DAYTON E. (ROKEY) ROKENBROD
HORNELL - Dayton E. (Rokey) Rokenbrod, 82, of 239 Grand St., died Wednesday (Nov. 24, 1999), at Mercycare, where he had resided for the past 7 months.
He was born June 27, 1917, in Hornell, the son of John and Gertrude Woolworth Rokenbrod. He was married April 12, 1947 in Hornell to Mary Jane Matacale, who died in 1988. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Vincent and Lois Danielson.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, he was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1934.
In his early years, he worked at the Hornell Distribution Center for the former Swift's Maetpacking Inc., Hornell. Then he joined the NYSDOT engineering group, and retired in July 1979. Upon retirement, he and his wife operated Mary Jane's Ceramics out of their home.
An avid golfer, Dayton was a 50 year member of the Hornell Country Club and was a past champion. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends with a "day at the course" and especially looked forward to shooting a round of golf with his sons and nephews.
Dayton served with the U.S. Army during World War II in England. He was also a member of the Arthur H. Cunningham Post #440 American Legion of Hornell, Hornell Lodge #364 B.P.O.E. and the Hornell High School Alumni Association.
He will be remembered as a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend with a great sense of humor and a love for the game of golf.
Survivors include his daughter Jean (Thomas) Todd of Hornell; two sons, John Rokenbrod of Chesterfield, Va.; and William (Dianne) Rokenbrod of Hornell; eight grandchildren, Catherine Thomas of Yardley, Penn.; Lori Todd of Laurel, Md.; John Rokenbrod of Mechanicsville, Va.; Matthew Rokenbrod of Richmond, Va.; Kendra, Alicia, and Erica Rokenbrod and James Todd all of Hornell; two great grandchildren, Connor and Cara Thomas; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Robertson Funeral Home, Inc., Hornell, where funeral services will be held Sunday (Nov. 28) at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Canaseraga Cemetery, Canaseraga.

MARY CECILIA CLANCY FLYNN
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Mary Cecilia Clancy Flynn died Tuesday (Nov. 23, 1999) at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C.
She was born Dec. 4, 1914 in Olean.
She attended St. Ann's grade school and Hornell High School, and graduated from D'Youville College in Buffalo. She taught high school in Arkport, Manchester, and Tonawanda before marrying Archie Patrick Flynn on June 9, 1945 in Buffalo. They were transferred to Washington, D.C. in late 1945 near the end of World War II and settled near Catholic University in the heavily Irish Brookland section of northeast Washington D.C. In 1950, they moved to Chevy Chase, Md., where she continued to reside until her death. While raising five children, she was active in the Catholic Youth Organization and the Mothers Club of Our Lady of Lourdes School, Gonzaga High School, St. John's High School, and Holy Cross High School. She was a substitute teacher in the Montgomery County school system and worked at Blackistone Florist in Bethesda. She also worked as a volunteer for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. In addition, she was a founding member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Silver Spring, Md.
Her husband of 50 years, Archie Patrick Flynn, died March 28, 1996.
She is survived by her four sons and a daughter, Dr. A. Patrick Flynn of Potomac, Md.; Thomas Emmett Flynn of Arlington Heights, Ill.; Maj. Robert F. Flynn of Cazenovia, N.Y.; Francis J. Flynn of Damascus, Md.; and Margaret Mary Clancy Flynn of Silver Spring, Md.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
FREDERICK E. FEIOCK
CLYDE - Frederick E. Feiock, 71, of 1776 Jenkins Rd., died Sunday (Nov. 21, 1999) at his home following an extensive illness.
Frederick was born on February 1, 1928 in Lyons. He was the son of Irving and Louise Galens Feiock. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army Air Corp., and a member of the VFW Post 947 in Clyde. Frederick was retired from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 840 of Geneva, where he was employed as an electrician.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Cimineri Feiock of Clyde; one son, Mr. Gerald (Sarah) Feiock of Churchville; two daughters, Mrs. Marietta (James) Sparro of Hornell; and Mrs. Jeanne (Lester) VanCleef of Clyde; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Amanda Feiock; Melissa and Emily Lawrence; David and Lisa Sparro; Lee VanCleef; three sisters, Mrs. Gloria Quinn; Mrs. Marilyn Mills; and Mrs. Shirley Mott, all of Newark; aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends called Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Baris Funeral Home, 87 West Genesee St., Clyde. A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday in St. John's the Evangelist R.C. Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Leo Reinhardt officiating. Entombment was in the Garden Crypts of St. John's Cemetery, Clyde.

