William Rundle Sr. - Croton resident
William Norman Rundle Sr., a resident of Croton-on- Hudson, died June 3 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.
He was 74.
He was born December 15, 1928 in Peekskill to Norman and Helen Gibson Rundle. He was a sales representative for Burke Heat in Hawthorne for eight years before retiring in 2002.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948.
Mr. Rundle was a member of the Peekskill United Methodist Church. He was one of the founders and the first President of the Lapolla Little League in Peekskill.
In 1965, the Knights of Columbus named him Father of the Year.
On February 26, 1984, he married Leda Donovan in Mahopac. He had resided on Croton-on-Hudson since 1995 and formerly was a longtime Peekskill resident.
He is survived by his wife, Leda Rundle of Croton-on- Hudson; four sons, Jeffrey W. Rundle of Croton-on-Hudson, William N. Rundle Jr. of Cortlandt, Thomas E. Rundle of Peekskill, and Steven G. Rundle of La Crescenta, California; three stepdaughters, Roxanne Barnes of Phoenix, Arizona, Tricia Bassett of Croton-on- Hudson, and Carol McDonald of Plattekill, three sisters, Norma Koch of Sebring, Florida, Faye Quirk of Saugerties, New York, and Gerri Bopp of Dobbs Ferry; two brothers, Richard (Buddy) Rundle of East Fishkill, and Frank Rundle of Chino, California; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan Forbush Rundle, who died on November 10, 1978.

Gerard D’Agnese - Yorktown resident
Gerard D’Agnese, a resident of Yorktown, died May 30.
He was 88.
He was the owner and mechanic for an auto service station in Yonkers. He was also a musician in the Westchester Mandolin Orchestra in Yonkers.
He was born March 20, 1915 in Brooklyn to Joseph and Marie Dipersio D’Agnese. He was educated in the Bronx.
On April 27, 1947, he married Mary Boffoli at St. Francis of Rome Church in the Bronx.
He lived in Yorktown Heights for the past four years. Before that, he lived in Yonkers from 1954 to 1996.
Locally, he was a Parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church.
He will be remembered for being a kind and gentle man always seeing the humorous side of life.
Mr. D’Agnese is survived by his spouse, Mary D’Agnese; three sons, Dr. Joseph D’Agnese, Dr. Gerard D’Agnese, and Nicholas D’Agnese; one daughter, Anna Marie Caione; and 10 grandchildren.

Benedetto Nicholas Paonessa - Montrose toddler
Benedetto Nichlas Paonessa, a resident of Montrose, died May 29.
He was 2 years, 11 months old.
He was born June 30, 2000 in Cortlandt.
He is survived by his parents of Montrose, Benedetto and Jeannine Longden Paonessa; brother Giuseppe and Dominick Paonessa; grandparents Giuseppe and Barbara Paonessa of Verplanck and Arthur and Marilyn Longden of Garrison; and great-grand-mother Jeanne Brown of Sugar Grove, Ohio.
Family members who died earlier include his brother Antonio, who passed away October 2, 1997.

John T. Mauro - Montrose resident
John T. Mauro, a resident of Montrose, died May 29.
He was 51.
He worked as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Scarsdale for 21 years.
He was born May 17, 1952 in Mount Vernon to William and Irene Osborne Mauro. He graduated from Mt. St. Michael High School in the Bronx and attended the University of Dallas.
On May 30, 1987, he married Noreen Grodner in Verplanck.
Mr. Mauro is survived by his wife, Noreen Mauro of Montrose; his father and stepmother, William and Terry Mauro of Montrose; his children, Renee Mauro of Orlando, Florida, Brandon Margolis of Croton-on- Hudson, Dustin Margolis of Montrose; sister, Victoria Carrozza of Verplanck; brothers; William Mauro of Montrose and Stephen Mauro of Croton; and a grandson, Gavin Clairmont of Orlando, Florida.
He was predeceased by his mother, Irene Mauro, in 1965.

