MARY E. HARRINGTON
TROUPSBURG - Mary E. Harrington, 72, of 936 State Route 36, Troupsburg, passed away Saturday afternoon (July 26, 2003) at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Corning January 31, 1931 was the daughter of Seth and Elizabeth Jones Burton.
She was a 1948 graduate of Addison High School, a member of the Troupsburg Methodist Church, President of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Troupsburg Grange.
She married Ronald D. Harrington on April 9, 1950 and they operated a dairy farm in the town of Troupsburg until their retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald, two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald L. and Donna Harrington of Troupsburg and Paul B. and Virginia Harrington of Hornell.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, Kate Ross, Ryan Harrington, Cheryl Talbot and Aaron Harrington. Her brother, Robert Burton, of Wellsville and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased in death by her brother, Richard Burton.
Friends may call Monday, July 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the H.P. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1607 Main Street,Woodhull.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Troupsburg United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Mark Wade, assisted by the Rev. Natalya Cherry will officiate.
Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Troupsburg.

BETTY J. WATSON
CAMERON - Betty J. Watson, 74, of County Route 119, entered into rest Saturday (July 26, 2003) at her home.
Betty was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Bath, the daughter of Lavina Cole Goodwin. She married Beldon L. Watson Jr., who predeceased her in August 1995. She was predeceased by a son, Beldon "Bud" J. Watson III, in 1971; a sister, Dorothy Goodwin; and a brother, Kenneth Goodwin.
She had resided in Cameron for over 50 years and had worked at Westinghouse in Bath, and also the Bath VA. She was a member of the Cameron Fire Department Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Theodore (Karlee) Watson of Lyndhurst, N.J., Kenneth Watson of Cameron; a daughter, Tammy Galligan of Warsaw; three grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Doris Hallett of Canisteo and Margaret Goodwin of Bath.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Nondaga Cemetery in Bath.

MARY LOUISE O'HARGAN
GREENWOOD - Mary Louise O'Hargan, 93, of State Route 417, entered into rest Saturday (July 26, 2003) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Louise was born Dec. 10, 1909, in the Town of West Union, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude Moran O'Hargan.
She had lived most of her life in Rexville and recently had resided at the Hornell Gardens for a short time. She was a graduate of the former Canisteo Academy, the Genesee Normal School; and had taught at the rural school district in Rexville. She had worked in the post office in Rexville, and later in the general store Grumley & McAndrew in Rexville.
Survivors include one brother, William O'Hargan of Greenwood; one nephew, William (Vicki) O'Hargan of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two great-nephews, William J. and Ryan O'Hargan and two great-nieces, Allison and Catherine O'Hargan, all of Ft. Wayne, Ind.
At Louise's request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Rexville.
JAMES J. "BUD" VANDERHOFF
HORNELL - James J. "Bud" Vanderhoff, 80, of 2999 Satin Leaf Court, Port St. Lucie, Fla., died Saturday morning (July 26, 2003) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, following a brief illness.
Born in Patterson, N.J., on Aug. 15, 1922, he was the son of Harry and Helen (Kelly) Vanderhoff. Bud was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1941), where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He was a four year letterman in baseball and was selected as a member of the All-County Baseball Team in 1940 and 1941. He was a three year letterman in basketball and was captain of the 1941 team which won the county title. He was also selected as a member of the All-County Second Basketball Team in 1941. He played semi-pro basketball and also played in The Evening Tribune's Baseball League, and eventually had several tryouts with pro baseball teams.
Bud was involved in athletics at many other levels during his lifetime. He was instrumental in promoting the Catholic Youth Organization for baseball and basketball, and was instrumental in the formation of the Hornell Little League. He worked on various projects for the Hornell YMCA and had been involved with the Town, County and City of Hornell Sportsman's League. He was a charter member of the Basketball Officials of Steuben County. In 1998, he was honored by being inducted into the Hornell High School Hall of Fame.
Bud served his country during World War II as a member of the US Coast Guard. He had been employed at the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad and the New York State Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1990.
He was an active member of the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge and the Hornell Association. Bud was an avid Dodger fan who enjoyed traveling to different cities to see Major League games.
Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith (Hoffman) Vanderhoff; his brother, Harry J. Vanderhoff Jr.; and his step-daughter, Mary White.
He was married on Sept. 30, 1978, to the former Dorothy Schumacher-White, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Richard (Joan) Vanderhoff of Pasadena, Calif., James J. Vanderhoff of Los Angeles, Calif., and John R. Vanderhoff of Turlock, Calif.; his step-children, Lynn (John) Gruszka of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Kristin (Steven) Hoefling of Cardiff, Calif., Kate (Kevin) Fontenot of Parkland, Fla., and Ralph White of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two step-grandchildren, Corey and Waylon Gruszka of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
The family of James J. "Bud" Vanderhoff will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

