Westminster – Stella Frances Shuman Eiff, 67 of 110 Lewie St. passed away Thursday, August 31, 2006 at her residence.
Born in Colusa, CA on February 2, 1939 she was retired from Jantzen. Mrs. Eiff was a member of Clearmont Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons Mike Alspaugh of Fair Play, Jeff Eiff of Mtn. Rest, Steven Eiff of Gray Court and Bruce Eiff of Westminster, daughters Penny Searight of Seneca and Yvonne Eiff of Westminster, two sisters Carol Hedden of Mt. Shasta, CA and Nell Reckers of CA, eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Her parents William and Katherine Ables Shuman precede her in death.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Clearmont Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Seneca – Helen Romaine Myers Bowers, 96 of 2006 Crystal Bay Court passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Lila Doyle Nursing Center.
Born in York, Pennsylvania on December 7, 1909 to William and Jennifer Mae Elsaesser Myers, Mrs. Bowers was a homemaker and of the Presbyterian faith. She was a 1934 graduate of Hood College.
Surviving are two sons Dr. Henry M. Bowers, Jr. of Sanibel, FL and Dr. William E. Bowers of Columbia, SC, a daughter Sally A. Flory of Seneca, eight grandchildren Henry M. Bowers, III, Lynne Barton, Kevin Bowers, Kendra Bowers, Todd Flory, Barbara Arnold, Robert Flory and Randy Flory and fourteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, her husband Henry Myers Bowers precedes her in death.
A private funeral service will be held from the Mass-Mock Hoffman Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio on Friday, September 1, 2006. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial.

Westminster – Bethie Pauline Whiten, 57 wife of Rev. William Robert Whiten of 504 To Woods St., passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at her residence.
Born in Oconee County on October 24, 1949 she was a member of Damascus Baptist Church and the church pianist. Mrs. Whiten was a CNA.
Surviving in addition to her husband Robert are sons Matthew Whiten and wife Windi of Six Mile, Jake Barnes of the home, daughters Robin Fuller of West Union, Marybeth Honea and husband Brian of Westminster and Jessica Crawford of the home, sister Josie Bennett of Walhalla and ten grandchildren Jacob, Charlie, Jessie, Amber, Issac, Issiah, Ashley, Austin, Caleb and Blake.
Her parents Rowland and Cokie Butts Marcengill precede her in death.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Thursday, August 31, 2006 from the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Oconee County on June 16, 1925 to Burt Mitchell and Minnie Turpin Turner he was retired from Duke Power where he served as a construction supervisor. Mr. Turner was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years Ruby F. Turner, sons Mitchell and Ricky Turner of Westminster, daughters Christine Rowland and Debra Lay Richardson both of Westminster, brothers Glen Turner of Westminster, Junior Turner of Alabama, Jack Turner of Seneca and Waymon Turner of Westminster, sisters Duree Skinner of Hartwell, GA. and Vera Bright of Seneca, nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
In addition to his parents, a son Rudy Turner and two sisters Ruby Bolt and Annie Ruth Turner preceded him in death.

Born in Long Beach, CA on July 8, 1948 she was a homemaker and a member of Cross Roads Baptist #2. Margaret had attended Tri County Tech and received a BA in Criminal Justice.
Survivors are sons Vince Edward Bentley of Lakeland, FL, Kristopher Almond Lee Ayers of Walhalla, step son Tommy Lee Ayers, Jr., stepdaughter Amanda Ray Ayers both of Salem, eight grandchildren Casey Smith, Katie Burrell, Brittany, Jesse and Bradley Ayers, Hannah Norton and Kayla and Daniel Ayers, father Thelmar Bates of Vero Beach, FL, loving companion Don O’Kelley and aunts Lounella McCrakin of Easley and Barbara Bates of Greenville and uncle Kenneth Bates of Liberty.
Her husband, the late Tommy Lee Ayers, Sr., mother Margaret Ethel Cameron Bates precede her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 4 PM, Tuesday, August 29, 2006 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. A private entombment will be held at a later date.

Seneca – Roger William Towe, 45 of 114 Slater Dr. died Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca.
Born in Oconee County on June 15, 1961 to John William and Mildred Irene “Bill” Nicholson Towe of Seneca, he attended Foothills Community Church and was a tractor-trailer operator, a loom fixer with J.P. Stevens Company, a hardwood floor specialist and mechanic.
In addition to his parents he is survived by wife Sandra “Sandy” Moore Towe, companion Leah Elizabeth Webb, daughters Samantha and Sydney Towe of the home, stepsons James and Luke Moore and Nathan Webb, stepdaughters Melanie Moore, Jennifer Gosnell, Hazel McCarter and Edith Marie Webb, brothers Leroy, Alan and Timmy Towe all of Seneca and sister Pamela McCall also of Seneca and six step grandchildren.
His son, Adam Joshua Towe precedes him in death.

Westminster – Douglas “Doug” Brinnon McGuffin, 67 of 203 Lakeside Dr. died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at his residence.
Born in Oconee County on January 5, 1940, he had worked at Beacon Mfg., where he was a machine operator. He was a member of the VFW Walhalla Post and a veteran of the US Army Naval Air.
Survivors include wife Gloria Yvette Martinez McGuffin of the home, sons Donovan McGuffin and wife April and Duane McGuffin and wife Christy all of Westminster and Douglas Swanson of Georgia, daughter Linette Davis also of Georgia and six grandchildren, Ashley, Caitlyn, Avery and Addison McGuffin, Brett Davis and Savannah Leigh Swanson.
His parents Horace “Pete” and Edna King McGuffin precede him in death.

