A longtime resident of Morningside Dr. in West Elmira passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning July 2, 2003 in the loving care of her family at the home of her granddaughter, on the Lewis Rd. in Pine City at the age of 92.
Born on September 13, 1910, Lillian was the daughter of the late Ernest & Louise Maio Dawson. She was the loving wife of Frederick Peters who predeceased her in 1990. Lillian devoted her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. She graduated from Boston General Hospital School of Nursing. She worked here locally for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital, Arnot-Ogden Medical Center and Elcor Health Services until her retirement in 1975. Outside of Health Care her many interest were reading Knitting Afghans, playing Bridge with her friends and winters spent in Florida.
Her loving family include a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce & Donna Peters, Auburn; a daughter, Lynne Campbell, Elmira; eight grandchildren, Christine Abbey; Lakeland, FL; Kelly (Eric) DeCaro, Auburn; Brandon Peters, Auburn; Belinda (Patrick) Combs, Pine City; Richard Mast, Horsheads; Dawn Lewis (Thomas Brewer), Elmira; Charles Bennett, Elmira; ten great grandchildren, Jordan & Codi Leigh Combs; Michael Crowley, Anthony Mast, Charles Bennett, Jeffery Mast, Christopher Lewis, Mathew & Taylor Brewer, and Christine Bennett; along with Lillian's extended family in Massachusetts.

VanAmburg, Donna D.
Passed from this life peacefully at her home in Gasport, NY in the care of her loving husband and their canine companions on Monday morning, June 30, 2003 following an illness at the age of 56.
Born in Stroudsburg, PA, Donna was the daughter of Stanley & Frances Panna Lescinski. She married Roy VanAmburg on July 31, 1965 in St. Mary's Franklin Street Church where they were long time communicants until their moving to Gasport, NY when she became a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Barker, NY. Prior to leaving the area they resided on Hickory Lane in Pine City. Donna was employed by Ann Page Foods in Horseheads for over 18 years. She loved her seven wolves, Nuktu, Amber, Shadow, Shyann, Snow Angel, Midnite, & Lobo like her own children and was always supportive of her favorite team the Buffalo Bills.
Donna enjoyed time spent boating throughout New York State with her loving husband and friend who survives her; Roy VanAmburg, Gasport; sister's, Lois & Ron Schoener, Pine City; Patricia & Loren Cloyes, Interlaken; sister's-in-law, Patricia & Roger Pollen, Elmira; Eileen & David Batrony, Southport; mother and father-in-law, Jesse & Rena VanAmburg, Southport; along with nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Donna was predeceased by her father, Stanley Lescinski in 1972 and her mother, Frances Panna Lescinski in 1993.

A resident of Erin passed from this life on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center at the age of 54.
Born in Jersey Shore, PA on November 20, 1948, Bob was the son of the late Russell L. & Helen M. Waldman Confair. He was a longtime employee of Kennedy Valve Manufacturing Co. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting.

Case, Linda L. Clark
Of Broadway Ave. Elmira, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday September 6, 2003 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center ICU surrounded by her loving family at the age of 57.
Born on January 13, 1946 in Wellsboro, PA, Linda was the daughter of Gerald and Lorraine Nobles Clark who have both predeceased her. She was devoted to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse and also worked as a cook in the Tioga Juvenile Detention Center in Wellsboro. Linda attended and was a part of the church family at the First Church of the Nazarene on Broadway in Southport. She loved children and caring for her animals. Linda was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt to those she leaves behind and who greatly miss her. A husband, Paul Case of Savona; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Gerald Austin, Wellsboro; a son, Brian Case, FL; two grandchildren, Ryan Austin age 9 and Cassandra Austin age 7; sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Thomas Bravo , Elmira; Brenda and Howard Estep, Lindley; a brother, Loren Clark, SC; nieces, nephews and friends.