ERNEST ADOLP WESCHE
WELLSVILLE - Ernest Adolph Wesche, 83, of 4525 Donovan Rd., died Monday (July 28, 2003) in his home, after a long illness.
He was born March 5, 1920, in the Town of Allen, the son of William and Emma Hull Wesche.
On June 5, 1943, in Dunkirk, he was married to Eleanor Sprague, and they recently celebrated their 60th year anniversary.
He was employed at Air Pre Heater in Wellsville for 18 years and retired from the Turbodyne Corp in Wellsville, after 17 1/2 years as a welder and electrician.
He was baptized in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the Town of Allen on April 4, 1920, and later joined the Trinity Lutheran Church and its Mens Club in Wellsville.
He had resided on the Donovan Road for the past 58 years, where he and his wife restored a home and raised their family.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Donna (Wayne) Gloff of Castile and Laurie (James) Mickle of Wellsville; four sons, Thomas (Arlene) Wesche of Wellsville, Lanny (Cheryl) Wesche of Wellsville, William (Nichole) Wesche of Wellsville and Denny (Tina) Wesche of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence (Rosemary) Wesche of Angelica; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Edith Marriott; and brothers, George, Lewis and Richard Wesche.
Visitation will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at which time services will be held, Rev. Larry Holt officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville.
Memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, or a charity of the donor's choice.

ELIZABETH FLEISCHMAN OUTHOUSE
CANANDAIGUA - Elizabeth Fleischman Outhouse, 85, died Monday (July 28, 2003) at Elm Manor Nursing Home.
Betty was born in Gorham on Oct. 11, 1917, the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Mensch) Johnson. She graduated from Canandaigua Academy, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canandaigua.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Harlan) Olsen of Geneva and Frances (David) Hovey of Rochester; her son-in-law, Gregory Perry of Fairport; her step-daughter, Brenda (Richard) Brazell of Arvada, Colo.; step-sons, Maurice Mathews of West Fairview, Pa., Gary (Beverly) Mathews of Bath and Frank Mathews of Scio; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Marion (Farr) Milne of Hobe Sound, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Herman Fleischman; second husband, Clifford Outhouse; daughter, Jean Perry; and son, Ford Fleischman.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Avoca.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Canandaigua; the Canandaigua Emergency Squad; or to the Avoca Methodist Church Sunday School program.

RONALD G. HARPER
ARKPORT - Ronald G. Harper, 59, of 1189 Willey Rd., died Saturday (July 26, 2003) at his home.
Born in Rochester, Jan. 11, 1944, the son of Nelson and Ruth Bailey Harper, he had resided in Springwater before moving to the Town of Dansville about five years ago. He was a member of Hillside Baptist Church of Hornell. He served in the US Navy from 1963 until 1965, and had been a self-employed carpenter for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Fox Harper; three daughters, Robin White of Williamsville, Renee Harper of Copake and Tina Harper at home; two sons, Ronald Harper Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Richard (Lisa) Harper of Claverack; one sister, Pat (John) VanKouwenberg of Florida; two brothers, Ralph (Janice) Harper of Fairport and Richard (Judy) Harper of California; two grandchildren, Travis and Matthew Harper.
There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hillside Baptist Church, Webbs Crossing Road, with Rev. Dathan Corbett officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Springwater.

CORNING - Irene B. Zimmers, 82, of Corning, died Sunday (July 27, 2003) at Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls.
She is survived by a son, John C. (Deb) Zimmers, Ovid; daughter, Beverly (Gordie) Phenes, Canisteo; brothers, Al (Sharon) Rzepka, Summit, Ill., and Ed Rzepka, Darien, Ill.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
There are no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Watkins Glen.

