Lake Ivanhoe.
T. ARNO BOWERS
Mr. Bowers passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at Heritage Hall Health Care Center.
He was born in Floyd County, Va on March 27, 1917 to the late C. H. C. and Kitty Epperly Bowers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Harman Bowers as well as four brothers, Newell Bowers, Carl Bowers, Doris Bowers, and Glenn Bowers; two sisters, Ethelene Richards, and Evelyn Lester.
He and his wife were partners in owning and operating the College Inn Restaurant in Downtown Blacksburg from 1946 to 1990.
He was a veteran of WWII serving in the 3rd Army at the Battle of the Bulge, a member of VFW Post 7854 in Floyd County, as well as a member of the Topeco Church of the Brethren in Floyd.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda B. and Jerry F. Deviney of Virginia Beach; a son, Richard Arno Bowers of Blacksburg; a granddaughter, Erin Lee Deviney of Virginia Beach; two sisters-in-law, Glada Bowers, Verena Bowers, both of Salem; and a loving family of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Topeco church of the Brethren with Pastor Michael Varner officiating.
Interent will follow in the Topeco cemetery.
Friends may call anytime after 12:00 noon Thursday, and the family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg.
CHARLES WESLEY (C.W.) HARMAN
FLOYD - Charles Wesley (C.W.) Harman, 79, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003.
He was an army veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific with the First Calvary Division and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a charter member of the Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854.
He was a director of The Bank of Floyd, past director of Citizens Telephone Cooperative, Inc. and was formerly an agent for Rockingham Mutual Insurance Company. He was the founder of C.W. Harman and Son Farm Store in 1960.
Surviving are: his wife, Margaret H. Harman, Floyd; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda Harman, Roanoke, Allen and Anne Harman, Floyd, Donnie and Susan Harman, Mount Airy, North Carolina; grandsons, Brian Harman and wife Desirae, Willis, Matthew Harman, Roanoke, Kyndall Harman, Mount Airy, North Carolina; granddaughter, Danielle Goins, Mount Airy, North Carolina; great-grandson, Chance Wesley Harman, Willis; sister and brother-in-law, Claudine and Edmund Weddle, Floyd; brother-in-law, Archa Vaugh, Jr., Pulaski; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2003 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lawrence Nuckolls and Reverend Mike Varner officiating.
Burial was in Topeco Cemetery with Military Honors by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127.

WILLIS - Jody Ray Moles, 24, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident.
Survivors include: his mother, Christine M. Bennett, Willis; father, Walter Ray Bolt, Willis; sisters, Melissa Bennett, Willis, Cathy Young, Willis; brother, John Derrek Bolt, Willis; maternal grandmother, Elvia Moles, Willis; paternal grandmother, Faye Bolt, Floyd.

WILTON M. RADFORD
COLLINSVILLE - Wilton McRae Radford, 90, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at his home.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1912, in Floyd, a son of the late Peter Bernard Radford and Lula Jane Sweeney Radford. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara R. Taylor; a sister, Marie Radford; and two grandchildren.
He was a retired truck driver and self-employed auto mechanic, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Maidon Radford of the home; one daughter, Shawn R. Quesenberry of Bassett; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Ora R. Huff of Floyd; and one brother, Garfield Radford of Floyd.
The funeral was held Sunday, June 22, 2003 at First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Dr. Rob Edwards officiating. Burial followed in Henry Memorial Park.
ALTON A. SHAVER
ROANOKE - Alton A. Shaver, 68, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin B. and Annie V. Shaver, his sister and brother-in-law, Cammie and David McConnell, brother and sister-in-law, Luther B. and Betty J. Shaver, and brothers-in-law, Lonza Smith and Ralph Spangler. Mr. Shaver was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was born October 17, 1934 in Copper Hill, Floyd County, Va. He served in the U.S. Army and was formerly employed by Roanoke Ready-Mix and Mechanical Development Co. Inc. in Salem.
He is survived by his wife, Betty S. Shaver; sons, Vincent L. Shaver of Hardy, Kirk A. Shaver of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer S. and Barry O. Altice of Rocky Mount; two very special granddaughters, Jaime L. Seaman and Amber N. Altice. He is also survived by sisters, Vera Smith of Roanoke, Elizabeth Wray of Arlington and Essie Spangler of Roanoke; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Malicia Shaver of Copper Hill; brother and sister-in-law, William and Shirley Shaver of Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Jim Worline and Rev. Doug Jones officiating.

ROANOKE - Samuel J. Ramsey, Sr., 81, died Friday, January 17, 2003. He was a native of West Virginia and spent most of his life in Delaware, moving to Roanoke in 1990. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel B. Ramsey.
He is survived by: his wife, Thelma Wimmer Ramsey; a son, Sam Ramsey and his partner, Tony Kiser of Roanoke; two grandsons, Andrew Ramsey and wife, Christine, of Roanoke, Matthew Ramsey and fiancée, Allison Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina; great-grandson, Stephen Bernys, two stepdaughters, Peggy Lantz and husband, Ronnie, of Montvale; Jackie Roberts and husband, Will, of Roanoke; stepson, Douglas Hale of Roanoke; step-grandchildren, Chrisi Rice of Salem, Tracy Gordon of Pulaski; and several step-great-grandchildren.

KNOXVILLE, TN - Ward E. Reed, 78, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003. He was a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club and retired branch manager of Unisys Corporation. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
