WILLIAM F. SHORT
BELFAST/MT. MORRIS - William F. Short, 84, died Monday (Aug. 9, 2004).
He was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Florence, Colo., to Leon and Clara Jessop Short. He was the founder, owner and operator of the Six-S Golf Course, Restaurant & RV Park.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Marcia; and brother, Tom.
Survivors include two sons, Larry (Jean) Short of Belfast and Alan Short of Horseheads; two daughters, Nancy (Bruce) Tucker of Fillmore and Anita (Ronald) Forbes of Mt. Morris; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mann Funeral Home in Nunda. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Burt Smith officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.

GENEVIEVE C. GORDON
CANASERAGA - Genevieve C. Gordon, 77, died Monday (Aug. 9, 2004).
She was born June 10, 1927, in Nunda to Floyd and Eliza Dieter Smith. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning, crocheting, and loved the outdoors and flowers. She was a member of the Canaseraga American Legion Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her brother, Orvel; sister, Venitha; and niece, Doris.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Earnest Gordon of Canaseraga; son, Richard Gordon; granddaughter, Brandliyn; sister, Cora Durnion of Hornell; brother, Nelson (Bertha) Smith of Swain; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mann Funeral Home in Canaseraga. A funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Betty Holden officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Dalton.

ELIZABETH WARNER DAVIDSEN
CANISTEO - Elizabeth Warner Davidsen, wife of Dr. Donald Davidsen, of 68 Greenwood St., Canisteo, died at home Sunday (Aug. 8, 2004) after a short illness.
Her husband, Donald Davidsen, was a member of the state Assembly and Commissioner of Agriculture in the Pataki administration. She was his constant companion at political events. She served as an unpaid volunteer in her husband's Assembly office as well as in the legal division of NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets.
Born in Norwich, Conn., raised in Baldwinsville, she received her B.S. from Cornell University, and her master's degree from Syracuse University. She was a member of TRI-DELTA sorority. She taught several years in the Trumansburg school district, and was an active member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Canisteo. She was the daughter of Mabel Titus Warner and Chester Warner. She was a descendant of Col. Seth Warner, cousin to Ethan Allen, both of the Revolutionary War Green Mountain Boys. She had two brothers, Chester Jr., who died in Burma in World War II; and Richard, who is also deceased.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Donald Davidsen of Canisteo; three children, Dr. Guy Hammond of Bath, Barbara Hammond of Westbury, Long Island, and Elizabeth Hammond Blaise of Rumemede, N.J.; her three stepchildren, Karen Davidsen Polechetti of Lockport, Kristine Davidsen Dineen of Canisteo and Richard Davidsen of Everett, Wash. There are 14 grandchildren.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 10, and Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 7-9 p.m. at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Canisteo. A funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Canisteo on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. Interment
will be at the convenience of the family.

ANNE MARIE WASHBURN
SCIO - Anne Marie Washburn, 19, of 4346 East Sciota St., died at home on Thursday (Aug. 6, 2004) after a long illness.
She was born June 23, 1985, in New York City.
A lifelong resident of Scio, she was attending both Scio Central School and BOCES in Belmont. She was proud to have been chosen to carry the torch for the Special Olympics.
She is survived by her adoptive parents, Ronald L. and Grace E. Lundquist Washburn; brothers David, Mark and Nathan Washburn of Wellsville, Scio and Astoria, respectively; sisters, Sarah and Liliet Washburn, both of Scio; her paternal adoptive grandparents, Kenneth and Irene Washburn of Wellsville; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and also many other adopted brothers and sisters.

LEEANNA TRIPP
HORNELL - LeeAnna Tripp, 76, of 26 William St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Friday morning (Aug. 6, 2004) at Rochester General Hospital.
Born in Dansville on Feb. 22, 1928, she was the daughter of Claude and Lottie Gates. She was a graduate of Dansville High School and had resided in Hornell for the past 55 years.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, LeeAnna had an extended family with many special nieces, nephews and close friends. For many years she worked for hte Department of Labor and retired as manager of the Western Regional OTB. She remained active in many social endeavors with her husband, Bob. Together they were members of the Chumung Valley Antique Car Club, the USS Amsterdam CL101 Navy Reunion Association and the Maple City Barbershop Chorus.
LeeAnna served many roles in community organizations throughout her life. She was a former president of the Irving School PTA, was active in Campfire Girls and Boy Scouts of America and helped create the Tri-County AAU Swim Club. Her circle of friends was extensive and she often me with "The Golden Girls" for their regular coffee hour and she also enjoyed her pinochle card club.
She was known by many to be a savvy and ceative home decorator and homemaker. Her family will remember her as a genuine optimist who always had a kind word, wonderful sense of humor and loved living her life to the fullest.
LeeAnna was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lottie Gates; brothers, Clifford, Charles and Dorr Gates; sister, Dorothy Hampsher; and her mother- and father-in-law, Meredith and Beulah Tripp.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Bob Tripp; her favorite daughter, Terre (Lee) Dennis of Homer; her favorite son, Tim (Kim) Tripp of Westminster, Colo.; grandchildren, Seth (Jennifer) Dennis, Jill (Don) Dennis, both of Cortland, Katie and Andrew Tripp of Westminster, Colo.; great-grandson, Joel Dennis of Cortland; sisters-in-law, Mildred and Helen Gates, Gloria Stohr and Wanda (Bob) Jandrew; and brothers-in-law, Fredrick (Mary) Tripp and Gerald (Genean) Tripp.
The family of LeeAnna Tripp will receive friends on Monday, Aug. 9, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, where a celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, with Lee Ryan officiating.

