Mr. Archie Jeffries
BURLINGTON - Mr. Archie Jeffries, 61, of 2528 Evergreen Ave., died at 6:12 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Betty F. Jeffries, who survives, and the son of Mr. James Archie Jeffries and Mrs. Mandy T. Jeffries, both deceased. He was a retired brick mason and a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Victor Jeffries of Elon College and Mr. Tyrone Jeffries of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Allen, Mrs. Julia Allen and Ms. Clara Jean Jeffries, all of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. William Jeffries and Mr. James Jeffries, both of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Coy Jeffries and Mr. George Jeffries.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer United Church of Christ by the Rev. Larry E. Covington, pastor. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.
Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gilmer Jackson
KENDALL PARK, N.J. - Mrs. Gilmer N. Worth Jackson, 87, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Franklin Health Care Center in Franklin, N.J.
A native of Graham, she was the wife of Mr. Sam W. Jackson, who survives. She had lived in New York for 37 years, in Plainfield for 13 years and Kendall Park for the past 12 years. She was a homemaker and a former member of Mount Zion AME Church in Plainfield.
Survivors other than her husband of Kendall Park include a daughter, Ms. Latifah Shabazz (Nancy Jackson) of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Ms. Emma W. Kelly of Plainfield and Ms. Annie W. Everette of Graham; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at noon today at Brown's Funeral Home in Plainfield.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mrs. Alma S. Wrenn
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Alma Ruth Shelton Wrenn, 86, of 816 Stockard St., died at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Allie David Wrenn, and the daughter of Mr. Samuel Shelton and Mrs. Martha Whitesell Shelton, both deceased. She was a retired hosiery employee.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Theda Vancil and Mrs. Barbara Wood, both of Burlington; three sons, Mr. Willard Wrenn of Burlington, Mr. Donald Wrenn of West End and Mr. David Wrenn of Elon College; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Loy of Burlington, Mrs. Josephine Mitchell of Mebane and Mrs. Pauline Reaves of Robbins; two brothers, Mr. Woodrow Shelton and Mr. James Shelton, both of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Kenneth Wrenn; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Crumpton and Mrs. Mabel Lee; and a brother, Mr. Luther Shelton.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Mr. Philip Bomberger. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Samuel Shomaker Sr .
BURLINGTON - Mr. Samuel R. Shomaker Sr., 73, of 1522 Regency Drive, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at the Hospice Home of Burlington after an illness of two years.
A native of Russell County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Betty Murray Shomaker, who survives, and the son of Mr. Reynolds S. Shomaker and Mrs. Katheryn Livesay Shomaker, both deceased. He was the owner of Shomaker Oil Service and served as a technical sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Elon College and was a member of the Oil Dealers Association and a former member of the Elon Exchange Club. He was a member of Elon College Community Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Sandra) Shull of Baton Rouge, La.; three sons, Mr. Samuel R. Shomaker Jr. of Burlington, Mr. Kim Murray Shomaker of Elon College and Mr. Robert ``Bo'' Shomaker of Charlotte; a brother, Mr. Edward Shomaker of Salisbury; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Magnolia Cemetery by the Rev. Arch Aitcheson, pastor of Elon College Community Church.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Margaret Moize
GRAHAM - Mrs. Margaret Shambley Moize, 89, of 313 N. Maple St., died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Turner Whitfield Moize Jr., and the daughter of Mr. Albert Shambley and Mrs. Katie Brown Shambley, both deceased. She was a retired textile employee and was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Christine King, Mrs. Brenda Lassiter and Mrs. Ruth Jones, all of Burlington, Mrs. Hazel Saunders of Greensboro, Miss Shirley Moize of Gibsonville, and Mrs. Judy Truitt and Mrs. Vivian Eastwood, both of Elon College; two sons, Mr. Turner ``Junior'' Moize of Virginia and Mr. Bobby Moize of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Turner of Graham; three brothers, Mr. Walter Shambley, Mr. David Shambley and Mr. Gordon Shambley, all of Graham; 40 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Miss Mary Catherine Moize and Mrs. Mildred Walters.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Freeman Gerow and the Rev. Doug Lassiter. Burial will be in Bethlehem Presbyterian Church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home of Mrs. Ruth Jones, 515 S. Beaumont Ave., Burlington.