Passed from this life peacefully in Elmira on Wednesday September 3, 2003 at the home of her beloved daughter and best friend, Sally Langan following an illness.
Marion was born in Scranton, PA, it was there that she spent most of her life until in recent years, when she moved to Pine Valley to be closer to her family.
Marion was the daughter of Harry and Loretta Robbins Granville. She was the wife to Edward Maher until his passing in 1986. She was employed for many years at her families business, Jean's Beans where she enjoyed serving area customers and came to know many of them by name. Marion attended the Bible Baptist Church of Horseheads. A loving mother, Marion enjoyed traveling, reading, caring for her pets and time spent with her family which survive her.
A daughter and son-in-law, Sally & Paul Langan, Elmira; along with their children, Daniel (Moonyeen Stickler) Langan; Erin; Deborah (Keith) Hill, Greensburg, PA; a son, Edward Maher, Cheswick, PA; along with his children, Thomas, Allen, Sherry, Peter, Jean Marie, and Patty; a brother, Harry (Alberta) Granville, Scranton, PA; several great grandchildren, nephews and a niece.
In addition to her parents and husband, She was predeceased by her two sons, Daniel and Thomas Maher and her two brothers, Thomas and Harry Granville.
Marion will be cremated at the Northern Bradford Crematory. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport at a time to be announced in October.
Morrow, Michael
A longtime resident of Elmira's Southside passed away peacefully Tuesday August 26, 2003 under the care of his loving friend and companion, Marjorie Stroman at her home in Southport at the age of 84.
Born on August 14, 1919, Mike was the son of the late Peter and Margaret Clark Morrow. He served in the United States Army During WWII. He was employed for many years at Bendix in Elmira Heights as a tool and die maker. Mike was a hard worker, devoted member of the Kiwanis Club of Southport, active member of the Montour Moose Lodge # 1401 and the American Legion Clarence Oliver Post # 154 of Elmira Heights and a life long communicant of St. Mary's Church on the Southside. He was a gifted woodworker and carpenter who was always willing to help those in need. He was very proud of the wood shop he created in his garage and spent countless hours there.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lola Reed Morrow in 1990, his daughter Anne Robinson in 1992.
Surviving Mike are his loving family, best friend and companion, Marjorie Stroman, Southport; a son and daughter-in-law, David & Joyce Morrow, Millport; a daughter, Margaret West, Addison; a son-in-law and close friend, Tom Robinson, Elmira; eight grandchildren, Jim and Todd Messinger, Michael and Amy Robinson, David and Rick West, Kriss and Sarah Morrow; several great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Samuel & Alma Morrow, Elmira; sisters and a brother-in-law, Theresa Haven, Elmira; Celeste & Paul Maki, Apple Valley, CA; along with nieces, nephews and many friends.

Bailey, Theodore "Ted"
A long time resident of Pine City went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday morning November 14, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospital following an illness at the age of 71.
Born in Troy, PA, Ted was the son of the late Clarence and Mildred Daniels Bailey. He was a loving husband and friend to Marilyn Bullard Bailey, they had celebrated 50 years of marriage this year.
A licensed Minister, Ted was the founding pastor who started the Church Street Baptist Fellowship Church which is now known as the Church Street Baptist Chapel. He served the Lord with all his heart and lived by his favorite scripture, Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose." The proprietor of his family business, Bailey Co. Ted became well known as a hard worker serving numerous families and businesses in our community. He was a member of the Elmira Heights Fellowship Baptist Church where he was very active as a church deacon. Ted was a loving family man who cherished time spent with his family and friends which survive him, his wife and companion, Marilyn Bullard Bailey, Pine City; their children, Norman (Terry) Bailey, Syracuse; LuAnn (Mike) Smith, Southport; and Gary L. Walton, Daniel J.
Formerly of Elmira and currently of Yucca Valley, CA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 30, 2003 following injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident at the age of 44.
Born here in Elmira on June 20, 1959, Dan was the son of Leland and Jean Baldwin Walton. He graduated from Southside High School in 1977. Dan moved to California eleven years ago where he worked as a successful car salesmen for Jessup Auto Plaza in Palm Springs, CA. He loved his family and enjoyed his many friends. In serving the Lord, he attended the Joshua Springs Church in CA and when home, the Millerton Wesleyan Church. He was looking forward to moving back to this area he called home with his soul mate and fiancée', Terry Sherratt to spend the rest of their lives together. His many interests included motorcycles, racing dirt bikes for which he won many trophies.
Surviving are Dan's family that he loved and cherished, his mother, Jean Walton-Zukas and William Zukas, Pine City, NY; his children, Jessica Lee Walton and her mother, Kathy Watts, Elmira, NY; S. Clark, Dorothy E. McCabe
A longtime resident of Milton St on Elmira's Southside passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, October 7, 2003 under the care of St. Joseph's Hospital following an illness at the age of 85.
Born in Rome, PA, Dorothy was the daughter of the late John & Mabel Parks McCabe. She married the love of her life Ralph Clark on December 21, 1942 here in Elmira and have enjoyed the last 60 years of marriage together caring for their home and raising their family. Dorothy's interest included crafts, crocheting and making her home a comfortable place for welcomed visitors. He loving family includes her husband and friend, Ralph Clark; sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence & Wendy Smith Clark, Belair, MD; Edward & Rita Ahern Clark, Herndon, VA; sisters, Sarah "Sally" & Julius DiGiacmo, Bellmawr, NJ; Imogene "Jean" & Donald Howell, Nichols; grandchildren, Laurie and Emily Clark, nieces, nephews and wonderful neighbors.

