Pierce, Henry C.
Mr. Henry C. Pierce passed away Saturday in Mt. Vernon at the age of 93. He was born in Franklin County to the late Clabe and Eula King Pierce. He was a member of the Cypress Baptist Church in Winnsboro and a ticket collector for the Texas Highway Department. He was preceded by his wife, Pauline Beckton Pierce, who passed away July 30, 1987. Survivors include, niece, Deresa Jo Buffo of Plano; nephews, Wayne Pierce of Irving, Glenn Pierce of Midland, James Wright of Tyler, and David Wright of parts unknown.
Graveside services are schedualed for 10:00 AM. Monday, August 5, 2002 at Cypress Cemetery.
Litchfield, Joan
Mrs. Dorothy Joan Litchfield died Saturday, August 10, 2002 in a Tyler Hospital. She was born August 17, 1925 in Fort Scott, Kansas to the late, Donald and Dorothy Howard Calhoun. Mrs. Litchfield was a retired physical education teacher having taught 23 years in the New Mexico School Districts. She was a 1947 graduate of Emporia State University in Kansas were she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. She and her husband moved to Holly Lake Ranch in 1991 from Conchas Dam, New Mexico. Mrs Litchfield was a member of Holly Tree Chapel, the Ladies Guild of Holly Lake, the Holly Lake Book Club, and a volunteer at the library.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-five years, Bill Litchfield of Holly Lake Ranch; daughters, Ann Bullock of Southlake, Texas, Jean Pickett of Austin, Texas; brother, Don Calhoun of Burlington, Kansas; grandsons, Dr. Jeff Bullock of Dallas, Texas and Ryan Bullock of Southlake, Texas
Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Holly Tree Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Reece Officiating.
Mattie L. Darden
Mrs. Mattie Lucille Darden went to be with Lord on Friday, August 2, 2002 at the age of 87. She was born on May 20, 1915 to the late Henry and Martha Ann Maxey Gleaton. Mrs. Darden married Mr. Earl Darden on June 25, 1936 and he preceded her in death in 1991. She was retired from the retail industry and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnsboro. Mrs. Darden was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Earl Darden, seven sisters and one brother. Survivors include daughters, F. Leta White of Winnsboro and Virginia Ann Mills of Greenville; grandchildren, Tommy Earl White of Houston, Stephen Creigg White of Houston and LeeAnn Hitt of Winnsboro. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2002 at the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Leslie Mills and Rev. Stephen White officiating. Burial will be held at the Concord Cemetery with visitation from 6pm to 8pm at the Beaty Funeral Home.
Annie Laura Whitman
Mrs. Annie Whitman went to be with the Lord July 30, 2002, in Tulsa Oklahoma at the age og 86. She was born on October 28, 1915 to the late William A. and Hattie Boyd Nichols. Mrs. Whitman was a valedictorian of Winnsboro High School and attended the Southern Methodist University. She retired after working for 25 years with the Neiman Marcus Company as a retail manager. Mrs. Whitman was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro and was a current member of the 2nd Baptist Church in Katy, TX. Survivors include sons, Marcus Whitman of Katy and Robert Frederick Whitman of Houston; daughter, Joy Whitman of Tulsa; sister, Dorothy Mackey of Tyler and one grandchild, Elle Ruth Gound of Tulsa. Services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2002 at the First United Methodist in Winnsboro with Rev. Henry Suche officiating. Burial will be in the Lee Cemetery with visitation friday from 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
Ezilda M. Robertson
Mrs. Mary Ezilda Robertson passed away Monday in Tyler at the age of 85. She was born in Lake Charles, LA. to the late Nathan August and Rosa Lee Bienvenu. She married Roy Robertson and was retired from the Foleys Department Store. She had been a resident of Hawkins for 26 years, coming from Houston and was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include husband, Roy Robertson of Hawkins; sons, Larry Bricker of Seabrooke, Nathan Bricker of Pittsburg, PA; sister, Jacquline Linddecker of Houston; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 21, 2002, 10:00am at the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel in Hawkins, Texas. Burial will be at the Hawkins Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6pm to 8pm at the Beaty Funeral Home.

