CORA JANNEY CONNER
BENT MOUNTAIN - Cora Janney Conner, (Chlorine), 82, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2002 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Conner; son, Lester Conner; her parents, the late Charles and Mary Lou Agee Janney. She was born April 18, 1920 in Floyd County.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Larry Hartman, Boones Mill; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Betty Conner, Bent Mountain; four grandchildren, Anthony and Kim Hartman, Floyd, Edward "Eddie" Conner and David Conner, Vinton; four great-grandchildren, Kayla Hartman, Brandon Hartman, Roger Conner and Amanda Conner; one brother, Charles Janney, Roanoke; also several nieces and nephews; special friends, Annie Martin, Ruby Duncan and other friends.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, at Salem Church (Head of the River,) with Elder Hale Terry officiating. Interment
was in Restvale Cemetery, Copper Hill. Wood Funeral Home, Floyd, handled arrangements.
WARREN RICHARDSON DALTON
ROANOKE - Warren Richardson Dalton, 64, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2002 in a Roanoke hospital.
He was a dedicated and faithful husband, loving brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Mattie Dalton; two brothers, Cecil and Marshall Dalton.
Survivors include: his wife, Pauline Jane Dalton; daughter, Patricia Ann Gallimore; son, Anthony Dalton; grandson, Joshua Gallimore; brother, Raymond Dalton; sisters, Geneva Wells, Carol Bean, Wilma Simmons; aunt, Rena Tolley; five nieces and seven nephews.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Reverend Leon Alley officiating. Burial followed in Laurel Creek Cemetery, Pilot.
CHARLES MONROE PIEPER
ROANOKE - Charles Monroe Pieper, 87, formerly a resident of Floyd County, passed away September 16, 2002 at his home in Roanoke. He was a member of the Masons for 53 years and currently a member of the Floyd Masonic Lodge #329 A.F. & A.M. His youth and employment years were spent in Dayton, Ohio where he worked for Frigidaire for 25 years and then established his own corporation. His primary focus has always been his family.
He is survived by: a devoted wife of 63 years, Gwendolyn (Sue) Pieper; three children, Christy Wente', Jim Pieper, Joyce Stevens; eight grandchildren, Teri Ford, Diana Swain, Pamela Ryan, Nicole Wente', Yonah Wente', Bryon Pieper, Tami Pieper, Stephen Pieper; eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Graham Mitchell and the family will pay tribute to Mr. Pieper's life here on earth and rejoice in Charles' new home with the Lord. WILLIAM LEE POFF
PHEONIX, Arizona - William Lee Poff, 55, formerly of Floyd passed away Saturday, September 7, 2002 at his home. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Poff.
Survivors include: his wife, Dana Poff, Pheonix, AZ; two sons, Ray Poff, Pheonix, AZ, J.D. Leuba, Camp Lejune, North Carolina; two daughters, Dawn and Bernie; mother, Treva R. Poff, Vinton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Terri Poff, Willis, Michael and Lisa Poff, Vinton; four grandchildren; niece and husband, Brandie and Rusty Stanley; nephews, Josiah Poff, Michael Poff, Travis Poff, Eric Poff.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Pastor Donnie Glass officiating. Burial followed in Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd, with Military Honors by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854.
HENRY B. SHELOR
FLOYD - Henry B. Shelor, 87, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2002 at Skyline Nursing Home. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Floyd for 73 years. He served his church in the capacity of Elder, Trustee, Sunday School
Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He had a genuine love for children and enjoyed working with them in various church activities.
During World War II he served with the 489th Port Battalion, United States Army, in the South Pacific area. After the war he became an active member of the Floyd VFW Post number 7854 and served one term as commander. As a result of his concern for conservation of natural resources and protection of the environment, he was elected to serve as Director of the Skyline Soil and Water District for 24 years. He also served for four years on the Floyd County Board of Supervisors. He was a machinist/millwright by trade and also owned and operated a farm.
Preceding in death are his parents, Carl and Henrietta Shelor; brother, Earnest Shelor; sister, Eilene Burnet; and a foster son, Jake Richards.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Maude Boyd Shelor; son, Dr. Roger M. Shelor; daughter-in-law, Dr. Barbara Moore Shelor of Athens, Ohio; son, Allan Shelor, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Deborah, William and Anna Shelor; two brothers, Herbert and George Shelor, Floyd; several nieces and nephews; dear friends, Dorothy Harmon and Karen Smith.
A memorial service was held at the Presbyterian Church of Floyd on September 15, 2002 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Shirley Larson presiding. FLOYD - Effie Harris Williams, 91, passed away Monday, September 16, 2002 in a Roanoke hospital.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Floyd where she was a choir member, also a member of the Floyd Womans Club and Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.M. "Jack" Williams; parents, Giles and Nancy Harris; brothers, Clarence and Quentin Harris.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Donald R. and Brenda Williams, Floyd; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Larie Holmes, Vienna, Phyllis and Jim Ammons, Shipman; grandchildren, Gregory Williams, Jennifer Williams, Brooklyn, NY; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lacie Kemp, Dugspur, Euna and James Cassell, Roanoke, Beulah Johnson, Narrows; several nieces and nephews.

