MINNIE J. THOMPSON
ARKPORT -- Minnie J. Thompson, 69, of 9201 Strobel Rd., Arkport, died Thursday morning (May 30, 2002) at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a long illness.
Born in Rome, Pa., on May 25, 1933, she was the daughter of Isaac and Kathryn (Clark) Thompson. She had resided in the Arkport area since 1973.
Minnie had been employed as a Bus Driver in Danbury, Conn. for about two years and later drove bus for the Rochester Regional Transit Service. Minnie was one of the first people hired to drive the Hornell Area Transit Bus, a position which she held for nearly four years. She was a member of the Arkport First Presbyterian Church.
Minnie was a loving mother and grandmother and was a devoted friend to everyone that had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Burnham who died in 1998.
She is survived by three sons, Paul Keller of Rochester, James Fitzgerald of Rochester ad Michael (Robyn) Fitzgerald of Rochester; two daughters, Sharon (Mark) Westoff of Searcy, Ark. and Karen Fitzgerald of Arkport; one sister, Carol Sargent of Fla.; one brother, William Hyland of Arkport; several step-children, including Sheryl Struble Camp of Rochester; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, including Thomas Clark of Rochester.
There will be no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Arkport, with Rev. William Allan officiating.
Minnie's family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Arkport, Main Street, Arkport, N.Y. 14807.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell.

PAULINE J. PALMER
WAYLAND -- Pauline J. Palmer, 80, of 10259 State Route 21 South, Wayland, passed away Saturday (May 25, 2002) at the Bath Veterans Medical Center, Bath, after a short illness.
Pauline was born April 23, 1922 in Caribou, Maine, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Prue LaBell. Residing her early life in Caribou, she resided in Buffalo for 40 years prior to moving to Wayland in 1988.
She was retired from the Trico Co. of Buffalo after 40 years of employment.
A WWII Army veteran she was very active in the Cheektowaga American Legion and the Moose Club.
She is predeceased by two sisters, Mabel Stephens of Northport, Fla. and Doris Dube of Wayland; two brothers, Joseph LaBell of Wayland and Edward (Jack) LaBell of Sparta; and one sister-in-law, Fernard LaBell of Wayland.
Pauline is survived by three sisters, Mary Belanger of Wayland, Catherine (Eva) Hanson of Wayland and Mena Brewster of Caribou, Maine; one brother, Wilson LaBell of Wayland; one sister-in-law, Iris LaBell of Wayland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday (June 9, 2002) at 1 p.m. at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.

MEREL EDWARD CASE
ANGELICA -- Merel Edward Case, 98, of 139 Olean St., died Wednesday (May 29, 2002).
Born Nov. 14, 1903 in Bradford Township, McKean County, Pa., he was the son of Margaret Stevenson and Howard Case. He was married to the former Laudice Luckey who predeceased him in 1972 and to Avis Luckey who died in 1986.
Mr. Case worked at the Allegany County Home from 1925 until he went to work at Angelica Central School as Head Custodian from 1948-1969. Merel grew up with steam and was instrumental in starting and maintaining the steam and engine display at the Allegany County Fair. He served on the Angelica village board for 12 years with one year as mayor. He was a director on the Allegany County Fair Board for 46 consecutive years retiring in 2001.
He is survived by one son, Donald (Ida) Case of Angelica; four grandchildren, Don (Connie) Case of Belmont, Valerie (Andrew) Daciw of Angelica, Barry (Cathy) Case of Hamlin and Mike (Del) Case of Scio; a daughter-in-law, Neva Hunt of Angelica; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Ellsessor of Angelica; two step-children, Charlene (Art) Shearing of Gainesville and Bill Henry of Michigan; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Emmett Rose of Angelica.
Merel was predeceased by two sons, Robert and Edward, as well as by five brothers, Walter, Milton, Lewis, Howard and Allen and two sisters, Iven Case and Jane Hall.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, Angelica. Funeral services will follow on Sunday at 5 p.m., with Ron Reichman officiating. Burial will be in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica.
Memorials may be made to the Angelica Volunteer Ambulance Fund.

