Born December 12, 1993 in Oconee County, he was a Westminster Middle School 7th Grade Student and attended Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors: Mother - Judy Loretta Harbin Johns and companion Gregory Warren Crooks of the home, Father - Gary Lee Johns of Seneca.

Sylvia Judith Sublette Bennett

Sylvia Judith Sublette Bennett passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home April 14, 2007 after an extended illness, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She was born in the USAF Base hospital at Wright-Patterson, Ohio on September 27, 1960 to Julia Rose Wright Sublette and Richard Ashmore Sublette.
She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Samuel Bennett. Sylvia leaves behind her parents, brothers Christopher Mark Sublette of Falls Church Virginia, Wright Daniel Sublette of Shalimar Florida, Carey Patrick Sublette and his wife Catherine Dovel and their daughters Cayley and Kedron Sublette of Rancho Cucamonga California.
She also leaves behind Uncles and Aunts, Colonel Richard R. Simpson and Sarah W. Simpson of Upatoi, Georgia and Joseph Shepard Sublette and Janet B. Sublette of Sumter South Carolina.
Sylvia, being the daughter of a career Air Force officer, spent time between moves in Westminster, S.C. with her two grandmothers, Jessie Ava Tannery Sublette and Anne Belle Watkins Wright. From one she learned of a generous spirit and the love of gardening and cooking, from the other she learned the joy of laughter and beauty of a trained singing voice.
When in elementary school in California she was identified as an academically gifted student. Later at Meigs Junior High School in Shalimar, Florida she was singled out for her achievements academically, her leadership ability and her athletic ability. Gifted with a fine singing voice, she won the Choctawhatchee High School talent contest in 1977 and studied voice with Trudie Sherwood at Pensacola Junior College.
She sang in the choirs at Shalimar United Methodist Church and the Trinity UMC of Fort Walton Beach and recently at the Shalimar Presbyterian Church where she was a member.
She served as a counselor on the crisis line for the Bridgeway Center and was honored in 2005 as the outstanding mental health volunteer for the year by the Mental Health Association of Okaloosa/Walton Counties, Florida. Before her death she was serving as a volunteer at the Bridgeway Mental Health Center of Fort Walton Beach and was looking forward to more job training she was to receive in Pensacola, in May.
Graveside service will be held on Tuesday May 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Westminster First Baptist Church Memorial Park with Dr. George A. Harper of the Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sandifer Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45.
Sandifer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Floral tributes will be accepted.

David Certain

Walhalla – David Wyly Certain, 43 of 132 Spruce Dr., died Friday, April 20, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Oconee County on October 27, 1963 he was a lineman foreman with Blue Ridge Electric and attended the United Assembly of God in Seneca.
Surviving are his wife, Luann Bolt Certain of the home, son Hunter David Certain and daughter Madison Darby Certain also of the home, father Wyly Certain, mother, Dale M. Kelley both of Westminster, sisters Elaine C. Lee of Westminster and Gina C. Chapman of Sunset.
Funeral services will be 3:30 PM, Monday, April 23, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 PM, Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in David’s memory may be made to the United Assembly of God Building Fund, 11075 Watson Dr., Seneca, SC 29672. The family is at the residence.

Westminster – Hazel Marcengill Chastie, 78 of 409 Retreat St., died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Westminster, SC on January 16, 1929 she was retired from Jantzen Inc. where she worked in quality control. Surviving are son Scott Chastie and wife Melissa of Seneca, daughter Theresa Hyman of Westminster, brother Buck Marcengill and wife Rose of Westminster, Danny Marcengill and wife Sandra of Seneca, sisters Jane Alexander and husband Maurice of Walhalla and Helen Frederick and husband Bob of Westminster, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her late husband Adger Sloan Chastie, her parents Rufus R. and Vera Freeman Marcengill, brother Roy Marcengill and sisters Rachel Carroll, Ina Ruth McQueen and Mary Ann Frederick precedes her in death.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Faith Baptist Church in Westminster. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 11, Westminster.