DANIEL J. MARTIN
DANSVILLE - Daniel J. Martin, 66, of Ossian Street, passed away early Tuesday morning (July 29, 2003) at McAuley Manor in Hornell, where he had resided for the past week.
He was born in Dansville on May 13, 1937, a son of the late James A. and Ita Reagan Martin. On Sept. 26, 1959, he married JoAnn Morf, who survives.
Dan retired as a crane operator from Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville in 1996, after 25 years of service. He was a member of the IAM and the Foster Wheeler 25 Year Club. A communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dansville, he had served as a director of the Livingston County Council on Alcoholism, and was a former member of the Dansville Moose Club and The Fearless Hook and Ladder Co. of the Dansville Fire Department. Dan's dedication to public service is demonstrated by having assisted on more than 1,500 calls with the Dansville Ambulance Corps. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping with his family.
Surviving in addition to JoAnn, his wife of 43 years, is a daughter, Dawn Martin of Fairport; a son, David Martin Sr. and fianc/, Dawn Buchanan of Dansville; two grandchildren, David Jr. and Desiree; two brothers, James (Peggy) Martin of Rochester and John Martin of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Kathleen (Larry) Wager, also of Fort Collins, Colo.; several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Dan lived one day at a time serving his friends. He spent much of his time helping others find peace, serenity and courage. His time and commitment helped countless others and he will be sadly missed.

SPRINGWATER - Lynne R. Keenan, 65, passed away suddenly on Tuesday (July 29, 2003) at her home.
Lynne was born on Jan. 18, 1938, in Buffalo. She married Edward Keenan on July 19, 1997, who survives. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dansville. She retired from Groveland Correctional Facility as a secretary.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Keenan of Springwater; four daughters, Linda Reilly of Hammondsport, Kelly Morgan of Greece, Stacey (Bruce) Cowgill of Exton, Pa., and Melissa (Walter) Colley of Penfield; two step-children, Patricia Peters of Rochester and Raymond Keenan of Rochester; six grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

DANSVILLE - Hazel C. Kline, 92, passed away Friday (Aug. 1, 2003) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
She was born Dec. 20, 1910 in Scottsburg, a daughter of Richard and Nellie Carney.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Kline, and a son, Richard Carney.
She retired from Rochester Telephone Co., where she was a member of Pioneers Organization with the phone company.
She is survived by a son, Terry Kline of Vermont; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a graveside service Monday at 10 a.m. in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Springwater. There will also be a memorial service held Monday at the King's Daughters Home in Dansville at 11 a.m.

JOHN T. O'ROURKE
CANISTEO - John T. O'Rourke, 60, of 4 Race St., passed away Friday (Aug. 1, 2003) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Hornell, Jan. 29, 1943, the son of Michael "Mickey" and Hazel (Kranz) O'Rourke, he had resided all of his life in this area. He was a graduate of the Hornell High School and had been employed by the former SKF Industries and Morrison Knudsen, both in Hornell. He had worked in the bakery department at the former Richtymers Store, as well as the former Ponce D' Leon Restaurant, Alfred University and Pfeil's. John will be remembered for his love of photography.
He was a member of the South Hornell Fire Dept., had photographed fire scenes for the department, had done volunteer work for the Hornell Red Cross, and had been active in community service. He was awarded the Community Citizens Award by the Canisteo Grange in 1996.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, William O'Rourke.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Graham) O'Rourke of Canisteo, whom he married in 1965; three daughters, Colleen (Timothy) Remchuk of Hornell, Cattina O'Rourke of Canisteo, and Robin O'Rourke of Hornell; two sons, Patrick (Kimberly) O'Rourke of Canisteo and Scott O'Rourke of Canisteo; one sister, Kathy (Tony) Aini of Hornell; one brother, Richard (Amoret) O'Rourke of South Carolina; and four granddaughters, Shelby, Kaitlyn, Nicole and Paige.
The family will be present to receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.

