HELEN V. OVERTON
HORNELL - Helen V. Overton, 74, of 18 Sawyer St., went to be with our Lord Monday (Sept. 22, 2003) in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, following a long illness.
Born April 30, 1929, in Canisteo, she was the daughter of Harold and Beatrice Scott. She was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Schroeder and Eleanor LaShura.
She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, continuing her education in beautician school. Her love of cooking gave her 35 years with the Texas Hot Café in Hornell before opening H.O.'s diner that she operated from 1983-1991. Besides cooking, she enjoyed flowers, and loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen (Walter) Mix; three sons, Dan (Ella) Overton, Larry D. (Jan) Egger, Ted (Susan) Egger, all of Hornell; one sister, Esther Bailey, Florida; and one brother, Kenneth Scott, Castile; 13 grandchildren, Ed and Eric Smith, Elaine McCumiskey, Jennifer and Joseph Mix, Amy Quattrini, Kristen and Ryan Egger, Sarah, Ted Jr., Brian and Eric Egger, and Julie Stewart; one great-granddaughter and seven great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Robertson Funeral Home, Inc., Hornell, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, with Father James P. Jaeger officiating. Burial will be in Arkport Cemetery, Arkport.

DAVID J. MAUTH
COHOCTON/SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. - David J. Mauth, 61, of 25 Cherry Blossom Lane, South Windsor, Conn., passed away Saturday (Sept. 20, 2003) at the Hartford Hospital in Connecticut.
David was born May 24, 1942, in Cohocton, the son of Joseph and Rose (Larrin) Mauth. He resided his early years in and around the Cohocton area and then moved to Connecticut. David resided for the past 24 years in South Windsor, Conn. He enjoyed over 35 years as a clerk for the United States Postal Service, before retiring Sept. 1, 2003. Prior to his years of service for the U.S. Postal Service, David served his country in the United States Army. Subsequent to his move to Connecticut, David served in the Connecticut Army National Guard. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan.
David was predeceased by both of his parents.
David is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Michael) Cox of South Windsor, Conn.; two grandchildren, Griffin and Grayden Cox; his brother, John (Linda) Mauth of South Windsor, Conn.; his uncle, Lee Roberts of Cohocton; his two aunts, Norma Larrin of St. Louis, Mo., and Dorothy Mauth of Franklin, Tenn.; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
David's family received friends from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Samsel and Carmon Funeral Home in South Windsor, Conn., followed by his funeral service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
A local funeral service will be conducted for David at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. Joseph's (Old) Cemetery in Wayland.
David's funeral arrangements have been completed by the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.

GWENDOLYN ST. JOHN
BATAVIA - Gwendolyn St. John, 85, of Batavia, a retired employee of GTE Sylvania, died Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2003) at the United Memorial Medical Center.
Gwendolyn was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Prattsburgh, the daughter of the late Clarence and Leina Beverly Edwards.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Batavia for over 50 years, the Leah Circle and Ingraham Class of the church. Along with her husband, the late Roderick St. John, they owned and operated St. John's Produce Stand on Ellicott Street for over 35 years.
She was the sister of the late Llewelyn, Floyd and Clarence Edwards, and Frances Lyke.
Surviving are daughter, Pauline (Raymond) Oxcensis of Batavia; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Anna Edwards of Avoca; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia. (Please use Ross Street entrance during the construction). Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Lewiston Road, Batavia. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery.

