ADA E. CORNUE
ARKPORT - Ada E. Cornue, 93, of Hornell-Arkport Rd., died Tuesday (Nov. 28, 2000) at McAuley Manor where she had resided for the past nine months.
Born Dec. 18, 1906 in Oxford, N.Y., the daughter of Irving and Anna Stone McNitt. She was married June 23, 1942 in Hornell, to Clair M. Cornue, who died July 23, 1985.
She was a graduate of Keuka College, Class of 1929 and enjoyed many years in the teaching profession, with positions in Berkshire, Union Springs and taught Latin in Hornell School System for 40 years.
Ada had resided in Arkport for the past 70 years and was a member of the Hornell Fortnightly Club, Mei Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, New York State and Steuben County Retired Teachers Assoc. and Cpl. Josiah Griswold Chapter of DAR.
She enjoyed family genealogy, reading, traveling, family, friends and her home.
Survivors include, her son, John (Tish) Cornue of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; a grandson, Christopher (Lydia) Cornue of Evanston, Ill.; three cousins, Jessie Howell, Roberta Gordon and Nancy Partridge, all of Poughkeepsie; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Robertson Funeral Home, Inc., Hornell, where funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. Carrie Stine officiating. Burial will be in Arkport Cemetery.

NORMA PEARSON WESCOTT
HORNELL / TEXAS - Norma Pearson Wescott, a long-time Hornell resident, died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000) in Plano, Tx., following an extended illness.
Born May 10, 1926 in Hornell, the daughter of Donald and Bernice Root Pearson. She was married for 38 years to Clair Wescott Jr., of Locust Grove, Va.
Norma graduated from Hornell High School in 1944 and SUNY at Fredonia in 1966. She moved to Salamanca in 1953 and was an elementary school teacher from 1966 to 1972. She then moved to Georgia in 1983 and on to Texas in 1993.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Nathan) Miller of LaVergne, Tenn.; two sons, Mitch Wescott of Plano, Tx. and Mark (Shirley) Wescott of Shippensburg, Pa.; a brother, William (Sue) Pearson of Loon Lake and two grandchildren.
A private graveside memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

AGNES (PIFER) HARTER
WAYLAND - Agnes (Pifer) Harter, 70, of State Route 21 North, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 28, 2000) at the Livingston County Skilled Nursing Facility in Geneseo.
Agnes was born Sept. 5, 1930 in the Town of Conesus, a daughter of Charles and Edith (Howard) Pifer. Agnes was the widow of retired Master Sergeant William D. Harter Sr., they were married Dec. 9, 1950 in North Cohocton, he predeceased her on Nov. 13, 1991. During Mr. Harter's military career, the couple moved throughout the western United States with their three daughters, and finally returned to Wayland in 1966. Agnes was a homemaker and an avid crafter, she also enjoyed reading and gardening. She was also predeceased by a son, William D. Harter Jr. in 1957 and two sisters, Dorothy Acker in 1986 and Beatrice Titus in 2000.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol-Lynne Harter, Jacqueline Harter and Debbra Harter all of Wayland; three brothers, Harmon (Sylvia) Pifer Sr. of Springwater, Adrian (Vivian) Pifer of Vista, Calif. and Wesley E. Pifer Sr. of Albion; three sisters, Gertrude Callaro of Mt. Morris, Helen (William) Francis of Atlanta and Alva Francis of Bath; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Wayland.