Mr. Justin Kyle Wayne Walker went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 23, 2002. Justin was born on August 14, 2002 in Quitman, Texas to Mandy Nichole Walker. Survivors include his mother, Mandy Nichole Walker of Winnsboro; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Barbara Walker of Winnsboro; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Elizabeth Bearden of Winnsboro; uncles, Jason Walker and Kevin Walker both of Winnsboro, Jimmy Walker of Tyler, Gerald Walker of Quitman, Chris Britton of Winnsboro and Carter Tadlock of Emory; aunts, Sandra Walker of Emory, Misty Walker of Quitman, Kathy Tadlock of Emory and Delia Britton of Winnsboro; numerous cousins and other extended family. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2002 at 4:00PM at the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the Little Hope Cemetery. Carroll D. Coates
Mr. Carroll Dupree Coates died Sunday in Winnsboro at the age of 58. He was born on May 1, 1944 to Kenneth Coates and Ellen Frizzell Smith. Mr. Coates was Baptist and worked in the oil field industry. He married the former Anna Lee Glenn on May 6, 1967. Mr. Coates was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Helen Glenn and his grand nephew, Chistopher William Wallace. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Anna Lee Coates of Winnsboro; mother and father, Ellen and Ed Smith of Mesquite; sons and daughters-in-law; Glenn and Chris Coates of Winnsboro, Dean and Priscilla Whitlock-Coates of Sierra Vista, AZ and Jason and Tammy Coates of Ft. Hood; brother and sister-in-law, Dillard and Linda Coates of Dallas; sister, Elaine Coates of Mesquite; nephew, Michael and Gari Butler of Dallas; several nieces and nephews and other extended family members. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel with visitation Tuesday evening from 7-8pm at the Funeral Home. Dean, Alvin Ray
Mr. Alvin Ray Dean, Sr. passed away Thursday in Bonham, Texas at the age of 76. He was born in Cooper, Texas to the Late Charles H. and Sibbie Thornberry Dean. He married the former Lois Kelly on November 6, 1943, who preceded him on January 27, 1996. He was a retired mechanic in the automobile business and served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion and The Church of Christ in Winnsboro where he served as deacon. Survivors include, son, Alvin R. Dean, Jr. of Donie, Tx.; daughters, Patsy Swann of Winnsboro, Melba Blair of Winnsboro; nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Graveside services are set for 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 31, 2002, with Mr. Ken Hinkley officiating.
Romine, George Edward
Mr. George Edward Romine died Thursday in Tyler at the age of 64. He was born on March 14, 1938 to the late George Eleck and Gladys Mayo Romine. Mr. Romine worked as a mechanic in the oil field industry. He married the former Jo Ann Irby on February 28 1997. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Romine of Winnsboro; sons and daughters-in-law, George "Bo" and Lisa Romine of Winnsboro, Tracy and Tina Romine of Winnsboro, Jason and Jenni Romine of Henderson and Steve and Julie Harrell of Rhonesboro; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Ray Giles of Winnsboro; brother, Jimmy Harris of Winnsboro; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and Jerry Holloway of Royce City, Johnnie Gail and Mike Higginbotham of Scroggins and 9 grandchildren.

Brooks, Janeva
Mrs. Janeva Mozell Brooks died Wednesday in Hawkins at the age of 88. She was born on January 22, 1922 to James Marion and Willie Alford Wilson. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the First Assembly of God in Hawkins. Mrs. Brooks was a retired executive secretary of General Electric. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Brooks in 1961. Surviving relatives include nephews, Rev. Don Majors of Hawkins, Rev. Steve Majors of Tyler, Terry R. Majors of Channelview, James C. Majors of Channelview, Dennis Wilson of Colorado, Bill Melton of Fort Worth and Bobby Melton of Florida; Nieces Jeannine Curry of Ben Wheeler, Brenda Sue Delamater of California and Joan Marie Kutchman; Sister-in-law, Edith Wilson of Ben Wheeler.
Services are set for 10:00 Am Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the First Assembly of God in Hawkins. Interment
will be in Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas.