Robert J. Conklin - Peekskill resident
Robert J. Conklin, a lifetime Peekskill resident, died June 3.
He was 76.
He was born January 5, 1927 in Peekskill to Charles and Mary McGuire Conklin.
He graduated from Assumption Grammar School and attended Peekskill High School.
He served in the U.S. Army with a field artillery unit in the Philippines.
Mr. Conklin married Joan Jurinsky in Assumption. She survives.
He was employed by Sears Roebuck Company in Peekskill as a salesperson in the major appliance department, retiring in the mid-1980s after many years of service.
He was a communicant of Assumption Church, and served as an usher and volunteered his time in the maintenance and upkeep of the church building.
He belonged to the Washington Engine Company and the Cortlandt Hook and Ladder.
Mr. Conklin enjoyed crossword puzzles and followed both baseball and football.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Edward of Utica; one brother, Francis B. Conklin of Peekskill; and two sisters, Elizabeth Alimonti of Shrub Oak and Joan Salvatore of Pico Rivera, California.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Joseph, and two sisters, Marie Wilson and Helen Conklin.

John McCarthy - Buchanan resident
John Balantine McCarthy, resident of Buchanan, died June 2 following a car accident on the way to play his new favorite sport, golf.
He was 34.
He was born in Peekskill Hospital on October 26, 1968 to Elizabeth and Warren McCarthy. He was raised in Croton-on-Hudson and graduated from Croton High School in 1986.
He studied to be a draftsman at BOCES during his junior and senior years, worked at the Harmon Deli as a manager, where he met his wife, Lee Ann Stutler. He proposed the evening before they began working at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
They later moved back to Westchester and were married on June 30, 1990. They both worked at the Westchester Broadway Theatre, which is owned by Lee Ann’s parents, Von Ann and Bill Stutler. He was a waiter for 12 years and loved his job serving and talking with people and working with friends.
He was a member of the Collabergh-Radium Masonic Lodge in Croton on Hudson.
Mr. McCarthy and Lee have two children, Jack Daniel, 8, and Jillian Lee McCarthy, 6.
His father, Warren, passed away in November 2000. Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth, now residing in Bonita Springs, Florida; his brothers, Joseph, Jeffrey, James, and Jay; his sister, Janai McCarthy-Walsh, and his half-sister Susan Berringer; and eight nieces and nephews.
His paternal grandparents are Gladys and Joseph McCarthy and maternal grandparents are Walter and Emma Hanaburgh. Gladys also survived and lives in Oneonta.

Gloria Wilkins - Peekskill resident
Gloria Alise Wilkins, a longtime resident of Peekskill, died June 4 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.
She was 70.
She was born February 10, 1933 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Suluter Smith and Herman G. Saunders.
She was a registered nurse and supervisor for the FDR VA Hospital in Montrose for 38 years, before retiring in March of 1989. After her retirement, she worked at the FDR VA Day Care Center for several years, before retiring in 2002.
She had resided in Peekskill since 1975. Prior to the she lived in Ossining.
She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and her hobbies included traveling and reading.
She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
She is survived by one daughter, Valarie Wilkins Godbee of Peekskill; two sons, Frederick L. Wilkins and Darren A. Wilkins, both of White Plains; two sisters, Penola (Penny) White and Leesther C. Brown, both of Peekskill; one brother, Earl Nelson of Ossining; and eight grandchildren.

Donald A. Myers - former Ossining resident
Donald A. Myers, a former resident of Ossining and a resident of South Seaside Park, New Jersey since 1987, died June 3 in Toms River, New Jersey.
He was 83.
He was born in Ossining on November 15, 1919 to Charles J. and Gladys (Zeliph) Myers.
Mr. Myers was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed with the Ossining Post Office and retired in 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Sophie (Plesich); three sons, Jan Alan (Elaine), Karl and Eric; two granddaughters, Michelle Myers and Nicole Roksvold; and two great-granddaughters Hailey Roksvold and Stella Myers.
Five sisters, Dorothy Plesich, Ida DeCesare, Vivian Cox, Helen Linane and Ruth Nacarrato, and one brother, Ray, predeceased him.