WILLIAM G. "BILL" CONNORS, SR.
NORTH HORNELL - William G. "Bill" Connors, Sr., 59, of 314 Seneca Rd., North Hornell, died early Monday morning (Jan. 29, 2001) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness.
He will be remembered for his love, devotion and commitment to his children, sister and brothers. Bill's vibrant and "up-beat" personality along with his ever present smile will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him, especially Christine Chapman, the St. James Mercy Hospital Family, Hornell YMCA Family and the United Way.
A native and life resident of Hornell, he was born July 17, 1941, and was the son of George and Ann (Morris) Connors.
Bill graduated from Hornell High School (Class of 1959) and in 1963 graduated from the University of Buffalo earning his BS Degree in Pharmacy. In 1977, he earned his MBA from Xavier University.
Since 1963, he has been employed in various capacities of the medical profession, including: Chief Pharmacist at the former Bethesda Community Hospital (1963-1970), Bethesda Community Hospital Administrative Assistant (1970-1972), Assistant Administrator of St. James Mercy Hospital (1972-1979), Associate Administrator of St. James Mercy Hospital (1979-1986), Vice President of St. James Mercy Hospital (1987-1990), Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of St. James Hospital (1990-1999). Since 1999, he has served as President /CEO of St. James Mercy Health System.
His professional memberships included: American College of Health Care Executives, Society for Healthcare Planning and Marketing, founding member and past chairman of the Joint Education and Training Committee of the Southern Tier Health Management Corporation, of the Planning Committee of Southern Tier Health Management Corporation, chairman of the Rochester Regional Group Purchasing, of the Hospital Association of New York State US Statewide Advisor Committee, of the Hospital Association of New York State Committee on Mental Health Services, Regional Task Force for Mental Health Services, Southern Tier Emergency Medical Services (Board and Executive Committees), Southern Tier Emergency Medical Services Council (Board Member), member and chairperson of Rochester Regional Emergency Medical Services Board, HANYS Committee on Mental Health Services, member and chairperson of the Rochester Regional Hospital Association.
Bill was active in the Hornell and surrounding communities. He served as United Way Campaign Chairman, was a member and past president of the Hornell YMCA Board of Directors, member of the Campfire Board of Directors, member of the Executive Committee of the Corning Classic, member of the Southern Tier Social Ministry Board of Directors, member of St. Ann's Parish Council, member of the Alfred State College Advisory Committee, and a member of the Hornell Drug Abuse Council. He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church where he had served as an usher. In 1992 he was honored as YMCA Man of the Year.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Gerard "Buzz" Connors who died in 1992.
Surviving are his daughter, Brigid Connors with grandson, Carl "CJ" of Syracuse; sons, William Connors, Jr. of Rochester, Gregory (Jeni) Connors of Rochester and Matthew Connors of Hollywood, Calif.; brother, James (Katie) Connors of Hornell; sister, Joan (John) Conti of Lewiston; and his identical twin brother, George (Barbara) Connors of Corning; sister-in-law, Eileen Connors of Hornell; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family of William G. "Bill" Connors will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

KENNETH H. COTTON
HORNELL - Kenneth H. Cotton, 73, of 7291 North Main St. Ext., died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a long illness.
Born Nov. 28, 1927 in the Town of Willing, the son of Dorr and Dorothy Foster Cotton. He was married April 16, 1949 in Hornell, to the former Marilyn Norton, who survives. He was predeceased by his son, Kenneth R. Cotton in 1977 and a brother, Bert C. Cotton, in 1984.
He was a former resident of Almond and had resided the past 51 years in Hornell, where he was a heavy equipment operator for A.L. Blades & Sons for 39 years, retiring in 1989.
A veteran of World War II, Ken served with the U.S. Army in Germany and was a member of Arkport Memorial Post #1248 American Legion.
Ken was an avid bowler, hunter and enjoyed NASCAR.
Survivors besides his wife include; his daughter, Linda (John) Faulkner of Arkport; a sister, Hazel (Clyde) Bracken of Almond; a brother, Joseph (Patricia) Cotton of Watkins Glen; two grandchildren, Shani Lynn Reams and Heidi Campbell; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