Kayder, Anthony
A resident of Elcor Health Services passed away October 3, 2003 at St Joseph's Hospital following an illness at the age of 73.
Anthony was born in Alpine, NY son of the late Mathew & Kathryn Kayder. He spent many years living and working on the family dairy farm. He later moved to Elmira where he owned and operated an apartment house. In his later years he resided at Elcor where he made many friends and enjoyed their company. Anthony was a very independent man, who loved nature caring for the land and livestock. He was a true farmer.

A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother "GG" died Tuesday September 30, 2003 at home with family at her side. Born in Thurston, NY Marion was the daughter to the late Frederick and Katherine Jones Sibley. She married Guy Maier in 1932 and he predeceased her in 1978. Marion was a graduate of Addison High School. Following completion of teachers training, Marion taught in a one room school house in Thurston and North Cameron. She also attended Meekers Business School and was employed at the Remington Rand for over 25 years. She was a long time communicant of St. Mary's Franklin St. Church. Marion remained active through out her life growing flowers, reading, working on crossword puzzles, and collecting music boxes. Her sense of humor and warm smile will be missed by her loving family which include her loving children, daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn & Donald Burris, Elmira; Rosalie & Roy Greene, Pine City; sons, Alwynne & Miyoko Maier, Tracey, CA; Wallace & Ola Maier, Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren, Don Burris, Kevin Burris, Jeffrey Maier, Karey Maschio, Diane Greene Watkins; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Crane, Addison; a sister-in-law, Mabel Maier, Corning; nieces and nephews.

Weidman, Kathleen Salisbury
A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend went home to be with her Lord and Savior in her sleep, very unexpectedly, Sunday morning, February 8, 2004, at the age of 36.
Born in Elmira, Kathy was the daughter of Doug & Mary Lipani Salisbury. She graduated from Southside High School and was formerly employed caring for those in need. Kathy married her soul mate and lifelong friend, Lloyd Weidman on November 3, 1984. Together they raised their loving children, Josh & Danielle Weidman at home in Pine City. Phillips, Benjamin R. "Ben"
Passed away Thursday morning, February 5, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospital following an illness at the age of 90. Born on April 9, 1913, Ben was the son of the late Marrion & Maggie Haley Phillips. Formerly of California, He was residing at the Lydon Personal Care Home in Gillett, PA near his loving son and daughter-in-law, Gerald & Eleanor Phillips also of Gillett, PA. Also surviving is his wife, Audrey Phillips, CA; his six grandchildren, Ginger Clark, Michael (Karen) Phillips, Ronald (Barbara) Phillips, Richard (Donna) Phillips, Dawn Tillinghast, Scott (Melissa) Phillips; nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, Hannah. Ben was predeceased by his sisters, Mildred & Alameda and his wife, Edna Phillips. Ben was a long time resident of California, He was the proprietor and a machinist of Phillips Screw Products, Cerriots, CA. A community minded businessman, He was active in his local Kiwanis Club and a member of the Odd Fellows. Ben was an outdoorsmen who found relaxation in fishing.