Born in Oconee County, SC on April 28, 1957 to the late William Volley and Lucille Elliott Pearson, Ms. Pruitt attended Daytona Beach Community College where she obtained her nursing degree. She was employed by Gainesville Surgery Center in Gainesville, GA as a registered nurse.
Surviving is fiancé Robert W. Darby of the home, son Darrell R. Smith of Los Angeles, CA, brothers Roger, Earl and Donnie Pearson all of Westminster and Richard Pearson of Salem, sisters Patsy Couch of Walhalla and Bernice Brock of Statham, GA.

Born in Oconee County on November 14, 1916 to the late Arthur and Aubrey Smith James, she was a member of Westminster Church of God and a homemaker. Mrs. Carver was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are sons Tommy L. Carver of Westminster, Ronald E. Carver of Seneca, Harley R. Carver of Walhalla and Larry G. Carver of Bozrah, CT, daughters Betty Hawkins and Nina Albertson both of Seneca, Sue Kelley of Greenville and Martha Price of Westminster, 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, her husband James Harold Carver, sons James Denis and Gary L. Carver and brothers Aaron and Ernest James precede her in death.

Mtn. Rest - Lee Barry Keener, 39 of 175 Merill Dr., died February 25, 2007 at his home.
Born in Oconee County on May 22, 1967 to Verlin Keener and the late Flossie Lillie Moore Keener, he was of the Baptist faith. Lee graduated from West Oak High School in 1985.
In addition to his father, Verlin of Rabun Gap, GA, his wife Treesa Sanford Keener of Westminster, son Barry James Keener of Blue Ridge, GA, daughters Amanda Leigh “Clair” Keener and Kristina “Soffee” Keener both of Walterboro, SC, brother Sheldon Keener of Pelzer, sister Marilyn Cooper and husband Tim of Westminster, uncle Merrill Moore of Brevard, NC and aunt Bertie Brewster of Anderson, 12 nieces and 1 nephew survive him.

Westminster – Derek was born on November 20, 1989, he died February 26, 2007 at home surrounded by those who loved him so much. Derek was a special child who spent every day of his young life wrapped in the love of his family. He lived a life of such innocence, courage and purpose. Derek touched many lives; those that knew him fell in love with him and his big smile.

Born on May 8, 1951 in Kansas City, KS, she was the daughter of Margie Cox of Walhalla and the late Authur Dake. She was employed with the Department of Social Services of Anderson, SC.
Surviving is her husband Nick Grozinger of Kansas City, MO, a daughter Nicole Grozinger of Walhalla, SC and a son, Michael Grozinger of Westminster, SC. She has one grandson, Austin Tyler Dickerson of Walhalla, SC.

Born in the Cross Roads Community on November 24, 1928 to the late Edward and Lyda Boggs Long, Mr. Long was a retired weaver with La France Industries for 49 years and was an avid coon hunter. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Elliott Long, of the home, daughter Bobby Sue Rochester of Cherokee, NC, stepson Rick Smith and wife Wanda of Seneca, , brother Glenn Long and wife Frankie of Seneca, sister Patsy Cooper and husband Frankie of Seneca, one grandson Stephen Rochester, two great grandchildren Brittney and Braylyn Rochester and one great-great grandchild Brooklyn Rochester and five step grandsons.

Born in Moonville, SC on July 17, 1931 he was the owner and operator of Oconee Livestock Auctions. He was an auctioneer and blacksmith and had shod horses for over 37 years. He also enjoyed farming. He was of the Baptist faith.

Born in Oconee County on September 4, 1936 to the late Charles Eugene and Minnie Orr Johnson, he was retired from a variety of occupations and most enjoyed selling produce. His hobbies included golf and fishing during retirement. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include sons Terry Johnson and wife Joy of Spartanburg and Gary Johnson of Easley, brothers Ray Johnson of Seneca and Manley Johnson of Summerville, one granddaughter, Torey Johnson of Spartanburg.
In addition to his parents, brothers Albert, Glenn and Eugene Johnson and sisters Lila Mae Bramlett, Ruth Bibbs and Bernice Sosebee precede him in death.

Ella Della Hart, 101, of 3275 Toccoa Hwy., Westminster, died Sunday, March 18, 2007 in Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Williamsburg County, SC, December 13, 1905 to the late Joseph Limuel & Martha Alice Poston Tilton; she was the widow of Thomas Jerry Hart. Mrs. Hart was a bag maker with Union Bag Company, Savannah, Ga. and a member of the N.T. Holiness Church.
Survivors: Sons – Joe Hart of California and Johnny Hart of Lavonia, Ga.
Daughters: Vera Wilbanks of Westminster and Jewell Capps of Seneca.
30 Grandchildren and 30 Great-Grandchildren
Funeral Services will be 11 AM, Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel, Westminster with burial to follow in Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, on Monday, March 19th at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted. The family is at the home of Vera Wilbanks, 3275 Toccoa Hwy,. Westminster.

Seneca – Herman Holbrooks, 68 of 660 Twin Lakes Rd., died Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Long Creek on April 21, 1939 he was retired from the spinning department of JP Stevens, Clemson Plant. Mr. Holbrooks also enjoyed farming and was a beekeeper. He was of the Church of God of Prophecy faith.
Survivors include wife, Lois Edna Kelley Holbrooks of the home, sons Randy Holbrooks and wife Kathryn of Seneca and Glenn Holbrooks and wife Shelby also of Seneca, brothers Clifton, L.C., Bobby and Robert Holbrooks, sisters Nell Nalley and Eunice Dickerson and one granddaughter Jessica Leigh Ann Holbrooks.
His parents Jess and Minnie Turner Holbrooks and brothers Cline and Clayton Holbrooks precede him in death.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Wednesday, May 2, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Hwy 11, Westminster.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted. The family is at the residence.