THOMAS KENNETH EMERSON
ALFRED/LAKELAND, Fla. -- Thomas Kenneth Emerson, age 85, formerly of Alfred and Waterloo, died unexpectedly at his home in Lakeland, Fla.
He was born Dec. 17, 1916 in Hornell, the son of Thomas and Agnes Whitford Emerson. He was married Aug. 31, 1941 to the former Charlotte M. Ferry, who died in 1985. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Ann McLaughlin.
He resided his early years in Alfred and was a graduate of former Alfred High School.
A long time employee of Agway, Inc., he retired as Manager of the Geneva Agway, Inc., in 1980 with over 40 years of service. He moved to Geneva in 1969 and had resided in Waterloo and Lakeland, Fla. since his retirement.
He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity for many years and was a past Secretary of the Batavia Kiwanis Club. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and more recently, a golfer.
He is survived by one daughter, Jean Humiston of Arlington, Texas; a granddaughter, Patricia Mae Humiston of Arlington, Texas and several cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, at the Robertson Funeral Home, Inc., Hornell, where funeral services will be held immediately following at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Terry Kelly, officiating. Burial will be Saturday in the Alfred Rural Cemetery, Alfred.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 136 1/2 E. Second St., Corning, N.Y. 14830.

HAROLD E. RUGUR
HORNELL -- Harold E. Rugur, 69, of 46 Ravine St., passed away Tuesday (May 28, 2002) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
He was born in Elmira Heights July 9, 1932, a son of Frank and Saddie Carmon Rugur. He had served in the United States Navy from 1951-1954, and was a member of the Canisteo American Legion, Hornell VFW and the Hornell Assoc. Harold had worked for the Conrail Railroad as a Brakeman and retired in 1990.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Beam of Kanona and Karen Rugur of Hornell; one son, James (Colleen) Rugur of Hornell; one sister, Betty Wartemberg of Buffalo; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at the Bath National Cemetery.
Those wishing to remember Harold are asked to consider a contribution to the charity of the donor's choice.

MYRA E. ERSFELD
COHOCTON -- Myra E. (Smith) (Dunn) Ersfeld, was born and died according to God's plan. Myra entered into her fifth day (Cursillo) May 28, 2002. She completed her third day in 1982. She spent her fourth day trying to do good for others. She was among the first to join the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Joseph's Church in Wayland. She also belonged to the Nocturnal Society and did the floral arrangements for 19 years. She will also be remembered for her part in bringing the sports complex to Cohocton. They needed a large loan to get it started in order to get a state grant. Not only did she make the loan but also did the landscaping and for the first three years kept the large flowerbeds weeded.
Her absence will also be felt in Humboldt, Tenn., where in 1982, she started a gift shop in a small Catholic Church with her gifts of craft items. It became known as the "Friendship Crafts Giftshop." Myra especially enjoyed painting in oils, water and pastels.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter, her parents, two sisters and two husbands.
She leaves behind one sister, one brother, four uncles, three aunts, many nieces, nephews and cousins, also, some good neighbors and very loyal friends.
Having spent her last years in constant pain, "Rejoice" in her being "Free at Last."
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at St. Pius V. Catholic Church in Cohocton. She will be laid to rest next to her first love Jack Dunn at St. Michael's Cemetery, Penn Yan. He has waited a long time for her.
No memorials necessary just be there for another lonely shut-in.

ELEANOR F. GOODRICH (CAHILL)
DANSVILLE -- Eleanor F. Goodrich (Cahill), age 93, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday (May 26, 2002) in Dansville.
She was born on Jan. 8, 1909 in Elmira, the daughter of John and Minnie Cahill. She is predeceased by her husband Harold M. Goodrich. Eleanor was a communicant member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dansville and was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and also a member of the Gardeners Club of Dansville.
She is survived by her son, William J. (Nancy) Goodrich of Wayland and a daughter, Ann (William) Teachout of Dansville; grandchildren, Mark Goodrich of Rochester, Brian (Dr. Marie Santos) Teachout of Dansville, Marcy Ann (Dan) Babcock of Warner Robins, Ga., Amanda (Scott) Mehlenbacher and Jill (Dr. Dario) Lecusay both of New Jersey, and Josh Goodrich of Jersey City; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas and Megan Babcock, Noelle, Dario III, and Terese Lecusay and Emily Babcock; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dansville.