GEORGE W. SCOTT
WAYLAND/DANSVILLE - George W. Scott, 65, pass away peacefully Thursday (Aug. 5, 2004) at his home, after a long illness.
George was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Dansville, a son of Randall and Louise (Rawleigh) Scott. He was the husband of Nancy Sick, who survives. He was a former employee of the Thornapple Farm in Leicester. In addition to his parents, George was also predeceased by a brother-in-law, Kenneth Warner.
He was a member of the Hook and Ladder Co. of the Dansville Fire Department and a loyal member of the Dansville Moose. George and Nancy were also members of the HARES CB Club in Hornell. He enjoyed working on the farm, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Other than his wife, Nancy, he is survived by five children, Debra Donohue (Marsha Lowman), Wilson (Tracy) Scott, Tammy (Stephen) Canuti and Raymond Scott of Dansville and Tina (Raymond) Jacobs of Birdsall; a son-in-law, James Donohue, of Warsaw; two brothers, James (Joann) Scott and Richard (Doris) Scott, all of Dansville; two sisters, Margaret Ackley of Dansville and Mary Warner of Hornell; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 12-2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville, where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling. Burial will be held in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.

GENE M. JOHNSON
AVOCA - Gene M. Johnson, 67, died suddenly Thursday (Aug. 5, 2004) at his home at 4648 Fox Rd.
Born in Proctor, Minn., on Jan. 26, 1937, he was a son of the late Hugo and Leona Eugsterom Johnson.
He retired from Eastman Kodak and from the U.S. Army Reserve Unit. He was an active member of the Avoca American Legion and the Bath Elks Lodge.
His family includes his son, Richard (Vicky) Johnson of Avoca; his daughter, Debbie (Randy) Redman of Webster; his four grandchildren, Craig Johnson and Kara Wilson of Avoca, and Molly and Emily Redman of Webster. He is also survived by many friends; and his dog, Gail.
He will be sadly missed.
Calling hours are from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a service in his memory will be held following calling hours at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7.

ESTELLE A. EVANS
HORNELL - Estelle A. Evans, 84, formerly of the Airport Road, passed away peacefully Friday (Aug. 6, 2004) at the Steuben County Health Facility in Bath, where she had resided the past 10 years.
Born in Richmond, Va., Sept. 28, 1919, she had resided in Hornell for many years. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Hornell and had been employed as a bookkeeper for her husband, Mose Evans, in the operation of the Mose Evans Body Shop in Hornell.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice "Mose" Evans, as well as all her siblings.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Bender-Brown and Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, where funeral services will be held following calling hours at 12 p.m., with the Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
DOMINIC J. "MEGO" ANASTASIA
HORNELL - Dominic J. "Mego" Anastasia, 86, of 7130 Hyland Drive, entered into rest Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 4, 2004) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, after a long illness.
Born in Olean on April 4, 1918, he was a son of the late Guiseppi and Carmella Orcutti Anastasio. On Sept. 13, 1939, he was married in Olean to the former Emilie Pyrkosz, who predeceased him on Aug. 5, 1989.
A resident of Olean for most of his life, Mego was a graduate of Olean High School; and was previously employed by Clark Brothers and retired from Erie Builders in Olean, where he was employed as a salesman. While residing in Olean he was a communicant of St. John's Church and was a Fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He had resided in Hornell since 1979, and was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish having attended St. Ann's Church. He was a member of the Hornell Moose Lodge No. 210, the Hornell Association, the Hornell Booster Club, a social member of the Corp. J.J. Mooney V.F.W. Post No. 2250 in Hornell and the Arkport American Legion Post No. 1248, and a former member of the Hornell Elks Lodge No. 364.
Mego was an avid baseball and softball fan and coached various baseball and softball teams in Olean and Hornell. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
His family includes his three daughters, Donna Coddington Harshaw of Hornell, with whom he had resided the past two years, Sandra (Edward) Wisniewski of Syracuse and Joanne (Thomas) McEntee of Rochester; his son, James (Connie) Anastasia of Baltimore, Md.; his 10 grandchildren, David (Tracy) Coddington and Kirk Coddington, all of Hornell; Mark Wisniewski and Karen (James) Wisniewski Walser, all of Syracuse; Julie and Kevin McEntee, both of Rochester; and Jill, Emily, Stacey and Jimmy Anastasia, all of Baltimore, Md.; his seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Catherine Melaro of Olean; his brother, Ralph Anastasia of Olean; also his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents and wife, Dominic was predeceased by his five sisters, Minnie Barbaro, Rose Russo, Mary Anastasia, Helen Bolognese and Josephine Erickson; and his brother, Frank Anastasia.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean, where a wake service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8.
Friends are invited to meet his family at St. John's Church, 931 North Union St., Olean, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9. Committal prayers and interment
will follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.

