FLORENCE E. LEWIS
AVON - Florence E. Lewis, 77, died Monday (Aug. 21, 2000) at Strong Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Lewis lived at 158 Sackett Rd. in Avon and was previously from Alfred Station.
She was born Jan. 2, 1923 in Geneseo, the daughter of John and Florence (Lyddon) Carney.
She is survived by her daughter, Joann (Sonny) Maynard of Chapel Hill, N.C.; grandchildren, Samantha (Shawn) Toncy, Joann (Bill) Reed, and Peter Maynard; great-grandchildren, Justin and Megan Toncy; her mother, Florence Carney of Geneseo; sisters, Arlene Driscoll of Rochester and Mary Louise (Walter) Bailor of Geneseo; brothers, John (Laura) Carney of Leroy, William (Barbara) Carney of Groveland, Robert (Shirley) Carney of Avon, and Harold (Josephine) Carney of Phelan, Calif.; sister-in-law, Grace Goodall of Louisville, Ky.; aunt, Julia Clements of Avon, step-daughters, Alyce (Jerry) Carpenter of Wellsville and Carol (Andrew) Stevens of Lufkin, Texas; a stepson, Robert (Debbie) Lewis of Alfred Station; step grandchildren, Michael and Elisabeth Lewis and Rachael and Jeremy Stevens; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lewis on May 31, 1999, and her father, John Carney.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church on Reservoir Rd. in Geneseo with Rev. John Zatkiewicz officiating. Interment
will be in the Alfred Rural Cemetery in Alfred. Arrangements were made by Rector-Hicks Funeral Home in Geneseo.

CLAIR J. LANDER
DANSVILLE - Clair J. Lander, 90, of Hillcrest Circle in Dansville, passed away early Monday morning (Aug. 21, 2000), at Noyes Memorial Hospital.
He was born in South Dansville on March 29, 1910, a son of the late James and Dora Weber Lander. On Saturday, Aug. 19, Claire and his wife the former Carmel Perry celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters.
Clair was employed at the Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. of Dansville as the Night Foreman retiring in 1973 after over 40 years of service.
He was a 56-year member of the Dansville Presbyterian Church, a former board member and groundskeeper at the Dansville Fish and Game Club. He also enjoyed the Wednesday afternoon Pitch game at the club. Clair was a member of the Twenty-five Year Club at Foster Wheeler, and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #1130 of Dansville.
Surviving in addition to his dear wife Carmel are his daughter, Joy (Carl) Clauss of Wallingford, Pa.; his son Bruce (Margaret) Lander of Long Beach, Calif.,; three grandchildren, Mark (Sarah) Clauss of Baltimore, Beth Clauss of Philadelphia and Andrew Lander of Long Beach, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville where services will be held at the completion of calling hours at 10 a.m. Interment
will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Dansville.

MARGARET WILKINS
PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Margaret Wilkins passed away on Dec. 9, 1999 at her winter home in Port Rickey, Fla.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond and is survived by three sons, Monte, Richard, and Harold Wilkins and two daughters, Barbara Bennett and Miriam Carroll.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at Arkport Cemetery.
RITA A. BURDETT
HORNELL - Rita A. Burdett, 80, of 136 East Elm St., Hornell, died Monday afternoon at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a long illness.
The family of Rita A. Burdett will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at a time to be announced.