SANDRA K. STAPLES
GREECE -- Sandra K. Staples, age 59, of 162 Hoover Drive, Greece, died Saturday (May 25, 2002) at the Latta Road Nursing Home, Rochester.
She was born March 25, 1943 in Wellsboro, Pa., the daughter of Robert and Marilynn Woodcock Staples. She retired after working for over 27 years for Eastman Kodak in Rochester. She graduated from Cowanesque Valley High School in 1961. She graduated with a degree in accounting from the Rochester Business Institute. She was an avid doll collector and she enjoyed photography and knitting.
She is survived by her parents; cousins, Tim (Melody) LaChiusa of Hornell and P. William and Connie Plummer of Westfield, Pa.; aunts, Roy (Madaline) Gilbert of Westfield, Pa., Edward (Pauline) Lyons of Elmira and Ella Staples of Westfield, Pa.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Sabinsville Cemetery, Sabinsville, Pa.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to your local chapter of the American Cancer Society in Sandra's memory.

JOHN S. PATTI
HORNELL -- John S. Patti, 80, of 118 Hill St., died early Friday morning (May 24, 2002) at St. James Mercy Hospital, after a long illness.
Born in Buffalo on April 3, 1922, he was a son of the late Anthony and Nicolena Gervasi Patti. On Oct. 25, 1941, he was married in St. Ann's Church in Hornell to the former Mary Manita Mike, who predeceased him in 1970.
A former resident of Buffalo, where he was employed by Bethlehem Steel, John had resided in Hornell since 1960.
He owned and operated several service stations in Hornell and retired in the early 1980s from the New York State Department of Transportation.
John served with the U.S. Army and will be remembered for his stories and love of the horse races. He was recognized by the American Red Cross as a faithful donor of a rare blood type.
His family includes his children, Marie Patti of Hornell, Anthony (Ann Marie) Patti of Arkport, Lisa (Dave) Solinas of Woodhull and Lorraine (Keith) Pfaff of Hornell; his eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his sister, Grace (Tony) Alaimo of Brooklyn; his partner of 19 years, Elaine Baker of Hornell; her children, Bonnie Byrd, Walter Baker, Jr. and Ronald Baker, all of Marion, N.C., and her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Besides his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Patti, in 1942; his sister, Josephine Curcio; and his three brothers, Joseph, Nicholas and Anthony Patti.
Calling hours were from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service was held following calling hours at 5 p.m. Saturday, Deacon Robert McCormick officiated. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.

ESTHER L. WOOD
DALTON -- Esther L. Wood, 62, died May 24, 2002.
She was born Dec. 4, 1939, in Hinsdale, to Otis and Bertha Main.
She was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church and the Nunda Ambulance Corps.
She is surivived by her husband of 41 years, Warren C. Wood of Dalton; three sons, Joe (Peggy) Wood of Nunda, Charles (Clara) Wood of Fillmore and Brian Wood of Dalton; grandchildren Cristina and Ryan; three great-grandsons, Brody, Chase and Hunter; three sisters, Laurie Crandall, Ruby Claypool and Bertie Evanosky, all of Angelica; a brother, Hank Fuller of Richburg; brothers- and sisters-in law Sam (Marian) Monteleone of Perry and Barbara Wood of Rochester; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Friends may call at the Mann Funeral Home in Nunda from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Dalton United Methodist Church, the Rev. Wilson Jones officiating. Burial will be in Hunt Hollow Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Nunda Ambulance or the Nunda Fire Department.

VIRGINIA R. MASON
DANSVILLE -- Virginia R. Mason, age 84, of Leonard St., in Dansville, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon (May 23, 2002), at the Vincent House in Wayland following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Canandaigua on Oct. 17, 1917, a daughter of the late Albert and Lillie Jager Rutter. On Aug. 12, 1939, she was married to Kenneth B. Mason who predeceased her on Sept. 9, 1997.
Virginia was a long time member and elder at the Dansville Presbyterian Church and a member of the Opportunity Circle at the Kings Daughters and Sons Home of Dansville. She enjoyed crocheting on her back porch at home.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Bess of Olean and Cynthia Shaver of Dansville; a sister, Doris Johnston of Chesire; and several nieces and nephews.
There will no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Dansville Presbyterian Church, 3 School St. Following cremation her cremains will be buried next to Ken's in Whitehaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville.

FLOYD L. WOODARD
DANSVILLE -- Floyd L. Woodard, 63, passed away Friday (May 24, 2002) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Floyd was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Norfolk, N.Y., the son of Charles Woodard and Viola (Adams) McGee.
He is survived by three daughters, Chastity, Jan and Patricia; a son, Floyd Jr.; his mother, Viola McGee; five grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence, Art and Merle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the Chamberlain-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Dansville.