WAYLAND - Richard E. Abbott Sr., 87, of 10968 Rte. 21 South, Wayland, died today (Nov. 26, 1999) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.

JAMES X. HARKENRIDER
REXVILLE - James X. Harkenrider, 78, of Loomis Rd., entered into rest on Tuesday (Nov. 23, 1999) at the Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville, where he had resided since 1997.
He was born in the town of West Union, on May 7, 1921, to James C. and Rose O'Hargan Harkenrider. On Dec. 2, 1950 in St. Joachim's Church in Canisteo, he married Geraldine O'Dell, who survives.
James had lived his life in the town of West Union, where he was engaged in dairy farming and was a cattle trucker. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Rexville and was predeceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Robert, Gerald and Neil Harkenrider; and three sisters, Rita Anderson, Mary Agnes Connolly and Catherine Rollins.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Geraldine Harkenrider; his four sons, Michael (Linda) Harkenrider; Christopher Harkenrider; and Patrick Harkenrider all of Rexville; Stephen (April) Harkenrider of Whitesville; his two daughters, Susan Harkenrider of Rexville; Monica Harkenrider of Andover; his brother, Emmett Harkenrider of Rexville; his sister, Margaret Austin of Troupsburg; his three grandchildren, Krista Harkenrider of Buffalo; Kathleen and Joshua Harkenrider both at the SUNY at Cobleskill; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Rexville and burial will be in the St. Mary's Churchyard Cemetery in Rexville. Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.

ALVIN J. MANELIS
HENRIETTA - Alvin J. Manelis, 77, passed away Sunday (Nov. 21, 1999) at the Rochester General Hospital.
Alvin was a retiree of the Eastman Kodak Co., a World War II veteran, and an avid golfer.
Alvin married the former Ruth Havens in Hornell on Nov. 14, 1943.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Henrietta; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Charles) Siegfried of Howard and Lorraine (Peter) Iwema of Scarsdale; three grandchildren, Logan Deruelle, Krissa Saldana and William Siegfried; and mother-in-law Katherine Havens of Hornell.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home of Henry D. Halloran Son, Inc., 5781 W. Henrietta Road (Route 15), Henrietta. Interment
will be private.

EDWARD WILLIAM LaPIANA
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Edward William LaPiana, died peacefully at home Feb. 20, 2000, formerly of Hornell. He was born in Wayland in 1923, the son of James and Sarah Vacanti LaPiana.
He graduated from Hornell High School. Ed was a World War II veteran of the European Theater. He earned a purple heart for a shrapnel wound.
Ed worked with his three brothers in his family owned business, LaPiana's Shoe Store.
Ed was predeceased by his son Michael.
Surviving relatives includes his devoted wife of 50 years, Doris (VanKeuran) LaPiana; his daughter, Sharon LaPiana Lisi (John) and grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan of Greer, S.C.; plus his sister Sylvia LaPiana Carrig of Hornell and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home in Gainesville, Fla. Burial will follow at Bushell National Cemetery in Fla.

RALPH E. HURST, M.D.
WINTER PARK, Fla. - Ralph E. Hurst, M.D., 78, of North Park Ave., died Feb. 8, 2000.
He was born in Ridley Park, Pa., raised in Rochester, and moved to Winter Park, Fla., in 1952. Dr. Hurst was an Internist and practiced in Winter Park from 1955 to 1986. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was at various times during his career, President of the Medical Staff of Winter Park Memorial Hospital, Chief of the Medical Section, member of the Board of Trustees, member of the Foundation Board and member of the Advisory Board of the Adult Day Care Center.
During his early years in Winter Park, he was the doctor for the Glenridge Junior High School and the Winter Park Senior High School Football Teams. He was also on the Board of the Winter Park Community Chest.
Dr. Hurst graduated from Brighton High School in Rochester, Williston Academy in Easthampton, Ma., from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and from New York Medical College in N.Y.C. He was a member of the Country Club of Orlando, the University Club of Winter Park, the Bristol Harbour Golf Club of Canandaigua, and the Florida Medical Association.
He was a member of the Winter Park Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Hurst was predeceased by his son, Ralph E. Hurst III, and leaves his wife of 55 years, Jane; a daughter, Alison Hurst Mikel; granddaughter, Emery Mikel; and grandsons, Jory Mikel, Ralph E. Hurst IV and Benjamin B. Hurst.