FLOYD - Elvin Lee Belcher, 59, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2002 at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, John Abe Belcher and an infant daughter. He served his country in the United States Army.

CAROL DICKERSON
COPPER HILL - Ms. Carol Dickerson, 54, passed away December 5, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Kathryn Dickerson. She was also preceded in death by two sisters.
Surviving are two brothers, Edward L. Dickerson, San Francisco, California, John (Darlene) Dickerson, Roanoke; one sister, Gloria (Rev. Edward) Wade, Ferrum; two special nieces, Lisa Fuller, Kathryn Williamson, both of Martinsville; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount with Reverend Robert Smith officiating. Arrangements were handled by Serenity Funeral Home.
ELDON DICKERSON
PENNSYLVANIA - Eldon Dickerson, 86, formerly of Willis, died Thursday, December 5, 2002 at his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He was born in Willis to the late Larry Blaine Dickerson and Frankie Emma Keith and was the widower of Lucretia Fryberger Dickerson. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in West Chester.
A decorated veteran of the United States Army. He served with the 797th Military Police Battalion in WWII. Following his service, he worked as a Master Welder. He then became a Master Tool and Die Maker with Lasko Metal Products in West Chester, PA. In his 25 years with Lasko, Eldon made significant contributions as the company designing components for the US Military's Missile Program.
Eldon's love for design continued long after his retirement from Lasko at 75 years of age. He was an extremely talented and versatile artisan in wood and metal working. Other cherished pastimes included gardening and winemaking. Family and friends looked forward to gifts of harvest and autumn wine. His many talents were exceeded only by his love for his family.
He is survived by: three daughters, Virginia Wilson, West Chester, Pennsylvania, Carolyn Vukmanic, San Francisco, California, Lorraine Mattis, Linwood, New Jersey. He is also survived by his sister, Iris Poff, Willis; as well as 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Additionally he is survived by stepchildren, Kenny Fryberger, Raymond Fryberger, Kerry Fryberger, Keith Fryberger, Kevin Fryberger and Kathy Baker. He returned to his home state for his final resting place.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December10, 2002 at Saint Mark Lutheran Church in Willis with Pastor Paul Pingel officiating. Burial followed in Slusher Cemetery. MATHEW A. DUGGER
PATRICK SPRINGS - Mathew A. Dugger, 14, died Wednesday, December 4, 2002 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born on July 24, 1988 in Kissimmee, Florida. He was a ninth grade student at Patrick County High School and attended Martinsville Christian Fellowship. He was a member of the Patrick County High School Golf Team, and had played football when he attended Hardin Reynolds Memorial School.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emmett L. Dugger, Sr., Bettye V. Andersen and Arthur M. Andersen. Mathew is survived by his parents, E. Lee Dugger, Jr. and Tina Andersen Dugger, Scenic Drive, Patrick Springs; two sisters, Rachel Adams, Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Amanda Dugger of the home; his grandparents, Mauryne Dugger of Jacksonville, Florida and Dewey L. Lumpkin, Jr. of Rome, Georgia; an exchange student, who he considered a brother, Hardy Bloess; his girlfriend, Camber Hall, aunt, Dorian Dugger, Willis.

FLOYD - Zora Akers Dulaney, 82, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was a beloved wife and mother and a member of Grace Brethren Church of Riner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Griff and Maude Akers, brothers, Herman Akers, James Akers, Ervin Akers, N.F. Akers and J.C. Akers, and a sister, Ruby Akers.
Survivors include: her husband of 62 years, Hugh A. Dulaney, Floyd; one daughter, Judy G. FLOYD - Alice Boothe Kingrea, 91, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2002.
She was a teacher in the Floyd County School system for 20 years. She was a charter member, as well as, an honorary member of the Floyd County Womens Club.
She served many years as a teacher for the Head Start Program. She was a devoted member of Floyd United Methodist Church and the Womans Society of Christian Service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette H. Kingrea.
She is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Shelby Kingrea, Floyd; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alice and Syd Byrne, Naples, Florida; two grandchildren and spouse: Kimberly and Richard Ingram, Floyd; Sean Byrne, Milford, Con; two great grandchildren, Brian Ingram, Amber Ingram.