Weems, Stella
Mrs. Stella Boyd Weems went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 2, 2002 at the age 98. She was born on September 17, 1903 to the late Tom and Dora Baber Boyd. She married Mr. James Weems on January 19, 1920 and he preceded her in death on February 20, 1986. Mrs. Weems was a homemaker and a member of the Revival Center of Winnsboro. She was also preceded in death by sons, John E. Weems, Larry Joe Weems and by a daughter, Minnie Lammons. Survivors include sons, James Jr. Weems of Azle and Donald Ray Weems of Winnsboro; daughters, Margarette Wilson of Winnsboro and Freda Thomas of Walauga; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday at the Beaty Funera Home Chapel with burial following at the Shady Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9pm Tuesday evening at the Funeral Home.
Holton, Oscar Dile
Mr. Oscar Dile Holton, Jr. died Monday in Quitman at the age of 79. He was born on December 10, 1922 in Childress, Texas to the late Oscar Dile Holton, Sr. and Nannie Elizabeth Rogers Holton. Mr. Holton served in the U.S. Airforce during WWII and attended the Holly Tree Chapel. Mr. Holton married the former Noveta Ellis on August 8, 1946 and was a professor at the Appalachain State University in Boone, North Carolina for twenty years. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Noveta Holton of Holly Lake Ranch; sons, Oscar Dile Holton, III of Massachusetts, Gary Dan Holton of Nashville, Michael Dale Holton of Lubbock and James Daven Holton of Ft. Worth; brothers, John Elbert Holton of Wellington, Raburn Robert Holton of Holly Lake Ranch and Lawson Hamilton Holton of Childress; sister, Bobbie Ella Gholson of Quannah and eight grandchildren.
Dehn, David
Mr. David Austin Dehn died Monday in Tyler at the age of 51. He was born on July 8, 1951 to the late George L.C. and Ruth Anne Pipenhagen Dehn. Mr. Dehn married the former Shirley Lorraine Michalka on March 11, 1995. He was self-employed as an electrician, a member of the First United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Dehn served in the First United Methodist Church Choir, was a member of the trustee committee and the evangalism committee. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Lorraine Dehn of Holly Lake Ranch; daughter, Kryssi Thumudo of Arlington; step-son, Scott Garrett of Florida; step-mother, Willa Dehn of Dallas; sister, Sandra Dehn of Dallas and two grandchildren, Hannah Garrett and Matthew Garrett.
Moore, Rodney
Mr. Rodney James Moore died Friday in Dallas at the age of 54. He was born August 20, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to the late, Alfred D. and Ruthie Louise Stockwell Moore. Mr. Moore was a Construction Supervisor and served in the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam. He was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church and the Southern Cruisers Motorcycles Club. He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony C. Moore in 1998.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Linda Moore of Winnsboro; daughter and son-in-law, Kristina and Dewayne Bragg of Eglin, AFB in Florida; sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Veronica Patrick of Winnsboro, Jared Patrick of Nacogdoches and Joel and Cheryl Patrick of Maguire, AFB in New Jersey; brothers and sister-in-law, Rickey "Tiger" Moore of Seagoville, Roger Moore of Rowlett and Randall and Renee Moore of Ben Wheeler; three grandsons, Kenny and Brandon Patrick and Creed Bragg.
Duke, Myrtle Hogg
Mrs. Myrtle Hogg Duke died Monday in Tyler at the age of 81. She was born in Ipswitch, Brisbane Australia to the late Duncan Stewart and Anne Reid Malcolm. Mrs. Duke married Marcus Ivan Duke October 7, 1942 and he preceded her on December 24, 1975. She was retired from the Nursing Industry and was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church in Winnsboro. Mrs. Duke was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 grandchildren, Christopher Nichols and Amy Weems, and one great grandchild, Maranda Skow. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret Ann Morgan of Winnsboro, Alvis Lynn and Mark Critchet of Sulphur Springs, Marry Elizabeth and Lynn Clanton of Quitman; brother, Robert Malcolm of Collinsville, Queensland, Australia; sister-in-law, Julia Duke of Dallas; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rhea, O.M.