HORNELL - Pearl V. Sanford, 77, a resident of the Elcor Nursing Home, died Sunday (Feb. 20, 2000) at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira.
Born in Hornell, a daughter of James and Mertie Flint Sanford, she had resided her early life in Arkport, and for several years in Horseheads.
Surviving are two sisters, Agnes Reynolds of Canisteo; Beverly Bailey of Horseheads, one brother, Robert Sanford of Hornell; nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held for the family at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Hornell. Burial will be in Arkport Cemetery.
LOYD D. "CHUCK" WARDEN
LENEXA, Kan.- Loyd D. "Chuck" Warden, 69, passed away peacefully (Feb. 8, 2000) at home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 11 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa. Visitation was Thursday (Feb. 10) at the Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa.
Chuck was born in Texola, Okla., Jan. 5, 1931, and was a Korean War Veteran, serving our country while stationed in Japan. After being discharged, he attended school in Okmulgee, Okla., where he started his printing career. He taught vocational printing at Turner High School, then started his own business, Overland Park Printing Co., where he employed many of his former students. After retirement, he enjoyed weekends at Truman Lake in Warsaw, Mo.
He leaves his devoted wife of 48 years, Fran, of the home; his son, Marc of Kingston, N.Y.; and grandchildren, David, Laura, Theresa, and Steven; his daughter, Mary Murphy and her husband Bill of Mission; and grandchildren, Billy, John, Bob, Molly, Ali and Caroline. Chuck was proud of his grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Louis Warden and his wife, Billie Jean of Paden, Okla.; Ray Warden and his wife Vernice of McKinney, Texas; three brothers-in-law, Anthony Prattico of Hornell; Joseph Prattico and his wife Carolyn and James and his wife Alice all of Rochester; sister-in-law Domenica DeFazio of Scranton, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Chuck touched the lives of all those he met.

MILDRED A. "MILLIE" PORTER
DANSVILLE - Mildred A. "Millie" Porter, 67, of Baldwin Drive, passed away Monday afternoon (Feb. 14, 2000) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, following a short illness.
She was born in Groveland, on Feb. 17, 1932, a daughter of Frank and Minnie Lowry Watson. On June 8, 1962, she was married to Joseph R. Porter, who predeceased her on July 29, 1997. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Millie Ann, and her siblings, Glenn, George, Roy, Frank, Frank II, and Mabel Watson, Gladys Bennett and Emma Austin.
Millie retired from Craig Developmental Center as a Developmental Assistant. She enjoyed making jewelry crafts and listening to her nephew Sandy Watson play the fiddle. Millie was a member of the Woman of the Moose at the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1130 of Dansville.
She is survived by four sisters, Mary Shepard of East Avon; Neva Hargrave of Fla.; Alice (Thomas) Mc Eachern of Dansville; Lottie (Louis) Bernard of Texas; several nieces, nephews, step children and her dear friend, Donna Malone.