Seneca, SC - Rachel Kirkpatrick Lowry Blanton died April 7, 2007 at her home. She was born in Seneca on June 19, 1916 to the late Ethel Kirkpatrick and Bright Anderson Lowry. She graduated from Lander College, worked with family service agencies in Colleton, and Oconee Counties, and taught school for a time in Calhoun Falls. She was married to the late Lieutenant Rex Leroy Blanton of Mosheim, Tennessee July 27, 1941 in Seneca and shortly thereafter relocated to Pope Air Field in Fayetteville, NC. At the conclusion of his military service Mrs. Blanton became affiliated with the Oconee County School system in the Seneca area schools first as a classroom teacher and later as librarian.
As a lifetime member of the Seneca Presbyterian Church she was involved in church school activities, library, church historian for a period of time, and served as Circle chairman. Mrs. Blanton was also a third generation member of the Once-A-Week Club as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames. She served on the Oconee Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees for 6 years. Mrs. Blanton was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased in the death by her parents and her two brothers, Milton and Bright Lowry, Jr. Her survivors include her three children Rachel B. Kraske of Ranier, Oregon, Melinda B. Harper and Rex L. Blanton, Jr. both of Seneca, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Blanton enjoyed gardening, reading, and genealogical research.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at The Seneca Presbyterian Church. Seneca – Sylvester “MAW” Mamie Pointer Blakely, 87 of 798 Mundy Lane, formerly of S. Townville St., Ext., died Saturday, April 07, 2007 at her residence.
Born in Oconee County on May 21, 1919 to the late Jim and Cornelia Stone Pointer she was a retired nurse at Oconee Memorial Hospital and a homemaker. Mrs. Blakely was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church.
Surviving is son G. W. Blakely and wife Mary, daughter Mary Alice Sanders and husband Jimmy, brothers Reverend Carl Pointer all of Seneca and Clarence Pointer of Atlanta, GA., sister Lila Nix of Westminster, ten grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, husband George William Blakely and daughter and son-in-law Virginia and Harold Bryant precede her in death.
Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday, April 10, 2007 from the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at South Union Baptist Church.

Born in Oconee County on June 25, 1965 he was employed by Thrift Brothers Saw Mill as a laborer and was of the Holiness Faith.
Surviving are wife Shannon Moore, son, Austin Moore of Seneca, daughters Brittany and Tinsley Moore of Seneca, parents Billy Joe and Betty Ruth Broome Moore of Walhalla, brothers Billy Ray Moore and wife Judy of Darlington, SC, James Douglas Moore and wife Karen of Westminster and John Eddie Moore and wife Melissa of Walhalla, sisters Wanda Gail Roach and husband Donald of Walhalla and Tammy Theresa Nichols and husband Russell of Westminster.
His maternal grandparents James and Essie Broome and paternal grandparents Eugene and Alma Moore precede him in death.

Mrs. Wood was born in LaFrance, SC a daughter of the late Tom and Lou Howard Blakley. She was a homemaker and a member of Pendleton Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter Regina Brown of Westminster, her son Larry Wood of West Union, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her son Jackie Wood.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 PM Friday in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster with the Reverend Doug Vernon officiating. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens.

Her mother Mary Magdalene Gibson Smith, maternal grandparents Robert and Gussie Harden Gibson and paternal grandparents Robert and Icie Pearl Rholetter Smith precede her in death.

Seneca – Mary Arnold Brown died peacefully Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Inn of Seneca,
after a long illness.
Born in 1912 in Atlanta, Georgia, she moved to Hilton Head Island in 1972 where she resided until moving to Seneca in October 2006. Prior to her retirement, she worked in accounting. She was an avid bridge player, gardener and an observer of wildlife.
Surviving are daughter, Elaine Brown Keane and husband Terry Keane of Seneca, two grandchildren, Jamie Keane and Molly Lilienthal and two great grandchildren, Brian and Taylor Lilienthal.
Her husband William A. Brown, parents Howard and Frank Clark Arnold and daughter Linda Jeanne Brown precede her in death.