Known by many as "The Mayor of Cold Brook Drive", Southport passed away peacefully, Sunday January 4, 2004 at Three Rivers Health Care Center in Painted Post.
Harvey was born on October 10, 1923 in East Lawrence, PA, son of the late Jesse & Vera Graves Cary. He was employed at American LaFrance for many years, where he was a Welder, Supervisor, and a Union Representative before retiring. During his retirement, Harvey became well know in the community as a crossing guard for Broadway School children. He was a life time member of the Southport Fire Department and a member of the Moose Lodge. Harvey was a loving husband to Betty Gunderman Cary who predeceased him on April 15, 2001 following 54 years of companionship and marriage. He enjoyed caring for his home and spending time with his beloved family, which survive him; a son, Thomas Cary, Painted Post; son and daughter-in-law, Donald & Linda Cary, Red Lion, PA; five grandchildren, Ashley E. Gregory J. Chelsey Lyn, Travis M. and Jeffrey D. Cary; a sister, Louise Cummings, West Carrollton, OH; a sister-in-law, Grace Gunderman. Horseheads; nieces, nephews and many friends including his pal and nephew, Charles "chuck" Miller who resides at the family homestead in East Lawrence which Harvey always knew as home. In addition to his parents and Betty, Harvey was predeceased by his brother, Thoro Cary and his sister and brother-in-law, Elise & Charles Miller; and a brother-in-law, George Gunderman.
Harvey's family will receive friends on Wednesday January 7, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral services will follow the visitation in the funeral chapel at Caywood's at 8pm with the Reverend G. Victor Perry officiating. Following funeral services, Harvey will be cremated at the Northern Bradford Crematory and his ashes will be buried with his beloved wife Betty, in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira.
Wilber, Phyllis
A longtime resident of Lone Pine Terrace passed away in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side, Christmas Eve, December 24, 2003 following an illness at the age of 77. Surviving is her loving family, husband Robert of 56 years; two daughters, Connie & Rick Mullins, Karen & Dennis Freeman, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren along with her sister, Virginia & Bill Harding, two nephews, Greg (Debbie) Harding and Jeff (Sandy) Harding. Phyllis was employed for the Elmira City School District for several years.

Hodge, Elaine J.
A long time resident of Gillett, PA passed away very unexpectedly on Saturday, December 27, 2003 following a brief illness at the Robert Packer Hospital at the age of 63. Elaine was born on May 25, 1940 in Norwich, NY. She was employed for many years at Elmira College in the custodial department and also enjoyed caring for the sick as a Home Health Aide for many years. Her greatest joy was time spent with the loving and cherished family which survive and miss her dearly, husband, Eugene Hodge, Gillett, PA; daughters, Patricia (Wayne Jr.) Norton, Milan, PA; Brenda Lee Coats-French (Ted French), Sayre, PA; Lauren Gillie, Elmira; Michael Edward (Tracey) Beech, Milan, PA; Patrick Hodge, Scranton, PA; a sister, Elise Kingsbury, Elmira; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, three sisters, one brother, a daughter, Lisa Jo Beech and a granddaughter, Amanda Christine Coats.

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, December 23, 2003 after living a long and full life in the care of the Chemung County Nursing Facility, where she had been residing for the last six years, at the age of 95. Born in Big Flats on October 20, 1908, Florence was the daughter of Fred and Grace Whin Smith. She remained in this area caring for her home and family through out her life. Her interests were in crafts, macramé, cross-stitch and painting. She outlived two husbands, John Leverich and Orval Swain. Florence raised loving and caring children which survive her, a son, Lloyd (Carol) Swain, Bemis Point; Imogene "Jean" (David) Allen, Hendersonville, NC; Kenneth (Brenda) Swain, Las Vegas, NV; Frances (David) Wager, Southport; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Swain, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and caring friends.

Simmons, Evelyn L.
Passed away peacefully in the care of her family and Southern Tier Hospice on Saturday evening, December 20, 2003 at the age of 83.
Born on February 6, 1920 Evelyn was the daughter of the late Lewis and Ethel Youmans Copp. She was employed for many years as a nurses-aide at Franchers Nursing Home and worked in many area homes caring for the sick. Evelyn enjoyed caring for her home, she collected dolls and polar bear collectibles. She was a devoted mother to her family which survive her, daughters and sons-in-law, Iona & Ed Corbin, Elmira; Pat & Philip Thomas, Southport; a son, Arthur Harvey Jr., Groton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Evelyn was predeceased by first and second husbands, Arthur Harvey Sr. and Earl C. Simmons.
Funeral services will be held privately at the families convenience with the Reverend David Daniels officiating. Burial will take place in Woodlawn National Cemetery.
Rockwell, Gladys M.
A longtime resident of the Southport community passed away very unexpectedly at St. Joseph's Hospital on Thursday morning, December 18, 2003 at the age of 82.
Born here in Elmira on June 1, 1921, Gladys was the daughter of the late Edward and Laura King Roads. She married J. Robert Rockwell on March 31, 1944 and he predeceased her on August 17, 1974. Gladys was well know by the countless number of customers she served in her 40 years of employment at Moretti's Restaurant. Her interest included reading mystery novels, caring for her home and spending time with her loving family which survive her.
A daughter, Deborah Rockwell and her companion, Rich Gridley, Southport; sons, James R. "Skip" Rockwell and Clayton James "CJ" Rockwell, both of Big Pine Key, FL; a grandson, John E. Rockwell, Rochester; a community of cherished friends and her pal "Bugzy" the cat.

