FRANCIS J. GOSS
WAYLAND -- Francis J. Goss, 80, passed away on Sunday (June 1, 2003) at Livingston County Campus in Mr. Morris, after a short illness.
Fran was born on April 9, 1923, in Hornell, a son of Alfred and Florence (Staub) Goss. He married Geraldine (Davis) Goss on July 6, 1946, who survives. Fran worked for 20 years at the Wayland Central School as the maintenance engineer. After retiring from the school he owned and operated his own welding fabrication shop from his home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gerry Goss; a daughter, Teresa Goss of Geneva; a son, Wayne (Jackie) Canute-Goss of Livonia; two nieces; a nephew; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ira (Sylvia) Davis of Holland Patent.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Village Cemetery in Wayland.

MARY K. SLADE
ANDOVER -- Mary K. Slade, 75, passed away Tuesday (June 3, 2003) at the Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville, following a long illness.
Mary was born in Mt. Jewett, Pa., on July 12, 1927, to John W. and Mary C. (Hurst) Cannon. She graduated from Andover Central School in 1944 and Alfred University in 1948.
Mary worked for 40 years as a social worker for the government, retiring in 1987 from the Cattaraugus County Blind Association in Olean.
On July 24, 1951, she married Raymond P. "Sam" Slade, who predeceased her on March 22.
Mary is survived by two sons, Daniel (Judith) Slade of Blasdell and their children, Patrick, Kevin and Kathleen; and Timothy J. (Brenda) Slade of Belmont and their children, Joseph, Christina and Timothy G.; a daughter, Ann Slade of Andover; and three sisters-in-law, Marian Cannon, Helene Cannon and Elizabeth Young.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Jim and John Cannon; and a sister, Josephine Cannon.
Mary was an avid reader, classic movie enthusiast and adored cats, but above all else, she was a devoted wife who lived her children and grandchildren dearly.
She was a past president of both the Andover Central School Board and Allegany County Chapter of the Mental Health Association, and served on the Board of Directors of the Western New York Heart Association.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Andover. A funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dennis G. Wolf officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover.
The family has requested memorials to be made to the Andover Rescue Squad, Andover Free Library, Jones Memorial Hospital or the American Heart Association.
DONALD F. EDWARDS JR.
CANASERAGA -- Donald F. Edwards Jr., 44, died Tuesday (June 3, 2003).
He was born June 9, 1958, in Lackawanna, to Donald and Maureen (Lynch) Edwards Sr. He served in the United States Marines.
Donald was predeceased by his father.
Survivors include his mother, Maureen Edwards of Buffalo; his wife, Kathleen Edwards of Canaseraga; his daughter, Stephanie; his sons, Zachary and Nicholas; his sister, Michelle (Vinnie) Cooley of Colden; two brothers, Kevin Edwards of Buffalo and Rick (Dawn) Edwards of Buffalo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mann Funeral Home in Canaseraga. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Valley Wesleyan Church in Canaseraga, with Pastor Herb Shaffer officiating. Burial will be in Canaseraga Cemetery.

MARTHA E. VanDERHOOF
DANSVILLE -- Martha E. VanDerhoof, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday (May 31, 2003) to join her heavenly family and friends. Martha had been a resident of Hornell Gardens Nursing Home since 1995.
Martha was born Feb. 4, 1909, in Cohocton, one of eight children by Jesse Laverne Edmond and Bertha Adele (Thorpe) Edmond. As a little girl, Martha loved helping her father in his Rexall corner Drugstore in Cohocton. As did her father, Martha graduated in 1928 from Albany College of Pharmacy. In 1930, Martha married Dr. Thomas W. VanDerhoof, Optometrist of Dansville and formerly of Watkins Glen. In 1952, she began working at Milligan's Rexall Drugstore, Dansville, where she retired in 1967. Many people remember Martha for her wise and kind assistance from the Pharmacy.
Her seven siblings, Mildred Jane Clark, Marjorie Adele Shults, Marian Adelaide Edmond, Jesse Calvin Edmond, Evelyn Mae Fuller, Robert Lewis Edmond and Dewitt Lee Edmond predeceased her.
Martha and Thomas remained close to their family and their many friends, raising three children of their own. They were members of St. Peter's Guild and the Vestry respectively, and the Mr. & Mrs. Club of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Dansville. Martha was a member of the Corporal Josiah Griswold Chapter of the D.A.R. (Arkport), the Cohocton Historical Society and the Children's Protective Association of Livingston County. An excellent cook, Martha enjoyed creating dinner parties to the delight of family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed their many trips to Canada and Maine.
Tom predeceased Martha in 1979, and she is survived by her three children, Thomas Edmond (Angela) VanDerhoof, Gretchen Kay (Donald) Slate and Jon Walter (Jacqueline) VanDerhoof; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 21 nieces and nephews; many grand and great-grand nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Dansville. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery, Cohocton.