JOHN P. JACK DELANEY
HORNELL - John P. "Jack" Delaney, 72, died Friday afternoon (Aug. 18, 2000) at his home at 549 O'Connor Road ( Town of Hornellsville), following a long illness.
Born in Grand Rapids, Mich. on October 10, 1927, he was a son of the late John J. and Hilda Paulson Delaney.
Jack served with the U.S. Army and was assigned to the Army Research and Graduate School in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Michigan State University, where he majored in Business Administration, he was an administrative resident at Harper Hospital in Detroit, Mich.
He received his Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa and was a resident director of the San Francisco Committee on Hospital and Health Facilities. He was also assistant to the director of the Institute of Administrative Medicine at Columbia University.
A senior consultant at A.J. Rourke Associates in Larchmont, he was also a consultant to the C.E.O. of Mercy Hospital in Bay City, Mich.
Jack came to Hornell in 1961 and was the President, C.E.O., and also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the former Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell. He was also executive director of the Rural Health and Human Services Association of the Southern Tier of New York.
He was a professor of Health Planning and Management at Alfred University, where he established and directed an academic program leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. He retired in 1992 as professor emeritus.
Since 1968 Jack has resided at his O'Connor Road home, where he established and operated Blueberry Hill Farm, which is now operated by his youngest daughter, Marilyn.
His family includes his wife, the former Virginia "Ginny" Knopf, a graduate of Ohio State University, who he married in 1953; his two daughters, Su (David) Berkheimer of Fairfax, Va. and Marilyn Flynn of Arkport; his two grandchildren, Andrew Berkheimer, a senior at MIT and Laura Berkheimer, a sophomore at Virginia Tech; his brother, James (Mary Ann) Delaney of Jacksonville, Fla; and his three nephews.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his son, John Kevin Delaney.
At his request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

HAROLD E. WHITFORD
DANSVILLE - Harold E. Whitford, 87, died Sunday (Aug. 20, 2000) at St. James Mercy Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks.
He was born June 16, 1913 in Hornellsville, the son of the late Silas and Eva (Weld) Whitford. He was married on Dec. 4, 1945 in Bath to Lois M. (McDaniel) Whitford of whom he has been married to for 54 years.
He was employed on the family farm with his father for several years and by the Erie Railroad for eight years. He had been the co-owner and partner for the Beacon Inn on the Almond Road and was owner and operator of the Whitehorse Crest along with his wife for 20 years. Harold also owned and operated his own water well drilling business for 20 years.
He was predeceased by a very special nephew Billy McDaniel in 1992; three sisters, Marion Whitford, Hazel Dunn, and Lillian Clark; three brothers, Robert, Frank, and Max Whitford.
Besides his wife, Lois, he is survived by one daughter, Diane (Pat) Kenney of Dansville and one son, Royce Whitford of Dansville; two grandchildren, Todd (Stacie) Faulds of Florida and Brandi Kenney of Springwater; one great-grandchild Jayson Faulds of Florida; one sister-in-law Ruth Smith of Hornell; two brothers-in-law, Lewis (Shirley) McDaniel of Dansville and Lyle McDaniel of Arkport; several nieces and nephews.

RICHARD J. "DICK" CALNAN
ARKPORT - Richard J. "Dick" Calnan, 81, of 15 East Avenue died Saturday evening (Aug. 19, 2000) at his home, following a long illness.
Born in Leicester on May 12, 1919, he was the son of Fred and Bertha (Flynn) Calnan. He has resided in Arkport for the past 50 years.
Dick spent his entire life in the automotive business. He began in the late 1930s, washing cars at the former Hornell Buick Company. He later became the company's mechanic, a position that he held for many years. In 1956, Dick took over as manager and he purchased the business in 1960, changing the name to Dick Calnan Buick. He owned and operated the dealership until 1964.
In 1964, he established Dick Calnan Auto Sales in Arkport, which later became Dick Calnan Auto Repair. He enjoyed operating the business for the next 30 years.
Dick was a former member and past president of the Hornell Exchange Club and a former board member and past president of Hornell Campfire. The hobby most dear to his heart was restoring vintage cars and tractors.
He was married on Aug. 16, 1947, to the former Elizabeth Rink who died on Aug. 1, 1988.
Surviving are two sons, Fred (Barb) Calnan of Dansville and William (Mary) Calnan of Baldwinsville; two daughters, Mary (Steve) Curtis of Hornell and Sandy (Bill) Karns of Arkport; his friend and companion, Waneta O'Dell of Arkport; seven grandchildren, Debra Robinson, Richard Calnan, Amanda Karns, Edward Karns, Laura Karns, Matthew Calnan and Shawn Calnan; several nieces and nephews.