MARY ELEANOR THOMANN
WAYLAND - Mary Eleanor Thomann, 85, formerly of Wayland, died Saturday (May 17, 2003) at North Shore Nursing Home, Loveland, Colo.
She was born June 29, 1917, in Wayland, to Gilbert Glines Kester and Lillian Amelia Stutzmann Kester.
She graduated in 1933 from Webster Central School in Webster.
She married John A. Thomann on Nov. 6, 1937, in Palmyra.
She worked for Corning Glass in Rochester as a technical rep and saleswoman for 15 years, retiring in 1975. She moved to Loveland, Colo., in 1975, to Dunlap, Tenn., in 1991, and back to Loveland, Colo., in 1996.
She was a member of Loveland First Christian Church and belonged to Loveland Women's Club.
She was a lifetime member of Eastern Star and volunteered for Sali's Kitchen, VOA, disaster work projects and Habitat for Humanity. She knitted mittens for Head Start children for many years. She wrote human interest features for the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle in the late 1950s. She enjoyed music, reading, sewing, traveling, knitting and her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Cherie Keeler and husband, Kenneth Dale, of Loveland, Colo.; and Mary Suzanne Halcomb of Port Orange, Fla.; brother, Henry L. Kester of Boulder, Colo.; sister, Dorothy Bowen of Fort Worth, Texas; brother-in-law, James (Mary) Thomann of Webster; brother-in-law, Don Wallace of Rochester; sister-in-law, Helen Kester of Grand Island; grandson, Kenneth Daniel Keeler of Loveland, Colo.; granddaughters, Dawn (Robert) Todd of Frederick, Colo., Robin Eva (Vaughn) Baxter of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Mary Kristina Halcomb of Port Orange, Fla.; great-granddaughters, Holly Hander, Ashley Hander, Jordan Olsen and Orenda Halvorsen, of Frederick, Colo.; Kelly (Michael) Tsou of Longmont, Colo.; Candiss Baxter and Carlee Baxter of Daytona Beach, Fla.; great-great-granddaughter, Mckayla Tsou of Longmont, Colo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her husband, John Thomann, her parents, and one brother preceded her in death.
Cremation was conducted with internment in the Wayland Cemetery.
The Rev. O.W. Wharton will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Wayland United Methodist Church.

DUANE G. YOUNG
DALTON - Duane G. Young, 53, died Friday (Aug. 1, 2003).
He was born March 18, 1950, in Cuba, to Frank and Evelyn Grimes Young.
Duane was a graduate of Bradford High School and a Little League coach in Nunda. He enjoyed gardening, wood crafts, golf, hunting and fishing.
He was predeceased by his father, Frank.
Survivors include his mother, E. June Young of Allegany; his wife, Deborah of Dalton; two sons, Michael and Steven of Dalton; three grandchildren, Brandon, M. Tyler and Tanya; brother, Douglas (Ellen) Young of Allegany; three sisters, Laraine (Sam) Wray of Hunt, Evelyn (Skip) Kramer of Smethport, Pa., and Pamela Young of Wellsville; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

DANSVILLE/ANDERSON, S.C. - Isabelle Totten, 85, formerly of Dansville, died on Tuesday (July 29, 2003) in Anderson, S.C.
Isabelle was born on Feb. 4, 1918, in Dansville, a daughter of Joe and Betsy Potter. She was predeceased by two husbands, Celon Babcock and Warren Totten.
She is survived by her children, James Babcock of Memphis, Tenn., William Babcock of West Sparta, Kenneth Babcock of Greensboro, N.C., Patricia Hall of Anderson, S.C., and Sandra Adams of Dansville; a sister, Stella Patterson of Mt. Morris; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be no prior calling. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville.

WOODHULL - Beatrice A. Ingersoll, 70, of 3632 County Route 110, Cameron Mills, passed away Sunday (Aug. 3, 2003) at home, after a long illness.
Born in Dryden, March 9, 1933, she was the daughter of Sherman B. and Gertrude M. Cady Herrington.
A 1951 graduate of Addison Central School, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Addison, Chemung Valley Antique Car Club, and was a member of the former Cameron Mills Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
Beatrice married Elwyn A. Ingersoll, Sept. 7, 1952, he survives.
Also surviving are sons, Edward (Lorraine) Ingersoll of Akin, S.C., Jeffrey (Nora) Ingersoll of Savona, Brian Ingersoll and Shawn Ingersoll of Addison; her brother, Donald Herrington of Bath; her sisters, Beverly (Rudolph) Hauptman of Painted Post, Barbara (Raymond) Morseman of Bath, Sharon Eddy of Prattsburgh and Ina (Elwin) Cramer of Elmira. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