Mr. Samuel Hawkins
TROY - Mr. Samuel ``Sam'' T. Hawkins of 701 S. Main St., formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 24, 1998, at Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Troy.
The family will be at the home.

Mrs. Ethel R. Davis
HIGH POINT - Mrs. Ethel Ring Davis, 79, of 512 Clover Drive, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital after six weeks of failing health.
Born March 25, 1918, in Surry County, she was the wife of Mr. Casper Lee Davis, who died Oct. 12, 1981. She was the daughter of Mr. Joseph M. Ring and Mrs. Mollie Miller Ring, both deceased. She had lived in High Point most of her life and was a retired employee of Adams-Millis Inc. She was a member of Albertson Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Lillie McCormick Barnhardt of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Glenn M. Ring and Mr. John C. McCormick; and three sisters, Mrs. Josephine R. Sawyer, Ms. Opal R. Hicks and Ms. Katie M. Cox.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Albertson Road Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Vaughn. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
The family will be at Cumby Mortuary in Archdale from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

Mrs. Delcie O. Davis dies at age 100
GOLDSTON - Mrs. Delcie Oldham Davis, 100, of 411 Daurity Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at her home.
A native of Chatham County, she was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Alfred Davis of Goldston; two daughters, Ms. Ruth Taylor of Winston-Salem and Ms. Virginia Lynch of Burlington; two sisters, Ms. Bertha Lloyd of Raleigh and Ms. Helen Eppley of Vienna, Va.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Rigney. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening.

Rev. James Thompson
MEBANE - The Rev. James L. Thompson, 96, of 4921 U.S. 70 West, Efland, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at his home.
A lifelong resident of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Celia Robinson Hayes Thompson. He was pastor of many churches and before his death was pastor of Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church in Efland.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include four daughters, the Rev. Pauline Slade and the Rev. Ethel M. Daniels, both of Burlington, Mrs. Josephine H. Long of Hillsborough and Mrs. Creola T. Baptiste of Houston; a son, Mr. James Edward Thompson of Stamford, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Bryant of Izanhoe; a brother, Mr. Otha Thompson of Hillborough; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion AME Church, N.C. 86 North, Hillsborugh, by Bishop Samuel D. Clemons and the Rev. Robert Johnson. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Old Mount Zion AME Church cemetery.
The family will be at the church from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Mary S. Lea
YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Mary Sue Lea, 94, of 296 Dillard School Drive, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.
Born Dec. 12, 1903, in Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Roy ``Teebie'' Lea, and the daughter of Mr. James Lea and Mrs. Elizabeth Lea, both deceased. She was a member of High Rock Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Alice King of Plainfield, N.J., and Mrs. Emma Louise Ingram of Yanceyville; a brother, Mr. Ned Lea of Yanceyville; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bobby Murray. Burial will be in Pearson Chapel AME Church cemetery.
The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Fulton Funeral Home.
The family will be at the home.

Mrs. Hazel C. Smith
GRAHAM - Mrs. Hazel Cheek Smith, 84, of Alamance Health Care Center, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at the center after three years of failing health, four days critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. B. Minter Cheek and Mrs. Ida Lovelace Cheek, both deceased.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Adele C. Linens of Graham.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Bertha C. Holt, Mrs. Mabel C. Brown and Mrs. Ola C. Hunter; and three brothers, Mr. Lawrence W. Cheek, Mr. Paul E. Cheek and Mr. R.T. Cheek.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Linwood Cemetery by the Rev. Willard Janey.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 1 to 1:45 this afternoon.

Mrs. Sue G. Thompson
GRAHAM - Mrs. Sue Gilbert Thompson, 55, of 4578-B Bass Mountain Road, Snow Camp, died at 1:48 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at her home after two years of failing health.
A native of Hampton, Va., she was the wife of Mr. Jerry Wayne Thompson, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Johnnie K. Gilbert, who survives, and the late Mr. Frank Gilbert. She was a legal secretary and a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother of Graham include a daughter, Mrs. Tammy Sue Conklin of Snow Camp; a son, Mr. Michael Wayne Thompson of the home; a sister, Mrs. Mary Frances Thompson of Haw River; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rick Moser, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence.