Savona, Albert P. "Al"
Formerly of Hoffman St. and a resident of Barton's Rest Home in Elmira passed away following an illness on Thursday evening, December 18, 2003 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center at the age of 89.
Born on February 11, 1914 in New York City, Albert was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Rago Savona. He married Pauline Combs in 1944 in Elmira and she predeceased him in 1970. Mr. Savona served in the United States Army during WWII. Al was a loving family man who enjoyed time spent with his children who survive him; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Linda Savona, Horeheads; Anthony and Connie Savona, Lowman; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Richard Paganelli, Elmira; grandchildren, Heather Savona, Jeremy Stephens, Eugene Stephens Rogers, Duffy Hoyt Jr., Richard Ruvolo and Robin Savona; nine great grandchildren; a brother and sister in-law, Anthony and Mary Savona of Irvington; nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers.

Eisenhower, Howard A. "Ike"
A long time resident of Miller St. in Elmira passed away Monday morning December 15, 2003 following an illness at the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 81. Born on December 18, 1921in Conyngham, PA; "Ike" was the son of the late Raymond and Mable Ravert Eisenhower. He married Beatrice Walker on June 29, 1947 here in Elmira where they would live and raise their family. He served on two ships in the United States Navy during WWII. Following the war, Howard was employed for the American Bridge Works in Elmira Heights retiring after 37 years of dedicated service. He was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church. "Ike" was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, a sportsman who enjoyed bowling and supporting his favorite team, the Elmira Pioneers. He was proud of his family history, having been related to President Dwight Eisenhower. Howard was a devoted and loving family man who treasured camping trips with his family which survive him. A loving wife and friend of 56 years, Beatrice "Mrs. B" Eisenhower; along with their children, Emily B. (Quentin Jr.) Summers, Wetona, PA; Ladonna (Ronald) Miller, Longwood, FL; Howard Jr. "Howie" (Ellamae) Eisenhower, Elmira; grandchildren, Chanda and Nathan Summers, Eric and Russell Eisenhower, Jeffery & Brian Miller; great grandchildren, Danielle and Marissa Eisenhower; brothers, Clarence (Susan) Eisenhower, Conyngham, PA and Dwight (Mae) Eisenhower, Hazelton, PA; sisters-in-law, Maxinne Eisenhower, Hazelton, PA; and Alice (John) Prince, Longwood, FL; a brother-in-law, Steven Hricak, Levittown, PA; nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his brothers, James, Oliver and Kenny Eisenhower and his sister, Gladys Hricak.

Kane, Charlotte Millard,
Formerly of Fassett, PA passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2003 in Kernersville, North Carolina following and illness at the age of 92.
Charlotte Millard was born on February 8, 1911 the daughter of the late Arthur and Myrtle Baxter Millard. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Fassett where she attended grade school and later attended Southside High School. After graduation, she married Jerome Pettingill on August 18, 1928. He passed away on January 20, 1969. In serving the Lord, Charlotte was an active lifetime member of the Fassett Baptist Church where she served as Church Clerk for over 30 years. She was active in the Rebekah Lodge and served as District Deputy President. She also belonged to the Patriarchs Militant, a branch of the Rebekahs. She was a 60 year member of the Fassett Grange. During WWII, Charlotte was employed by the Norden Factory producing bomb materials. After the war, she went to work at Sears Roebuck and Co. and was there for 25 years. While at Sears, she worked in the cashiers office and later became office manager active in buying and company operations, retiring in 1972. Charlotte married the late Rev. J. Sydney Kane on November 11, 1980 and he predeceased her on March 29, 1995.
Surviving is her loving family, a stepson, Hugh C. Kane "Carlie" of Fassett, PA, his daughters and son-in-law, Colleen Kane, Collette & Marvin Roberts, their son, Timothy Roberts; a stepson, Reverend J. Sydney Kane Jr., Lansdale, PA; his son and daughter-in-law, Houghton & Nancy Kane, and their children, Heather Cobb, Alison Johnson and Judson Kane; his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret & Dennis Roberts, and their children, Kimberly and Jeremy Roberts.
Charlotte's nieces, Virginia (Richard) Chapin of Kernersville, NC and Bessie William of Zepher Hills, FL; three great nieces, Darla (Mike) Gullehue; Dawn (Bruce) Houseknecht and Diane Kline along with several great nieces, nephews.