HERBERT E. WAITE JR.
ALFRED - Herbert E. Waite Jr., 38, of 34 Glen Street, died late Thursday night (Aug. 17, 2000) shortly after arrival at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born June 9, 1962 in North Hampton, Mass., he was the son of Herbert and Phyllis Clark Waite. Herbert moved to Corning in 1967. He had lived in Avoca for a time then in 1985 moved to Alfred Station. He had made his home in Alfred since 1996.
Herbert had been employed at Friendly's Restaurant in Hornell and most recently employed by the Allegany County ARC doing janitorial work.
He was predeceased by his mother, Phyllis in 1989 and a brother, Frank Waite in 1997.
Surviving are his father and step mother Herbert and Linda Waite; two sisters, Linda (Peter) Stull of Alfred Station, and Rebecca Waite of Alfred; two brothers, Dennis Waite of Texas and LeRoy Waite of Alfred; two half brothers, James (Karla) Waite of Rochester, and Michael (Pam) Waite of Bath; a step brother, Robert Fish Jr. of Florida; two step grandmothers, Catherine Clark of Belfast and Evaline Carl of Horseheads; three nieces, a nephew, and several uncles and cousins.

LAGRANGE, Texas - June E. LaBell, 58, of 518 Panorama Rd., LaGrange, Texas, formerly of Wayland died Saturday (Aug. 12, 2000) at the Monument Hill Nursing Home in LaGrange, Texas, after a long illness.
June was born Oct. 4, 1941 in Groveland, the daughter of Erwin and Ada Flint McDowell and resided most of her life in Wayland prior to moving to LaGrange, Texas, in 1983.
She was employed as a bus driver for the Wayland Central School and later was a nurse's aid at the Monument Hill Nursing Home in LaGrange, Texas.
June was predeceased by her father, Erwin McDowell in 1971.
She is survived by her husband, Bertrum LaBell; one son, Bertrum (Pamela) LaBell Jr. of Lockport; three daughters, Pamela Ann Menefee of LaGrange, Texas, Darlene (Robert) O'Keefee of Buffalo, and Debra Lynn (Jesse) of LaGrange, Texas; seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; one sister, Mary (Jack) Shermer of Caledonia.

COHOCTON - Barbara E. Adams, 52, of Park Avenue, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Barbara was born May 25, 1948 in Beaver Valley, Pa., a daughter of Thomas and Clarissa Fletcher. She married Roger Adams on June 11, 1966 in Flinton, Pa., he survives. She was a homemaker and mother of one daughter. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, but most of all her grandsons.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Roger; one daughter, Gale (Tim) MacDougal Sr. of Cohocton; two grandsons, Tim MacDougal Jr. and Adam MacDougal both of Cohocton; two sisters and two brothers, all of Pennsylvania; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

JOYCE C. NUETZEL
ATLANTA - Joyce C. Nuetzel, 63, of County Route 36, passed away Monday (Aug. 14, 2000) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville after a long illness.
Joyce was born Nov. 12, 1936 in Atlanta, a daughter of Earl and Hazel (Johnson) Hagadone. She married Bruce Nuetzel on June 18, 1960 in Wayland, he survives. Joyce was a former secretary at Kodak in Rochester, but she dedicated most of her life to her husband and their family. She enjoyed traveling to craft shows and cooking.
She attended the Atlanta Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Wayland Women's Bowling League.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bruce; three sons, Michael (Orn) Nuetzel of Wichita, Kan., David Nuetzel of Randolph, N.J., and Thomas (Linda) Nuetzel of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Kelly and Corey Nuetzel both of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Elaine (Charles) Fisher of Atlanta and Carol (Eugene) Pareschi of Hamlin; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

PRATTSBURGH - Mary Louise Hoad, 76, of Prattsburgh, died Sunday (Aug. 13, 2000) at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center.
Mrs. Hoad was born Aug. 7, 1924 in Pulteney and was the daughter of Floyd O. and Janie Marie Bonney Magee. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bath and a retired driver with the Prattsburgh Bus Line.
She is survived by two sons, William (Mary) Hoad of Wayland, and Richard (Nancy) Hoad of Prattsburgh; six grandchildren, Steven Hoad, Lisa Johnson, Richard Hoad, Jr., Todd, Jason, and Rhonda Hoad; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Wilson of Bath, Rita (Winston) Slayton of Wallace, and Anita (Alex) Gutow of Prattsburgh; one brother, Robert (Donna) Magee of Savanna; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence Junior Hoad in April of 1978.