EDNA STADELMAIER
BATH - Edna Stadelmaier, 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning (Aug. 4, 2004) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility, where she received excellent care, following an illness.
Born in Horseheads on Dec. 26, 1920, Edna was the daughter of Lynn and Charlotte Cooper Tenny. She married George Howard Stadelmaier on Nov. 27, 1948, and he predeceased her on June 14, 1999.
Edna loved children, she was employed for many years at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center as a day care provider. In serving the Lord, she was a longtime member of the Elmira Wesleyan Church, where she was very active in church functions. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, knitting and caring for her home.
Most important to her was her family who survive her including her daughters, Joyce and the Rev. Daniel Pickering, Canisteo; Diane West, Jamestown; a son, George H. Stadelmaier Jr., Pensacola, Fla.; brothers, Lynn Tenny, Boonsboro, Md.; and Donald Tenny, Riverview, Fla.; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and her church family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was predeceased by her brothers, Clinton, William and Jack Tenny.
Family and friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Elmira Wesleyan Church, 1100 S. Main St., Elmira. Funeral services will follow the visitation in the church at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Edward Crandall officiating. Graveside services will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, where Edna will be interred in the Stadelmaier Family Plot.

GRACE E. RICE
HORNELL/CONCORD, N.C. - Grace E. Rice, 79, formerly of Maple Street, Hornell, entered into rest Tuesday (Aug. 3, 2004) at her home in Concord, N.C., following a long illness.
She was born in the Town of West Union on April 15, 1925, the daughter of Clayton and Aleen Bettinger House. She was married to Paul I. Rice on Feb. 25, 1975, who survives. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Leonard; her son, Charles VanKeuren; and her brothers, James and Albert House.
Grace lived for many years in the Canisteo/Hornell area; was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, class of 1943; and had worked as a hostess at the former Hotel Sherwood and as a clerk and department manager in the Sporting Goods Department of the Sears-Roebuck Co. in Hornell.
Grace's family includes her husband, Paul I. Rice; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda (Fred) Leonard of Wellsville; her sons and daughters-in-law, David (Mindy) VanKeuren of North Hornell and Michael (Terri) VanKeuren of Concord, N.C.; her grandchildren, Christopher Leonard, Scott Leonard, Tiffany VanKeuren, Chad VanKeuren, Brian VanKeuren, Connie Leonard and David Leonard; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
It was Grace's request that there be no calling hours and that a private service be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Hornell Rural Cemetery.

PAUL E. PELLETIER
BATH - Paul E. Pelletier, 33, of Rochester, died unexpectedly Monday (Aug. 2, 2004).
He was born in North Hornell, May 8, 1971, the son of Douglas and Stella Pelletier. He was a graduate of Belfast High School in 1989, and a graduate with honors of MCC in Rochester as a Phi Beta Kappa. Paul was an honor student at RIT, an Army veteran, and also worked for Belfast-Moosehead Rail Road. Paul was a wonderful caring person. He gave so much to so many and never expected anything in return.
He is survived by his mother and father, Stella and Douglas Pelletier of Belfast, Maine; five brothers, Matthew (Cynthia) Pelletier of Bath, John (Penny) Pelletier of St. College, Pa., Luke Pelletier of Avoca, Mark Pelletier of Belfast, Maine, and Joshua Pelletier of Red Hook; two sisters, Roxanne (Michael) Westbrook of Avoca and Sandra Russell of Belfast, Maine; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his fiancé, Sara Willis, who died of Cystic Fibrosis; his sister, Donna; and his grandparents.
A life cut too short. Paul's smile and spirit will always be with all who knew him. Paul, we love you and are so proud of you and miss you terribly.
Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 6, from 7-9 p.m. at Fagan's Funeral Home, 31 W. Morris St., Bath. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 12 p.m. at St. Pius Church in Cohocton, with Rev. Mike Schramel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Pius Cemetery.

LOON LAKE - Elsie M. Dye, 91, met her Lord Tuesday (July 20, 2004) while residing at Palm Harbor Manor Care in Florida.
The widow of John J. Dye, who died in 1989, she is survived by her son, Forrest Dye of Florida; two grandsons, Gary and Barry Dye; two great-grandchildren, John and Danielle Dye, all in the Hornell area; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Loon Lake Community Chapel on Sunday, Aug. 8, at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fremont Fire Department or the Loon Lake Community Chapel would be warmly welcome.