MARGARET P. SNYDER
PRATTSBURGH - Margaret P. Snyder, 79, of 21 Pratt St., Prattsburgh, died Monday evening (Aug. 4, 2003) at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Margaret was born in Corning on Jan. 16, 1924, and was the daughter of Angelo and Agnes Cerquoczi Picarazzi. She was a graduate of Corning Free Academy and the valedictorian of the class of 1941; and a graduate of Cornell University in 1945. She taught foreign languages and world history at Prattsburgh Central School for 32 years. She was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association, St. Patrick's Catholic Church; and taught religious education for many years. Margaret was a beloved mother and grandmother, an avid reader, gardener and enjoyed traveling.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll "Muff" Snyder on Feb. 3, 1999.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Beth (Michael) Curry of Syracuse and Judith (Keith) Schuck of Prattsburgh; three grandchildren, Christopher (Heidi) Curry, Katherine Curry and Matthew Schuck; her sister, Loretta Sorge of Corning; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Bottoni-Wood Funeral Home, 4 Mechanic St., Prattsburgh, on Thursday from 12-2 p.m. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Phillip Billotte as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

WAYLAND - Robert J. "Bob" Schubmehl, 78, of 316 Fremont St., Wayland, passed away Tuesday morning (Aug. 5, 2003) at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
ROLAND X. "MARTY" MARTIN
BATH - Roland X. "Marty" Martin, 67, has been joined with the angels, after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003).
He was born on Oct. 20, 1935, in Cyr Plantation, Maine, as the 15th out of 17 children. He moved in the late 1950s to New York, where he met and married Anna Mae Kowalcyk on Oct. 4, 1958, who predeceased him in Feb. 2000 after 41 years of marriage. They both lived and raised their children in Avoca for most of their marriage and then moved to their home on Boos Road in Cohocton.
Roland was also predeceased by his parents, Denis (Sophie Soucy) Martin; his brothers, Guy (Gertie) Martin, Addis (Estelle) Martin, Perley Martin, Edrick (Phyllis) Martin, Noel Martin; and sisters, Rose (Newell) Glode, Loretta Martin and Gladys (Stanley) Kowalcyk.
Roland was lucky enough to find love twice in his life, and on July 25, 2003, he married Sheila Derby of Savannah, three years to the date after they met, at their home in Cohocton.
Roland is survived by his wife, Sheila Bowen Martin; five children, Mary E. Martin and her daughter, Amber Snyder, of Bath; Carol (R. Eric) Eaton and their children, Adam, Brandon, Shawn and Shannon, of Avoca; Beverly (Robert) Schumacher and their children, Travis and Alec, of Avoca; a niece, Karla K. Kowalcyk of Sacramento, Calif., and a nephew, Kevin (Bonnie) Kowalcyk and their son, Nicholas, of Avoca, who he and Anna Mae raised after the untimely death of their parents, Stanley Kowalcyk Jr. and Gladys (Martin) Kowalcyk; two stepchildren, Edward (Suellen) Derby of Cato and Candi (Roger) Rode and their children, Valerie, Charlene, Thomas and Laura, of Argyle; his brothers, Frederick (Louise) Martin and Richard (Gail) Martin, both of Bath; his six sisters, Jeannette (Carl) Robbins and Lillian St. Pierre (Fred Snyder) of Bath, Lorraine (Nelson) Martin of Van Burren, Maine, Anita (Anthony) Yorski of Bradford, Rita (Clifford) Murphy of Caribou, Maine, and Germaine (Bernard) Allard of Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a truck broker for over 30 years and opened Marty's Truck Brokerage in 1993 until his retirement in Nov. 1999. During Roland's years in the truck brokerage business, he met many people up and down the Eastern Shore and formed lifelong friendships with many of them.
Roland proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War, and was one of the most patriotic men you could meet. He was a member of the Cohocton American Legion and a former member of the Avoca Volunteer Hose Company.
Roland liked to play the guitar and sing, he always had a smile and a song. He enjoyed farming and plowing snow up on "Martin's Knob" which was his home. The one thing that gave him much joy was watching and cheering his grandchildren on in whatever sport they were participating in at the time. Baseball was what he loved to follow with each of his grandchildren the most, and his first date with his wife, Sheila, was at one of these games.
Friends may call at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with a wake service at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Bath, with Rev. Pius Pathmarijah as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca, with full military honors.

