Mrs. Lois Johnson Pafford, 77, died Sunday (10-3-1999) at the Satilla Regional Medical Center. She is Survived by 3 Sons: John Clark Pafford, Jr. of Waycross, Michael Pafford of Blackshear, GA and Timothy Pafford of Waycross. Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday in the Trinity United Methodist Church. The Family will receive friends from 7 - 9 PM Tuesday evening at the Funeral Home. The John Wesley Sunday School Class are requested to meet at the church at 10:10 to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Cora Lee Herrin, 70, died Tuesday (10-5-1999) at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL following a short illness. Survivors include 3 Daughters: Joyce Herrin Strickland of Waycross, Billie Sue Herrin Patterson of Tallahassee, FL, Jerrie Herrin Sapp of Brunswick, GA, 1 Sister: Mavis Griffin of Waycross, 8 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Mrs. Ruth I. Phillips
Mrs. Ruth I. Phillips, 89, died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) morning in Satilla Regional Medical Center following a short illness. A native of Trail Run, Ohio and formerly of Fairmont, W. Va. but had resided in Waycross for the past year. She was married first to the late Forest F. McGirr and then to late W.J. Phillips and was daughter of the late August Byers and Hazel Teeman Byers. She was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Athey. She was a retiree of Westinghouse Electric Corporation and a seamstress in her home for 45 years. A member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Fairmont, W. Va., sunday school teacher for 40 years, missionary society president, church board member and attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Waycross. The survivors include two daughters, Marjorie McGirr of Homesville, OH, Peggy Toth (husband Rudy) of Waycross; 1 grandson, Robert McGirr of Homesville, OH; and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) in the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 o'clock.
Mr. J.D. Nix
Mr. J.D. Nix, 60, died Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) morning at his residence after a extended illness. He was a native of Cumming, GA but had resided in Waycross since 1974. He was the son of the late Leon Nix and Mary Katherine Mathis Nix. He was retired with Georgia Power with 36 years of service. He was a member of Honey Grove Baptist Church in Cumming. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Thomason Nix of Waycross; one daughter, Kelly Griffin of Waycross; one son, Chris Nix of Brooks; three sisters, Janell Smith, Sue Stutz both of Canton; two brothers, Joe Nix of Marietta, Hugh Nix of Smyrna; three grandchildren, John Griffin, Ranna Nix, Riley Nix. A service is planned 2:00 pm Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) in the Music Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 Sunday evening at Music Funeral Home.
Mr. Donald (Don) Curtis Lovett
Mr. Donald (Don) Curtis Lovett, 70, died Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) in Satilla Regional Medical Center following a lenghty illness. A native of Waycross and had resided most of his life in Waycross and Atlanta. He was son of the late Amos Lovett and Odelle Lindsey Lovett Pogue. He was retired from Southeastern Stages Bus Lines and was a contract log hauler. Mr. Lovett served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in Germany and was a member of Second Baptist Church. The survivors include a daughter, Jackie Lovett (fiancé Ken Word) of Atlanta; a son, Tommy Lovett (wife Linda) of Waycross; three Grandchildren, Travis Lovett, Peggy Faulk (husband Stacey), Leketta Williams (husband Sammy); three great grandchildren, Gracianna Williams, Lavan Faulk and Jade Faulk; an aunt, Idelle Mize of Waycross; numerous cousins including Carolyn Hunley and Carol Rigsby both of Waycross, Mary Virginia Brodersen of Atlanta, Sandra Cook of Albany; a special friend, Patricia Carter of Waycross. Mrs. Gladys McKinnon Tillman
Mrs. Gladys McKinnon Tillman, 82, died Tuesday morning (Jan. 30, 2001) at Baptist Village after an extended illness. She is a native of Axson, but she has lived most of her life in Waycross. She was a homemaker and a member of Jordan Congregational Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late James McKinnon and Liza Murray McKinnon. She was the wife of the late John Paul Tillman. She is survived by her son, James Tillman (wife Myra) of Waycross; three daughters, Wynell Dyal (husband Jack) of Waycross, Ruth Scurry (husband Julian) of Nahunta, and Margie Fox of Waycross; a brother, J. D. McKinnon of Senoia; a sister, Rachel Rowland of Waycross; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Waresboro Cemetery. Mr. Shelby Ray Jordan: Mr. Shelby Ray