WILLIS - Buford Edward Quesenberry, 69, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2002 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Truman Quesenberrry.
Survivors include: his wife, Lillian E. KATE BOARD
FLORIDA - Kate H. Board, 77, formerly of Christiansburg and Charlottesville, died December 20, 2002. For 57 years she was the loving and loyal wife of James E. Board. She was born March 23, 1925 in Hillsville and was the daughter of the late P.F. and Hattie Hanks.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Board, Lutz, Florida; one son, James Earl Board and his wife Maria; grandchildren, Lisa, Sara and James Jr. of Charlottesville; brothers Frank Hanks and Edward Hanks, both of Christiansburg; sisters, Helen Ireland of Jacksonville, Florida and Faye Hanks Worell of Sanford, Florida. Kate suffered for 57 years from a debilitating disease, Myasthenia Gravis. She also suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis. Through all this, she maintained a wonderful attitude and zest for life.
A graveside memorial service to inter her ashes will be held at 11:00 a.m., May 3, 2003, at Wilson Cemetery, Check. Arrangements are being handled by Wood Funeral Home.
EMMETT E. DAVIS
FLOYD - Emmet E. Davis, 89, went home to be with the Lord Friday, April 25, 2003 at Richfield Nursing Center. He was preceded in death by his wife Manilla B. Davis and two sons, Harden L. and Mason T. Davis.
He was a long time member and deacon of Topeco Church of the Brethren. Daddy will sadly be missed by five sons, George W. Davis and wife Carol of Goode, Sheldon "Curt" Davis and wife Dorothy, Norman E. Davis and wife Joann, Jack L. Davis and wife Gail, all of Roanoke, Robert L. Davis and wife Cheri of Floyd; three daughters, Ronda and husband Carlile Harris, Rebecca "Jill" and husband Richard Hylton all of Floyd, Jeanette and husband Gary Cockram of Roanoke; two special daughters-in-law, Linda W. Davis of Salem, and Carolyn D. Reed of Floyd; one sister, Jane Bowen of Maryland; two half-sisters, Edna Jarrell of Galax and Virgie Nester of Meadows of Dan. Mr. Davis was grandfather to 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2003 at Topeco Church of the Brethren with Reverend Mike Varner officiating. Interment

CHRISTIANSBURG - Jerry Douglas Dulaney, 55, went to be with his mother and father, Hazel and Dennis Dulaney and his Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 24, 2003.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Rodney Woods of Christiansburg, Cim and Eldon Meredith of Christiansburg; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy (J.D.) and Dru Dulaney of Wytheville; six grandchildren, Zachary, Benjamin, Caleb and Rachel Woods and Amy and Kevin Meredith; brother, Dale Dulaney of Salem; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Merrill Reed of Marion, Mabel and Rodger Smith of Floyd; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful and loving companion, Linda Lawson of Christiansburg. He is also survived by many friends and co-workers throughout the New River Valley. He was an outstanding and loyal employee of Alliant Tech Systems (Radford Army Ammunition Plant) for 28 years. He will be sadly missed in our lives. He was a wonderful, dependable, loving and caring father, friend, Popaw, and brother. There will never be anyone that could ever fill Daddy's shoes. Words could never express the impact you have had and will continue to have on our lives.
Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Reverend Roy Turpin, Reverend Tony Johnson and Reverend Frank Woods officiating. Interment

WILLIS - Etheleen Hill Kendal, 84, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2003 at New River Valley Medical Center. She attended Bluefied Business College and retired from Bluefield Paper Supply. She moved from Bluefield, West Virginia to Willis in 2001 and lived at the old home place and attended Willis United Methodist Church where she was a member.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kendall, her parents, Kyle and Nola Dickerson Hill and a brother Wilmer Hill. Survivors include: foster brother, Gene Draper, Tappahannock; nieces and nephews, Betty Lee and Curtis Brown, Willis, Helen and Jimmy Goad, Roanoke, Ray and Lynn Hill, Lake Charles, LA, Henry and Mary Ann Hill, Dugspur, Harry and Judy Hill, Willis.
Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lawrence Nuckolls and Reverend Paul Pingel officiating.