JOSEPH F. GANGEMI
HORNELL - Joseph F. Gangemi, 85, of 20 Worden Street, Bath, formerly of Hornell, died early Tuesday morning (Feb. 15, 2000) at Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath, following a long illness.
Born in Galeton, Pa., on Oct. 12, 1914, he was the son of James and Josephine Gangemi. He resided most of his life in Hornell, moving to Bath, N.Y. about 25 years ago.
While in Hornell, Joe was employed at the former Erie Railroad for 28 years. He was later employed for about 10 years at the NYS Department of Labor in Bath, retiring 23 years ago. He was a former communicant of St. Ann's Church of Hornell and currently was a member of St. Mary's Church in Bath.
Joe was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of both the Hornell Elks Lodge and Bath Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Francesca Cardamone, Mary Leuzzi, Rose Mazzella and Leatha Cardman and his brother, Ralph "Rocky" Gangemi.
He was married in 1936 to the former Helen Yracone, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Josephine (Raymond) Argentieri of Rochester; one son, John (Clare) Gangemi of Buffalo; two sisters, Lena Leto of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Angie Mardo of Hornell; one brother, Nick (Betty) Gangemi of Hornell; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Hornell. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are in care of Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell.
DELORES E. EISENHARDT
WELLSVILLE - Delores E. Eisenhardt, formerly of Olean and Hornell, passed away Monday (Feb. 14, 2000) in the Wellsville Manor Skilled Nursing Facility.
Born Nov. 8, 1906, in Hornell, she was the daughter of Joseph and Bessie Vanort Walters. On Feb. 10, 1924 in Hornell, she married Donald W. Eisenhardt, who passed away in 1965.
Mrs. Eisenhardt and her husband moved to Olean in 1939, where they owned and operated the 11th Street Triangle Grocery Store for 10 years. After her husband's death, Mrs. Eisenhardt returned to Hornell. She worked as a tube tester for Westinghouse in Bath until her retirement in 1967. Mrs. Eisenhardt was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Hornell for 81 years.
Surviving are one son, Donald R. (Mainie) Eisenhardt of Cuba; seven nieces and nephews, Delores Stewart of Jasper; Bucky Brownell of Hornell; Pauline Ashbaugh of Cameron; Shirley Sherwood of Jasper; Walter Brownell of Lacey, Wash.; Stanley Brownell of Canisteo and Clara Brownell of Jasper; several great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one sister, Helen Brownell from Bath.
There will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean.

JOHN A. GOULD
SPRINGWATER - John A. Gould, formerly of 7627 East Avenue, died Tuesday (Feb. 15, 2000) at the Avon Nursing Home in Avon.
John was born August 7, 1914 in Rochester, the son of John and Emily Lond Gould and resided all of his life in the Rochester-Penfield area, prior to moving to Springwater in 1972.
John married the former Jane M. Gosnell, July 16, 1938 in Rochester. She predeceased him on March 9, 1998.
Prior to retiring in 1972, he was employed for over 40 years with the Kodak Co. of Rochester and at the time of retirement he was a Production Supervisor in the Kodak Coloring Processing Department.
John was an active Mason, a member of the Springwater Fire Department and a life member of the Springwater Rod and Gun Club.
Predeceased by his wife, Jane, he was also predeceased by a daughter, Barbara in 1938.
He is survived by six sons, John (Celestine) Gould of Virginia Beach; Charles (Pam) Gould of Greece; Robert (Mary) Gould of Moravia; Larry (Eileen) Gould of N. Chili; Rick (Sharon) Gould of Springwater; and Alan (Pam) Gould of Wayland; two daughters, Dorothy (Mark) Nelson of Hyrum, Utah; and Peggy (Gerald) Guerra of Farmington; 28 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Friends will be invited to attend a memorial service at the Springwater United Methodist Church in Springwater at a time to be announced.

HORNELL - James J. Silsby, 60, of 146 Thacher Street, Hornell, died Wednesday (Feb. 16, 2000) at his home, following a brief illness.

ANNA MAE (KOWALCYK) MARTIN
AVOCA - Anna Mae (Kowalcyk) Martin, 62, has been joined with the angels on Feb. 14, 2000, after a long illness.
She was born on Oct. 24, 1937 in Bradford, where she lived until her marriage to Roland X. Martin on Oct. 4, 1958.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley (Sophia Halas) Kowalcyk and her only brother, Stanley Kowalcyk, Jr., who resided in Hammondsport.
Anna Mae is survived by her husband of 41 years, Roland X. Martin. They spent most of their life together in Avoca, where they raised five children: three daughters, Mary E. Martin of Avoca; Carol (R. Eric) Eaton of Avoca; and Beverly (Robert) Schumacher of Avoca; a niece, Karla K. Kowalcyk of Sacramento, Calif.; and a nephew, Kevin (Bonnie) Kowalcyk of Avoca, after the untimely death of their parents Stanley Kowalcyk Jr. and Gladys (Martin) Kowalcyk; eight grandchildren, Adam Eaton, 17, of Avoca; Brandon Eaton, 15, of Avoca; Shawn Eaton, 12, of Avoca; Travis Schumacher, 8, of Avoca; Shannon Eaton, 6, of Avoca; Nicholas Kowalcyk, 6, of Avoca; Alec Schumacher, 5, of Avoca; and Amber Snyder, 3, of Avoca; also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Anna Mae was employed at Corning Glass for 37 years as an Executive Secretary, she retired in 1993. During her employment, she met some very special people that she formed long lasting friendships.
Anna Mae was the captain of the Avoca Ambulance Corps, a member of the Firemen's Auxiliary, helped create the original Avoca Sports Boosters Club, and was chairman of a committee to raise money for new band uniforms for the Avoca Central School.
You would often see Anna Mae cheering on her grandchildren in various sports and her excitement was felt by all.
She and Roland opened Marty's Truck Brokerage in 1993 and worked side by side until its close in November of 1999.
They bought land and built a new home for themselves on Boos Road in Cohocton, N.Y. where they spent five happy years together until her passing at home.
Calling hours will be held at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church on Bradford on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gerald O'Connor as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.