ALICE W. KATNER
FLORIDA/AVOCA - Alice W. Katner, 89, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday (Jan. 14, 2001).
She was born July 1, 1911, in Prattsburgh, to John F. and Mabel G. Lewis Williams. In 1927, she married Ralph N. Horton, who died in 1930. She married Harry Katner in 1932 and predeceased her in 1982, and son John W. Horton in 1993. She lived many years in Avoca and moved to Port Charlotte from North Port, Fla. in 1987.
She retired in 1977 as executive secretary with the Steuben County Civil Service, Bath. Mrs. Katner was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Twilight Chapter of New York, Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired Public Employees Association, Dorcas Circle, Avoca Methodist Church, and the First Presbyterian Church of North Port, Fla.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara H. Handy of Chadds Ford, Pa.; a brother, Forrest S. Williams of South Hampton, Pa.; granddaughters, Nancy Henry, Suzanne Buholtz and Mary Ellen O'Neill of Rochester; grandsons, Douglas and Stephen Handy of West Grove, Pa.; great-granddaughters, Katelynn, Amanda, Nicole, and Natalie Handy, all West Grove, Pa., Casey and Amber Buholtz, and great-grandsons, Adam Henry and Sean O'Neill of Rochester.
Previous funeral services were held in Port Charlotte, Fla.
A memorial service will be held Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) at The First Presbyterian Church, 6 Pulteney Square, Bath at 1 p.m. with visitation from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Burial will be held in Wheeler Cemetery, Wheeler, following the memorial service.

GASPORT - Larry Lee Smith, 59, of East Avenue, Gasport, entered into rest Sunday (Jan. 28, 2001) at his home after a brief illness.
He was born July 3, 1941 in Bath, to the late Earl and Pauline (Nee Voltz) Smith. He was married Oct. 8, 1977 in Middleport to Glenna (Nee Donelson). He was a truck driver for Agway Inc., of Knowlesville. He worked for the company for 38 years. He served his country honorably as a member of the US Army from May 11, 1966 until May 10, 1972. He was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed camping, playing horseshoes and working. He loved to bake his children's birthday cakes and make chocolate pancakes.
He lived in Gasport since 1978, previously of Bath.
He was the husband of Glenna (Nee Donelson) Smith; father of Larry (Maureen) Smith Jr. of Buffalo; step-father of William (Phyllis) Teaven of Lockport, Michael (Roxanne) Teaven of Middleport, James (Tami) Teaven of Middleport, Robert (Denise) Teaven of Middleport, Marsha (Frank) Murrell of Gasport and Patricia Teaven Banker (Kenneth) of Lockport; brother of Harland (Edna) Smith of Bath, Gerald (Rita) Smith of Middleport, Shirley (Lorraine) Smith of Arkport and Thurlow (Bonnie) Smith of Hornell; brother-in-law of Noretta Smith of Hornell and Rosela Smith of Hornell; also survived by 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

WILSON "BILL" RITTENHOUSE
DALTON - Wilson "Bill" Rittenhouse, 75, died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell.
He was born Oct. 21, 1925 in the Town of Mount Morris to Lloyd and Mabel McMaster - Rittenhouse.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp in WWII. He is a retired school teacher from Letchworth Central School.
He is predeceased by his son, Del Rittenhouse. Surviving are his wife Elizabeth "Jackie" of Dalton; a daughter, Rebecca (Wayne) Anglin of Durham, N.C.; a son, Richard Rittenhouse of Hunt; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Rittenhouse of Pavilion; grandchildren, Christy, Karyn, Lucy and Nathan; numerous nieces and nephews.

ELMA O. DAVIS
AVOCA - Elma O. Davis, 91, formerly of 5 Morgan St., died Monday afternoon (Jan. 29, 2001) at the Taylor Health Center in Bath following a long illness.
Born in the Town of Wheeler on June 28, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Grace Bellinger Olmsted.
In Cohocton in 1931 she was married to Leo Davis, who predeceased her on Dec. 9, 1986.
A life-long resident of the Avoca area, Elma, along with her husband Leo, owned and operated the Davis Hardware Store in Wallace for 47 years.
Elma attended the Avoca United Methodist Church, and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and her flowers.
Her family includes her son, Glenn L. (Linda) Davis of Avoca; her grandchildren, Michael (Shirley Lynn) Davis of Thurston, Vickie (Tri) Phenix of Fort Worth, Tx., Tammy (Chad) Conrad of Rochester; her 10 great-grandchildren; her nieces, nephews and cousins, also her sisters-in-law, Norma Davis of Hornell and Betty Davis of Port Charlotte, Fla.
Elma's sister, Hazel Chrisler, died early Tuesday morning (Jan. 30, 2001) at Three Rivers Health Care Center in Painted Post.
Calling hours for Elma are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Bond-Davis & Bishop Funeral Home in Avoca. A funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Avoca United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rene Carrillo officiating. Burial in Highland Cemetery in Avoca will be in the spring.