Mrs. Rachel W. Walker
EDEN - Mrs. Rachel Wood Walker, 51, of 416 Elam Ave., died Wednesday night, Feb. 25, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the wife of Mr. John David Walker, who survives. She was employed by Fieldcrest Cannon (General Office). She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Draper.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a son, Mr. Louis Walker of Eden; three brothers, Mr. George Wood of Reidsville, Mr. Phillip Wood and Mr. Homer Wood, both of Eden; three sisters, Ms. Marcine Gray of Greensboro, Ms. Patricia Dunn of Eden and Ms. Virginia Rose of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Draper. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.
The family will be at Fair Funeral Home form 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Henry L. Graves
REIDSVILLE - Mr. Henry Lee Graves, 60, of 92 GSTS Road, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Born Oct. 9, 1937, in Caswell County, he was the son of Mrs. Ressie Watlington Graves, who survives, and the late Mr. Hugh Graves. He was an employee of Monroe Lambert Logging Company. He was a member of Jones Cross Road Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his mother of the home include a son, Mr. Bryant King of Pelham; two daughters, Miss Sandra King and Miss Veronica King, both of Pelham; four brothers, Mr. McArthur Graves of Yanceyville, Mr. Isaiah Graves and Mr. Hugh Graves Jr., both of Reidsville, and Mr. Eddie McCoy Graves of Gibsonville; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Graves Vinson of Yanceyville and Mrs. Ruby Price of Burlington; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sweet Gum Grove Baptist Church, N.C. 119, by the Rev. John Watlington. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Grady R. Andrews
GRAHAM - Mr. Grady Robert Andrews, 86, formerly of Flowers Street, died at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Alamance after six months of failing health.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dottie Wilson Andrews, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert Shephard and Mrs. Susie Wheeley Andrews, both deceased. He was retired from Cone Mills in Haw River after 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was a member of Graham Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors other than his wife of Graham include two brothers, Mr. Joseph C. ``J.C.'' Andrews of Burlington and Mr. Samuel ``Sam'' Andrews of Graham; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Turner.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Linwood Cemetery by the Rev. James C. Moon, pastor of Deep Creek Baptist Church.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before the service.

Mrs. Ophelia Knighten
GRAHAM - Mrs. Ophelia May Glenn Knighten, 86, of 2846 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Road, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center after a long period of failing health.
A native of Durham, she was the wife of the late Mr. Loman Melvin Knighten Sr., and the daughter of Mr. Gattis Glenn and Mrs. Addie Ola Dollar Glenn, both deceased. She was retired from Sellars Manufacturing and was a member of Saxapahaw Evangelical Friends Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. James Knighten of Graham and Mr. William Knighten of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Mr. Harold Knighten and Mr. Melvin Knighten.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Saxapahaw Evangelical Friends Church by the Rev. Arnold Faw, pastor, and the Rev. Gaither Reich, former pastor. Burial will be in Moore's Chapel cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. James Knighten, 1648 Petty Road, Graham.

Mrs. Lois B. Woods
PURLEY - Mrs. Lois Burton Woods, 89, of 4575 Old N.C. 86 North, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Roman Eagle Nursing Center in Danville, Va.
Born July 17, 1908, in Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. John A. Woods, who died April 21, 1961, and the daughter of Mr. John Drewry Burton and Mrs. Claudia Compton Burton, both deceased. She was a former school teacher at Providence School. She was a dietitian for DPI and operated a catering service from her home. She was a member of Caswell Chapter 239 Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Daughter of Confederates. She was a member of Purley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Andy G. Woods and Mr. John B. Woods, both of Purley; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Purley Untied Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Floyd R. Morrow.
The family will be at Marley Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the homes of her sons.

Miss Patricia D. Bare
GRAHAM - Miss Patricia Diane Bare, 36, of 3167 Pickwood Drive, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center after an illness of one month.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Sonny Bare and Mrs. Peggy Wilson Bare, who both survive. She was a waitress and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her parents of the home include two sisters, Mrs. Janice Bare Lloyd and Mrs. Joyce Bare Ritter, both of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Tommy Bare of Burlington; and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Myrtle Long Wilson of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Allan Ritter, pastor of North Graham Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jackie Franks, pastor of Kimesville Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Kimesville Road Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 1 to 2:30 Sunday afternoon before the service, and at other times at the home.