MARGARET A. SCHRADER
EAST SPRINGWATER -- Margaret A. Schrader, 66, formerly of Walworth, died Sunday (June 1, 2003).
She was predeceased by her brother, Harold Schaefer.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Walter Schrader; sons, Walter F. Schrader, Donald (Ann) Schrader, Raymond (Sara) Schrader, Frank R. Schrader; daughter-in-law, Becky Schrader; grandchildren, Amanda, Morgan, Michael, Stephen, Kyle, Jacob, Joseph, Amber; sisters, Joyce Smith, Phyliss Turner, Francis Everett; nephews, Mark, Dale, Brad, Jeff, Raymond, John; niece, Darlene.
Services were held on Thursday, June 5, in Macedon, with burial in Walworth Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Payne & Murphy Funeral Home, 1040 Route 31, Macedon.
Donations may be made to Livingston Co. Hospice or American Cancer Society in her memory.
GERALDINE R. COWLEY
DANSVILLE/BATAVIA -- Geraldine R. Cowley, 90, formerly of the Meter Road in Dansville, passed away Wednesday afternoon (June 4, 2003) at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia.
She was born in Dansville on Aug. 11, 1912, a daughter of the late Leon W. and Barbara Freas Fluno. She was the widow of Stephen J. Cowley, who predeceased her on April 25, 1988.
Geraldine was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Dansville.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Bliemeister of Batavia and Sharon Flickner of Arkport; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Dansville. Interment
will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville.
Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville.

LeROY P. FISHER
DALTON -- LeRoy P. Fisher, 61, died Wednesday (June 4, 2003).
He was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Paul and Edna Buchholz Fisher.
He was predeceased by his parents and step-father, William Gelser.
Survivors include four brothers, Donald (Thara) Fisher of Dalton, Walt (Jennifer) Fisher of Tuscarora, Robert (Betty) Fisher of Conesus and Keith (Barb) Gelser of Dalton; four sisters, Joan Sullivan of Tuscarora, Wilma Willey of Nunda, Judy (Steve) James of Dalton and Donna (Mark) Pike of Dalton; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mann Funeral Home in Nunda. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. David Peck officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Hill Cemetery, Town of Portage.

ELAINE M. HOOPER
KANONA -- Elaine M. Hooper, 82, of the Avoca Back Road, entered into rest Tuesday (June 3, 2003) at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.
Elaine was born July 13, 1920, in Buffalo, the only child of Cecil and Hazel Marsh Elliott. On Nov. 3, 1941, she married Donald Hooper in Buffalo, who survives.
She was a graduate of Layfayette High School and the Children's Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo; and was a Charter member of the Genesee Community College of 1968.
Elaine was a registered nurse and social worker for 15 years, working out of the Bath Veteran's Administration, Bath. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to chat with family and friends on the Internet when she wasn't spoiling her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Donald, to whom she was married for 62 years, she is survived by two sons, Gary (Patricia) Hooper of Canisteo and Daryl Hooper of Seneca Falls; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, David and Laura Hooper, all of Canisteo.
There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