WAYLAND - Sally M. Quinlan, 55, of 6775 Meade Hill Road, Wayland, died Jan. 28, 2001.
Sally was born June 9, 1945, in Utica, the daughter of Edmond and Ruth Davison Hornbeck, residing her early life in Hamburg, N.Y.
She married Thomas Quinlan Aug. 27, 1966, in Athol Springs, N.Y. They resided in Dansville until 1969, when they moved to Wayland.
Sally was a program director of Chances and Changes, and was a social worker for Livingston County.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Wayland.
Predeceased by her parents, Edmond and Ruth Hornbeck, Sally is survived by her husband, Thomas Quinlan of Wayland; one son, John Quinlan of Wayland; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer (Eric) Worden of Dansville; one brother, Peter (Ann) Hornbeck of Olmsteadville; her father-in-law, James (Peggy) Quinlan of Caledonia; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Paige Quinlan of Wayland and Thomas James Worden of Dansville; one niece, Leigh Hornbeck of Boston; several sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

WAYLAND - Jeffrey M. Quinlan, 31, of 27 N. Main St., Wayland, died Jan. 28, 2001.
Jeff was born Jan. 6, 1970, in Rochester, the son of Thomas and Sally Hornbeck Quinlan. He was a life resident of Wayland and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
Jeff attended St. Joseph's School, Wayland Central School and Monroe Community College.
Jeff served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Persian Gulf Desert Storm Conflict. He was a member of the Wayland American Legion, Post 407, and the Springwater Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by his father, Thomas Quinlan of Wayland; one brother, John Quinlan of Wayland, one sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer (Eric) Worden of Dansville; his grandparents, James (Peggy) Quinlan of Caledonia; one niece, Elizabeth Paige Quinlan; one nephew, Thomas James Worden; special friends, Cherri, Paige and Ryan Hurlburt; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

RICHARD R. BIEK
DANSVILLE - Richard R. "Dick" Biek, 86, of Hessler Court died Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) at Noyes Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home.
He was born Feb. 13, 1914 in Dansville, the son of the late Valentine and Josephine (Rauber) Biek. Dick was married June 9, 1942 to Margaret (Jones) Biek who he has been married to for 58 years.
He had been employed as a welder for Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation where he had retired from in July of 1977 after 43 years of employment. Dick was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, the I.A.M. Local #1665, where he had served as financial secretary for several years, an avid bowler who bowled in the Monday Night "A" League where he had served as secretary for several years. He was a western square dancer and sports fan, along with enjoying gardening. He was a former member of the Union Hose Company #1.
Besides his wife Margaret, Dick is survived by four sons; Doug (Ann) Biek of Stuart, Fl., Tom (Rita) Biek of Las Vegas, NV, Bob (Diane) Biek of Farmington, NY, Jim (Joice Kelley) Biek of Dansville; two daughters; Martha (Paul Robinson) Kenney of Perkinsville, and Barb (Howard) Brockway of Dansville; a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Louise Jones of Dansville; nine Grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

PHYLLIS AUDREY BILL
WAYLAND - Phyllis Audrey Bill, 73, of State Rt. 63, passed away Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, after a short illness.
Phyllis was born March 22, 1927 in Bath, a daughter of Leo and Mildred (Montanye) Wixom. She was a graduate of the North Cohocton-Atlanta High School in 1944. She attended Buffalo State Teachers College and Rochester Business Institute. As a young woman she worked in the buyers office at Sibleys in Rochester.
She is survived by her husband, Donald K. Bill. The two were married on April 29, 1949 in Atlanta. She was a homemaker and mother of two daughters. Phyllis loved to write, cook, sew and work in her garden. She loved animals, especially dogs and cats, but most of all, she loved her family.
Phyllis was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church where she was very active in the United Methodist Women's Group and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Home Bureau and a past Wayland Girl Scout Leader. She was an avid historian, pianist and artist.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Donald; two daughters, Sally (Craig) Smith of Houston, TX and Nancy (Wayne) McIntyre of Perkinsville; four grandchildren, Heather and Justin Smith and Lynne and Lee McIntyre; one sister, Shirley (Roy) Gibson of Wayland; one brother, Leo Wixom Jr. of West Unity, OH; one brother-in-law, Malcolm Bill of Penfield; sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Elma Mills of Webster; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