RAYMOND G. WELLS
WELLSVILLE -- Raymond G. Wells, 79, of 4192A Bolivar Road, died Friday (May 24, 2002) at the Wellsville Manor Care Center.
He was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Canisteo, the son of John H. and Emily M. Smith Wells.
He was a graduate of Canisteo High School in 1941 and Rochester Business Institute in 1942. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in Europe in the 743rd Tank Battalion.
Survivors include four daughters, Donna Dempsey of Hobesound, Fla., Diane (Roy) Armstrong of Wellsville, Debbie Monahan of Wellsville, and Patty Graves of Wellsville; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Wells.
Friends may call at J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville, from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, following the calling hour, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery.

VIRGINIA R. CORNELL
ARCADIA, Fla. -- Virginia R. Cornell, 74, formerly of Andover, died in her home on Nov. 4, 2001, after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Olean, the daughter of Alfred and Doris Osgood Sweet.
On May 31, 1944, she was married to Alvin Cornell, who survives her.
She had resided in Arcadia for the past 12 years.
While a resident of Andover, she had been employed at the Citizens Bank in Alfred for 11 years and until her retirement was a dispatcher for the L.C. Whitford Construction Co. in Wellsville after 15 years of service.
She was a former member of the Wellsville Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary and also enjoyed camping, music and snowmobiling.
Surviving besides her husband Alvin are: a daughter, Norilyn (Donald) Patrick of Belmont; two sons, Carl (Thelma) Cornell of Wellsville and Gene (Joan) Cornell of Glen St. Mary, Fla.; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, the Rev. James Sweet of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and a sister, Okla. Sweet of Harrisburg, Pa.
She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Dale and Gary Sweet.
Friends may call at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville on June 1 from 1-3 p.m., which time memorial services will be held. The Rev. James Sweet, her brother and interim pastor of the Port Charlotte, Fla., Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville.

BETSY O'HERN FENTI
HORNELL -- Betsy O'Hern Fenti, 42, of 41 Bennett St., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening (May 22, 2002) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Hornell on April 25, 1960, she was a daughter of the late W. Raymond and Mary Boughner O'Hern.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Betsy was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1976.
She was employed for the past five years for the Hornell City School District as a Substitute Caller.
Betsy attended St. Ann's Church, was a member of the Carducci Lodge and the Hornell Association. Always giving of herself, she served as a volunteer for various organizations including the Hornell Area Council for the Disabled and the July 4th Celebration Committee and assisted with the Hornell Area Computer Klub (H.A.C.K.).
An avid Yankees fan, Betsy loved social gatherings with her friends, and enjoyed reading, writing poetry, playing cards, bingo and on-line computer games.
Her family includes her husband, Frank Fenti, who she married in St. Ignatius Loyola Church on July 1, 1990; her brother, Michael (Judy) O'Hern of Hornell; her sister, Heather "Teddi" O'Hern of Hornell; her nephew, Patrick O'Hern and niece, Mary O'Hern; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Sue Fenti of Hornell; also her aunts, uncles and cousins.
Besides her parents, Betsy was predeceased by her brother, Robert O'Hern.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday and 12-2 p.m. on Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 2 p.m. on Sunday, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.

GARLAND E. SCHOLES
HORNELL -- Garland E. Scholes, 76, of 14 Conklin St., passed away Friday (Oct. 11, 2002) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Hornell, July 5, 1926, a son of Gordon and Florence Meyers Scholes, he had been a lifelong Hornell resident. He had been employed as a salesman for Millbrook Bread out of Elmira.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, a life member of the Hornell and Arkport Post of the American Legion, life member of the Hornell Moose Lodge, the Hornell VFW and the Hornell Association.
On March 13, 1948, he married the former Barbara Brown who preceded him on March 7, 1991.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Wilton and Edward Scholes and two sisters, Virgil Lockwood and Gloria Burbridge.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Thompson of Mt. Morris and Marsha Scholes (Ken Grimm) of Hornell; one son, Robert Scholes (Pat Clark) of Hornell; one sister, Carolyn (Donald) Buchinger of Canisteo; a cousin, Marilyn Montgomery of Hornell; four grandchildren, Michael Thompson, Karri Thompson, Kirk Scholes and Kirsten Scholes; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, where a Moose memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.