SISTER M. VIRGINIA SWEENEY
Sister Mary Virginia Sweeney, RSM, 83, a Sister of Mercy of the Americas from the Regional Community of Rochester, died on Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at home at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse in Brighton.
Born to Elizabeth Sweeney on May 19, 1920, in Rochester, she was a member of St. John's Parish, Spencerport. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1938. Sister Virginia received a nursing certificate from St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, in 1944. She was certified as an R.N. in the State of New York.
Sister Virginia entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1939 and professed her perpetual vows on Aug. 25, 1945.
From 1941-46, 1947-48, and again from 1958-64, she was a nurse at St. James Mercy Hospital. From 1946-47, she served as the school nurse at Our Lady of Mercy High School. Sister Mary Virginia taught a numerous diocesan schools including: St. Mary, Corning (1948-53); Holy Cross, Rochester (1953-54); St. Charles, Rochester (1954-58); St. Mary, Rochester (1964-65); St. James, Rochester (1965-67 and 1969-74); St. Andrew, Rochester (1967-69 and 1981-83); and St. Thomas, Rochester (1974-81). From 1983-84, she worked in the library of Our Lady of Mercy High School. Sister Virginia worked as a clerical assistant for the regional community from 1984 until her retirement in 1995. Since 1995, she had served in the spiritual apostolate.
Sister Virginia is survived by her sister, Mary Burke; brother-in-law, Richard Burke; brother, Robert Sweeney; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Sweeney; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and the Sisters of Mercy.
A wake was held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 3-7 p.m. at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse, immediately followed by a Vigil Service. A funeral mass was held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Mercy Motherhouse Chapel. Father Robert Bradler presided. A graveside service was held following the funeral mass. Interment
was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester.

CHARLES A. EASTERBROOKS
HORNELL - Charles A. Easterbrooks, 72, of County Route 66, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2003) in St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Wellsville, Nov. 21, 1930, the son of George and Elva Eymer Brown, he was raised in Bishopville and had resided in Hornell the past 50 years. He was a graduate of Arkport Central School, class of 1949. He was employed as a welder for the former Foster Wheeler Corporation in Dansville, retiring as a foreman in 1984, after 34 years of service.
Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping; and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a communicant of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Hornell; member and past president of the Alfred Rod & Gun Club.
On Sept. 12, 1952, he married the former Ruth Lyke, and together they celebrated their 50th anniversary just two weeks ago.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Ruth of Hornell, are one daughter, Mary Ann (Jeff) Robinson of Wayland; one son, George (Cindy) Easterbrooks of Hornell; three sisters, Sandra (Earl) Flint of Hornell, Suzanne (George) Norton of Arcade, Charlotte (Barry) Campbell of Canisteo; one brother, Bill (Connie) Brown of Palmyra; three granddaughters, Megan and Kelsie Easterbrooks of Keuka Park, and Maranda Gordon of Hornell; one great-grandson, Matthew Donnelly of Hornell; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will be present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Samuel Smith officiating. Burial will be in Arkport Cemetery.

SUE ANN LIVERGOOD
CONWAY, Ark. - Sue Ann Livergood, 31, died Monday (Sept. 22, 2003) in Greenbrier, Ark. unexpectedly.
She was born Oct. 17, 1971 in East Stroudsburg, Pa., the daughter of William S. and Nancy (Levine) Livergood, Sr.
She had resided in Wellsville prior to moving to Conway, Ark. three years ago.
She was a graduate of the Wellsville High School and Alfred State College, where she received a degree in human services. She was formerly employed at ARC in Wellsville and was last driving truck along the East Coast.
While in high school, she was the 1988 NYS Champion and also the Empire States Champion in the shot put. While at Alfred State College, she went to the National's in shot put. She also enjoyed competing in arm wrestling.
For her many athletic awards, the Mayor of Wellsville declared a special day as the "Sue Livergood Day" in her honor.
Surviving are her mother, Nancy Livergood of Wellsville; brother, William Livergood, Jr. of Wellsville; and companion, Julia Paul of Conway, Ark.
She was predeceased by her father in January 2003.
Friends may call Tuesday at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville from 1-2 p.m. at which time services will be held. Rev. Ralph Eastlack will officiate.
Burial in the Knights Creek Cemetery, Scio.