ALETA M. MANSFIELD
WELLSVILLE - Aleta M. Mansfield, 77, formerly of Hornell, died Monday (Feb. 14, 2000) in her home.
Born Nov. 20, 1922, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Herbert and Mary Hilliard Youmans. On Sept. 8, 1943, in Miami Beach, Fla., she married James B. Mansfield, who survives.
Mrs. Mansfield was a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, previously residing in Oswayo, Pa. and Hornell. She attended the Ellisburg Union Church.
Surviving besides her husband are four sons, Donald Mansfield of Wellsville; Thomas Mansfield of Alfred Station; Richard Mansfield of Wayland; and Michael Mansfield of Ontario, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Friends may call Wednesday (Feb. 16) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kear-Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses, Pa., where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. John R. Miller and Rev. Darell Harris co-officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

ANNA MILLS RIBBLE
HORNELL - Anna Mills Ribble, 66, of 190 Greeley Ave., died Sunday night (Feb. 13, 2000) at her home.
Born in Lake Orion, Mich., June 8, 1933, a daughter of Elmer and Ella Gilmore Guild, she had resided in the Canisteo-Hornell area nearly all her life.
Anna had been employed as a waitress at the Texas Hot in Hornell for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hornell and had been active in the church ministry for several years. She will be remembered for the stuffed teddy bears she made and donated to area police departments to carry in patrol cars to give to children who needed comfort following accidents or domestic situations. She enjoyed making cookies and distributing them to doctors and hospital staff and was affectionately called the "Cookie Lady."
Surviving are her husband, Herbert Ribble , who she married July 13, 1985; three daughters, Lois (Steven) Olix of Hornell; Susane (Roy) Daiber of Ohio; Catherine (Sy) Thomas of Arizona; one son, Carl (Michelle) Mills of Jasper; three step-daughters, Carol (James) Grant of Montour Falls; Kathy (Ron) Miller of Hornell; Cindy (Elmer) Wiley of Auburn; step son, Jerry Ribble of Hornell; two half sisters, Florence Potter of Elkland, Pa.; Flora Britz of Mich.; one brother, Elwry (Barbara) Smith of Mich.; 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, and nine step-great grandchildren.
The family will be present 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street, Hornell, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Leo Sherrill officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
Friends wishing to remember Anna are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Dialysis Unit at St. James Hospital or Southern Tier Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
VIRGINIA B. LEVEE
CANASERAGA - Virginia B. Levee, 76, died Feb. 13, 2000.
Born Oct. 6, 1923 in Wellsville to Curtis and Iva Barrett-Butler Sr.
She was a den mother to Boy Scouts in Canaseraga. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 1582 and the Women of the Moose.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; brothers, Richard and Victor.
She is survived by a daughter, Roberta (Joel) Johnson of Holly; three sons, Thomas Levee, Robert (Suzanne) Levee Jr., and Ray (Terry) Levee all of Canaseraga; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Reva Fogle, Nancy Wing, Rebecca Reed and Arlene Ames; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at Mann's Funeral Home in Canaseraga, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Fr. Butch Mothersell officiating. Interment
will be in the Canaseraga Cemetery.
Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Canaseraga American Legion.