Jordan, 52, died Tuesday morning(Jan.30, 2001) at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native of Homerville moved to Waycross, but had resided in Brantley County most of his life. He was the son of the late Henry Jordan. He was a correctional officer at Ware CI. He was a member of Cornerstone Church of God. He is survived by his wife; Marilyn Waldron Jordan of Brantley County; two daughters; Kacie Jordan of Brantley County, Shellie Morgan of Hoboken; one son Luke Johns of Nahunta; two grandchildren Caleb Morgan of Hoboken, Dalton Johns of Brantley County; mother; Gladys Jordan Burkett of Waycross; two sisters; Linday Plyer of Jacksonville,Fla; Sonjie Herst of Waycross; aunt Lois Delk of Waycross; several aunts & uncles and other relatives. A service is planned for 11 am Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) at Cornerstone Church of God with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Mrs. Caroline Shields Herzig
Mrs. Caroline Shields Herzig, 84, died Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) at Wynwood Assisted Living in Charlotte, North Carlina. She was the wife of the late Dr. Buell G. Herzig, and was also proceded in death by her sister, Sarah Shields Pfeiffer and brother, John Augustus Shields, Jr. Born in Dawson, she was the daughter of the late John Augustus and Marie Cheatham Shields. She moved to Waycross in 1930 and it was her home for almost 65 years. Mrs. Herzig was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Shorter College in Rome. She was past president of the Waycross Service League and Magnolia Garden Club and was a member of the Colonial Dames of America. She retired from the Ware County School System after 16 years of teaching. She was devoted to both her family and her students. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Herzig Hood and husband Bill of Fort Mill, South Carolina; her son, Buell Shields Herzig of Orlando, Fla.; three wonderful grandchildren, Caroline Hood Simas and husband David of Charlotte, North Carolina, Aleene Hood Miller and husband Douglas of Georgetown, South Carolina, and Shields Herzig of Orlando, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Davis Walker Simas and William Joseph Simas; a sister-in-law, Christine Thiesen Shields; and several nieces and nephews; loving friends and devoted care-givers. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) at 3 p.m., followed by visitation at the church. Burial will be private. Mr. Owen F. Smith
Mr. Owen F. Smith, 80, died Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) in the Pierce County Nursing Home following a long illness. He was a native of Pierce County but had resided in Waycross most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, James K. and Lydia King Smith; his grandparents, W.R. and Liza Connor Smith, Timothy Harris and Annie King; four brothers and 3 sisters. Mr. Smith was a retired farmer and carpenter. A member of the Primitive Baptist Church and served as a cook in the U.S.Army during World War II. The survivors include two sisters, Josie Henderson and Jeanette Walker both of Waycross; a brother: Lonnie A. Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001)in Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.
Mrs. Betty Bowman Floyd
Mrs. Betty Bowman Floyd, 64, died Friday night (Jan. 26, 2001) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She is a native and lifelong resident of Ware County, GA. She was a worker in the sewing factory and a homemaker. She was a former member of the Bible Baptist Church and attended the First Church of the Nazarene. She was the daughter of the late Morris Clinton Bowman and Cora Lula Hubbard Bowman. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Floyd of Waycross; sister, Dot Moye of Waycross; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Mrs. Mary C. Wisenbaker,77, died Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) evening at St.Vincents Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a native of Valdosta but had resided in Waycross since the early 70's. She was the daughter of the late C.J. Wisenbaker and Louise Wisenbaker. She was retired with Satilla Regional Medical Center as a Registered Nurse. A member of Youmans Chapel Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter; Annette Maddox husband Roy Gene of Temple, TX; a sister; Edith Barber of Orange,TX.; grandson Max Maddox wife Toi, great grandsons; Tylr Maddox, Mallori Maddox; a niece Claudia Hasty of Orange, TX; close friend Jeanie Monk of Waycross. A service is planned for 11AM Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) in the Music Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Waters Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10AM to 11AM Saturday morning.