Mary Kappel - Ossining resident
Mary R. Kappel, a lifelong resident of Ossining, died June 7.
She was 88.
She was born December 10, 1914 in Ossining to Gabrielle and Marguerite Galto.
She was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church and a member of the Ossining Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her son Joseph; two daughters, Elizabeth Grasso and Rose Mekulik; one brother, Louis; one sister, Lucy Haggerty; 11 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; and one great- great granddaughter.
Her husband, Joseph E., two brothers, John and Anthony Galto, two sisters, Rose Vespa and Ann Lauer, one great-grandchild, James Robinson, predeceased her.

Gloria Peterson - Cortlandt resident
Gloria Gebest Peterson, a resident of Cortlandt, died May 28 at her home.
She was 78.
She was born December 24, 1924 in Bronxville.
She married Dr. Leslie C. Peterson. He died December 4, 1986.
She was an executive for Mobil Oil Company in New York City for many years, retiring in the early 1980’s.
She was an avid photographer and artist.

Joseph Corbi - Yorktown resident
Joseph J. Corbi, a longtime resident of Yorktown, died after a long illness June 6 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
He was 78.
He worked as a meat cutter for A&P in Bedford Hills. He was with the company for 32 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the AFL-CIO.
He was born December 1, 1924 in New York City to Nicholas and Maria Cocchiarelli Corbi. He was educated in the Bronx and graduated from James Monroe High School in 1942.
Mr. Corbi served in the Army from 1943 to 1945, attaining the rank of Private First Class and served with the 1st Infantry Division – “The Big Red One” – in the D-Day Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle of Normandy, the Ardennes Rhineland, Central Europe and Northern France. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the African and Middle Eastern Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
On June 24, 1950, he married Anna Romano at Holy Cross Church in the Bronx. He lived in Yorktown for the past 46 years. Locally, he was President of his condominium association.
He will be remembered for his generosity and love for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Corbi; sons Nicholas and Dominick Corbi; granddaughter Kristen Corbi and grandson Matthew Corbi; and by his brother, Eliadoro Corbi.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas Corbi, Attilio Corbi and Luciano Corbi, and two sisters, Ida Joyce and Josephine Rinaldi.

Colonel Joseph Lee Mastran - Peekskill resident
Colonel Joseph Lee Mastran of Peekskill died May 15.
He was 87.
He was born July 22, 1915.
Mr. Mastran obtained a competitive appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, where among other achievements, he conducted the West Point Symphony Orchestra. After graduating in 1940, he became a member of the First Special Service Force, the elite commando unit known as “The Devil’s Brigade.” During the war, he landed at the Anzio Beachhead and marched into Rome with the first Americans. He briefly served as the Burgermeister of Dusseldorf, the Commandant of a German POW camp, and worked behind enemy lines with the French Underground. He was a decorated combat soldier.
After the war, he obtained a Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Finance. Among his peacetime achievements was directing a research and development program for the Eisenhower Atoms for Peace program – the irradiation of food to make it safe without refrigeration. He attended the Command and General Staff Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He was stationed in Alaska and Hawaii and the DC area for most of his career.
He also worked for many years with Non-Appropriated Funds to ensure commissary and exchange workers had proper health care and retirement benefits. Colonel Mastran was one of the few officers in his class to be recalled to active duty after 30 years office.
He was a wonderful soldier, musician, husband and father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Mastran is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Pauline Mastran; his brother, John Mastran; his sons, David V. and Joseph L. Jr; one daughter, Christie Marlowe; three grandchildren, David B. Mastran, Susannah Kvasnicka and Jeremy Mastran; and five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Gabrielle, Joseph, Timothy and Amanda.

John Loughlin - former Cortlandt resident
John F. Loughlin, a former Cortlandt resident, died June 4 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.
He was 72.
For the past 21 years he worked as a cook for the Jewish Child Care Agency in Pleasantville.
He was an animal lover.
He married Patricia D. Langer in Peekskill on May 29, 1993.
He resided in Cortlandt Manor for many years before moving to Pleasantville 21 years ago.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Loughlin is survived by three daughters, Tammy Gordineer, Patricia Smith and Nancy Norton; three sons, Richard, John and James Gordineer; one sister, Claire; 31 grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