MAISIE M. McDANIELS
HORNELL - Maisie M. McDaniels, 80, of 225 Vincent St. died Monday evening (Aug. 14, 2000) at Strong Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Baltimore, Md., she was born Oct. 12, 1919, and was the daughter of Erb and Irene (Slate) Wilhelm. She had resided in the Hornell area for most of her life.
Maisie had been employed in the housekeeping department of Hornell Nursing Home for many years, retiring about 16 years ago. She enjoyed crocheting and devoted her time and love to her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are one daughter, Irene (Michael Reese) Ellington of Hornell; one son, H. John (Aimee) McDaniels of Canisteo; one brother, Alan Wilhelm of Virginia; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

MAUREEN T. PARADA
ARKPORT - Maureen T. Parada, 52, of 7 Holly Court, Arkport, died Thursday afternoon (Aug. 10, 2000) as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Hornell on Oct. 27, 1947, she was the daughter of Eugene and Mary Catherine (McAndrews) Ludden.
Maureen attended Greenwood Central School and graduated from Meadville High School in Meadville, Pa.. She earned her associates degree in dental hygiene at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.
She was employed by the Hornell City School system from 1967-68 as a dental hygienist. Maureen decided to take the next several years off from the "work force" so she could devote more time and energy to her family. She has been employed at the Orthodontist office of Thrifthauser & Salmon since 1975.
Maureen was an active communicant of St. Ann's Church, where she served as a Eucharist minister. She volunteered at St. James Mercy Hospital, supported her husband's activities in the B.P.O.E. (Elks Lodge), ran the concession stand for the Arkport Jr. Baseball League until 1985, and was a member of the Hornell Ladies of Columbus.
She was married on Aug. 12, 1967 to Robert J. Parada, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Michael William Parada of Albany, Robert John Parada, Jr. of Rochester, and Peter Andrew Parada of Los Angeles, Calif.; her parents, Gene and Mary Catherine Ludden of Hornell; three sisters, Anne (Bruce) Prashaw of Syracuse, Mary Kay (James) Rahmlow of Rochester, Margaret "Peggy" (Kenneth) Diehl of Rochester; three brothers, William (Theresa) Ludden of Hornell, Chris (Sylvia) Ludden of Scottsdale, Az., and John (Nancy) Ludden of Austin, TX.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

LUCILLE (DUNN) EDWARDS
HORNELL - Lucille (Dunn) Edwards, 87, formerly of Sawyer Street Site, Hornell, died Saturday (Aug. 12, 2000) at McAuley Manor, where she had resided for the past one and a half years.
Born in Susquehanna, Pa., on April 28, 1913, she was the daughter of Eugene and Anna (Littell) Dunn. She has resided in the Hornell area for the past 68 years.
During WWII, Lucille was employed as a file clerk for the FBI. She later began work as a bookkeeper at the former Woolworth's Store in Hornell, a position that she held for over 40 years, until her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose for over 50 years and was past District Deputy Grand Regent of New York State.
Lucille was married in 1947 to Kenneth Miller who died in 1960. In 1973 she married William Edwards who died in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Spendlove, Marjorie Brown and Barbara Bill; and her brothers, Edwin Dunn and Eugene Dunn.
Surviving are three brothers, Harold (Audrey) Dunn of Adrian, Robert (Joan) Dunn of Hornell, and Lawrence (Margaret) Dunn of Arkport; five sisters, Gen Graham of North Hornell, Beverly (Albert) Coddington of Hornell, Gerry (Robert) Burley of Hornell, Helen Kerr of Vienna, Va., and Joan (Felix) Marucha of Odenton, MD; many nieces and nephews.