FRED V. SCHNURLE
OCALA, Fla./CANISTEO -- On Sunday (May 18, 2003) the angels came and took Fred V. Schnurle, 86, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Canisteo, to be with his Lord. He was at home and at peace.
Fred was born on Jan. 7, 1917, a son of Frederick Vincent and Catherine Schnurle. He was a graduate of the Canisteo Academy and attended the University of Buffalo Medical School. On Aug. 17, 1941, Fred married Virginia "Ginny" A. Shea, with whom he lived in Canisteo for 42 years. After her death, he married Nancy J. Tighe, with whom he lived in Ocala, Fla., for nearly 20 years.
He served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1945 aboard the USS Otter. Returning to Canisteo, he managed the Schnurle Agency, Inc., formally Schnurle and Son, for over 40 years which included membership in numerous professional organizations. He also managed the former Riedman Agency in Hornell. He was a founding partner of the former Home Builder's Supply Co. in Canisteo.
He shared his love of family with his passion for the well-being of the community. His accomplishments are a testament to his commitment. He co-founded the Canisteo Little League, not only for his son, but for all the children of the village to play ball. As Little League Treasurer for many years, his legacy was that the children never lacked for whatever was necessary to have fun, and learn a good set of values. His service in the fire department went beyond being just a volunteer. He helped found and was president of what is now the Canisteo Fire Department, and was a member for many years. He also served as a Village of Canisteo Fire Commissioner, was on the board of the Steuben County Fireman's Association and the NY-Penn Fireman's Association.
He was a longtime member and past president of the Canisteo Rotary Club; and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was past commander of Canisteo American Legion Post 846; a member of the Woodlawn Cemetery Association of Canisteo, the Canisteo Chamber of Commerce, Steuben County Republican Committee and Canisteo Rod and Gun Club and a director on the board of the New York State American Lung Association.
Fred's life in Florida took him on other new journeys. He spent countless hours helping those in his church that needed objectivity, honesty, common sense and wisdom. He fished and spent time with family he'd not spent time with in many years.
Throughout his life he loved traveling, boating, fishing and photography.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, George, Harold and Leslie Schnurle; and his sisters, Althea Schnurle and Gladys Jamison.
His beloved family survivors include his wife, Nancy Tighe Schnurle of Ocala, Fla.; daughter, Beverly (Larry) Taylor of Ocala, Fla. ; son, Greg (Cathy) Schnurle of Canisteo; beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey Taylor of the USAF, Grand Forks, N.D.; Chandra (Dave) Hodge of Shakopee, Minn., and Monica Schnurle of Geneseo.
His extended family includes Maureen Tighe and Michael King of Clifton Park, Sherrie Tighe of Newark, Marne Darrow of Rochester, Art Darrow of Elizabethtown; several nieces and nephews including John Schnurle; three great-grandchildren, the most recently born on May 21 to granddaughter, Chandra Taylor-Hodge.
He will always be loved, never forgotten and forever missed.
There will be a service of celebration of Fred's life at the Canisteo American Legion Post 846, 61 West Main St., Canisteo, at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21. A reception will immediately follow. Committal will be at the family's convenience at Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Fred's name to the Canisteo Little League, Inc., c/o Richard Canne, President, 35 East Main St., Canisteo, N.Y. 14823; or a local youth organization of your choice. Foster our youth for a brighter tomorrow.

MARIAN E. PARKER
HORNELL -- Marian E. Parker, 97, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at Hornell Gardens, where she had resided for the past four and a half years.
Born June 16, 1905 in Genesee Valley Park, she was the daughter of Leon and Maude (Moran) Parker.
Before moving to Hornell in 1980, Marian lived in Troy and Caledonia, and in Mt. Holly, N.J., where she was a weaver and furniture upholsterer for Alexander Plush. Besides her work, she had a great love for animals.
She was predeceased by a twin sister, Elizabeth.
She is survived by her friends, David and Mary Kilgore.
There will be no prior calling hours.
Rev. David M. Kilgore will officiate at a graveside service to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Macedon Center Cemetery in Macedon