RUTH A. DEATS
CANISTEO -- Ruth A. Deats, 90, formerly of State Route #248, Canisteo, entered into rest at the Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville Friday evening (Oct. 11, 2002).
She was born in the town of West Union on Sept. 23, 1912, a daughter of Ariel D. and Bertha Mae Edwards Doty. On Sept. 23, 1932, she married Glenn Edward Deats, who died on Jan. 25, 1977. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carol and Herman Doty; and a sister, Leah Nesbit.
Following her marriage to Glenn Deats, they lived in Canisteo until 1940 when they moved to Kenmore, where she worked in Belle Aircraft and Spaulding Fibre Co. They returned to Canisteo in retirement in 1972.
Ruth was a member of the Canisteo Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and had attended the First Presbyterian Church in Canisteo.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene (Renato) Vellutino of Mt. Kisco; her grandson, Gian Carlo Vellutino; her brother, Homer Doty of Belmont; her three sisters, Lena Fuller of Angelica, Bertha Mae Brown and Shirley Canniato, both of Wellsville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Todd Haines officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.

ESTHER BELLE CAMPBELL
BOLIVAR -- Esther Belle Campbell, 86, of 351 Main St., died Friday (Oct. 11, 2002) in the Wellsville Manor Care Center after a brief illness.
Born July 19, 1916 in the Town of Clarksville, she was a daughter of John and Mattie (German) Hamilton.
On March 6, 1937 in Olean, she was married to Mott I. Campbell, who died April 21, 1996.
She had resided in Allentown for 60 years prior to moving to Bolivar. She attended the Wolf Run District School in Cuba. She was a child care provider for several families while in Allentown.
She was a 50-year member of the Allentown United Methodist Church prior to joining the Bolivar United Methodist Church, a member of the 4 C's Senior Citizen's Club, and was also a long time Rebekah Lodge member.
She will be remembered as an avid gardener.
She is survived by a daughter, Josephine "Judy" (Williams) Gans of Midland, Texas; two granddaughters, Christine Gans of State College, Pa. and Kathleen Gans of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a sister, Cecile V. O'Connor of Bolivar; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen Hamilton, Alice Dwight and Doris Winterhalter; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Ida Farrell and Lida Sherman; and by a brother, Marvin Hamilton.
Friends may call today from 7-9 p.m. at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Larry Smith of the Bolivar United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.

JOANNA I. CRUSER
COHOCTON -- Joanna I. Cruser, 69, passed away Thursday (Oct. 10, 2002) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Joanna was born Dec. 15, 1932 in Wayland, a daughter of Wiley C. and Carrie (Lander) Mehlenbacher. She married Rudolph Cruser on Feb. 2, 1952 in Canaseraga, who survives. She enjoyed cooking and baking, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by two sons, Wiley Cruser in 1986 and Wayne Cruser in 1995.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Rudy; two grandchildren, Wiley Cruser II of Texas and Julia Paige of Austin, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Davia Paige of Austin, Texas; two nieces and several cousins.
There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland, are handling the arrangements.
Contributions may be made to the Memorial Sloan-Kittering Cancer Center, NY, NY 10021 in memory of Joanna I. Cruser.

RAYMOND L. MULLEN
CANISTEO -- Raymond L. Mullen, 91, of 4221 St. Rte. 248 Bennetts Creek Rd., died late Friday night (Oct. 11, 2002) at his home.
Born Aug. 7, 1911 in Hartsville, he was a son of Herman and Mary (Stephens) Mullen. He had resided nearly all his life in the Town of Canisteo. He had been a self-employed dairy farmer, owning and operating the Raymond Mullen & Sons Farm on Bennetts Creek Rd. Raymond had attended the Bennetts Creek Bible Church.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marian Mullen, on Feb. 4, 1993; a sister, Mary Dennis; and four brothers, John, Daniel, Glenn and Thomas Mullen.
Surviving are his daughter, Betty (Tom) O'Rourke of Erwin; four sons, Dale Mullen of Hornell, Richard (Linda) Mullen of Rexville, Gary (Pat) Mullen of Canisteo and Keith (Karen) Mullen of Canisteo; 13 grandchildren; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will be present from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday to receive friends at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo, where funeral services will follow calling hours at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Bennetts Creek Cemetery.