VIVIAN C. OSMIN
HORNELL - Vivian C. Osmin, 66, of 6409 Co. Rt. 29, Edgeview Estates, died Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell.
She was born in Hornell, Oct. 6, 1934, a daughter of Charles and Wilhelmine Drake Button. She was a graduate of Jasper Central School, class of 1952. She was a lifelong Hornell area resident, and member and deacon of the United Presbyterian Church of Hornell.
For nearly 20 years, Vivian had been employed as office manager for Dr. A. Byron Collins of Hornell, prior to her retirement in 1988. On June 28, 1952, she married Lee Osmin who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband Lee are two daughters; Kathy (Victor) Vareski of North Adams, Mass.; Vickie (David) Burns of Haskinsville, one son; Charles (Lelani) Osmin of Quincy, Fl.; two sisters, Christine Slakie of New Jersey and Charlene (Don) Gates of Jasper; two brothers, Charles "Larry" (Joanne) Button of Jasper and Gary (June) Button of Jasper; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Mark Wade officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.

REVA SPENCER SHERIDAN
WESTLAKE, OHIO - Reva S. Sheridan, 93, formerly of 18 Adsit Place died Sunday (January 21, 2001) at Rae Ann Suburban Nursing Home in Westlake, Ohio.
She was born on January 2, 1908 in Genesee, Pennsylvania. She resided in Hornell for fifty years, prior to moving to Rocky River, Ohio.
She was the owner of Spencer's Stationary and Print Shop for 32 years, retiring in October 1977. She was a member of Park United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Burdick Class. She was also a charter member of the Court of Amaranth, Evening Star, and Emmaus Shrine, all in Hornell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Sheridan; her granddaughter, Karen Benson; her parents, her sister; and five brothers.
Surviving are three daughters, Marilyn (Edwin) Murphy of Rocky River, Ohio, Carole West of Tallahassee, Fla., and Barbara Young of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren, Linda Benson Rechenbach, Kim Miller Pidermann, and Taylor Young all of Florida, Mark Miller of Indiana, Rebecca Benson Grano of Ohio, seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Kacirek Funeral Home in North Olmsted, Ohio on Friday with internment on Saturday at Genesee Cemetery, Genesee, Pennsylvania.
MAX WILKINS
HORNELL - Well-known retired Hornell businessman and automobile dealer Max Wilkins, 84, of 50 Willow Place, died early Saturday morning (Jan. 27, 2001) at Hornell Gardens where he had been a patient for about the past four months.
He owned and operated and also served as President and Treasurer of Wilkins Service, Inc. in Hornell, having sold 10,000 vehicles before his retirement in 1991.
Born in Bath on Oct. 23, 1916, he was a son of the late Platt and Manda Williams Wilkins.
A graduate of Naples High School, Max had resided in Hornell for most of his life.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hornell, the Hornellsville Masonic Lodge No. 44, F & AM, the Hornell Rotary Club, a charter member of the Chemung Valley Region Antique Car Club, the Fingerlakes Chapter of the Buick Club and the Buick Club of America.
Max along with his wife Donna, purchased and refurbished the old DL & W Railroad Station in Atlanta.
His family includes his wife of 60 years, the former Donna Landers, who he married in Cohocton on May 13, 1940; his son, Terry Wilkins and Linda of Cohocton; his three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Simon) Teale of New Jersey, John (Tracey) Wilkins of Connecticut and Douglas (Sue) Wilkins of Cohocton; his brother, L.D. (Phyllis) Wilkins of Columbus, Ohio; his one niece and one nephew; his sister-in-law, Beatrice Wheaton of Hornell; also his loving and devoted friends, Shelly and Glenn Thomas of North Hornell.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop and Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell.
A funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Hornell with the Rev. Terry Kelly officiating.
Interment
will be in the Arkport Cemetery.