DANSVILLE - Emaline W. Stewart, 87, of 236 Main St. passed away Wednesday (Aug. 9, 2000) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Born in South Canisteo, Dec. 27, 1912 a daughter of Collins and Josie Cornish Whittemore, she had spent her early years in Canisteo before moving to the Wellsville area about 1940. She had resided in Dansville since 1988. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW of Wellsville. Emaline was predeceased by her husband Arnold Stewart in 1976; her son James L. Stewart in May of 1988; two sisters Mrs. Annabelle Bebout, and Mrs. Isabelle Bement; and one brother Dee Clark.
Surviving are four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Eleanor Kerr of Visalia, Calif.

RAOUL A. "BUTCH" MASTERSON
HORNELL - Raoul A. "Butch" Masterson, 64, of 51 Fulton St., died unexpectedly Tuesday (Aug. 8, 2000) at his home.
Born in North Hornell, Feb. 25, 1936, he had resided his early life in Hornell, and in Texas for 18 years where he was employed by K-Mart. He returned to Hornell about 14 years ago. At the time of his death, he was employed in janitorial services for ARC. He had served for 8 years in the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are two daughters, Beth A. Klees of Bath and Kim I. Masterson of Texas; one son, Mark A. Masterson of Texas; five sisters, Dolores Suriani of Hornell with whom he made his home, Arlinda Preston of Hornell, Juanita Harrington of Hornell, Barbara Payne of California, and Naomi Myers of Hornell; seven brothers, Ramon Masterson of North Carolina, Donald Masterson of Florida, Dahl Flynn of Hornell, Patrick Moore of Corning, and Ernie Myers, Ricky Myers, and Terry Myers all of Hornell; a loving niece, Brenda Foster of Hornell; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There will be no public calling hours. A private service for the family will be held at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Hornell. Burial will be in the Bath National Cemetery.
FAYE VIOLA FULLER
ANDOVER - Faye V. Fuller, 77, of 33 Grove St., died Monday (Aug. 7, 2000) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.
She was born July 21, 1923 in Hanyville, Pa., daughter of Raymond and Ada Barnhart Button. On July 23, 1960 in Andover she married Richard Fuller, who survives. She attended school in Andover and was known as the "neighborhood gramma," nurturing family and friends in special ways with her cooking, sewing, canning and embroidery.
She was a member of the Andover First United Methodist Church. Surviving besides her husband Richard are two daughters, Joyce (David) Allen of Robertsdale, Ala., and Jane O'dell of Andover; two very special grandchildren, Heather Layne and Garrett Tanner, both of Robertsdale; several cousins and good friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, one sister and son-in-law Eugene O'dell.
Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mulholland-Swan Funeral Home, Inc. in Andover. Funeral services will be held there Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Andover. Memorials may be made to the Andover Volunteer Rescue Squad, Andover Firemen's Auxiliary or American Cancer Society.
MABEL E. CADY
GREENWOOD - Mabel E. Cady, 78, entered into rest at her home on Tuesday (Aug. 8, 2000) following a long illness.
She was born in Angelica on Sept. 28, 1921 to the late Clyde and Daisy Watkins Patrick. On Dec. 15, 1940 in Angelica she married Floyd S. Cady who died on Nov. 11, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Fred, Clifford, John and Robert Patrick and her sisters Lena Schwartz and Mildred Fletcher.
Mabel has lived in Greenwood for over 55 years. She was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church and was an avid seamstress and loved to crochet.
A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her sons, Donald (Onalee) Cady of Cameron and John Cady of Greenwood; her daughters, Linda (Stephen) Williamson and Brenda (Jerel) Woodworth of Greenwood; her sisters, Beatrice Wise of Hornell and Margaret Nolan of Dansville; a special friend, Karen Hooker of Greenwood who helped take care of her; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren , several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the H. P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood.