Born in Oconee County to the late Franklin Furman and Ethel Cheek Wynne, Mr. Wynne was retired from the SC State School Bus Shop where he was a mechanic. He was a member of Clearmont Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Surviving is daughters Brenda W. Carnes of Westminster and Joyce W. Brewer of Walhalla, brother Pruitt Wynne of Westminster, sisters Frances Marcengill of Westminster, Betty Barnett of Seneca and Ruth Moss of Greenwood, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, wife Nellie “Nell” Idell Brooks Wynne, brother Ralph Wynne, an infant brother and sister Dot Calaham precede him in death.

Her parents Rufus Allen and Gladys Josephine Owens Land precede her in death.

Born in Keiser, Ark. to the late John Westley and Nettie Bailey Stacks; she was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband Charles Eugene Smallwood and son David Harold Smallwood of the home.

Born in Oconee County in 1926 she was a homemaker. Mrs. Metcalfe attended True Christian Fellowship.
Surviving are sons Leonard Hugh Carver of Cleveland, TN, three grandchildren Ryan Heath Carver of Nashville, Heather Elizabeth Carver and Tyler Hugh Carver.
Her husband J.D. Metcalfe, parents Leonard and Essie Ramey Carver and sisters Minnie Ramey and Beulah Ramey precede her in death.

Born in Pickens County in 1949, he had been retired Mayfair Mills in Easley prior to retiring from Square D Company, where he retired. Mr. Turner was a member of Clearmont Baptist Church in Westminster.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Diana Brock Turner of the home, children Michael Mauldin, Dawn Turner, Lamar Honea and Sherry Gibson, brothers Carl Turner and wife Carolyn of Easley, Buford York of Easley, Roger Turner and wife Vickie of Easley and Ken Turner and wife Betham of New Jersey, sisters Betty Cantrell and husband Doyle of Pickens, Louise Medlin of Easley, Pat Jenkins and husband Charles of Easley, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His parents Carl and Sadie Moore Turner and sister Ranelle Sentell precede him in death.

Born in Oconee County, she was a graduate of Westminster High School and retired from Kendall Company where she was a seamstress. Mrs. Barnett was a member of Utica Baptist Church.
Survivors include son David James of Seneca, stepson Larry Barnett, stepdaughter Judy Barnett brother Pruitt Wynne of Westminster, sisters Frances Marcengill of Westminster and Ruth Moss of Greenwood, grandchildren Jessica James, Ashley McGhee and Sandy Locklair, step grandchildren Christopher Barnett and Patrick Barnett and great granddaughter Emily Rose Locklair.
Twice married, her first husband John Warren James and second husband John Lewis Barnett, sons Randal Wynne James and Douglas Franklin James, parents Furman Franklin and Ethel Cheek Wynne, brothers Dennis and Ralph Wynne, sister Dorothy Callaham and grandson John Ivan James precede her in death.

Seneca - Rosa Lee Pointer, 79, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, of 618 Evelyn Dr. passed away June 24, 2007 at her residence.
Born in Westminster in 1927, she was a pastor’s wife and homemaker. Mrs. Pointer was a member of Lydia Baptist Church, the past president of the Woman’s Missionary Union, Sunday school teacher and Discipleship Training teacher.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Rev. Carl W. Pointer, sons Jerry Thomas Pointer and wife Dee of Pendleton, Carl Danny Pointer and wife Elizabeth of Greer, daughter Sandi Lee Cox of Piedmont, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Her parents Wade and Zelia Smith, brother Clarence Smith and sister Louise Cox precede her in death.
Funeral services will be 7 pm, Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. A private burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted or memorials in Mrs. Pointer’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Jason Doss “Squints” Barrett, 21, of Westminster, SC died June 22, 2007 in Seneca, SC.
He was born in Columbia, SC. His occupation was Landscaping.
He is survived by his Mother Patricia Doss John and Step-Father Jens John of Bluffton, SC , Father Michael Larry Barrett of Wallace, NC, brothers Michael James Barrett and wife Courtney of Bossier City, La., Bradley Eugene Barrett of Clemson and Zach Mitchell of Westminster, Paternal Grandparents Gene & Joy Barrett of Richlands, NC.
His maternal grandparents, James & Nellie Doss precede his death.
Funeral Services will be 4 PM, Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Calvary Church of God. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 at the church prior to the service.
The family request memorials be made to the Youth Center, Calvary Church of God, 10102 Long Creek Hwy., Westminster.