Mr. O. M. Rhea, II went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 23, 2002. He was born on June 9, 1926 to the late Ansel A. and Lydia Brooks Rhea. Mr. Rhea married the former Virginia "Lou" Anderson on March 4, 1944 and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2000. He served in the U.S. Army and had retired from the State of Texas. Mr. Rhea was a 32 degree mason, member of the Waco Lions Club for 25 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winnsboro where he served as a deacon for five years. Among other churches where Mr. Rhea served as a deacon include, Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco and the Harris Memorial Baptist Church in Austin. Mr. Rhea has fifty years combined service as a deacon. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Royce M. and Tania Rhea of Houston and O.M. and Beverly Rhea, III of Fischer; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Ralph Kirkland of Kingwood; grandchildren, Krista Lyn Kirkland, Mark Rhea Kirkland, Colby Scott Rhea, Chad Bentley Rhea, Ema Loureese Rhea and Amy Elisa Rhea.
Hall, Murrel
Mr. Murrel Hall died Wednesday in Tyler at the age of 73. He was born on March 21, 1929 to James Henry and Oma Lassiter Hall. Mr. Hall married his first wife, Mrs. Charlene Turner on June 17, 1950 and she preceded him in death on November 11, 1989. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilda Chap. He married Xerlene Banks Alexander on January 4, 1997. Mr. Hall worked in construction with the oil field industry. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the American Petrolium Institute. Survivors include wife, Xerlene Hall of Hawkins; sons, David Hall, J.P. Hall and Alan Hall all of Hawkins; daughter, Charlotte Plumlee of Giddings; brothers, Leon Hall, Kelsey Hall and Mack Hall all of Gilmer; sister, Leona Cody of Houston and Geneva Venn of Gilmer; step-sons, Ricky Alexander and Kenny Alexander both of Winnsboro; step-daughter, Tammy Henry of Winnsboro; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Services are Friday, September 27, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Hawkins with the Rev. Charles Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Hawkins Cemetery.
Mangum, Mary Lavelle
Mrs. Mary Lavelle Mangum passed away Saturday, September 28, 2002 in Winnsboro at the age of 78. She was born May 4, 1924 in Trinity County to the late Guy Chester and Pearl Eddington Lee. Mrs. Mangum worked at the Gilbreath Memorial Library in Winnsboro for several years, was a member of The Friends of the Library and Church of Christ. She married Robert Milton Mangum December 28, 1944 and he preceded her on June 16, 1993. She was preceded also by brother, Dayton Lee. Survivors are, sons and daughters-in-law, Bob & Judy Mangum of Ft. Worth, Doug Mangum of Winnsboro, Danny & Kathy Mangum of Winnsboro; brother, Oran Lee of Plano; sister, Joy Owens of Irvine, CA; grandchildren, Mindy Bell, Danna Beaty, Chris Mangum, Mia Mangum, Jason Mangum, Brandon Mangum and Stacie Mangum; and four great grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Taylor Officiating. Interment
will be in Lee Cemetery.
Worth, David Leon
Mr. David Leon Worth died Sunday in Pittsburg at the age of 44. He was born in Camp County, Texas to the late Milton Leon Worth and Judith Pearl Boyd. He was a Farm Manager for Pilgrim's Pride and a member of the Leesburg Baptist Church. Mr. Worth was preceded in death by his father and brother, Milton Lavon Worth.
Survivors include his mother, Judith Worth Skidmore of Scroggins; sons, David Randall and Justin Daniel Worth of Scroggins; sister, Nancy Cummings of Scroggins; step-sister, Linda Toal of Cedar Hill; step-brother, Larry Skidmore of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lemon. Virginia
Mrs. Virginia Lee Lemon died Saturday in Tyler at the age of 82. She was born on July 27, 1920 to the late James Albert and Jessie Lee Long Robinson. She married Mr. Robert "Bob" Lemon on May 9, 1942 and he preceded her in death on November 20, 1997. Mrs. Lemon was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jamie Robinson and by two great grandchildren, Dillon and Derek Dodd. Survivors include daughters, Bettye Ann Lemon of Las Vegas, Mary Kay Lemon Gibbs of Fayetteville and Sally Lemon Foster of Hawkins; brother, Paul Robinson of Hurst; nephew, Jim Robinson of Weatherford; niece, Sharon Stevenson of Hurst; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