Mrs. Wanda Ruth Puckett Dudley, 52, died suddenly Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) at her residence. She was a native of Bacon County but was a lifelong resident of Ware County and was daughter of the late James E. Puckett. She was a registered nurse and a member of Grace Baptist Church. A graduate of Ware County High School and Armstrong State College. Survivors include a daughter, Kristy Dudley of Savannah; a son, Rob Dudley of Atlanta; her mother, Addie P. Puckett of Waycross; 2 brothers, Dick Puckett of Waycross, Jody Puckett of Waycross; and 1 grandson, Austin Dudley. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jamestown Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Fisher Gaskins and Janie Wall Gaskins. She was the wife of the late James Bazemore. She is survived by her daughter, June Carole Bazemore Driggers of Kingsland; son, William F. Herrins, Sr. of Waycross; sister, Lillie Gillis of Waycross; four grandchildren, Gaye Driggers Kanitsch of Lawrenceville, Michael Driggers of Palm Harbor, Fla., William F. Herrin, Jr. of Brunswick, and Katherine Herrin Flynn of Hales Corner, Wis.; two great grandchildren, Kristen Leigh Kanitsch and Kaitlyn Nichole Kanitsch. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 28, 2001) at Oakland Cemetery.

Mr. Irvin F. (Red) Conaway, 55, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, FL., after a lenghty illness. He was a native of Savannah but had resided in Waycross for the past 9 years. He was retired with CSX Transportation after 30 years of service. He was Master of Thunderbolt Masonic Lodge 693. He was a US Navy verteran serving in Viet Nam, and an active member of Okefenokee Trail Riders Association and the Country Boy Plow Club. He was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Ann Dryden Conaway of Waycross; two daughters, Jan Smith of Waycross, Jody Oleary of Newport News, VA, a son Michael Conaway of Waycross; mother, Virginia Fields of Savannah; father and step mother, Marion and Cleat Conaway of Reidsville;a brother, Carlton Conaway of Tybee Island; four grandchildren, Scott Lawson, Victoria Oleary, Whitney Counts, Lauran Smith. She was married to the late George D. Gunter and was a daughter of the late Hiram Prester Davis and Ida Crews Davis. The survivors include one son, Jack E. Robbins, Jr. (wife Helen) of Austin, TX; two sisters, Betty J. King and Julia Griffin, both of Waycross; a brother, Gilbert C. Davis of Jacksonville, FL; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mrs. Iva Griffin Cook, 86, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001)evening at Baptist Village after a extended illness. She was a native of Brantley County had resided in Waycross since her retirement in 1973. She was the daughter of the late George Ruel Griffin and Minnie Davis Griffin and the widow of the late John Robert Cook,also preceeding her in death was a son Dale R. Cook and a sister Amy Jacobs. She was retired clerk with Civil Service, and a member of Central Baptist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She is survived by a daughter Marsha Valeria Cook of Waycross, five sisters; Luvada Cason of Waycross, Ruby Jacobs of Nahunta, Leona Amundson of Jacksonville,Fla., Mary Crews husband Archie B., Christine Dryden husband Leonard both of Hoboken, a brother in law: Claude Cook of Macon, and several nieces and nephews. A service is planned for 11:00 am Saturday (May 12, 2001)in the Music Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Mr. James Merle Mikell, 88, died Friday (May 11, 2001) in the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta following a short illness. He was a native of Lake Park but had resided in Waycross most of his life. He was son of the late J. P. and Sallie Mikell. He was retired from Fruit Growers Express Company and was a member of the First Christian Church and a honorary member of the Exchange Club of Ware County. The survivors include his wife, Eva Curtis Mikell of Douglas; a step-daughter, Dorothy Duncan of Pheonix City, Ala.; a step-son, Robert Curtis of Watkinsonville; 9 step grandchildren and 16 step great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Monday (May 14, 2001) at 2:00 p.m. in the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