GERALD J. DRIES
ARKPORT - Gerald J. Dries, 72, of 8616 Burns Rd., Arkport, died early Sunday morning (Sept. 28, 2003) at the VA Hospital in Bath, following a long illness.
Born in Hornell on Feb. 8, 1931, he was the son of Arthur and Grace (Sylvester) Dries. Gerald was a graduate of Arkport Central School. He had been employed for 10 1/2 years at Westinghouse Corporation in Bath, and later was employed for 20 years at the former SKF in Hornell, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church.
He was married in 1953 to the former Sara Williams, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Bruce (Bobbi) Dries of Arkport, David Dries of Robesonia, Pa., and Edward (Fiama) Dries of Naples, Italy; one daughter, Susan (Lewis) Woodvine of Arkport; four sisters, Anna Greenmum of Phoenix, Ariz., Delores Sherwood of Elmira Heights, Frances Paladin of New Mexico, and Lois Fredricks of Ithaca; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family of Gerald J. Dries will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, where funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 8 p.m., with Father Robert Kanka officiating. Interment

AVOCA - Rebecca J. "Becky" Larsen, 62, died Wednesday afternoon (July 30, 2003) at her home at 7 Grant St., after a long illness.

WAYLAND - Bertha G. "Aunt Bert" Jalbrzykoski, 91, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2003) at the Vincent House (Comfort Care Facility) in Wayland, after a brief illness.
Aunt Bert was born Jan. 3, 1912, in Bridgehampton, Long Island, a daughter of Adolph and Teafila (Zalenski) Wisniewski. She was the wife of Stanley T. "Big Stan" Jalbrzykoski; he predeceased her on June 15, 1991. Aunt Bert was a communicant member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wayland.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

CAMERON - Charlotte S. Dodge, 59, of 5297 County Route 119, passed away Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at the Kennedy Home in Cameron.
Born April 26, 1944, a daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Stewart Sanford, she had been a lifelong area resident, graduating Hornell High School, and later moved to the Bath area. Charlotte was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bath American Legion. She was predeceased by her brother, Adair Sanford.
She is survived by four daughters, Karen (Chris) Vaughan of Bath, Kathleen (Tim) Phillips of Niagara Falls, Kim Strang of Bath and Kandy Dickson of Savona; two sons, Donald (Jennifer) Dodge of Victor and David Dodge; father, Robert Sanford of Hornell; three sisters, Carol Andrews of Avoca, Marcia (Thomas) Davis of Almond and Connie (Jeff) Freeland of Almond; three brothers, Robert (Tina) Sanford of Ohio, Terry (Janice) Sanford of Tennessee and Calvin (Roxanne) Sanford of Hornell; and 14 grandchildren.

DOUGLAS R. SMITH
NUNDA - Douglas R. Smith, 50, died Monday (Oct. 6, 2003).
He was born Dec. 14, 1952, in Dansville, to Raymond and Mary White Smith.
Douglas was a past commander of the Dalton Legion; and was a member of the Dansville Moose Club and the Phantom Revival Senior Drum and Bugle Corp.
He was predeceased by his father, Raymond; his stepfather, Howard; and two brothers, Tinker and Roger.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Baar of Nunda; three brothers, Dean (Wilma) Smith of Mt. Morris, Corky (Doreen) Smith of Retsof and David (Carol) Smith of Nunda; two sisters, Lois (Fritz) Wood of Nunda and Louise Bennett of Nunda; a very special friend; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mann Funeral Home in Nunda. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor William Nowak officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Hill Cemetery, Town of Portage.

ROCHESTER - Howard Kilbury Jr. passed away at his own home on Wednesday (Oct. 8, 2003) ending his battle with cancer.
Howard was born in 1943 to Howard and Eleanor (Guthiel) Kilbury in Hornell.
Howard is survived by three sisters, Linda (James) Kurtz, Rochester; Shirley (John) Chapman, Bath; Bobbi (David) Teagarden, Bethel, Conn.; two brothers, Robert H. Kilbury, Austin, Texas; David (Larry Wohlford) Goodwin, Goodyear, Ariz.; and extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephew, aunts, cousins, and many dear friends.
Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 10, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the John J. Curran Funeral Home, 535 Oxford St., Rochester. The funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Blessed Sacrament Church, Oxford St., Rochester.