MARY M. (PRIOR) CARTELLA
HORNELL - Mary M. (Prior) Cartella, 73, a resident of Hornell Gardens, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Hornell on Jan. 21, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Anna Walsh and Grover C. Prior.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Mary was employed by several local businesses.
She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and spending time with her family and friends. She had recently been attending the United Methodist Church in Hornell.
Her family includes her son, Dana Prior of Gaithersburg, Md.; three sisters, Marguerite Nicholson of Hornell, Virginia Nicholson of Williamson and May Prior of Buffalo; her brother, Francis (Sara) Prior of Hornell; also her loving nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Campbell; and her two brothers, William Prior and Grover Prior.
Calling hours are from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 7 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Beth Kottemann officiating. Interment
will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Hornell.

CYNTHIA S. "SUSIE" GREGORIUS
CANASERAGA - Cynthia S. "Susie" Gregorius, 72, died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003).
She was born June 16, 1931, in Perry, to Frank and Georgia Price Gregorius.
Cynthia was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Eugene; and sisters, Molly and Georgia.
She is survived by four sisters, Pat Maker of Canaseraga, Mary Duthoy of Canaseraga, Anna (Fay) Schneider of Livonia, and Frances (Tom) Hoffman of Canaseraga; her brother, David (Christine) Gregorius of Dansville; numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Canaseraga, Father John Cullen officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Canaseraga.
Arrangements are through the Mann Funeral Home in Canaseraga.
KATHRYN JEANNE HUBER
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - K. Jeanne Huber, 76, died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003) in San Antonio, Texas, where she had moved in April from Allegany to be near her family.
She was born in Almond on Oct. 26, 1926, the daughter of Lewis and Stella (Hathaway) Huber. One of four daughters, Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gertrude (Percy) McIntosh, Mildred (Harold) Bates, and Vivian (Terry) Gifford. She leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jeanne lived in Almond and graduated from Alfred-Almond Central School, class of 1945. She attended Buffalo State College for two years and graduated from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute, with a degree in secretCourier science. All of her adult life, Jeanne worked as a secretary of administrative assistant, beginning at National Gypsum in Buffalo, for many years at Air Preheater Corporation in Wellsville, and ending when she retired in 1992 as secretary to the president of St. Bonaventure University in Allegany.
During her final four months of life, Jeanne was lovingly surrounded by her family; niece, Anne McIntosh (Don) Hardy-Holley; great-niece, Amy Kathryn Greene and her son, Joshua; great-nephew, David (April) Hardy-Holley; and great niece and nephew, Chelsea and Jacob Greene. She is also survived by great-niece, Linda Greene of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nephew, Arthur L. McIntosh of Texas.
Jeanne was the greatest aunt one could wish for, and she will be missed. She is also survived by great-niece, Linda Greene of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nephew, Arthur L. McIntosh of Texas.
Jeanne's body was cremated and her remains will be interred in Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond.
If desired, donations can be made in Jeanne's memory to the Almond Union of Churches, 11 Main St., Almond, N.Y. 14804, for the current restoration of the parsonage, formerly the Gertrude and Percy McIntosh family home, where Jeanne lived from the time she was 12 until graduation from high school.
HOWARD A. SAHRLE
DANSVILLE - Howard A. Sahrle, 90, passed away Tuesday evening (Aug. 5, 2003) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
He was born in Wayland on June 27, 1913, a son of the late Frederick and Sadie Hawk Sahrle. On Sept. 11, 1952, he was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Sutton, who survives.
Howard owned and operated is farm on the Dansville-Wayland Hill for over 59 years. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ of Perkinsville, the Dansville Grange, and a former member of the Deborah Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Howard was the chaplain for the Phoenix Lodge #115 of the F&AM of Dansville for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Betty, are three daughters, Beth (Tom) Kankoski of Rochester, Michelle (Jim) Dermody of Churchville, and Phyllis (Lewis) Stewart of Victor; two sons, Frederick (Jean) Sahrle of Wayland, and Richard (Marilyn) Banker of Springhill, Fla.; a brother, Albert (Jan) Hawk of Dansville; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Perkinsville. Interment
will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Perkinsville.
